Reviews for Thalacap Catalogne
Review 1:The hotel is a bit dated (rust in bath etc). During the night there were strong winds which created a loud whistling sound on the balcony and banging inside the room all night!! Very difficult to sleep.
Review 2:Location was great with a good view.
Review 3:Internet not working and a room straight from the 1970's. All that for Euro 159/- per night (we did not use the spa facilities, due to tight schedule). You can find much better hotels locally for half the price. To be avoided!!
Review 4:Rather rule orientated eg my husband was refused access to the outdoor pool because he had swim shorts on rather than briefs! The compulsory hats and robes made it have a hospital feel!
Review 5:Great location with views over the sea good base to explore the coast. Good spa if you are into all that.
Review 6:Our evening meal, was not a success. The starter came quickly and was good. The mania arrived half an hour later and had obviously been hanging around. The waitress looked embarrassed and gave.a sort of apology. It is a long walk, downhill, into Banyuls... Beware! Breakfast was only average, I thought.
Review 7:The location was the reason we came and it did not disappoint. The staff were pleasant and friendly.
Review 8:mosquitoes everywhere prevent you from sleeping. and as we came in the room we noticed that squished mosquitoes on the doors ceilings and walls. blue neon sign lit up at night
Review 9:View breakfast is ok
Review 10:Don't bother paying for breakfast, it's a waste of time and money. The waiter is unfriendly (unlike other staff), and doesn't seem interested in replenishing the breakfast offerings. Unless you are early ie before 8.30 I think you will end up with only a hard boiled egg and a bit of baguette, perhaps a yogurt. Because everything else will be gone, so no brioche, croissant, ham, cheese or fruit.
Review 11:Very comfortable rooms in a great location with excellent views.
Review 12:Though the restaurant serves food of good quality, outside of meal times ( lunch 12-2) they won't even make you a sandwich. I was told that after 2pm, the only food available was ice cream !! You are quite a way from any shops so this is an important detail to consider. No tea/coffee in the rooms either.
Review 13:Spa hotel overlooking the quaint sea side town of Banyuls. The spa is excellent Very relaxing - the rooms are sparce and simple but their balconies overlooking the sea are the most intetesting detail.
Review 14:My wife and I stayed for two nights. Trashy room and furniture. The Hotel must be 80 years old and renovations are scarce. Still, you pay like you are actually going to enjoy a nice spa in the French coast. The tile floor was simply unacceptable, everything seemed teenage-proof, like a cheap journey back in time to a charter-destination in the 70's.
Review 15:Weird resort feel Felt a bit out of place Long walk to the beach
Review 16:Luxurious rooms
Review 17:Staff, particularly reception, a bit too indifferent for a hotel with its star rating. Didn't like guests walking around at breakfast in their "spa" robes.
Review 18:Great location
Review 19:The view from my room was primarily of the town and not much of the seaand I had one of the best rooms. Had to rent safety deposit box inreception area for 5 eur. Had to remember to lock my room door behindme--it did not lock automatically.
Review 20:Loved the salt water pools-- big enough to swim in. Beautiful setting.
Review 21:no wine glasses, bread knife or oven - just a small micro-wave. Parking can be an issue especially if you go out for the day with your car and return after 3pm you will possibly find it difficult to park.
Review 22:spotlessly clean and fantastic view from the balcony - walk up from town would keep you fit but exhausting when hot! All staff very helpful - didn't use the restaurant.
Review 23:Unfriendly/unhelpful staff (specially in the bar). Strange, labyrinth-style lay-out of the hotel. Isolated from the village of Banyuls.
Review 24:The 'partial' view from the balcony (make sure you ask for 'full' sea view!). The Restaurant (when it wasn't fully booked!). The Pools.
Review 25:The whole hotel is ugly, and looks run down and unkempt. The passagewaysare dark and austere. The service was not friendly, although it wasadequate. The spa was overrated, smelled of chlorine, and the saunaclosed earlier than the rest of the spa. This is not a luxury resort, although if the price is low, it would be fine.
Review 26:The room was spacious and had a balcony and a view. The self servicebreakfast was good.
Review 27:Sterile feeling, like a hospital, not at all warm or compelling to stay.Staff was not very helpful for finding restaurants in the town orwilling to change the room for a better, warmer room to stay. Overallvery dissappointing.
Review 28:Poor condition of the rooms. Did not correspond at all to thephotographs on the site.
Review 29:The 150 steps back up to the hotel from the town kept us fit!
Review 30:Very relaxing, helpful friendly staff, plenty of space to move around, light and airy. Magnificent location, stunning views.
Review 31:The rooms are very dated and very basic, we had air conditioning and thats about it. Everything was functional but looks like a 70's time warp.
Review 32:Thalacap has excellent views if you can get a room with a sea view, the breakfasts are buffet style and plentiful, cheese ham, cereals, juice etc. If you like Spa treatments there are dozens to chose from, outdoor pool (very salty) was nice and the indoor pool (fresh) was also very good. Just on the edge of the main section within easy walking distance (5 mins) to the restaurants, free parking. Staff very helpful.
Review 33:Hotel has a worn 70s feel. Could really use a good renovation !The tennis court and surrounding areas were also in desperate needof repair.
Review 34:I liked the view from the hotel! Even though the hotel wasn't close tobeach and town the walk there was charming ! It was good exercise towalk back up those stairs! The breakfast that was included was verygood. We also had lunch there and again the food was good. Lunch wasserved on the terrace and what a spectacular view it was!
Review 35:The hotel was bigger than I had hoped and had a slightly impersonal feel about it. Also although I knew it was a spa I didn't realise that eveyone would be wandering about in dressing gowns ! However the hotel facilities etc. were fine and maybe I didn't look closely enough to the description.
Review 36:Very kind and accommodating when I showed up well before check-in.
Review 37:No burmuda shorts in pool - why
Review 38:swimming pool - dinner in the resturant
