Reviews for Hotel Restaurant Palais Cardinal
Review 1:Extremely poor value for money, although appreciate that staying in the heart of Saint Emilion is never going to be inexpensive, and my stay was out of season, my room was cold, dark, damp, dusty and small. Furnishings were something out of Al Stewart's Bedsitter Images, so pretty much the inverse of the photos posted on the website, and not what I was expecting based on the price of the room.
Review 2:Great location
Review 3:The bathroom was quite small with a very low roof, we couldn't stand up in the shower. The towels were very thin and worn.
Review 4:The location in the town, being at the top and at one end, provided good access to restaurants etc and also to lovely walks through vineyards.
Review 5:Swimming pool wasn't always available, had to ask if we could use it as the stairs had been removed, told yes and to put the stairs in ourselves! Price expected was not what appeared on our bill and much negotiation at check out.
Review 6:Location was good, pool area and gardens nice.
Review 7:Nothing!
Review 8:The hotel is positioned at the edge of the centre of St Emillion, is a classical old French hotel with quiet gardens, pool and recently modernised rooms. Very friendly staff.
Review 9:This was the most expensive of the 5 hotels we experienced on our tour and the least comfortable. Very cramped room, less than helpful receptionist on the day we arrived, and charge of 15euros to park our car. No prior warning that dinner unavailable that evening.
Review 10:Very good setting, and the receptionist on second day extremely helpful.
Review 11:The wifi only worked in the foyer and not in the room. The restaurant was closed on the Tuesday night we stayed there. We were really looking forward to having a meal at the restaurant however the staff recommended a very good restaurant within walking distance.
Review 12:The hotel is very centrally situated in the town and the staff were very helpful - however their english was very limited. It was lovely having a swim and lying in the sun during our stay.
Review 13:The comfort rooms were only good for an overnight crash, and not suitable if you had a fair amount of luggage. They should install a shower holder up high so you don't have to hold the shower spray while washing
Review 14:The suites were good value but pillows could be better
Review 15:A small room and bathroom but that didn't surprise us.The bed dipped in the middle; otherwise it was very comfortable.
Review 16:The location, the welcome given by all the staff we had dealings with.
Review 17:Since it was the off season they closed after I left for the day. I had no other option but to store my luggage (unattended) in their garage while I explored town that day. My room and other furnishings in the hotel were a little dated. Breakfast was expensive for what was offered - should have went out. The desk clerk when I checked in was very friendly, but spoke very litle English.
Review 18:Good price and location.
Review 19:Room a little small. Had to shower bent over because of sloping roof (but i'm quite tall)
Review 20:Location. Friendly staff. Parking facility. Nice breakfast buffet.
Review 21:Room smelled very musty Shower over bath did not have wall bracket for shower head, had to hold it! Tried to charge me 31 euros for a (non connected) call to the UK Breakfast overpriced at 11 euros for basic bread pastries (no hot food)
Review 22:Location Large Room
Review 23:The room we were first given was small and poky and the decor in that part of the hotel seemed very tired and due for an upgrade. The junior staff were enthusiastic and pleasant but there seems to be a lack of management and supervision. The breakfast was fair only for the price.
Review 24:This hotel is in a good position at the top of the street, and central to the many excellent shops and restaurants and the secure car park is very conveniently situated nearby. The newly built rooms at the rear are spacious and comfortable and the swimming pool is pleasant.
Review 25:The rooms were very, very small, no space for suit cases, only room forone bedside table and lamp. No airconditioning, bathroom so small thatyou couldn't stand up in the shower. Photographs on line weremisleading.
Review 26:The pool was very pleasant, a good location.
Review 27:Noisy at night if you have a room on the street side. I would next time request a room on the garden side even at a bit more money. Unless traffic noises do not bother you.
Review 28:Location was fantastic to explore St. Emilion or to drive out to visit chateauxs. The pool in the afternoon was a lovely transition before heading out at night. Rooms were a bit small but there is little time that you spend in the room. Parking is available on site which is a nice plus.
Review 29:Unable to sleep after finding countless bed bugs covering the pillows. Staff member at reception did not offer an apology and was quite rude Implied we were making it up as they couldn't find any bugs, luckily photographic evidence and bites proved otherwise.
Review 30:Location was good
Review 31:The room was a horrific shade of orange! The bed was quite small and thin and the pillows were virtually non- existent!
Review 32:The location was amazing, the pool was gorgeous and the outside of the building was beautiful. The garden view from the room was great.
Review 33:Staff were outstanding. Friendly and helpful evening receptionist and Chef and trainee chef stopped at nothing to open a suitcase lock for which we had lost the key. Excellent restayrant
Review 34:Breakfast too costly so did not have but found a lovely little bar a few minutes walk away where we had croissants and tea and coffee.
Review 35:The terrace and swimming pool area were lovely especially to sit and have aperitifs.
Review 36:Lack of air conditioning and head space in shower.

Review 71:Bed was too hard for me.
Review 72:Female staff were fantastic. Responded efficiently and in a friendly manner to all requests. Location is fabulous being right in the village and within walking distance of cafés and attractions. A home away from home with beautiful relaxing garden and pool.
Review 73:Bathroom was not very clean (we found a toe nail on the floor) and the shower was not working very well (the tub was blocked so the water wasn't flowing down the pipe properly)
Review 74:Great hotel and super convenient location
Review 75:The rooms are extremly small. It's like living on a boat...
