Reviews for The Georgian Guesthouse
Review 1:Due to the age of the building you could hear every sound. Most other guests didn't bother to take in account that others were sleeping and were loud and drunk when they returned. Left a bad example of English "tourists".
Review 2:Great hosts and comfy bed!
Review 3:Great location good rooms comfy bed room was small but for the length of time we spent in there it didn't matter shower was hot breakfast was lovely with local produce used
Review 4:It was a little cold when we arrived but didn't take long to heat the room up.
Review 5:Jo was very lovely and a genuinely nice person. The lodge itself was very cosy and perfect for a nice getaway.
Review 6:Struggled with key to room as it was bent but wasnt a big issue
Review 7:Loved the location staff very friendly and welcoming Room just what we needed no frills fab value for money Very lovely breakfast with as much tea and toast as you can eat
Review 8:Well due a face lift of the room and landings. Decor and building work of poor standard. Don't know when bathroom was last cleaned from top to bottom as the corner unit was thick with dust and rusty.
Review 9:The staff were very friendly and breakfast service and food good.
Review 10:Disappointing. Paid £69 for each room (single occupancy): one did not have en suite facilities. My own bathroom had a number of minor defects. Breakfast: cereals and fruit not evident (though available on the menu). Only one marmalade jar among 5 tables. B&B requested cash (to keep costs down, not for customer convenience). Very sorry we hadnt chosen a B&B at nearby Amble.
Review 11:conveniently located
Review 12:parking somewhat difficult. No staff on site most of day and at night. difficulty contacting staff on checkin
Review 13:location and breakfast good. ideal for exploring Alnwick and surround area(s) close to most local hostelry's for evening and midday sustenance
Review 14:The breakfast was excellent, the location couldn't be better. The bathroom basin was tiny and the shower difficult to set, it was either scalding hot or cold, not easy to find a comfortable temperature. At least we had a toilet which some rooms didn't have.
Review 15:Car parking was a little bit difficult but manageable with help.
Review 16:All staff were so friendly and happy to help in any way.Excellent breakfast. Served hot on hot plates. Brilliant location.
Review 17:I disliked the fact that the bathroom wasn't in the same room as the bedroom however it was in another room very close. I didn't mind that too much.
Review 18:The location was amazing. It is directly in town and all the available shops and restaurants were in walking distance as well as Alwnick Castle. The car parks in the entire town were also free to stay. The people were very friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 19:We were expecting an ensuite bathroom but because we had booked to stay with our dog we were given the room "usually used for dogs"! The room was quite small and not much space around the bed for two adults and a Labrador. The bathroom was across two short flights of stairs and landings and unfortunately we weren't provided with a dressing gown until after the second morning. The towels are quite small and only one hand towel provided for both of us. There are no glasses provided in the room even for rinsing by the sink. Although the cooked breakfast was good, cereals came with the milk already on, we would prefer to put milk on ourselves. There was no private parking facilities unless you wanted to risk being blocked in but plenty of parking nearby. I tried to contact the owner Jo on our return to the B&B early one evening by ringing the bells and telephoning the two numbers displayed but didn't get a reply until the next morning, luckily it wasn't an emergency but found it a little disconcerting that no-one was available to answer our call until the following day. The dining room is very small and cramped and not much space on the table if four people are sharing. Overall I would say this hotel is ok for a short break for visiting local attractions but there are a few small things that let down the overall effect which, if attended to, would improve the quality of stay. "Comfort and quality should come before economy"
Review 20:Friendly welcome. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen clean and good quality. The shower was good and hot. Breakfast was good with friendly service. Excellent location for Alnwick and local areas.
Review 21:Rooms seemed small, cereals served with milk already poured on. Felt as though the owners didn't live on the premises.
Review 22:Location good, off road parking for three cars only and very tight access. Cooked breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 23:parking - noted as 'ample' but limited access through archway and if you were in first everyone else had to move their vehicles if you wanted to get out. Chose to park the car at a free, town centre car park
Review 24:room and facilities were acceptable. breakfast was good
Review 25:Only slight disappointment was although we had our own toilet it was not connected to the room.
Review 26:The Manageress was really cheerful and helpful. Breakfasts were delicious. The guesthouse was within easy walking distance of the castle, gardens, restaurants, shops and Barter bookshop.
Review 27:Bath towels were a little on the small side. But we managed. Overall nothing else disappointed.
Review 28:The location could not be better. Very friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Would definitely be booking there again.
Review 29:Not having an en-suite (had a private bathroom across the corridor) - but then we did book last minute so can't expect everything
Review 30:The helpfulness of the owner and her staff
Review 31:How this rated 8.2!! Our room wasn't at all great - loads to moan about here, but the final straw was the shower - beyond pathetic - hair washing took place in the sink which was too small, ended up at the hairdressers. We bailed out and found better accommodation.
Review 32:The staff where great - breakfast was very good, home cooked and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 33:Bed not made on some days, bin not emptied some days. The front rooms are very noisy.
Review 34:WiFi staff, central location. Parking on site. (you need to be able to reverse your car)
Review 35:Friendly nature of the staff who offered excellent advice on where to visit and what to do. Well done to the team providing breakfast as most guests seem to arrive at the same time!
Review 36:Couldn't get Wi Fi in our bedroom, signal too weak.
Review 37:Staff excellent and welcoming. Loads of choice for breakfast. Tea and coffee making facilities in rooms. Location very central and close to a free car park, pub and restaurants.
Review 38:Just that our time to spend in Alnwick wasn't long enough!
Review 39:The location to our trip and the easy access to the train, buses, taxi..we didn't have our own car so that was important. The town itself was wonderful to explore and we discovered some of our family history there!
Review 40:The location was excellent. Anwick garden and castle only five minutes walk away. Pub serving good quality home cooked meals very close, theatre across the road. Yet very quiet.
Review 41:We had a warm welcome from Jo who gave us all the help and information we needed to fully enjoy the delights of Northumberland and in particular Alnwick. Ideally situated for visits to the Castle and Gardens.
Review 42:In both the rooms the bathroom, especially the shower was tight with little room to move.
Review 43:The breakfast was hot, well cooked with good choices. Staff were fantastic. The owner was very helpful about places to eat and visit. The property was very clean. The bedding was pristine.
Review 44:There was no hot water. The heating system wasn't working during our stay and the shower drain was blocked...
Review 45:Warm welcoming and courtesy call very much appreciated.
Review 46:only fault was poor heating in bedroom as the wife found it quiet cold at night.
Review 47:nice room with all you needed, close to town centre and 30 yards from the fleece inn that do lovely evening meals, a breakfast to die for A+.
Review 48:Excessive road noise is a problem if you are roomed to the front of the property.
Review 49:Comfy beds and fantastic staff. Very helpful and very informed. Excellent breakfast.
Review 50:Shower room extremely small. Bed not made daily nor cups washed or bin emptied daily. Not vacuumed throughout 3 night stay.
Review 51:The breakfast was excellent, freshly made and piping hot. Bed comfortable.
Review 52:Location is fantastic as we were going to a gig at Alnwick Playhouse which is just round the corner. Jo looked after us very well and if you've booked breakfast, have it! Will definitely be back.
Review 53:Thought the inside was tired - not upgraded or decorated recently. Does not feel Georgian indoors.
Review 54:Very central to Alnwick and was able to leave car at B&B. Lovely host, good communications with her.
Review 55:Had some requirements for a friends wedding which were accommodated by Jo with a few emails, slept like a log on comfy double bed and treated to a really tasty breakfast before departing
Review 56:I was travelling with dad so no option above for that. We were going to share a twin room but booking.com had as double
Review 57:Location of guest house Breakfast Free wi-if access Staff Access to come and go Staff very accommodating
Review 58:Great little b&b, went out of their way to help with early check in and parking needs. Also provided a room for extra friend at a minutes notice. Would visit again
Review 59:Only problem was some of the channels on the telly got bad reception, like bbc1 & 2 and some others - but i have no idea about that, that might just be a location thing, probably not anything that the owners could help - but there's a wide variety of channels any way that you're still not stuck for something to watch on an evening
Review 60:such comfy rooms, the location is spot on - right in the centre of Alnwick! (also didn't realise how close it was to the gardens, like a minute walk away!) the whole establishment felt homely and welcoming, the food was great on a morning as well - so much choice for breakfast! If we ever come back to Alnwick we'll come here again
Review 61:Parking awkward and limited. Access via narrow archway and could get blocked in. Second night the heating broke down and no heaters offered.
Review 62:Very central, warm welcome, warm hotel, superb breakfast.
Review 63:on site parking was a little scary-down the side of the building.
Review 64:The bed was very comfy, food was excellent, staff were great. the location couldn`t have been better, close to all of the attractions and restaurants. excellent value for money
Review 65:Although not a major problem, car parking access was somewhat restrictive.
Review 66:1. Excellent access to local amenities - Theatre, Restaurants, Pubs, and gardens, etc. 2. Friendly and obliging staff. 3. Small but adequately furnished rooms having all expected facilities. 4. Varied and well prepared breakfast. 5. Very comfortable beds.
Review 67:1)My sister and I had made a booking for a twin room which, apparently ,was not available.Instead, the owner offered us a private apartment with kitchen,bathroom,living/dining room, for the same price, which seemed generous. However, sleeping accommodation turned out to be a sofa sleeper and an old put-up single bed in the living area, which were not too comfortable. 2)There was a, locked, connecting door to next room and other guests arrived after 10pm to check in and were extremely loud- their conversation could be heard through the door, which was disruptive. 3)The kitchen did not seem very clean-- surfaces and floor were sticky. 4)A newly renovated bathroom revealed a very small corner shower with all new fixtures BUT the water rarely got beyond tepid after running tap for 20-30 mins,(owner had suggested it might take 10 mins) over a 3 day stay. In frustration , we skipped shower on our final day.The bathroom itself was large, so it would have made sense to have installed a larger shower unit, with guaranteed hot water. 5)On- site parking was awkward for a larger vehicle, being through a stone archway at the back.(There was also a risk of being blocked in by other guests. )However, a free town car park was a 2 min walk away. Overall, we would have preferred to pay more for more amenity.
Review 68:Location. Just off the main street in Alnwick and only 5 mins walk from Barter books! Warm welcome from owner.
Review 69:The room was small and not very clean, marks on the bed covers, dirty sinks and a shower you could hardly get into. The toilet was across the landing. There are more rooms than breakfast tables so some people had to wait outside until they could be seated. And the guest parking is a joke.
Review 70:The bed was very comfy, the breakfast was OK.
Review 71:Room very noisy. Secondary glazed windows beside main road. Room small and shower room even smaller.
Review 72:Staff were friendly Centrally located Provided all facilities in room
Review 73:car parking a nightmare!! best for noncar visitors. We were in room 8 at the front, very noisy during normal traffic hours in evening and early morning but to be fair it is situated in the town. Dining room small
Review 74:pleasant,friendly host and staff. Very convienent for town Food good,we had cooked breakfast
Review 75:No en-suite facility and no where to work even though web site says it has both of these.
Review 76:Eventually was moved to other accommodation with correct facilities.
Review 77:Noise late on weekend nights from people at the nearby corner was a big problem. So was heavy traffic in the early morning. [I don't rate the unnecessary american spellings - "traveler" etc - at beginning of this questionnaire.]
Review 78:room 8 is large and comfortable with adequate storage and facilities. The breakfasts were well prepared and sufficient. Proximity to parking, evening meals and shops is excellent. The staff were great.
Review 79:Shower facilities very small, shared toilet across the landing, poor breakfast menu. Had to put the kettle on the floor to boil, as the lead was too short to reach from the small shelf on the wall.
Review 80:Location, Cleanliness
Review 81:A bit of traffic noise, but not to bad later in the day. My wife would have liked a bath, but there was no bath plug, tried to find the proprietors but no-one was available at 5:45pm. Dining room tables very small & very cramped.
Review 82:Convenient location for town facilities & a pub nearby for a meal & a pint.
Review 83:It would be nit picking to find a fault.
Review 84:Jo,David & staff were welcoming and very helpful, nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was great and David understood that it needs to be on a warm plate, far to many B&B's do not.
