Reviews for Hôtel le Bretagne

Review 1:The bed was very lumpy and very hard as were the pillows, you would not want to stay more then one night you could not get a good nights sleep

Review 2:Good location helpful staff

Review 3:Carpets in bedrooms a little dirty.

Review 4:Good location with parking just a few minutes walk from the centre of St Omer. Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent food in the restaurant.

Review 5:Good personal contact with interested staff (receptionist) and cleaning staff polite and friendly. Spacious hotel with excellent and fairly priced food and good service. The waitress was interested in what I thought of the food.

Review 6:This is not our first visit to this hotel but it will be our last. The place smelled of stale cooking and was in a poor state of decoration. It is in string need of refurbishment and was very disappointing.

Review 7:No croissants for breakfast as a bus party which had left early had eaten them all and none other were available when asked. No tea and coffee facilities in the room.

Review 8:Staff very friendly and helpful and when we asked for a room change due to a faulty fan in the bathroom which ran all night it was done without quibble.

Review 9:The night bar man charged us two different prices for the same set of drinks? Queried it and he said it was right. Not convinced...

Review 10:Easy with parking. Worked well for our return journey to Calais. Would go back as a nice town with good restaurants.

Review 11:We did not 'have a bad experience' and I fail to see how any reasonable person could find anything to complain about.

Review 12:Everything. This is a very pleasant, family-run hotel in a quiet but convenient part of St Omer, with some off-street parking (and secure on-street parking adjoining). The staff were very helpful; the room we had was large and comfortable; everything was spotlessly clean; and the restaurant was excellent.

Review 13:Traditional type hotel with fantastic, pleasant, helpfull, English speaking staff. Conveniently located for stopover if entering or leaving Northern France. Breakfast highly recommended. Hopefully, I'll stay again soon.

Review 14:Breakfast uninspiring. A bit too far away from the centre (bars, restaurants) - long walk back! Slow wifi.

Review 15:Parking. Easy to find location by car. Good sized room.

Review 16:Very dated and tired hotel that needs some TLC. Toilet cistern constantly running and topping up so sleep disrupted all time.

Review 17:Good location and clean bed

Review 18:The location was perfect for exploring the Loire. Beatrice couldn't do enough for us. We were welcomed with home made flan using fruit from the property, wine and later in the week grapes from the vines. We would definitely recommend the property.

Review 19:Décor was a little tired, also the bathroom fittings, shower, etc. needed updating

Review 20:Quiet, comfortable & big rooms, fast WiFi, good free parking. Rooms were very clean. Price was good. Represenets valkue for money.

Review 21:We arrived on a Sunday afternoon - using this as an overnight stay. However we discovered that the restaurant is closed on a Sunday so we had to go out looking for somewhere to eat. Was not very handy as we had been driving all day and just wanted a meal....... We would have booked another hotel if we had known.

Review 22:Nice hotel overall - staff friendly and helpful. Quite handy for centre of St Omer but not too near so quiet.

Review 23:Breakfast was a bit basic and neglected ... Coffee pots were empty for quite a while.

Review 24:Location was great, only 10 min walk max to the centre. I was travelling with my 2 boys by myself so booked a mini comfort suite which was a perfect size.

Review 25:St Omer is a quaint little town and the hotel is a stone's throw from the Abbey ruins and is otherwise in the midst of a typical French townscape. The hotel is comfortable with friendly staff, and interesting food on the menu.

Review 26:No bad experiences.

Review 27:Location in Saint Omer Location, short walk into the Centre. Free Parking & WiFi Excellent food in Restaurant and good choice for Breakfast. An older hotel, gave the impression you are in France, not just another chain of hotels.

Review 28:It's clean but the rooms are a bit plain, shower head was leaking water sideways. Id give the place a bit above 2 stars rather then 3 star hotel.

Review 29:Clean , a 10min walk way from the town centre

Review 30:Heavy duvet for summer use not good. No instructions in room E.g. Name tv channels. Shower head needs cleaning in order to improve water flow. Bed too soft. Restaurant again closed for our visit.

Review 31:Excellent Wi-Fi reception.

Review 32:There was a large coach party on the second day and when we went down to breakfast there wasn't a full choice and staff seemed reluctant to supply more.

Review 33:Within walking distance to the centre and free parking.

Review 34:Bedroom window straight onto street therefore with some noise.

Review 35:Good final stopping place in pleasant town before returning to UK. Dinner on terrace in evening good. Good breakfast.

Review 36:Our Room was very tired, carpet had what looked like white paint splattered on it and had seen better days,it was in need of replacement.

Review 37:Good position just out of town, good stopover location, Friendly helpful staff, Nice restaurant and food but let down by state of the room.

Review 38:The hotel is dated and the rooms are small.

Review 39:I think this is the best of the bunch in St Omer but still very average. It is overpriced for small, basic rooms. However, it is easy to find and has free parking.

Review 40:Nothing

Review 41:We felt that every aspect of the hotel was excellent, including the friendliness of the staff, comfort of the bedroom, and quality of the meals, and value for money. We are experienced visitors to France (both Paris and the country) and would rate this hotel as first class.

Review 42:The breakfast could have a bit more variety and the lack of mini fridge in the room

Review 43:Mini suite is really good and spacious. Restaurant is amazing and the gentleman in charge is very pleasant and polite

Review 44:We were offered an up grade for about £10 and would have taken it had it been simpler. We had to download an app and then apply, impossible forme with only my ipad. The room we had should be removed from "sale". Although clean, it belonged to the 1950s including a separate toilet from the bathroom, a shower which wouldn't work and an air of dismal about it. The receptionist at first denied we had made a booking, then "found it" with no apology , no smile. The restaurant staff were overwhelmed with only a surly girl and a non-response waiter until the older guy appeared and waspleasant. The food, we chose chicken in sauce, caused my comment "we could have this at home any evening", in other words nice but nothing exceptional. A poor attitude and a porr hotel. The worst rating I have ever given.

Review 45:The older man was pleasant and attentive in the restaurant

Review 46:Had booked comfort double with bath. Receptionist didn't seem to know this and gave us a room with shower. Then had to ask housekeeping staff which rooms had baths. If the room we had was truly a comfort room then I'm glad we didn't have a standard. The carpet was in urgent need of attention and there was no air conditioning or fan.

Review 47:Position of hotel and closeness to Calais. Free car parking.

Review 48:This was the second time that I'd stayed here and it looked like some of the rooms had been updated. Mine was the best room of the trip. Large, clean, well decorated with a lovely bathroom with large shower. Parking is right outside the front door. Breakfast is standard continental bread/meat/cheese.

Review 49:Only could find one English TV channel

Review 50:Large clean room good value for the money we paid not fair to town centre right next door to a good bar free parking

Review 51:Think the hotel could do with a bit of personalisation like rugs on bedroom floors, a multilingual guide to hotel facilities and St Omer attractions such as restaurants, swimming pools, and other things such as boat trips around the marshes.

Review 52:Situated within a walks distance of the town centre, we weren't disturbed at night by the music festival in the main square.

Review 53:Smell of smoke in communal areas.

Review 54:Location great. Very near ruined Abbey. Short walk to town centre. Staff friendly and helpful. Very clean room, albeit pretty basic.

Review 55:We had a dog so maybe we were given an old tired room that would certanly do with a re-vamp. We were told breakfast started at 07.00 they were still putting things out at 07.30 poor show seens as we were time bound and needed to plan.

Review 56:Easy walk to town centre lots of places to eat. Room was comfortable breakfast was good once it had all been laid out

Review 57:chaos at breakfast--bathroom shower screen needs attention rooms needed updating and some repairs tea and coffee in rooms would be an added extra

Review 58:good food

Review 59:Bathroom needed decorating but was clean.

Review 60:The restaurant manager was excellent and very friendly. My husbands fish stew was lovely but the steak Tartar was odd, it was made with mayonnaise! My meal was fine too. Bed very comfortable, room clean. We didn't have the breakfast.

Review 61:In urgent need of renovation and modernisation. Very cramped and depressing dull decor in the room. Unhygienic smell in the common area and reception. Room itself was clean. No service at the bar.

Review 62:Good location. Comfortable bed. Quiet room. Free parking and wifi.

Review 63:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 64:Great Restaurant. With great service. Great space for dining outside in the summer. Easy walking distance to centre of town.

Review 65:Well situated near the motorway close to Calais etc., St Omer has character and the hotel was very quiet and comfortable. Not super-luxury, but great value.

Review 66:The only thing I could think of is that the breakfast is a little on basic side

Review 67:The restaurant offers not only excellent ,quality food but the Maître d/restaurant manager is the real star, well done

Review 68:Uncleared tables at breakfast

Review 69:Staff - Chamber maids very conscientious & helpful. Reception staff helpful Restaurant Manager was extremely helpful and personable. Trainee waiter also worked well with the manager and deserves to go far. Food varied and delicious.

Review 70:Room basic in furniture and toiletries Breakfast expensive for what is provided. Items not replenished. tables not cleared

Review 71:Location Friendly staff Comfortable Car parking

Review 72:Hotel needs a fresh lick of paint to bring it into the 21st Century. Remove old carpets and the 'tiger chairs', change the giant keyrings

Review 73:Staff is very friendly, hotel is perfectly located: near station and close to town center Food is lovely, breakfast is varied and fresh I will definitely return!!

Review 74:Room was very dated and only one very small pillow

Review 75:We arrived with two( well behaved ) cats and we weren't charged anything for them! Unusual in France but very fair...I mean they don't need extra beds!!! The restaurant is excellent and staff superb and friendly !

Review 76:Everything, great location, comfortable, friendly staff, dog friendly, fantastic restaurant. The free car park is spacious, adjacent to the hotel is a small park, ideal for exercising the dogs. Will certainly return.

Review 77:Small room. Rather dated and tired decor. No kettle in the bedroom and the telephone didn't seem to work. It wasn't until we left we found out that it is switched on from Reception on request. An information sheet in the room would have been helpful. I didn't like the shower over the bath; rather difficult to get in and out of.

Review 78:Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. Good location. Very clean. Good value for money. Location in town in walking distance of shops and the Railway station. We had a group dinner in the nicely decorated dining room and it was excellent and very good value.

Review 79:Stale smell in corridors and very noisy intrusion from outside front doors at night. Spoilt our visit

Review 80:Restaurant staff and reception very friendly and helpful

Review 81:The hotel and rooms appear a bit tired. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. Wifi was poor.

Review 82:We stayed overnight prior to catching the Eurotunnel. Location is good and parking is very good.

Review 83:Would have been nice to have coffee and tea making facilities in the room. There was an item on our bill which wasn't ours, but the receptionist was very sympathetic and did not charge us for the item. It seems it was a clerical error.

Review 84:We have stayed at this Hotel several times over the years. The staff are always very helpful. On our arrival the receptionist treated us like old friends. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The Hotel Restaurant has always been very good and the staff very efficient. On this visit we had a wonderful meal and the service was impeccable.

Review 85:No facilities in the rooms for making drinks, no A/C, bathroom/WC clean but tired and rather worn-out. Wi-Fi decent speed but unencrypted.

Review 86:Quiet location with (limited) on-site parking, 45 mins drive from Calais. Good restaurant though not a huge choice for vegetarians.

Review 87:Booked twin but got double, had to park in street as hotel car park full. (Bike race taking place in Saint Omer that weekend).

Review 88:location near historic ruins, not a chain, felt a bit quirky, Bar and good breakfast

Review 89:Disappointed with salad starter course at dinner. my wife's lettuce still had soil on base, main course was OK.

Review 90:Central position.Ideal as first stop after Calais to unwind after the stress of M6 and M25. in UK.

Review 91:Nothing to get excited about. Seems like it is a regular one night stopover to and from the channel. Breakfast was 10 Euros a head (there wasfour of us) and it was very poor. Pastries ran out as we got there andweren't replaced. There was a massive queue for the one coffeemachine. Not acceptable for the money. My advice would be is to find alocal boulangerie and go and eat there in the morning. If there is fourof you will probably save you about 30 Euros and prove way moreenjoyable.

Review 92:Decent location. St Omer is an interesting town. Rooms were fine ifpretty bland. Parking on site which was helpful (free too). On the wholeit was all "fine."

Review 93:Nothing really, but still dated and local hotels are improving.

Review 94:Very pleased to see the same staff from 2 years ago, during le Tour 2012. Restaurant still excellent.

Review 95:Nothing not to like. Budget hotel but excellent restaurant

Review 96:Despite turning up a day late, the receptionist found us a room, didn't charge us for the mistake. Now that's what I call service. Excellent food in the restaurant

Review 97:When we arrived at the hotel, we were told they had no knowledge of our booking, even though I showed them hard copy and email confirmation.we had booked for 5 nights but were told they only had availability for 4nights.we reluctantly accepted. The next day we were told they had had a cancellation and we could now have a 5th night.

Review 98:very clean, good service, helpfull staff.

Review 99:It appeared that our room had not been swept recently. We were awoken early by a workman using a power tool just outside our 2nd floor window.

Review 100:Convenient location away from the town centre.

Review 101:Easy to find (signposted). Friendly welcome (staff spoke English). Free parking. Lift. Really good food (dinner and breakfast). Comfortable lounge/bar. Free WiFi.

Review 102:Staff were lovely and helpful, especially as our booking had not confirmed that we had a small child. The food was good but its fairly central location means that you have lots of places nearby to eat (but not lots of noise!). Room and facilities are as stated 3 star but they are updating.

Review 103:It was our last stop of many in hotels in France and Spain. It was one of the most expensive hotels and by far the worst. Staff were cold and perfunctory (apart from man on night duty who was sweet) and didn't make us feel welcome. The room was stuffy and smelled of smoking, there was no air conditioning and the double bed sank in the middle. We had to leave the window open because of the heat and the room overlooked a road so it was noisy - hence we had a really awful night's sleep. Really disappointing way to spend our last night of a long holiday.

Review 104:The locaction of the hotel was good and car parking was available

Review 105:The hotel feels "tired" and in need of refurbishment (which seems to be underway). The WiFi was out of action.

Review 106:Good location within short walking distance of St. Omer town centre. Easy access and convenient parking. Breakfast is simple but good and convenient.

Review 107:It would be nice when they had a few maps of the area and one for a walking tour of the town. Could even cost an euro.

Review 108:friendly staff All were very friendly to our dog and children.

Review 109:It's rather a long trek into the town centre - but we can't blame the hotel for that!

Review 110:This hotel provided everything we wanted for a stopover in this attractive town. We will certainly stay there again.

Review 111:Good breakfast, good location with a five minute walk into the Town.

Review 112:Location and good restaurant. Staff charming

Review 113:The size of the bedroom and bathroom was pleasing, the staff were very helpful and the dining room was very good.

Review 114:The only bad thing was the presence of a dog in the restaurant at dinner and breakfast

Review 115:The friendly staff and excellent restaurant

Review 116:A bit dated and very small rooms. No proper shower gel/soap.

Review 117:It was clean and fine for just one night. The breakfast was better than expected!

Review 118:The staff looked after us very well, very friendly. Would come back again.

Review 119:A little tired. Need refresh/ refurb. No air conditioning. A problem in summer.

Review 120:Very clean and in walking distance of town. Good Wi-Fi and breakfast offered. We would definitely stay again if in St. Omer.

Review 121:No bath towels. Only hand towels!

Review 122:Staff, location, bar

Review 123:Finding it, the one way system is a pain if you make wrong choice.

Review 124:Friendly welcome

Review 125:Nothing opens Sundays.

Review 126:Nice transit station for travellers.

Review 127:We found some hair on the bed and on the floor.

Review 128:Easy to find, good customer service.

Review 129:Great location for a stop over from South of France before getting the tunnel. Friendly and clean.

Review 130:Main course at dinner inedible

Review 131:Friendly staff, convenient location, no great traffic noise

Review 132:thin walls.. quite noisy early in the morning.

Review 133:the location of the hotel is good
