Reviews for Hotel GHM Monachil
Review 1:When we checked in we were told that we couldn't have a double room, even though we had asked twice. We checked in before friends who were given a double room without even asking for one! They swapped with us fortunately. This was a 50th birthday celebration and I think the receptionist could have been a little more helpful, but basically she wasn't truthful. We live in Granada and we felt that the drinks in the bar were very expensive. Wanted a hot tub but heard it was only 34C.
Review 2:Cleanliness, room layout (after we swapped), most of the staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Food was bountiful and fresh. Lots of choice even for us as vegetarians.
Review 3:We could hear the people in the next room as if they were in our own The food was only average or a little bellow Parking was payed, even though there were no other options to park in the surrounding
Review 4:The heating worked well The space in the hotel was nice, and nothing was worn down
Review 5:We asked for extra pillows at 6pm only to be told that housekeeping had gone and therefore we couldn't have any. We had minimal sleep as the pillows we did have were very poor
Review 6:The hotels facilities, bar, spa, ski rental ease.
Review 7:Hotel is dated and breakfast was simple, the window in the room did not close properly and the draft whistled all night with the wind. There are no night life or restaurants around and there is no taxi service or lift back up to the hotel from the main square after 9pm. 200 steps and a 20 mins uphill struggle after a long day could be a struggle for some.
Review 8:Staff are friendly and onsite parking is available at a cost of 8 euros a day.
Review 9:once we turned on the heater, it smelled like smoke coming through the heater. this only happened once out of the three times we turned it on, but I am sensitive to smoke so we had a cold night!
Review 10:great location, breakfast wasn't fabulous but it had a lot of variety and things I could eat (I'm gluten-free and dairy-free- they had eggs and veggies and sausages). the spa was amazing!
Review 11:Beds were a bit uncomfortable. Triple rooms very small
Review 12:Great buffet breakfast. Good to have a bar in the hotel Spa and massage in the hotel a plus Staff were very friendly. Parking at the hotel very good
Review 13:The staff are so helpful, willing to please, one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Great family hotel with lovely service, would highly recommend.
Review 14:bathrooms need updating beds need updating, a little uncomfortable
Review 15:very clean staff were very nice parking on site breakfast was lovely comfortable seating upstairs hotel kept at a perfect tempreture
Review 16:The hotel is quite rustic and the interior lacks charm but was excellent value. At €112 for 3 nights half board you couldn't go wrong. My room was basic but comfortable and clean. It was the last on the corridor and just outside the wifi range. The hotel didn't have many guests staying as it was early in the ski season which was fine but I always think hotels should upgrade you to a better room when they are not so busy. The shower needs to be upgraded.
Review 17:Friendly helpful staff, especially the cheerful and chatty Olga at the apres ski bar. I would stay again for the friendliness, value and location.
Review 18:I did not like the maitresses and I missed a ping pong table. Also the prices for sauna and jacuzzi were crazy! No views at all at 401
Review 19:I enjoyed the rest of the facilities and location and the staff was friendly
Review 20:The place felt a little tired but at that price who cares.
Review 21:This was an Ideal location for a bikers road trip stop-over. The food was great and plentiful, the beer superb. Our last minute half board deal made this the cheapest hotel on our route at under €25 per head (four people, two rooms). Although we were rather out of place in a ski resort we were made very welcome.
Review 22:Dinner wasn't good and the room was in quite a bad state of repair, especially the bathroom, with a lot of damp.
Review 23:Great breakfast and friendly, helpful staff.
Review 24:Its a unpretentious but still interesting cosy hotel that brings you into the atmosphere of a typical mountain chalet . The staff is nice and helpful and the bar/terrace is a delightful place to hang on for an apres-ski where you can enjoy a outstanding gin and tonic together with the typical tapas. Don't expect luxury, but a place where you can feel at home and regain energy for the following day at the slopes.
Review 25:Location not good to far from the ski village you're out of it beds hard noise coming from somewhere like air con unit every half an hour outside of room Wanted treatments at the spa as this wS one of main reasons for staying here but told that it's finished now for season also. No Internet in rooms as advertised had to go to reception and sit there to get it if we had of known there'd be none of these services available we would. It have stayed here
Review 26:Bar area ok and outside terrace good
Review 27:Use of a hot tub was advertised but when we inquired about it they said it had been switched off for the end of the season
Review 28:Great location, value for money. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 29:Noise from other guests was disturbing. The WIFI did not work in most part of the hotel.
Review 30:Perfectly located the GHM Monachil offers very good value for money. The style is old and rustic, and the food (breakfast and dinner buffet) was very good.
Review 31:The hotel entrance could be cleaner outside. Sometimes we found plates in the buffet restaurant not so clean.
Review 32:The personnel is very nice and helpful. You can go to ski after checking out, and pick-up your luggage and have a shower later in the afternoon.
Review 33:The service offered by the hotel to pre book your ski equipment made things so much easier. We literally collected our skis, boots, poles and helmets half an hour before we were on the ski slopes, which are directly outside the hotel. Estefan in the ski shop deserves a particular mention.
Review 34:Nothing
Review 35:We only stayed here for one night so didn't experience a lot of the hotel, but the reception area was beautiful, the room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was varied, delicious and plentiful - exactly what you need before a day on the slopes! There's also a chairlift that brings you most of the way up from the main squares, although it stops at 5.30!
Review 36:The hotel only had wifi up to the first floor which seemed a little odd. Also the hotel seemed to attract a very young drinking crowd so I would not recommend this hotel for families
Review 37:The hotel was quite out of town which we thought would be good in terms of bringing a young family but in fact it meant that all the late night revellers simply stayed in and made noise for most of the night. The facilities were good and it is a ski in/ski out hotel which was great.
Review 38:The hotel was a little tired everywhere and could do with a face lift but it didn't put us off we would stay there again definitely.
Review 39:Location was fantastic and the rooms were very warm . Breakfast excellent
Review 40:Good value for money. Staff nice and help, good food, clean and tidy. Very well located, just off a red/ blue lane. I was a great weekend sky retreat. I heard from "senior" locals that it was the best snow ever seen in S. Nevada in the last 50 years. I look forward to come back and st ay in this nice hotel.
Review 41:No one in our group had a good nights sleep, the rooms were either far too hot or freezing. Although I loved the rest of the hotel I wouldn-t stay again due to no one being able to sleep.
Review 42:The bar downstairs was great, also the terrazza, jumps and being able to ski from the hotel was fantastic.
Review 43:These are just small niggles but wouldn't prevent us from going again!! 1. Bar doesn't open until 1pm. No tea/coffee/drinks available until then! (We had 2 days where slopes not open until pm) 2. No wifi in bedrooms 3. Some staff (eg man in reception) was not customer friendly. 4. Limited parking at a €7 p/d fee (we thought it said free parking at time of booking) 5. Lockers were not in a heated area so we still had to take ski boots to room to dry overnight.
Review 44:1. Rooms were very warm and cleaned daily 2. Food was very good 3. Brilliant location for ski in/out as well as the chair lift to the village 4. Most of the staff were very friendly and courteous 5. Value for money 6. Excellent relaxing area with games for kids on 1st floor. 7. Free lockers for ski equipment
Review 45:We liked the friendly reception and the helpful advice given. We liked the warm, spacious room with en suite bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean. There were extra blankets but these were not required. Great views from room Window. Easy to fall asleep Wight little or no noise. All in all ideal for a ski break and will return again soon.
Review 46:WIFI not in rooms. Room shabby and unwelcoming. The hot food was cold, and hadn't been topped up, and so hardly any choice. Over- run with teenagers on school trip. This is a hostal
Review 47:Nice staff, excellent location with ski in, ski out. Good shower.
Review 48:A couple of really rude staff ! Utterly unacceptable. Not willing to help ! Thank god for a few lovely staff ! Towels weren't always replaced when left on the floor ( as instructed)
Review 49:Really lovely location and great storage for equipment in basement. Really nice breakfast and good choice. A couple of really lovely staff; head waitress in breakfast hall and Elvira in reservations
Review 50:Bed very hard Wifi only in reception area. Poor mobile phone connection Unfriendly/Unwelcoming receptionist
Review 51:Location next to slope was excellent Super large bed and size of room and bathroom The large bath in the room
Review 52:1) Family room was too small. 2) At night was rather chilly due to heaters being switched off, was waking up at irregular intervals to ensure my 2 year old son was covered with the bed sheets.
Review 53:1) Immediate access to slopes. 2) 5 minute walk to all Amenities.
Review 54:Starting the second evening of out stay, there was a smell of smoking (and not only tabac, but also some soft drug) coming out of the ventilation in the bathroom (coming from other room). It was annoying and disgusting, hence today I rate badly the cleanliness for that reason.
Review 55:Too many school kids not controlled enough by the teachers, felt sorry for waiting staff in restaurant. They could do with having a different sitting time for the school kids.
Review 56:Location was perfect for us as not worried about going to town in evening although could get chair lift down early evening, could ski in/ski out. Great sundowner bar watching the kids sledging. Excellent value for money, we had a suite on floor 5 with fantastic views of the slopes.
Review 57:The internet wifi only in second floor.
Review 58:The room was okey, but i like more if the bed bigger enough not like two small single bed put in two because while were sleeping the bed move in to separate. And i dont like the doble bed up and down because i am afraid my children slept in up high they are 6yrs and 4yrs not as safe for them. So i they slept both in down bed.
Review 59:1. I didn't like the extreme hard mattresses; 2. I didn't like the fact that there was no Wifi contrary to what was / is written in the description of the hotel.
Review 60:the location. you can "drive in" by ski ...
Review 61:The wifi connection did not work in the rooms, apparently due to a temporary problem. It only worked in the reception area.
Review 62:Beautiful sunny terrace looking on to the slopes. Great value for money for the the couples spa experience (massage + sauna + bubble bath).
Review 63:Double beds were first come basis. Car was towed away no warning from staff about parking outside (just small written signs). Booking.com said all facilities included but we had to pay for sauna. Wifi not in rooms.
Review 64:Location. New Years celebration
Review 65:Resturant staff rude and didn't include our children on New Year's Eve! ( made me sad ) food awful especially New Year's Eve! TV not watchable as it is in the corner on top of the bunk bed! No wifi available in rooms! No bar in the area where families sit, due to a financial arrangement with the bar downstairs... Not part of the hotel! Floors in Hotel filitlhy! My eldest son joined us for dinner on ny eve! The food was freezing, soggy prawns to start and cold steak and potatoes to follow! They didn't charge us for his food thankfully!
Review 66:The location was perfect! Straight onto the piste. The reception staff fantastic. Great sized room. Sadly we came for New Year's Eve and the whole experience here was ruined by the restaurant staffs attitude and the disgusting food! Freezing cold steak! However the hotel did not charge us for my sons food which was only fair since it was inedible. We were lucky with parking as I am a master blagger...but be aware if you stay here... You must must pre book parking as it gets full and many guests had to walk 10 minutes to nearest car park! Not good when it's freezing xx
Review 67:It's old run down. No maintenance. As you enter the receptio smells terrible. Rooms are sized an decorated as in jail. Food barely eatable. Wi fi is a lie.
Review 68:What I did not like was when i stayed in the hotel there was no WiFi in the rooms the only place you could get WiFi was in the reception and first floor, so every time I need to use it I had to go to reception.
Review 69:For a couple with kids is very good, service was good, food good and very clean and if I go again to Serra Nevada I would stay again the same hotel. :)
Review 70:Perfect location for ski in ski out. Great view over the town and valley. We enjoyed the terrace with BBQ for afterski. Breakfast was exellent. Good parking facilities in gated area in front of the hotel. Easy to walk to town, look for the stairs that will take you in a shortcut. Ski rental in hotel and a posibility to have you ski pass ready in reception when you get there adds to the easy comfort.
Review 71:The room was a bit small. We were traveling with a child and instead of one single bed for him and a double bed for us, we had two single beds pushed together and a third single bed by the window. The room was also quite cold, and the heating vent did little to warm up the room, but that also could've been because it was the first day they were open for the season, and the hotel as a whole needed a bit of time to warm up.
Review 72:By far, the best feature of the hotel is the breakfast buffet. The variety and the quality of the items offered were the best we've had in the area so far. The staff were all very friendly and always answered with a smile.
Review 73:Rooms were very small and roughly decorated
Review 74:Lots of space, good location and good facilities.
Review 75:food was the worst ever
Review 76:Staff friendly
Review 77:Food was excellent and very family friendly.
Review 78:Nice assorted breakfast
Review 79:The receptionist at the front desk is not helpful
Review 80:The food wasnt great everyday
Review 81:Liked the fact that all services where within reach. Rental of skigear, bar, restaurant, spa and kids games room.
Review 82:Right near the cable to take us to the main square Staff very helpful and friendly Rooms very warm and spacious
Review 83:bad internet connexion in the rom
Review 84:Breakfast and dinner
Review 85:All the staff very friendly and helpful. Convenient ski hire on-site.
Review 86:Parking charge
Review 87:Having to pay €29 to park for 3 nights
Review 88:Friendly staff and the location
Review 89:No Wi Fi......restuarant standard quite poor ... beds not comfortable. Not the kind of hotel you would hang around in.
Review 90:Close to the Ski lift
Review 91:hotel rooms need a complete overhaul very tired and dirty

Review 100:Room dirty. poor lighting .food poor

Review 102:Walk back from main square when lift closed hard work all the way up the hill.

Review 113:Location
Review 114:Nothing i didnt like
Review 115:Loved the location to watch the skiers and have a drink almost on the sloaps
Review 116:Location is a little out of the village
Review 117:Good value for money Very friendly staff
Review 118:Wifi did not work in the rooms
Review 119:Its location
Review 120:there was nothing I did not like ..
Review 121:this is a great place to stay.. staff very friendly and helpful... Room very clean and breakfast amazing.. would stay there again...
Review 122:The rooms are small and very basic. The staff were not very friendly and did not have local knowledge. There was no possibility to park anywhere. The hotel is at the wrong end of a one way street and not clearly signed. There was wifi but you had to sit within 5 metres of it to get receoption. The hotel is in need of renovations and is quite worn out. For a ski-ing hotel, there are ski lockers for rent which do not fit snow boards in, and no where to dry out ski clothes or boots.
Review 123:close to the slopes, so you can ski in and ski out.
Review 124:Good grief. There's not enough time in the world to do this place the justice it so expensively deserves. Above all the food was an abomination. Presumably some animals gave up their lives for the "buffet" but I'm not sure what they were. They can rest assured their lives at least enabled countless noxious, poisonous microorganisms to thrive. I'd love to have taken swabs from surfaces. It's a damning indictment that the Spanish can allow food preparation and standards like these to go unpunished. The room, beds, soft furnishings, bathrooms, electrics were all dreadful. The ski lockers were too small. And falling to bits. Everywhere there was broken furniture. The whole hotel stinks of disinfectant. All the time. The internet was available, but only on the ground and first floor communal areas and it was dreadfully slow. TV reception was a joke. It's a long walk down (and further coming back!) to the resort centre. The whole place reeked of trying to get as much money as possible for the hotel, whilst giving least possible service to the guests. Never, ever again.
Review 125:Tricky to find something good to say about this place. Errrr. Here's one: The over-worked receptionist tried hard to make up for a very poor hotel.
Review 126:we did not like the fact that the only way the room door can be closed from outside is to slam it - otherways the lock will not let you. This meant that people were slamming doors all night long and it made the hotel noisy.
Review 127:We had a booking for a family room, but had been changed to two double rooms which in fact is a good offer but do not work with small children. The rooms were not tidy, no illumination in the shower, broken water tabs, missing furniture, sub-standard beds and blankets. In fact, the entire building seems to be in urgent need of maintenance / major renovation. The food was not of the standard I would expect in a ski resort hotel. The breakfast was a disappointment with very few choises of greasy stuff on the buffet table. All in all, our stay in this hotel was a huge disappointment and was definitively not value for the money.
Review 128:The only positive thing was the location just next to the slopes
Review 129:Looked dated and in need of redecorating.
Review 130:There was a car space inside the garage but if that wasn't available then I don't know where I would have left the car as everywhere was full of parked cars and snow.
Review 131:The hotel, although clean, is not very modern or pretty to look at. It is drafty especially in the lounge area on the first floor and the door to our room´s balcony did not shut as well as it should. And what makes matters worse is that there is a balcony off the lounge where smokers go to smoke and so the door is open a lot. And speaking of smoking...many guests were smoking in their rooms or in the hallways even though the hotel is no smoking. We mentioned this to reception and they assured us this could not be the case because there are smoke detectors throughout the hotel, which there are, but that doesn´t mean that they work. I looked at a few (the one in our room and another in the hallway) and there was no light on or other sign that they were actually working. (If true, very troubling indeed as The Lodge Hotel that is in front of the Monachil, burned to the ground last month.) We also complained about the WiFi which according to the hotel´s web page is throughout the hotel. We were given 3 different answers as to why it wasn´t working by 3 different staff member at reception. None really offered and apology or compensation. You have to pay a deposit for almost everything except the room key. Laminated parking placard 12€, ski locker key 3€, ski pass 3€ etc. (A deposit for the ski pass is pretty normal 12€ for a laminated piece of paper seems a bit extreme and it must be paid in cash.) It snowed quite a bit during our visit and no real effort was made to clear the hotel´s car park of snow. On the morning of our departure we were told that someone could be found to give us a push if necessary. All this said you get what you pay for and the location really can´t be beat. We experience really bad weather during our stay (snow, wind and ice) which meant that we didn´t get to snow as much as we would have liked. Not the Monachil´s fault, but at check-out I mentioned that it was a shame that we had had such bad weather during our stay.
Review 132:The location cannot be beat being truly ski in/ski out. And value for money. Being ski in/ski out one would expect to pay a lot more for the location alone, but overall the Monachil is fine. An added plus was the ski rental/service shop right in the hotel that did a very good job on my skis. We only had breakfast and it was fine - variety etc. But why oh why is there not fresh normal milk on the buffet. You have to ask for it. There is soy and lactose free milk, but no regular milk other than the hot ¨milk¨ (most likely powdered) that is dispensed from the coffee machines. The bar/cafeteria is nice although when we asked about it on our first night we were told that during the week it was closed and that we could have a drink by taking the evening meal buffet after 20:00. This turned out to be false, but we didn´t figure it out until the next night. Our communication problems with reception were definitely not language-based as my wife is Spanish. Apart from reception the housekeeping and bar/restaurant staff were excellent.
The Fine Print
