Reviews for Les Chambres d'Ovaline
Review 1:This hotel/B&B was just at the entrance to the village and walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the bakery. The staff was very helpful and even came to find us at night when we lost our way! Thank you!
Review 2:We stayed for 3 nights, and each morning breakfast was delightful but different to the previous day. The position was great and the staff extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. We got to know several nearby shopkeepers as everyone was so friendly.
Review 3:the price is at hotel level, but the comfort and service level is not up to it. Heating is a small electric radiator, plumbing has several (large) leaks that could not be fixed, insufficient hot water, so prepare for a cold shower, breakfast is extra and rather limited, no hot options, owner is not availalable and staff only a few hours/day.
Review 4:Close to the village center, though for elderly, there is a steep climb over a slippery street. Large room.
Review 5:This is different to hotel chain so no facility. But the room itself is great!
Review 6:Decoration is nice and service is great. Large room and super clean. I loved the bathroom a lot!
Review 7:Found it a bit hard to find.
Review 8:Everything about it is lovely. We had a very friendly welcome and we're given lots of information about getting the best from St Emilion during our short stay. Our room was delightful, full of character. We decided to have breakfast and the quality of food was second to none.
Review 9:Just a lovely quaint little BB in a perfect location. We had the garden bungalow very small but perfect for one night and had everything you required.
Review 10:Once in a while you run into a a place which is way above expectations - and this was one of them. You are "at home" as soon as you enter the small garden behind the gate. We were lucky to have the "suite" which included a small kitchen, but I had a look into the two other rooms in the same building and they were very large and nice as well. The view was fantastic overlooking the vineyards. We had only one night here but I could easily have stayed in the room for a week, or moved in permanently. Very high standard on room and bathroom. Clean and very comfortable. If you plan a trip to St. Emillion book early and stay in this place. Ideally situated just by the entrance of the old town.
Review 11:Sign of the hotel is small and a bit hidden. We only found the place by consulting with a local. The check-in times are not convenient. We tried to call the two numbers that were provided on a note, but could not reach anyone for 45 minutes.
Review 12:The room was very spacey and the interior was fabulously decorated. The staff was incredibly friendly and supportive.
Review 13:Disconcerting to watch owner and cleaner minutely inspecting every aspect of the bed, whilst we were still in the room.
Review 14:Excellent breakfast. Clean good quality furnishings and great enthusiastic young lady at breakfast.
Review 15:Nadia and Natasha looked after is so well! It was our honeymoon, we were exhausted and they went above and beyond to make sure we experienced the best St Emillion had to offer. Just perfect. Hopefully we will be back!
Review 16:Great locale and lovely spacious room. Had trouble finding it as we came from North and gps couldn't cope. Come in to town from Sth near the train station and it will be easy.
Review 17:Too much fragrance used in the rooms. We removed 2 very strong air fresheners from our room.
Review 18:Noelle and the other hotel staff are so incredibly welcoming and sweet. They made our stay that much more enjoyable by offering us suggestions for exploring St Emilion over our morning coffee and regional specialties like canele and Basque gateau! The room was very spacious with an enormous newly renovated bathroom. The super comfy big bathtub was a plus. Excelling location at south part of Old Town (wonderful bakery right across the street).
Review 19:the room was directly on to the courtyard , and a little small but for one night at the price it was great
Review 20:welcome was brilliant general ambiance lovely very efficient room spotless bed very comfortable
Review 21:Spacious room with kitchen area and very large bathroom. Well situated with public parking nearby and in easy walking distance of all St. Emilion has to offer. Less expensive than many places to stay nearby.
Review 22:Not applicable
Review 23:Natasha was an exuberant but delightful personality. She was interested in U.S. And took care in looking after us.breakfast wS the best ever!.
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:Everything. Lovely place just at the beginning of the town . We had the suite which is huge and very nicely decorated. The manage , Natasha, always smiling and eager to help . Breakfast perfect at the terrace . Absolutely perfect
Review 26:Everything was perfect. Location with parking right in front of the hotel is a plus, specially in St-Emilion Dedication of the staff is amazing Large room for the suite Highly recommend
Review 27:No one is on the property so check-in is at 4:30 - can't even leave baggage as there is no one there. We left 2 days later after the posted check-out time of 8:00 or 8:30 (2 different postings) but no one was there to check us out. I assumed my credit card information from booking with booking.com was sufficient but apparently the number was wrong or something. I left my email address incase there was a problem and I get a message from the booking agency and the hotel that I left without paying. I felt like a criminal. I contacted both the booking agency and the hotel and made the payment with the hotel and never heard from anyone again - I expected an apology. I have to check now to make sure I didn't pay twice. Also there were charges for everything including ice. The air conditioning was not in the room and the really good fan was connected to the overhead lights so you couldn't keep it running when you slept. The spa tub was nice and big but no jets. Car parking is a public lot in front of the hotel which is full until the evening so it is necessary to park quite far away until about 7:00pm when the lot opens up a bit. Not as advertised and unprofessional.
Review 28:The room was large and well decorated.
Review 29:Had to wait until 4:30 to drop out bags and no one was there at 1 to allow us to drop them. Otherwise great stay and service. Perfect location. Just arrange ahead of time if you have bags to drop.
Review 30:We were staying in the little room off the terrace and were woken suddenly at about midnight by a group (possibly friends of the host?) who sat down on the terrace to drink and chat. They moved inside immediately after waking us and we had a peaceful sleep thereafter.
Review 31:Beautiful rooms, lovely host, right in the centre of St Emilion. Yummy breakfast (this is extra). Would recommend :)
Review 32:Management was only around for breakfast then disappeared. WiFi was a joke, sometimes you could connect most times not. If you needed something you had to use your phone to call the management, if you had a phone. Room fan only worked if the overhead light was on so you couldn't run it at night.
Review 33:Good location
Review 34:Wifi didn't work very well in the room at all.
Review 35:The room was very comfortable and spacious, as was the bathroom. Great location. Natasha and Noelle were fantastic. A great base for exploring. The room and hotel is lovingly, if a little confusingly, decorated (it seems to be a football or rugby theme, but the art is actually quite lovely and the room is full of character. It's tasteful and interesting even for someone not at all interested in sport).
Review 36:Wonderful accommodation, centrally located right at the start of the village. The owner Natasha was so welcoming and helpful and the accomodation was superb.
Review 37:The booking.com information specified air-conditioning and spa. There was a noisy fan (which could not be turned on without the lights) and a large bath. We did not mind about the spa, but the upstairs suite is an attic that became very uncomfortable over three hot days. The proprietor, Natasha was present on our arrival but never reappeared, despite our expressing our discomfort to the staff. The room would have been fine in cool weather, but should be avoided in summer. We were very annoyed that air-conditioning was advertised but did not exist.
Review 38:Early check in and a fabulous breakfast in our huge room. After reading some of the negative reviews, we were worried. No need to be. Natasha and staff were excellent hosts.
Review 39:Our room was stunning. Very modern and clean with great facilities. Best breakfast we had in France. Location was ideal and the owner couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 40:Public transport connections to Bordeaux were unreliable. We suggest you need a car to get around.
Review 41:The helpfulness and friendliness of stuff. Rooms were beautifully furnished and decorated. Bathroom was amazing!
Review 42:We loved everything, the owner was so helpful with her advice, the accommodation was delightful and so convenient with free overnight parking at the door. St Emilion is also a lovely town!
Review 43:A very comfortable room with loads of space. Rather quirky decoration turned out to reflect the obsession of our charming hostess and her family with rugby. Which was perfect for us as we're there on a Rugby trip! Easy walk into the town, but you can park right outside. A delightful stay!
Review 44:parking
Review 45:Location, the room, the bathroom, the room, the location and the bathroom...nice place, will recommend it to friends and hopefully will return someday!
Review 46:As this is facing the terrace anyone sitting out there can see directly into the room.
Review 47:Very beautiful and fresh terrace facing room, very clean and homy atmosphere. Approachable, friendly staff all round great place to stay.
Review 48:Location is perfect, in the old town and close to wonderful restaurants Owner/manager is an incredibly beautiful friendly and helpful person Room was spacious and immaculate
Review 49:Hmm, we liked everything about this place.
Review 50:Convenient location, Luxurious room with many little extras, large bathroom with two sinks and lots of towels. Breakfast @ 10 euros an excellent value. TV with three English channels. Natasha went out of her way to make our stay pleasant, and drove us to our bus stop when we left.
Review 51:Parking is not ideal although car parks are close they are 2 euro/hour. We solved it by parking free of charge in the road car parks approaching St Emilion.
Review 52:We stayed in room 3 right at the top. The room has to be seen , just so stylish, very large, superb bathroom and the most comfortable bed we have slept in for a long time. The view over the vineyards was superb.Natasha the owner was so helpful.
Review 53:No one avail for help with making bookings for tours or Restaurants etc.. Rang ph number supplied but no answer.
Review 54:Lovely room with a beautiful bathroom..
Review 55:Nothing comes to mind
Review 56:Cosy place, very welcoming owner and comfortable room. Pretty courtyard downstairs where breakfast is served. Perfect location to explore St Emilion - I would strongly recommend this place.
Review 57:Unfortunately a very, very uncomfortable curved bed in the bungalow. Cute terrace, though public, so early birds can have breakfast about two yards from your bedroom window. Paying for parking, which adds a lot to the bill. Plus, you can only pay for parking 3 hours at a time, so plan your day carefully.
Review 58:Location right at the entrance of the town, close to restaurants and shops. Next to parking, though paid.
Review 59:Would have been great to have tea / coffee making facilities in the room.
Review 60:Lovely welcoming hosts, despite us being very late due to train delays. Very generous room in converted barn was nicely furnished, with quiet decked area overlooking countryside. Beautifully laid out breakfast in main house.
Review 61:I banged my head a couple of times on the low beams in the top room, the rest of the rooms didn't have the same problem.
Review 62:Excellent bathroom fascilities ( a touch of luxury. The room was large and airy. A fantastic view of the vinyards. Breakfast on the courtyard, a beautiful setting. The owner and staff were attentive and thoughtful.
Review 63:Finding a parking place nearby can be difficult. Steep stairs up to bedroom didn't give us a problem but would not be suitable for someone with restricted mobility.
Review 64:Well situated just outside les remparts. Large room and bathroom. Individual rugby-themed decor which extended to the height of the wardrobe - only accessible by rugby players practising line-out skills. Individuality included breakfast with home-made local specialities.
Review 65:The room had no airconditioning, only a fan which made it a bit uncomfortable as it was very hot outside.
Review 66:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, modern and in a great location.
Review 67:I didn't like the fact that you couldn't check in till 1630. There should be someone to contact all day on a reception in a hotel or guesthouse in my opinion. I had to leave my suitcase in the garden/terrace for three hours otherwise I'd have had to haul it around town all afternoon. There was nowhere locked or private to leave it. I found this disappointing and frustrating and not a sign of putting the customer first. A shame considering how lovely every other aspect was.
Review 68:Perfect location - at lower end of town opposite restaurants and boulangerie. Stunning views from bedroom window. Spacious room full of French character
Review 69:The shower leaked quite badly and nobody was around to speak to about it as reception had closed!
Review 70:Location was perfect, just at the bottom of town within walking distance of everything. We got the small (but nicely done) room by the courtyard but the other rooms look lovely on the photos.
Review 71:Apart from first night did not have any contact with owner and there wasno one available when we left.
Review 72:Very nice Room, good bathroom and comfortable bed.
Review 73:Their advert in the Tourist Office's list of recommendations - because it lacks a picture of the accommodation. This left us a little unsure initially about the quality of the accommodation which caused us to enquire with other hotels who showed pictures before we enquired at Ovaline. We think Ovaline may be losing business as this may also be causing other people to try elsewhere first. This would be a mistake as Ovaline is great and we are looking forward to visiting again.
Review 74:huge room, walking distance to everything yet still quiet and extremely convenient for parking, good choice at breakfast, warm welcome, character decor, comfortable bed
Review 75:We arrived at 5.30 so were not affected but a sign indicated that check-in does not begin until 16.30, and finishes at 19.30. There is no telephone in the room and no reception area. No-one on site from early evening and no way to contact anyone if there is a problem in the room. Apparently one young woman has to do everything - check-in, check-out, cleaning.... 2 lights were not working, one in the bathroom and one bedside light. Parking is free before 9.00 and after 19.30, not 18.30, as stated. Be aware that charges are 2 euros per hour and make sure you park outside the bakery opposite and not outside the hotel as there is apparently a market in the car-park in the morning (not sure if it's every day?) and you get blocked in.
Review 76:I would happily recommend this hotel if it were not for the issues of no telephone, no hotel contact number and the lack of reception staff, which, in a hotel of this standing, I find incomprehensible. Nice big room, nice bathroom, good location. Very clean.
Review 77:Having to pay for parking near the locale. Free parking is reasonably far away involving bus to locale.
Review 78:Charming room, fabulous location, lovely breakfast.
Review 79:I would have liked to be accommodated better as I was a departing guest. At least some breakfast would have been nice since I paid for it. Also, the checkin process was horrible. The communication on the staffs part was awful.
Review 80:Adorable bed and breakfast and at such a good price for that area
Review 81:Spacious room with artistic decoration as well as bathroom.
Review 82:Good location and friendly welcome and staff.
Review 83:Exceptionally friendly and helpful personnel
Review 84:A beautiful imposing property nestled in vineyards fairly close to the medieval city. Hosts were lovely and the place was thoroughly comfortable.
Review 85:The owner of the property (Natasha?) was very welcoming and helpful.
Review 86:Great Location for visiting the sights of Saint Emilion.
Review 87:Breakfast, staff, tranquility
Review 88:For one person it was fine - for two maybe a bit too small!
Review 89:Characterful room - and very nice bathroom. Really good breakfast.
Review 90:the bed was not the most comfortable, especially given the price of the room
Review 91:super decoration, super clean and excellent location
Review 92:Position, overall welcome, small but excellently appointed, cosy and comfortable.

Review 108:Location and vibe
Review 109:Close to everything but very quiet. Wonderful hostess.
Review 110:Easy to find, value for money, good bathroom.

Review 112:almost everything
