Reviews for Best Western Hôtel de France
Review 1:What I really appreciated, being a traveller with a light difficult mobility, is the easy access to every part of the Hotel. What I really appreciated is the cleanliness of the rooms. The bathroom was large and spotless. The bed was really cleaned thoroughly. I would like to recognise the staff and the management of the housekeeping. At the reception desk everyone was really professional and polite. Plus they do their job with a smile, whichever service you ask them.
Review 2:We liked everything, but a few things for others to consider. There is noise from the parking outside and the Church clock (if you have windows open) . We love the buzz and noise that goes with a town centre. Hotel garage worked fine for us, but it is small and requires manoeuvring into your space. We preferred it to parking in the main (public car park).
Review 3:Central location. We liked everything about the large well furnished room overlooking the Church. Couldn't have chosen a better hotel.or location. SUPERB
Review 4:The WiFi was quite weak and dropped in and out. There was no comfortable guest lounge. No long mirror in the bedroom.
Review 5:Staff were really helpful. Rooms were modern and clean, with a really good shower. Bed was comfortable and big, and extra pillows and blankets were provided. It was a spacious room. Central location made it nice to wander in the old town for a coffee. Very good value for money.
Review 6:The room was fairly small and too warm. It wasn't possible to open the windows for cool air, though, because of the noise from the street. The breakfast was too expensive for what was on offer.
Review 7:The hotel is right in the centre of town, the staff were very friendly. The lady at the reception spoke English very well.
Review 8:At breakfast some self serve items (milk jugs) were missing, making it hard to work out how to get some items.
Review 9:The room was large and bright, having big windows and a mix of modern and traditional French furniture. Our windows looked out onto a small tree lined square for easy parking, with a lovely fountain to one side. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. There were a range of restaurants within easy walking distance. The buffet breakfast offered a range of cold meat, cheese, cereals, fruit & yoghurts etc. Eggs were available on request. Large range of teas (no decaffinated) as well as coffees (inc decaffinated).
Review 10:The hotel has no kitchen of it's own an serves only warmed up dishes conserved in glass jars for outrageous prices. Better wait for the restaurant to open or stroll over the plaza to the other restaurants
Review 11:Nice atmosphere and directly in the City center
Review 12:I specifically booked a family room, which came through as adjoining rooms. Upon arrival I was given two adjacent rooms and there was no other option. With a 7 and 9 year old this is useless. So my wife and I had to sleep in separate rooms with a child each. My priority was for a family room, thereafter I paid more for the quality and reputation of Best Western. This hotel failed to meet my fundamental requirement, moreover it offered a family room when it patently could offer one.
Review 13:Thought breakfast choices were poor and the hotel lacked charm .
Review 14:Perfectly placed in the centre of town. We were at the front of the property overlooking the square and because of the double glazing it was very quiet .
Review 15:Disappointing top floor room with the smallest window I've ever seen in a hotel. It must have been an elegant hotel in the past, and the entry lobby still is, but the floor where we were has been very unsympathetically modernised to make it like any other nondescript hotel. It is a pity.
Review 16:Location
Review 17:Could NOT connect to wifi despite numerous attempts :(
Review 18:Restaurant was wonderful - very obliging despite not wanting a table till 10pm as our sons were playing rugby - England vs France!
Review 19:After 10 years 4 times/year in this hotel, I this time was asked 300 eu as garantie from my Vidacard!! And I did not lika that. Finally the elderly lady in the reception cancelled that withdrawel on my card. Luckily enough for the hotel!!
Review 20:Super fine big room with armchair, desk and chair, free internet and TV. Nice view and noice proof windows.. Very good breakfast served in my room. Adress in the very middle of the town. Close to restaurants and shops.Dont miss the guided tour 10.25 of Monastaire Royale fu Brou!!
Review 21:For our taste, the room was rather bare and soulless. They had some lovely features eg the fireplace but it was not used to its advantage (obscured by a chair). The toilet was not properly fixed to the floor which was a bit disconcerting. Some of the breakfast staff need customer service training!
Review 22:Lovely hotel in a lovely town. Wifi good. Breakfast good (as long as you don't have any food intolerances - eg there was no soya milk/alternative to butter available). Reception staff welcoming and friendly. Nice restaurants in walking distance. Parking in front.
Review 23:Bed not comfortable, cleaners started cleaning rooms around 8am, floor squeaking every time someone walks in corridor, lift wasn't working, restaurant wasn't working and I wasn't told that when I called, bearing in mind I stayed for 7days and booked2 rooms, for the money I spent it really wasn't a nice experience at all.
Review 24:Location was very good, spacious rooms.
Review 25:The shower tub -actually the bath tub- had no door nor any curtain, resulting in too much water spilling over the bathroom floor (Surprisingly this is a quite frequent issue in many French hotels)
Review 26:Good location right in the middle of downtown, good restaurant with regional cuisine, cleanliness of the room and comfort of bed, nice breakfast buffet, convenient private parking garage
Review 27:We would highly recommend the restaurant and the local dishes. Make a reservation as I suspect it might sometimes be difficult to get a table. The room was gorgeous, the bed so comfortable it was difficult to want to go to work in the morning. Thanks for the excellent breakfast buffet as well. We'll return to this hotel when in the region.
Review 28:They have redesigned the breakfast room. It is now much noisier andlacks atmosphere. Unpleasant colours of furniture. And they have lostall the glorious tradition of the former room that was unique with awonderful central breakfast bar purposely made a century ago (or so) forthe hotel. Similarly the stair well. Where have the old paintings andphotos gone?. Such a shame. And as a result of the re-do, they nowcharge a whopping 13 euros for breakfast..
Review 29:The many nearby chiming clock bells! The awkward lift that does not serve all floors.
Review 30:The hotel has been renovated in recent years. The rooms are modern, tasteful and comfortable. The restaurant is very good. Nicely located in the centre of town.
Review 31:In our standard room there was only a small double bed. there was a bath but the water pressure was poor so you had to wait a long time
Review 32:Right on the square with the brasserie next door. Plenty of parking outside so convenient for a stay in the town. Everything worked efficiently
Review 33:Breakfast (as everywhere in France) is far too expensive. It far exceedsvalue, but this is a French hotel universal not just a Best Westernissue. Instead of getting soaked, go to a nearby cafe (there are many)for less than 5 euros. Maybe someday the French will join theirneighboring European countries and more generously include cost ofbreakfast.
Review 34:Location, near the lovely fountain and village center. Attached toGeorges Blanc restaurant, a real plus. Old hotel newly renovated, simpleyet comfortable and value for money.
Review 35:I didn't like being charged for private parking at 3 times the rate on the online contract. I emailed the hotel but they have not had the courtesy to reply. This matter is not finished as I will be writing Best Western when I return home. A sour taste to an otherwise pleasant stay.
Review 36:The hotel is centrally located and has an excellent resaurant. The room was large with good facilities.
Review 37:Receptionist directed us to area with restaurants which were appalling -left one after receiving filthy glasses and dead flies in drinks. Grim ... Found an ok one elsewhere ourselves. Not a lot of choice in food.
Review 38:We were passing through and this was ideally located.
Review 39:We had 2 nights here to visit friends in Bourg en Bresse. Good location in the centre of town. Staff very helpful. Fine for what we needed and very close to the local market!
Review 40:Very welcoming staff. Rooms clean and well presented. Beds really comfortable - a really good night's sleep! Very good dinner in the restaurant (we didn't book, but probably advisable if you want a table either on the decking/terrace, or by the windows)
Review 41:The town has very little to offer. Old and in need of a thorough renovation.
Review 42:The hotel is pleasant with easy parking and a good restaurant. It served our purpose for a break on our way south perfectly: a decent meal and a good night sleep at a reasonable price.
Review 43:Friendly staff, standard room was nice with a lovely fireplace, parking garage secure.
Review 44:Location, cleanliness and friendly staff. Tres bien.
Review 45:Cleanliness, location, and restaurant
Review 46:brasserie not good value
Review 47:good room
Review 48:The size and comfort of room. Location and ease of parking.
Review 49:Having to pay for parking
Review 50:Good location for access to town, large comfortable room, good onsite parking
Review 51:Right In Town centre Excellent bed most comfortable we have had in a hotel.
Review 52:Wonky minuterie, dark corridoors
Review 53:big old hotel in middle of town. Free parking outside to 9am. Excellent dinner.
Review 54:Accidentally left scarf in closer. They said no one found it. Disappointed.
Review 55:Very pleasant place and stay.
Review 56:Very cheap parking
Review 57:Avoid the restaurant.Reasonable food but staff seem to go out of their way to be unhelpful.

Review 69:Very central for sighseeing.
Review 70:We couldn't connect to the wifi despite various attempts
Review 71:The location, and the staff were very helpful but perhaps a bit under-staffed
Review 72:Dinner in adjoining restaurant was expensive for what we had.
Review 73:Restaurant next door rather expensive
Review 74:room a little small and noisy due to position
Review 75:Good location right in the centre of town, reasonable value, staff very helpful
Review 76:Quiet room on back of hotel. Dinner outside on the front of hotel.
Review 77:The shower in the bathroom wasn't fixed so was a bit awkward to use

Review 79:Quiet location on the square Safe garage for the car Excellent restaurant
Review 80:Size of lift and room - very small
Review 81:Comfortable bed clean room and bathroom
Review 82:the absence of a fridge.
Review 83:Friendly and helpful staff; peaceful quiet room;
Review 84:Very pleasant reception staff
Review 85:Breakfast needs a lift. parking could be better.
Review 86:Staff, location, restaurant, overall value
Review 87:A good hotel for a stop over travelling form Italy to UK. Easy to find and had on site car parking.
Review 88:Breakfast was a little chaotic and expensive
Review 89:Large, comfortable room, great location, safe parking
Review 90:The rooms are beautiful and big. The bed is very comfortable.
Review 91:The decor in the room was awful
Review 92:The receptionist was very helpful
Review 93:restaurant food only ok.
Review 94:location, room size, location.
Review 95:The creaky floors. The first night we were in superior double room 233, which was very nice except for the very noisy squeaky floors upstairs and the corridor. But we asked to be changed to a quieter room and they obliged readily: room 347 was very quiet, also nice views of the square.
Review 96:Great location. Charming hotel. The restaurant Place Bernard at the hotel is a great culinary experience.
Review 97:Noisy neighbouring rooms above that staff did not manage to correct. mainly caused through poor sound insulation and extremely creaky floors. Bar and terrace area did not open until the evening, while many guests and visitors would have paid good money to spend the late morning or afternoon drinking and eating there.
Review 98:Central Location, onsite parking.
Review 99:Could not get wi fi to work. Very hard bed. Horrid cardboard cups for tea in the room and nowhere to put used tea bags.
Review 100:Location, chambermaids, reception staff.
Review 101:Room - Superior room booked but was small, overlooking the shabby backs and tops of other properties (like a slum) and smells from the kitchen came up. Was told on check out it should be for one person only. Bathroom and toilet were separate so to wash hands, you have to go through the bedroom to the bathroom and basin. Food- Chips came with the meal that were very overcooked and extremely greasy, so quite inedible. No chef should send out food such as that. Complained and just got a shrug from the waitress. We ate elsewhere in the evening
Review 102:Location.
Review 103:The bar doubles as the breakfast room so not exactly comfortable We paid for a superior room which I feel we got on our first visit but not our second
Review 104:Central location with an excellent restaurant
Review 105:No cappuccino at breakfast.
Review 106:The rooms have newly been refurbished. The restaurant offers an excellent choice of menu and the food was very good. Parking is easy as you can park for free directly outside the hotel.
Review 107:Having to put a parking ticket on the car at 9 am, our car high with roof box
Review 108:Proximity to centre of Bourg en Bresse Connecting room with our daughters Restaurant - excellent food
Review 109:Not a lot of storage space in the room we were given - we are away for 6 weeks so have several full cases which we couldn't empty, or really store anywhere. Shower screen over bath leaked and they said they'd fix it - they didn't! Separate WC to bathroom was very small and could easily have been in the bathroom, which was huge! Wifi was a hit and miss - more miss than anything! Car park was a bit chaotic as they'd booked in more cars than they had spaces. Room was quite warm as "too early for a/c" although it was 23C outside!
Review 110:Great location and very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably large room facing the rear, so nice and quiet. Very comfortable and large bed.
Review 111:Restaurant franchised out....Bourg en Bresse chicken used to be a speciality and was superb. Now just one chicken dish ...a boney piece of chicken covered horrid low grade supermarket cream sauce.... ugh.
Review 112:Classic three star French hotel well positioned in the town.
Review 113:Room to the back ovelooking old shacks. Smell from the kitchen under window. Sound insulation not very effective.
Review 114:Central position Parking facility Reasonable price
Review 115:Elevator only served "between" floors - still left stairs to negotiate with luggage
Review 116:Very central location. Convenient parking. Friendly and competent staff Food was good
Review 117:There was no facility for an evening meal as the restraunt was closed. We were ot told this at the time of the booking. All we could find open was a sandwhich shop.
Review 118:The room was satisfactory. Breakfast average.
Review 119:Bathroom products lacking such as shower cap etc One member of staff in the restaurant was not good, he really didn't want to be doing the job and didn't want to be there - it was quite obvious, he was very sloppy
Review 120:Reception staff very efficient and friendly. Room was spacious and clean Restaurant food excellent
Review 121:Nothing but breakfast could be cheaper or included
Review 122:Location was good. Hotel newly refurbished in a tasteful way. Allnew and clean. Good breakfast but a bit pricey. Parking outsidewhich was great
Review 123:Rooms were at back of hotel. No air con so we had to sleep with windows open which felt very unsafe as someone could easily have climbed in during night.
Review 124:Very clean, adjoining family rooms, perfect for overnight stay en route to Italy. Garage for car.
Review 125:Hotel was located in the center of Bourg en Bresse in walking distancefrom restaurants and shops. Good value for a last minute booking and agreat find for us.
Review 126:The wifi internet sometimes cut out. Also, having to continually login to the internet with your email address was a little annoying.
Review 127:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located right in the centre of town which made getting around very easy. The hotel is a beautiful building that overlooked Place Bernard.
