Reviews for The Oaks Hotel
Review 1:a bit too cold and the radiator was not hot enough. too easy to hear all the bar noise from below breakfast finished at 9-00am on a Saturday
Review 2:Clean, well appointed room and bathroom
Review 3:They could probably do with updating their showers not much power coming from them.
Review 4:Staff were very helpful and friendly . Kept our luggage until our transport was due . Breakfast was good.
Review 5:The shower was poor, needs some updating. Lighting in room, a bit dingy.
Review 6:The food and service very good. Staff excellent. Arrived early and were able to get into room.
Review 7:The Oaks Hotel was perfect for our stay in Alnwick. We liked the relaxed atmosphere, the great staff and lovely food. Everthing was perfect for our stay. Alnwick is a great place to visit.
Review 8:Daughters bed uncomfortable and a bit broken. I think previous occupant used it as a trampoline. Nice staff replaced it though with very comfortable bed. Wi-Fi in room 23 non existent.
Review 9:Location ideal for Alnwick and Castle. Tasty dinner and breakfasts. Staff very friendly. Big family room.
Review 10:What was missing was a good atmosphere. We chose not to eat in the restaurant for a second night, despite the food being very good, because there weren't many people there and this was the same in the bar - hardly anyone there. We wondered whether there should be more to attract people to go there; we noticed there was a quiz on a Wednesday night and afternoon tea but probably not a great deal to make people walk further to the outskirts of town. The staff were fine and were pleasant and friendly, but we felt they lacked enthusiasm.
Review 11:The hotel looks very pleasant. The bar and restaurant are attractively decorated although the restaurant is quite dark. Our room was nicely set out, pleasantly decorated and clean. We were at the front overlooking the road but were not disturbed by traffic. The food was by far the best feature of the hotel - lots of choice and very well cooked.
Review 12:Big rooms, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. I will pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Alnwick is an adorable little village; the Oaks sits right on the edge of town, within walking distance of everything.
Review 13:Property becoming a little seedy. Ready for a coat of paint but everything worked OK. Located on busy roundabout but road noise not a problem at night.
Review 14:Satisfactory pub food and drinks. Good quantity and adequate quality. Room good size and adequate furniture. Polite and friendly staff. 10 minutes walk from town centre, good touring centre.
Review 15:The toilet did not flush properly and when I advised the management they said they plan to rectify it in the near future!
Review 16:The room was big and comfortable.
Review 17:The electrics went off twice in our room, the shower didn't work properly, either too hot or too cold, the tiles and shower screen weren't very clean. Radiator in bathroom also didn't work.
Review 18:The bar and restaurant staff were nice and friendly. Bed linen and towels were clean and fresh.
Review 19:The hotel was spotless. The room was well decorated and the beds comfortable. We had a room upstairs and a member of staff carried our cases and bags as we couldn't manage this ourselves because there was no lift. We would stay here again.
Review 20:Beds a bit uncomfortable. As with the whole of the area, we found the choice of food on menus a bit uninspiring. Children food choices alway seem to consist of pizza, pasta and chips
Review 21:Good location. Helpful staff excellent value for money
Review 22:The room looked out onto the main road and it felt quite exposed as there were no nets or blinds at the windows.
Review 23:The room was very spacious. Breakfast was delicious and all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 24:We'd made clear we would want breakfast at 7.30am in the notes added to our booking (or that alternately if they wanted to refund us the cost we'd get it elsewhere), but they seemed to have paid no attention to it and even after we reminded them on arrival, the staff still weren't geared up for it in the morning, which made us late getting away. For us as a couple it was a very expensive room - not good value for money - but that's because it was a family room and unfortunately the only one left available. If we'd been using it at full capacity it would have felt a reasonable price.
Review 25:Excellent location, nice pub, decent pub food. Would stay there again if not needing to leave early, and if cheaper rooms were available.
Review 26:Our room was near the kitchen area, thus we always smelled fried things when we go outside our room. Its not a good smell to begin with in the morning, at least for me. The room was number 31 so if you happened to have this room, just changed it immediately.
Review 27:Location is near the Anwick castle which is the main attraction in this area, and its really is a fantastic castle. The room was big but due to so many big furnitures, it got smaller in size. Basic amenities were provided. Big television and wifi was fast. Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.
Review 28:Food smells lingered in the bedroom also didn't like the macerator toilet as didn't appear to work very well but for 2 days I didn't complain
Review 29:staff were friendly, excellent food both breakfast and evening meals. Bed was huge and comfy. Furniture in bedroom was nice, had tea/ coffee with biscuits also iron and ironing board which for me is a bonus
Review 30:The bathroom could do with some smartening up and updating.
Review 31:The Oaks has a good central location which makes it easy to explore Alnwick. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. Our room was a good size and contained everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Review 32:Bed had an orthopaedic mattress. A bit too firm for us. No extractor fan in the bathroom. WiFi very inconsistent.
Review 33:It was my birthday when we arrived. The staff had heard my wife say that during our meal there. During the dinner I was given a delicious free dessert with a candle on top. When we got back to our room there was a free bottle of Prosecco on ice waiting for us. Nice touch by the management and staff. All staff very friendly and approachable.
Review 34:Nothing.
Review 35:Everythng - the room was comfort, well furnished and decorated, excellent value and great food and breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 36:Very friendly staff; extremely convenient location and easy to find (on main road coming into Alnwick, and just off the A1 road); dog friendly; lovely food. Our room had yet to be refurbished (hence facilities and comfort ratings) but we were told this in advance when booking for our dog, and the bed was really comfortable. Couldn't have been better for us.
Review 37:The decor was tired but being above the bar was noisy and were only able to get to sleep once the bar had closed. Pillows were not supportive.
Review 38:The evening meal was excellent and the staff fitted us in with no notice. The staff were very welcoming.
Review 39:Perfect location for us as we were going to a wedding at the Treehouse. Staff were helpful and lovely. We had lunch and breakfast and the food was amazing.
Review 40:The breakfast was excellent. Stayed in many nice places where it's been let down by the breakfast, but the oaks was spot on!!! Good sausages!! Friendly helpful staff. Good location. Clean comfortable. Would definitely stay again if visiting Alnwick.
Review 41:Room was clean if a little dark and tired but hey for the money no real complaints
Review 42:Enjoyed the food and friendly staff. Ample Parking. Real handy for Alnwick Gardens and Castle
Review 43:hotel was ideally situated for our visit. staff pleasant and helpful. we had a four poster bed in our room which was really comfortable. despite being on a main road, it was also really quiet
Review 44:would have liked a chair in bedroom two adults in room needed to sit in a chair not the bed.
Review 45:handy for us to visit castle, lovely sitting area outside, just chilled while my niece was drawing and running about quite safely.
Review 46:The bedroom was large but very dark and brown with very poor lighting,we were unable to read without the main light on, not a welcoming room after a day sightseeing,
Review 47:Position of hotel. Breakfast staff very cheerful and efficient.we asked for a second chair n the bedroom which was provided quickly and cheerfully
Review 48:Cutlery and glass tended to stick to dining room tables. Decor a bit dated in places
Review 49:Location. Spacious bedroom, large comfortable bed and armchairs. Friendly staff. Car parking easy.
Review 50:older style building which led to creaky floor & stairway.
Review 51:nothing any trouble for any of the staff. ordered taxi for you, breakfast however you wanted it. clean rooms. excellent beer garden
Review 52:You can hear everything that creaks and speaks and flushes from surrounding rooms. Might have been ok back in 1990, but now dilapidated and way past its sell-by date. Knock down the hotel and leave the bar and restaurant.
Review 53:Barman served generous portions)
Review 54:not a bad experience, but the tables in the dining room were all slightly sticky, (something to do with the cleaning fluid reacting with he wood finish on the tables?)
Review 55:Friendly, convenient and delicious food
Review 56:Well placed for visiting Alnwick castle and gardens and for touring Northumberland. The owners and staff were very helpful and the breakfast was very good.
Review 57:the staff were all very friendly especially dawn who always had a smile on her face, all the staff were very welcoming and found time to make you feel really welcome, very impressed with the food as it was an excellent standard from the breakfast to the restaurant meals.we had a 2 night stay and were pleased to find that our towels were changed in the morning
Review 58:Decor in bedrooms dark toned in a not well it room gave it a tired appearance. Toilet seat on small side. Bathroom tired- ready for upgrade. Traffic noise apparent as on roundabout No air con or fan - had to have windows open so no choice but to cope with the traffic noise. However the staff more than made up for the faults and we had a very pleasant stay and would go again.
Review 59:Staff very cheeful and friendly. Nothing too much trouble. Food excellent.
Review 60:Noisy extractor fans and traffic noise outside bedroom window made it difficult to sleep. Stale cooking smell in corridor outside of room 31 all the time. Cooked breakfast was swimming in fat Tinned peaches offered as fresh fruit for breakfast. Beds a bit uncomfortable Sticky tables in dining room
Review 61:Nice, clean, good sized room. Food on offer in the evenings was lovely. Free parking Good wifi access in room Friendly staff Walking distance to Alnwick Gardens and Castle and into town
Review 62:we had the carvery and all was great apart from the beef that night, however the chef was on board with the comments and was going to change supplier
Review 63:room and bathroom excellent, staff very friendly and accommodating, breakfast good as was the food in the restaurant
Review 64:The room was near a very busy road so we were unable to open the windows wide. There was only one window in the room so the general light was poor and we needed the main electric light on all the time.
Review 65:A big, comfortable bed and TV. Plenty of complementary tea and coffee. Good bathroom with option of bath and shower and plenty of towels. Case rest was handy. A problem with the shower was fixed the same day. The staff were friendly and courteous. The room was easily accessed from the Car Park. The hotel is in a good position in Alnwick for either a walk into town or to reach roads to the coast, north and south.
Review 66:Beds were a little hard and rooms very hot, also TV remote in our room didn't work properly.
Review 67:Food in the hotels restaurant was excellent. Excellent location for Main Street, Alnwick Castle & the gardens.
Review 68:We were a bit chilly but that may be because it had been extremely hot over the past couple of weeks.
Review 69:We both felt we were welcomed, which is a big plus. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was huge and very well supplied with towels, soaps and everything we needed.
Review 70:nothing to dislike, staff great, excellent value, One of the best .
Review 71:Located on the outskirts of Alnwick, we had an excellent large upstairs room. Publican helped with the suitcases and was out to impress. We had an excellent dinner in the pub restaurant. Plenty of Car parking being hotel.
Review 72:Comfortable room, great food, very friendly staff and a nice location. They have a carvery in the evenings and the restaurant is full. Great breakfasts as well.
Review 73:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was ready with a travel cot when we arrived. Service for breakfast was good with a good choice to choose from. Sitting area outside was fab when the sun was out and it's not too far from the town centre. Just what we needed for a little family time together.
Review 74:Nothing. Though, felt that the bathroom needed some modernisation.
Review 75:Staff were very helpful, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast and evening meal were brilliant. Good location for our needs.
Review 76:On busy main road but most the hotels and guest houses were in this area and at least this had a good size car park.
Review 77:The hotel was perfectly located to visit Alnwick castle, town and local attractions. Good size room which was very clean. Staff were friendly and their restaurant food was brilliant.
Review 78:Fact that bedrooms were next to floodlights outside hotel, which meant the room was too light most of the night. Could be resolved with blackout curtains, or being turned off.
Review 79:Location and friendly staff
Review 80:Didn't get the room we booked despite having placed the booking over three months ago,we were put into a family room, it needed total revamp plus a deep clean.Very noisy overhead. Not value for money.
Review 81:Convenient location, food very good.
Review 82:the oakes is 2 minutes from our friends we were visiting we have had a meal there before but not stayed there glad we did this time friends just moved to alnwick had a meal with us loved it as we did
Review 83:The shower was very difficult to use; it was either very hot or cold. Free wifi is available but only in particular rooms and there's very weak signal. Corridors could do with redecorating.
Review 84:Rooms are bright and airy. Modern decoration, comfortable bed, ensuite had a good sized bath. Clean. Breakfast was lovely. Great choice of food on evening menu/ specials. Close to town centre. Staff were friendly.
Review 85:There is nothing not to like about this small town. I didnt find anything to complain about within the hotel.
Review 86:Alnwick is a small market town and we enjoyed the walk around the town. The reason for the overnight stay was to go to the Castle for an evening meal in the Faulty Towers theme. This was enjoyed by all who attended. We were only in the hotel to rest and shower before going out and then an evenings rest before going home next morning. Breakfast was good and the service good.
Review 87:Nothing to dislike .
Review 88:Hotel very convenient just off Motorway. Lovely food and very pleasant staff. Lovely large bathroom with nice deep bath and bedroom spacious and comfortable .
Review 89:Really enjoyed our stay here, the room was massive and very clean, and being in Alnwick was perfect we had plenty to do the next day. I also recommend coming here for a meal, it was delicious food!
Review 90:The bathroom and main areas of the hotel are tired dated and need updating.
Review 91:The double bed was comfortable and the bedroom was nice. A base for exploring, but a 10 minute walk from the town.
Review 92:Not a bad experience as such, but would suggest better plumbing on the shower
Review 93:The room was large and comfy, food was more than adequate and reasonably priced, breakfast was great and wide choice of. Locality of the hotel couldn't have been better. Close to the town and tourist attractions.
Review 94:The shower was useless, needs upgrading. If you're a light sleeper you may want a room away from the main road, though not a problem for me.
Review 95:Good location to get around the area, and only a 10 min walk from the town centre. Friendly helpful staff. Nice little restaurant, although a limited menu. Fee car parking. Good WiFi connection.
Review 96:We were visiting relatives in Shilbottle. We didn't want to travel too far from the overnight accommodation to visit them, and The Oaks was ideally located for us.
Review 97:Nothing everything was the best
Review 98:I like that we couldnt get a taxi from the treehouse when i rang the hotel the manager came and picked us up and no charge we also got breakfast in bed which made our stay amazing we would definitley stay here again 5 star defo
Review 99:being accused of booking for one person and turning up with two! Why on earth would a single mum and her child book as one? I am not dishonest and do not like being accused as such
Review 100:did what it says on the tin
Review 101:Road traffic noise early morning. However this was to be expected as Hotel situated near roundabout.
Review 102:Food and service. Staff were friendly and efficient.
Review 103:We went for 4 nights but a death in the family meant we only stayed 1 night. How-ever the owner Mr Martin Russell confirmed we could use the remaining 3 nights when we are ready. Many thanks to him.
Review 104:The noise from the room above, could here them walking around. The main bed mattress was lumpy, could feel the springs. Otherwise the food was good and the beer nice
Review 105:Located adjacent to 2 major roads, and roadworks taking place,so constant noise of traffic. No access to WIFi in room. Staff helpful, but still not available in room 30 Not cheap £65 for one night B and B
Review 106:Clean comfortable spacious bedroom. Excellent cooked breakfast.
Review 107:The room was a little bit spartan - but very comfortable - and could do with some redecoration.
Review 108:Good location, less than 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere, huge room, massive bed, good range of food and superb breakfasts. I would recommend this hotel - although to be fair it's really a pub - to anyone wishing to stay for a while in the area. It makes a good base for visiting Northumberland.
Review 109:Lighted sign shining outside the window not blocked by the curtains "Pie" consisting of meat and gravy in a dish, topped with a separately-cooked pastry "hat". Boiler "kettling" and knocking during the early part of the night and rattling the central heating radiators - a drop of Fernox would work wonders!
Review 110:friendly check-in and waiting staff, Quiet, large room with comfortable bed, tea/coffee etc. Good breakfast, nice beer
Review 111:traffic noise could not keep window open some unidentified banging during the last night sounded like radiators clanking loudly
Review 112:massive room massive bed lots of storage space and hangers bath as well as shower excellent furniture very comfortable staff friendly and informative meals superb close to Alnwick castle and gardens
Review 113:large comfy family room, great beds, good sized car park and great breakfast. I dropped something valuable down the sink and the hotel staff went to the trouble of getting it out of the trap and mailed it to me. What great staff!
Review 114:I appreciate that a full northumberland is normally fried but everything was dripping in oil to the extent that I couldn't eat it.
Review 115:The size of the room was great, my daughters loved it!
Review 116:This is a fairly old building. The creaking floor boards in adjoining rooms does interrupt your sleep.
Review 117:Good location on the outskirts of Alnwick. Staff are friendly and the hotel clean. There is a good selection of reasonably priced meals in the restaurant and a pensioners option at lunch times.
Review 118:The rooms get humid in summer, so you need to keep the windows open. Aircon isn't likely in such an old building but a fan would be nice. The breakfast wasn't great, but it was included.
Review 119:The room was clean and well maintained. Our room was directly above the main bar, but the noise was minimal. The bathroom has been refurbished and the shower is good - though the controls aren't that intuitive. Lots of free parking available, though it fills up a bit between 8pm - 10pm.
Review 120:Hotel (and staff!) seemed very tired and almost depressed. Staff were taken aback by someone who wanted a veggie cooked breakfast (surely not that startling in 2014) Stay was ok. Room was clean, everything worked, price wasn't bad but also kinda faded and lack-lustre...
Review 121:An excellently located hotel on the edge of Alnwick, just a couple of hundred yards from marvellous Barter Books and an easy drive to Alnmouth, Bamburgh etc.
Review 122:Expensive for what we got Staff could have been more friendly and engaging . Rooms looking tired and would benefit from re decoration . Breakfast until 10am would have been helpful . It was ok however too expensive for one night .
Review 123:Beds comfy Not too far from local attractions . Breakfast good Easy to find from A . Brown Ale perfectly chilled . 1
Review 124:Cleanliness Condition of furniture Cleanliness of carpets behind headboards and fixed furniture there was accumalated dust and cobwebs etc. On curtains there where woodlice. At night the room was cold and we had no way to heat room. Windows where drafty and allowed outside noise in - couldnt sleep due to main traffic noise due to windows. Also poor sleep due to room above - noise, creaking floors also when toilet or shower was used in another room there was a water noise outside window.
Review 125:Location
Review 126:Brilliant staff, pleasant, friendly and helpful. Ideal locations for visiting Alnwick Castle and surrounding areas. Great value food, parking easy to get to from A1.
Review 127:The room Carpet was not very clean looking. The only thing that need improving to match the rest of the room.
Review 128:No disturbance and the room was very spacious. The place felt very secure with it's own private parking. Well situated for the purpose of our trip. The Alnwick castle was only a 10 minute walk from the Oak Hotel. A very generous Breakfast and the service was good too. Staff are very friendly.
Review 129:See above
Review 130:I liked the size and cleanliness of the rooms however could hear our neighbours above walking around very clearly! Excellent breakfast friendly staff
Review 131:Maybe fans in the room- it was very very hot in the night and when you opened the window there was traffic noise.
Review 132:Nice staff. Clean and good space in room. Lovely breakfast. Location for town centre was perfect. Ample parking.
