Reviews for Hôtel de l'Amphithéâtre
Review 1:Our room was located in the fifth floor with no elevator. We were not informed of this fact until check in and nobody helped us with the luggage. The bathroom in our room was in a lower floor so you have to go down and up as many times you need it. Our room was not cleaned and when I call to complain nobody answered our call. We had to use the same towels the day after, after leaving them in the floor.
Review 2:Location
Review 3:It's position in the town. Lovely room and facilities. Excellent breakfast. We didn't have a car so it suited us perfectly. I'm not sure what parking would be like. But why use a car when French public transport is so good?
Review 4:Only issue with it being an older building is that I could hear the plumbing each time the next door room turned on water etc. Quite loud....otherwise all good.
Review 5:Beautiful decor and lovely ambience in common areas.
Review 6:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a reasonable size and the hotel deco was lovely. It was a very comfortable stay. We got the choice of room. Good location
Review 7:We stayed in a "value room". The room and bathroom were very small even by European standards. I think rooms in the other part of the hotel were probably more spacious and better decorated.
Review 8:The location was wonderful! It was right in the heart of Arles' old town near the Amphitheater. The management was very helpful with directions and the waiter in the breakfast room was very attentive.
Review 9:Stayed for seven days and on entering the bathroom saw the bracket for the shower head was broken. Reported it the first evening and still wasn't fixed when we left. Not easy to have a shower holding spray head with one hand and trying to get soap from the wall dispenser with the other. It was a small inexpensive repair that really should have been sorted out in 7 days.
Review 10:Large comfortable room. Very clean. Quiet location. Very nice breakfast with excellent quality ingredients and great coffee.welcoming staff.
Review 11:Loved the room, the staff, the view out the windows, the size and comfort of the suite. While our original booking was not honored because of a staff error, the staff made up for the error by offering us a choice of other rooms and reducing the room rates.
Review 12:The bathroom though very clean and having all you need was very small.
Review 13:Fabulous location in an appealing older building. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 14:All good!
Review 15:Great location in a quiet side street very close to all the key sites. Staff were very friendly and helpful (moreso than tourist information) but also non-intrusive. We were upgraded to a superior double room and it was beautifully decorated and homely.
Review 16:stayed in annex on the ground level which window was single and without wooden shutter - if someone talking in the street, it was as if they were in the room. Having said that, the street itself hardly have any car traffic, so no problem for the night sleep
Review 17:The beautiful communal area, good breakfast, street very quiet, good shower
Review 18:This Hotel is located in a remodeled 17th century building - The public rooms are beautiful, with great background music. The Good: We had a superior room - which I rated C+. Location, Location, Location - Couldn't be better Room was clean. Bed comfortable. Staff - Very helpful The Not So Good: Very steep long stairs - No elevator - The staff did haul our luggage. No luggage racks The Tub and Shower worked OK but were hard to use. No Wi-Fi in our room (#25). Spotty in the lobbies. The hotel does offer breakfast which is convenient, and OK, but expensive. We would return on our next trip.
Review 19:Very warm welcome. Pleasant room, very clean. Excellent renovation and arty décor in public areas.Hotel has great location near amphitheatre. Excellent value for money.
Review 20:Be aware if you are driving the recommended multi storey car park is 5 - 10 minutes walk away from the hotel and so not easy if you have heavy luggage, similarly to transfer.
Review 21:Great location in a beautiful old town. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. We stayed 3 nights and used as a base to explore the immediate area inc the Carmargue and Avignon. Very good value hotel and would happily recommend the Hotel de L'Amphitheatre.
Review 22:Loved the ambiance and decor of the hotel. Central location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed sitting in downstairs lounges at night - full of character.
Review 23:Wifi does not work properly in the room. This needs to be improved as said by others.
Review 24:Location is excellent, personnel very friendly, rooms authentique though comfortable. We'd definitely recommend this place!
Review 25:Nothing to dislike.
Review 26:Every thing about this hotel was excellent, every thing we had been hoping for. Staff very helpful and made our stay very enjoyable.
Review 27:Charming, small hotel, with great chatpracyer and well decorated , in my opinion. Staff was very helpful. Great "feeling" . In my next trip I would make this hotel my Anchor hotel and travel to the other cities for day trips
Review 28:Wifi applies to the lobby area only - doesn't work in the rooms. If this hotel was a bit cheaper then I could understand it but when paying £80 a night I don't think decent internet is too much to ask; especially since they claim wifi as a perk on the website. As a traveller on my own with no phone - I needed the internet.
Review 29:Location is superb. 30 seconds from the arena and two minutes from the main square with bars and restaurants.
Review 30:No lift we are a young fit couple so it didn't matter but out bag isstill heavy but wouldn't recommend for elderly or unfit peopleunless th stay on ground level sop request this. Also room could do witha coat of paint to match the bathroom and entrance to room. Butthat's all I could fault for $ paid.
Review 31:Location, friendly helpful staff room was comfortable and large on topfloor, peaceful afternoon nap with window shutter open hearing localchurch bells. Bathroom was excellent and modern new and clean. But roomneeds at last coat of paint but good standard for Europe for cost. Wifiworks well. Hotel is beautiful character filled old building. 17century. Located in historical area so no cars allowed unless you have acode from hotel to get into the walled city the you can unload then moveto parking areas. Easy to find with gps.
Review 32:Would have liked fruit for breakfast but understand it was Continental style.
Review 33:Great location close to local sights, very quiet, good sized room, good website.
Review 34:Huge room with pleasing layout of bathroom facilities, and very quiet. Great care taken with comfort and decor, little bar fridge, good tv, armchairs, cupboards. Lots of public areas with lamps, magazines etc. Enthusiastic owners.
Review 35:We spent a lot of time roaming the narrow streets and enjoying the colour and the food. The safari tour of the Camargue national park was fascinating and educational.
Review 36:We had to carry our luggage a distance since access to the hotel via car is challenging. We walked to the hotel after finding public parking and could see then how to get to the hotel via car--but the road was "blocked" to those without an access code.
Review 37:The room provided convenient access to the Ampitheatre. The room was clean but bath and bedroom were on two different levels.
Review 38:Only thing was breakfast. Good food (it was all delicious) but it was a little pricey (8.5 euros each). We got breakfast elsewhere just to avoid cost.
Review 39:This is the best option for a hotel in Arles in our opinion. If you want to have a local experience but also have a place that speaks English, this is a great choice. Excellent rooms and awesome location (no joke - 2 minute walk to Arles Roman Amphitheater). Also, the staff are very helpful. We actually left a pair of earrings at the hotel. We called from Paris and the hotel found the earrings and mailed them to is in Paris!! How outstanding!! When we return to the south of France, we will be staying here! If you are trying to decide between Arles and another location, I would recommend Arles. We had a car and based in Arles (free parking about 5 minute walk from hotel). The longest drive we had was to Cassis (south of Marseille). Great central spot for the region.
Review 40:Noise insulation is near non-existent, can hear voices from other floors and other rooms and the street. One night I had to fall asleep to the sounds of someone snoring in another room.
Review 41:Hotel is decorated nicely with reminiscent ancient roman style which suits Arles perfectly. Very helpful friendly staff. Great location for walking, but not so good with a car as hotel parking is a little walk off and access through tiny winding street to hotel is tricky, but possible. Close to roman ruins and in heart in historic area, plenty of cafes/restaurant nearby. Superior room were really nice, classic too although quite a bit smaller and no bar fridge in classic.
Review 42:Beds were too soft and a little tired. Our double were two mattresses in one frame and one of us finished up in the valley in the middle.
Review 43:No fuss, low key friendly service. Nice ambience. Well heated on a freezing mistral weekend.
Review 44:The manager is very helpful. Gives you the full information . Rooms are clean. The team who works in the hotel are very nice. Location couldn't be better.
Review 45:The hotel did not have our reservation. Fortunately it was off season and we had no problem getting a room there
Review 46:Great personality befitting its location
Review 47:A little far away from the central station. No lift and wifi is not very stable.
Review 48:The location is very good in the centre for all attractions. The staff is super friendly and helpful with excellent English!
Review 49:Quiet, exquisitely-decorated and furnished, centrally-located hotel with caring personnel and a clear feeling you are back to the 19th century....only with un unlimited and free WiFi
Review 50:Steep stairs, thin walls so you could hear every neighbour`s word and coughing, poor breakfast served to your table, although parking is guaranteed it was almost impossible to find a free parking space end of October so I am questioning how it is during high season, poor internet connection often falling out
Review 51:Beautifully decorated historic building, great location just 100 m to amphitheatre and 200 m to Van Gogh cafe on Place du Forum, electrical heating rare to find in hotels in France, welcoming staff
Review 52:The lounge and public seating area was a bit stark and unwelcoming. Other than that, all was fine. At the end of the season choice of nearby restaurants was severely limited.
Review 53:The hotel could not have been better situated - a couple of hundred yards to the Amphitheatre.Helpful to be able to buy a parking ticket from the hotel to use with a guaranteed space in the public parking garage throughout the stay.
Review 54:Parking a bit of a problem but it is everywhere in Arles.
Review 55:The hotel has lots of character and impressive reception rooms. It's very close to all the sites. The staff were helpful and informative. Breakfast was good.
Review 56:Fabulous location...so close to ruins and good restaurants. Lovely linens on great beds...nicely sized rooms. Convenient computers to catch up on email and good value breakfast. Try it, you'll be very happy!
Review 57:On hotel site should make it clear best to park in Centre Ville Parking (concession rate via hotel) and not try to park in town.
Review 58:the decor and feel of the place. Great breakfast with lovely music in background. Ideally located for pedestrian access to monuments etc. Roomy accommodation and bathroom etc.
Review 59:Our shower didn't have a shower curtain.
Review 60:The staff was very helpful, the location was close to the attractions. The room was unique and we totally enjoyed our stay there. We would go back at this hotel again.
Review 61:Flattered to deceive. The front of house and public areas decorated to a very high standard but the bedroom was not to the same standard and reeked of damp carpets. Breakfast dreadful, there is no point in offering 3 types of hot chocolate if you cannot get the milk above tepid and the orange juice was watered down! Car parking could also be a bit of a problem.
Review 62:Location and the receptionist was helpful. Historic features of the hotel in general.
Review 63:Very small shower and no elevator. No parking on-site.
Review 64:Beautiful building in the old part of Arles - oozing character and old world charm. The breakfasts were fantastic and everything was within walking distance.
Review 65:We had a particularly uncomfortable bed which was a shame.
Review 66:Location superb once there. Very narrow streets! Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Review 67:No microwave, kettle or tea/coffee sachets you normally get in a hotel room. The art in the room was photos of pinball machines which we thought looked weird & tacky compared with the rest of the decor
Review 68:Large & comfortable room Clean nice bathroom
Review 69:Breakfast had no fruit or cereal but that is common in France.
Review 70:Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Quiet street. Near everything: historic sites, restaurants, bus station, tourist information. Lovely spacious airy room with high ceilings. Terrific long bath tub to soak in at the end of the day! Staff helped with bags as there is no lift.
Review 71:My particular room was small and in need of renovation. Very cramped. The hotel has more than one wing and different types of accommodation. I was assigned to the old section.
Review 72:Very attentive, friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfasts served with a smile. The common areas are quite attractive. Quirky, distinctive design and furnishings.
Review 73:Parking can get stressful, especially if you don't have GPS and handy parking options.
Review 74:Another pretty town and another pretty hotel. The corridor can look pretty as hell, from outside. It’s again one of those places with ample to read and consume inside. It has plenty of help for the city, which is all a walk-away from the hotel. Centrally located, almost too centrally where a non-European might find it slightly difficult to navigate through the streets, thinking doubly and superfluously about the legitimacy of a certain path, which in many instances would be exclusively earmarked for pedestrians. It is close to all the places that Vogh was close to. To the Rhone, to the other side, to the yellow house, the café, the hospital, to the public parks & spaces etc. Having told the hotel in advance, they gave us a ticket for the public parking for 12 euros, which was not bad, given it’s a small pedestrianized city and a decent place to park is a luxury.
Review 75:The historic feel of the building and the beautiful decor together with the fantastic location mean that this hotel is on my 'return to' list. Right in the heart of historic Arles within throwing distance from the wonderful Roman Arena.
Review 76:The excellent service by the reception staff, the ambience of the hotel, in tune with its historical surroundings, the proximity to the Roman amphitheatre and the parking building.
Review 77:nothing
Review 78:The room was a very large size. it had everything we needed and more. It felt more like a luxury hotel. location was excellent near the arena, awesome value for money.
Review 79:Nothing.
Review 80:Staying at the Amphitheatre was a total pleasure,we had a great time!! Our room was very comfortable and spacious. Having a small frig was an added advantage in the hot weather. Our host allowed us to use the delightful courtyard for our evening drinks.
Review 81:The bed of the superior double was had to twin mattresses, and it was in the building across the street, third and top floor, no elevator.
Review 82:Definitely stop by in Arles, there's a lot to see.
Review 83:Difficult to get to by car -the streets are VERY narrow. We ended up parking the car and waling in, which worked well, but it could have been advised on site and/ or when we called to get a late check-in.
Review 84:Location, desig of rooms and hotel.
Review 85:Third floor and no stairs, not even a bellman to carry luggage. Also, room was split level so I had to go downstairs for the bathroom.
Review 86:Great location, nice and helpful staff. Room was nice.
Review 87:The hotel has 2 sites...across the little street from each other....so our two rooms were separated. But that was a small price to pay for such a lovely hotel.
Review 88:The location, just steps from the arena and main sights, was perfect. It's on a quiet street and is a great value. Rooms are attractive and the hotel has lots of character plus cleanliness. The staff was very helpful in printing maps to use during the train strike. Loved it!!!
Review 89:It is incredibly central, easy to find and bicycle friendly!
Review 90:all good
Review 91:location location

Review 106:Lovely hotel. Great location. Nice breakfast.
Review 107:Beaux espaces de réception, chambre spacieuse, beaucoup de charme et des prix attractifs.
Review 108:Poor wifi in rooms, ok in lobby
Review 109:Historic building
Review 110:Classy stylish hotel with immaculate attention to detail.
Review 111:Many stairs with lots of bags is always a struggle
Review 112:A reasonable hotel well located with attentive staff
Review 113:Perfect location for the ancient city
Review 114:View,location,sun in room.
Review 115:Parking
Review 116:Great service and style of accommodations
Review 117:One night stay didn't allow for a problem to surface. Faultless.
Review 118:Very helpful reception - warm and inviting to make our short stay memorable.
