Reviews for Le Catalan

Review 1:It is a bit of a hike from the town, about 120 steps, but for us the views compensated.

Review 2:Excellent buffet breakfast and equally good a la carte food in the evening

Review 3:Excellent room with lovely view from balcony. Flexible dining arrangements. Wide range of choice at breakfast including bacon, sausage and scrambled egg. Ample parking.

Review 4:Nothing.

Review 5:My second visit - a charming boutique hotel. Delightful owner and friendly staff. Very relaxed ambience and fantastic location overlooking the town and the sea.

Review 6:Disappointed no sandy beaches around. Local roads very windy. Long haul up from town and sea for 'seniors' on foot! Hotel rather 'tired' in places.

Review 7:Good sea view from balcony. Staff friendly and attentive. Dining room experience good both for breakfast and dinner. Valued the lift.

Review 8:The pool was not inviting as it looked murky, even though it was cleaned every day. There were no pool towels available. The menu for half board should have been written and posted up and it would have been better if there had been a choice for starter and main course.

Review 9:The views from the hotel bedroom and dining room were wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cheese trolley was the best we have seen.

Review 10:The bathroom had used empty toiletries over the shower , long black hairs in the bath and on the floor and basin. Shabby decor

Review 11:Good views. Easy parking

Review 12:The hotel needs urgently a renovation. Room was quite small. The breakfast is far away of being luxurious. overall quite bad price value ratio

Review 13:nice and friendly service at dinner

Review 14:Nothing significant. The wifi didn't quite reach my room so I had to linger in the passage to pick up a signal. My booking.com confirmation indicated breakfast only was included - in fact the way the rates were calculated I was on half board for two days but was unaware. Suspect this is a booking.com error.

Review 15:Charming hotel with excellent facilities. Great hospitality and a very welcoming owner who went the extra mile to collect me when my train was delayed. Fabulous location with spectacular views across the sea, while only a short brisk walk from the town of Banyuls. The tapas lunch is delicious and good value. Two swimming pools so plenty of space for all guests.

Review 16:Hard to find even with Satnav which tried to take us into a residential area and up a dirt track

Review 17:Hilltop location, excellent views, 100 steps down to the main town centre

Review 18:The maid service was ineffective as the ridge along the top of the tiles in the toilet was full of dust on arrival and still was when we left

Review 19:The view, pool, restaurant, staff, air con in room, most of the staff spoke English which helped a lot as my French is poor

Review 20:It took a long time to resolve the issue that the bath plug was missing Air conditioning worked but was very noisy and old couldn't really leave it on overnight

Review 21:Fabulous location with great balcony overlooking the Med Dinner in the restaurant was very good, with great service highlight of the stay. Arrival and check in easy Good parking a bonus as parking in Banyuls is tricky. Could walk in to the town

Review 22:Nothing in particular, a good stop and if weather had been warmer a swim would have been perfect.

Review 23:Off season guests we enjoyed the room with balcony over the pool, the warm welcome and ease of parking. Hotel a little difficult to find (go through Banyuls and its on main road as you go on to Cerbere) and restaurant looked good.

Review 24:The dining staff did not really know how to serve, given the star rating and price this was disappointing, having to ask for menus and then for information about the food etc rather than the waiter informing the customer was not a good advert for their restaurant. Simple things like explaining how the water system works, or checking if a restaurant is open before recommending it for that evening need improving.

Review 25:The owner and staff tried hard (sometimes a bit desperately). There was warmth and real helpfulness (when requested).

Review 26:I am thinking this was a top resort in the 60s/70s. It still has some quality features, and is very clean, just dated. Pleasant walk to downtown area for dinner, good breakfast value at hotel. Nice and professional staff. Absolutely beautiful views- I hope to come back!

Review 27:Carpet and decor was a littled dated but it was nice.

Review 28:Staff was super friendly and very accommodating. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was fabulous. Great view from our room. It was quiet and clean.

Review 29:Every time we went out in town we MUST leave the key on reception without having a safety box in the room. The reception personal had almost an agressive atitude towards this.It wasn't pleasant at all,it made us feel compelled.I have never met this unfriendly and agressive atitude in my trips ever!

Review 30:clean,beautiful view,5 minutes from center

Review 31:Air con very noisy so choice was cool with noise all night and no sleep or hot and no sleep. Could only book with half board. Needs smartened up outside. Usual small French bedrooms.

Review 32:Food was very good, restaurant was good service, staff were friendly. Location was good even though a fair distance from town centre.

Review 33:You can haer the noise of the concerts/pop music organised in thevillage - until late night

Review 34:Beatifull vue on the sea and vilage good food nice andflexible pesonel

Review 35:Restaurant service was very slow, demi-pension menu had no alternative dishes

Review 36:Rooms were air-conditioned, very clean, with a sea view, check in staff very friendly and helpfull.

Review 37:Dinner was served indoors in the restaurant. The setting sun was in diners eyes so the blinds were drawn. We would have preferred to sit on the terrace.

Review 38:Excellent location above the town.

Review 39:A lot of steps to climb back up from the town, we didn't mind but might be a problem for less infirm.

Review 40:Lovely hotel with friendly staff and beautiful views over the bay. Nice pool area which was well maintained.

Review 41:small lift

Review 42:setting pools and terraces seaview room comfortable and spacious lounge area good dining facilities pleasant helpful staff relaxed atmosphere air conditioning

Review 43:- Small breakfast - Smelly and musty towels - Very old furnitures/carpets everywhere - Re-Login WIFI every 2-5 minutes - Scary elevator - Slashing of 2 cabriolet roofs on parking space in front of hotel entrance -> will not come back again, until they renovate and make elevator and parking more secure (video) -> a pitty, they could do more out of the potential of this hotel, e.g. fitness room next to pool etc etc

Review 44:+ View from most rooms + Rooms < x18 side more see view + TV-program in all languages

Review 45:Very basic room. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. Expensive restaurant menu. 125 steps to walk up on returning from the town.

Review 46:Short walk to the town-although this was down 125 steps! Sea facing room was just that. Good bars/restaurants in the town.

Review 47:The only slight problem was that one of the rooms did not have a balcony or Air Conditioning (partly our own fault for asking for the 2 rooms to be close to each other) and they were not able to change this without us having to swop rooms twice during the week!

Review 48:Location was superb - fantastic sea views up a fairly steep (but manageable) hill from the lovely town of Banyuls. Hotel was great - felt typically French but with excellent facilities including lovely pools and terraces with the most fantastic views. Food was wonderful - they coped very well with the fact that two of us do not eat meat, and the cheese board was outstanding! The staff, particularly in the restaurant, were brilliant - really friendly and helpful. Stayed here for a week and didn't want to leave!

Review 49:1980s decor

Review 50:Great view, comfortable, friendly staff and good food.

Review 51:The staff were very friendly and professional and we had an excellent meal. Very good value also.

Review 52:Restaurant excellent.

Review 53:The location and menu were excellent.

Review 54:Fine location, pleasant staff, nice food, good value.

Review 55:Great views, food and facilities.

Review 56:Outdated bathroom. The breakfast.

Review 57:The ocean view. The dinner served in the restaurant

Review 58:This is a really sweet hotel with wonderful views. A little far from town but worth it because of the vista. Breakfast was good.

Review 59:The view. Friendly atmosphere. Dinner worth the half pension price.

Review 60:WiFi coverage variable

Review 61:Wonderful position very helpful staff

Review 62:Rather a long walk uphill from town or beach

Review 63:Superb views,helpful staff,good restaurant

Review 64:Like most other European facilities, ice is a hard to come by commodity. After complaining they were very accomodating

Review 65:The view was magnificent.

Review 66:Breakfast quite expensive.

Review 67:the steps uphill back to the hotel from the town. the cost of the breakfast

Review 68:All the staff are very friendly and helpful. nothing was too much trouble

Review 69:The beach, but that's not in hotel's control.

Review 70:Breathtaking view over the harbour. Hotel style and ambiance. Staff. Breakfast.

Review 71:The room was spacious; we stayed in a room with an ocean view. It´sworth every cent. Very friendly staff and a nice breakfast.

Review 72:slightly overpriced.

Review 73:Good restaurant and good service.

Review 74:The resort is a little tired. Needs a gardener and outside pool area and tiles unsafe

Review 75:The view the coastline the area

Review 76:Lovely staff who get to know their guests by face.

Review 77:Location and the Catalan dining

Review 78:The pillows were a little hard!

Review 79:The meal was the crowning glory of our short stay. The location is stunning with viewsof the ocean. Very dog friendly.

Review 80:Spacious, friendly, comfortable

Review 81:not much...

Review 82:we liked the position, inside decor, room size and comfort, and staff friendly and helpful.

Review 83:the noise and the decoration

Review 84:sea view

Review 85:The building looked a bit 'uncared' for as were the gardens (end of season fatigue!)

Review 86:A quite location with good panoramic views

Review 87:Bedrooms seem old and could use a makeover. Breakfast was average.

Review 88:Nice view, great location, good staff. A pleasant experience overall.

Review 89:Tipus de wifi

Review 90:L'atenció del personal

Review 91:lovely staff and the cat morning view from the balcony (sea and mountains)

Review 92:Wifi worked only intermittently; loud music in town one night which kept us awake.

Review 93:The views, food, service, swimming pools, the room

Review 94:WiFi was very sporatic.

Review 95:wonderful views

Review 96:nothing

Review 97:awesome view, aircon, good showers

Review 98:Restaurant menu didn't change. Could do with a daily special for those not on full board. No facilities for the disabled.

Review 99:Great sea view with balcony; friendly welcoming very helpful staff; pools; breakfast really good including bacon eggs etc. if wanted but not cheap. Easy plentiful parking.

Review 100:The only problem was wifi as it said it was free but it turned out you had to sign up to Orange and you got 24hours free Wifi then.

Review 101:The location of the hotel was amazing with brilliant views over the sea. The restaurant food and wine were excellent. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious with all facilities. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The pools were lovely although a bit more shade would have been good.

Review 102:Difficulty in finding parking down near the beach and central area. Wifi was spotty.

Review 103:Beautiful view! Excellent and accommodating staff. Good restaurant.

Review 104:Our room was the very last room at the end of the hall, so our Wi-Fi was minimal. Deal breaker? No way!! Great place to stay.

Review 105:My wife and I took our adult granddaughter to Spain and France, and stayed at the La Catalan for one night. Their breakfast and supper was amazingly delicious. The view from our balcony was gorgeous. Staff were extremely helpful, and the La Catalan was very clean. The La Catalan is on the very south end of town atop a nice sized hill giving you great views of the town and sea.

Review 106:Having to wait for service as it was the beginning of the season and staffing was at minimum.

Review 107:We loved the heated swimming pool as we visited early in the season.

Review 108:It will be nice if the internet were available in the rooms, besides the connection on the living was poor.

Review 109:Breakfast buffet is very complete. Free parking in the area.

Review 110:Only one waiter in the breakfast room meant things kept on running out. Didn't like the coffee maker. Large pool was very cold.

Review 111:Location of hotel. Fabulous views from balcony. Fantastic breakfasts. Heated swimming pool. Very comfortable accommodation and courteous staff.

Review 112:The tramontane wind - not the hotels fault, but very noisy through the night

Review 113:Friendly staff. Happy to have my dog in bedroom and dining room. Great food.

Review 114:Breakfast was much too expensive, coffee machine didn't work on day 1 and staff member on that morning inefficient, food choice in restaurant very limited and well out of our price range, no coffe/ tea in bedroom

Review 115:Room, views, facilities, clean Iiness, position, nice feel to the hotel, helpful reception staff

Review 116:Fabulous view from loggia. Yes, it's a 10 main walk to the town and bay, but there is a choice of road or steps. Well worth it to be higher up and have the view. Small heated pool, bigger unheated one.

Review 117:The whole place was tired, needs updating, decorating, actually needs a fair amount spent on it.

Review 118:The views were fabulous, from the room and from the restaurant.

Review 119:Lack of real choice on half board menu though some dishes would be replaced if requested. Could find very little to tempt us on the full price menu; it was influenced by the proximity to Spain. The large swimming pool had slippy and difficult steps, and a most peculiarly shaped bottom, so difficult to swim in it.

Review 120:Location out of town but easy enough to walk into town. View excellent. Staff friendly, but waiting and bar staff sometimes a little inexperienced. Most staff wanted to speak English, even when we said our French was OK.

Review 121:No pillow case on the pillow, uncomfortable pillows, noise from room next door could hear them cleaning their teeth and using their bathroom very clearly

Review 122:View from the room over the harbour, fridge in the room

Review 123:Not clean breakfast area. Breakfast not good but relatively expensive.WiFi only available a few meters around the reception.

Review 124:Clean room, Air conditioning. Good view from pool area.

Review 125:Very helpful and friendly staff without being obsequious. Good rooms - at least ours with a sea-view. Very spacious and uncluttered shared areas. Tasteful outside area and good swimming pools. Very good food indeed so no need to go a la carte.

Review 126:absolutely amazing setting, the view was perfect from our balcony, very easy to get to Collioure, lovely staff, and adorable cat :) we are definitely coming back soon..highly recommend it to anyone

Review 127:it was located on the hills overlooking the sea, however it was a short drive to the astual downtown. he town was quite busy and I persoanlly enjoyed staying in a quieter locationl

Review 128:Spacious open air hotel with great in house resturant with lovely views.

Review 129:That I did not feel welcomme I felt moore like an intruder, the guy attending to the breakfast buffet was grumpy and looked supprised each morning when he had to make refills.

Review 130:The view from the hotell rooms are great. The pool area was big and also had a nice view.
