Reviews for Mas de la Chapelle
Review 1:Seemed to need maintenance. WiFi was intermittant. Shower head was broken. TV had only french stations. Nothing to do there in the evenings - not within walking distance of anything, especially eateries.
Review 2:Ambiance was awesome. History and charm great.
Review 3:In the fall, the vegetation is a bit overgrown, but fits in with the French approach that we tend to expect and enjoy.
Review 4:The cozy and quiet surroundings, guests, and staff. It is a very relaxing location and facility.
Review 5:Hotel in need of rennovation. Was not very clean. There were wet dogs running around inside the hotel (presumably the owners). Found a bug in room...but the hotel had kindly left bug spray in the closet for us.....
Review 6:Interesting history and decoration. Isolated location. Good security.
Review 7:Some people may find the distance from Arles inconvenient but as it was so crowded we were quite happy to drive the 2 km outside
Review 8:The Mas was in a rural park-like setting. The hotel had a fascinating history dating back to the 16th century. The interior of the main rooms including the chapel were decorated with astounding collections of antiques. The grounds contained sculptures, ponds, tennis court, variety of ponds with water features an d swimming pool.
Review 9:Hotel a little out of Arles can be done by public transport but needs a bit of a walk .
Review 10:Staff were lovely obliging and helpful, room very nicely positioned and spacious Mosquito's not so pleasant take stuff !! Hotel didn't do evening meal which initially caught us unaware but it wasn't a huge issue. Grounds and swimming pool beautiful
Review 11:It wasn't quite a 4-star hotel. It looked like the garden could use some upkeep and the rooms a bit of a refurbishment. Also, the rooms were far too cluttered with furniture / decoration.
Review 12:Charming place in a very quiet area with lots of land and a swimming pool. Lovely and helpful staff.
Review 13:There are many bees and wasp nests near the pool. Several guests got bitten. The breakfast is meager and not of the best quality. The coffee is weak and runs out. The bushes and trees need trimming. It seems there is no upkeep on the property.
Review 14:A strange and quiet place where one can swim. The rooms are air conditioned. The staff is helpful. There is free wifi. The hotel is in the countryside so it feels a world apart. The chamber maid is very nice and she has a lovely little girl who swims in the pool and politely chats with guests.
Review 15:Spooky place ,expensive breakfast for what you get , gardens were beautiful at one time but the whole place has been left to go in to disrepair .its not a 4star place ,and very over priced for what is there
Review 16:Quirky place lovely gardens
Review 17:It was E444 a night and they still charged E17 pp for breakfast. The bathroom had three broken tiles on the floor and was not great for the price
Review 18:Our room was fabulously large and decorated extravagantly with pictures. Good air conditioning and a fridge for putting your own food in.
Review 19:-Too noisy when the trains regularly passing by (close to railway) -No restaurant on site for a dinner so you have to go to Arles which is 15 min away - We found a lot of big black ants in the room and reported it to the staff at the day of check-in. The problem seemed to be known but no action taken
Review 20:Very nice setting, remote place Good pool with nice environment The hotel with tastefull desugn
Review 21:It's hard to find the hotel.
Review 22:The hotel is very very beautiful. It's more beautiful than the pictures.Everything is fantastic except the location. It's really hard to find it even if you use.
Review 23:Very dusty. Hard beds. Dogs and cats ran around property. Dirty towels were folded and put back for our use as if they were clean. Shower was clogged and the bathroom folded.
Review 24:The pool was fantastic!!!!!! The gardens were lovely and exotic.
Review 25:No hook for the shower head to hang on. No self service tea or coffee drinking facilities nor a kettle as stated in your summary of the hotel. It's effectively a B&B. Though a limited range drinks could be ordered from reception till 7:30pm.
Review 26:The delightful garden with lots of space for seclusion and plenty of quirky places to sit. Amazing decoration stuffed full of antiques and French bric a brac. The hotel staff made it clear we were welcome to bring in any drinks and food we liked and the dining room was open till 9pm to get cutlery and crockery.
Review 27:The airconditioning unit was totally unacceptable as it would only run for 1/2 hour. In this heat you need airconditioning. My family and I are covered in mosquitoe bites as we had to leave the windows wide open - not happy!
Review 28:The lovely gardens and stylish. bedroom. Breakfast was very good.
Review 29:Not enough time----We even stayed an extra day----fantastic experiance.
Review 30:This was a view into a special world where the immediate furnishings fitted perfectly the property and its surroundings.Eccenteric---yes Unique ---certainly and loved the whole ambiance!!!
Review 31:The gardens need a lot of work as they are overgrown - careful pruning and clearing out some of the mess would work wonders; it makes the place a bit dark and damp but it does have great potential. The train racing past at night can wake a light sleeper up but there is nothing you can do about it.
Review 32:The setting for Mas de la Chapelle is brilliant with lovely gardens, pool and an eclectic mix of buildings, artefacts, knicknacks etc. The Chapel is an Aladdin's cave of curios and quite fascinating. Each room is different and follows a theme. A great setting for a movie or a mystery novel.
Review 33:the bathroom need renovatin . the shower in the bath tube can not be hanged on the wall , so you must hold it in the hand . it is very inconvenient. breakfast is not what you expect from a 4 star hotel. the hotel is 10 minutes drive from the city center.
Review 34:the garden of the hotel is very beautiful but need more treatment.
Review 35:The pillows were not good and needed replacing. The accommodation needs a big refurbishment to include a walk in shower with modern fittings rather than a bath with hand held spray.
Review 36:The gardens are large and well planted but needed a lot of maintenance done , weeding and grass cutting for example. We had tea making facilities and a fridge which was good, the old Chapel is a very nice period feature.
Review 37:I loved this charming place. Great interior design and comfort. The bed was great and the room very big. The owner is very professional and welcoming. If you want to use the spa, it is better to let them know in advance, so they turn it on. Definitely recommended.
Review 38:The bathroom had some problems with the wc.
Review 39:The place is quiet. Silent and relaxing. It´s one of those places you know will remain in your private history all your life. A 1610 priory in La Provence? yes. A baroque chapel as a lounge with a piano? yes. Breakfast in a Provence style? yes.
Review 40:Too cold in the room, specially in the bathroom. If one place is not prepared to receive guest during winter it shouldn't be open. There's a paper factory near by, The smell is unpleasant.
Review 41:The house and gardênia are beautiful.
Review 42:- Railway is passing very close to the Mas. There is some significant from trains passing by - Not easy to find but with GPS and patiency you will find it (you need car!)
Review 43:- Large rooms - In summar I am sure the guests can enjoy the surroundings with the pool and the garden
Review 44:The bathroom floor was sagging. Issues with old buildings! Grounds need some TLC.
Review 45:Beautiful luxurious room in the main house. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Very considerate staff. Beautiful grounds.
Review 46:Annexe room too cramped with fridge in the bathroom!! Staff not there when you need them. Breakfast at 16 euros each is a rip-off (so we 'made do' in our room). In our view not worth the money.
Review 47:Wonderful grounds (though needing much looking after), attractive swimming pool area.
Review 48:One needs to use Insect Repellent when in the garden as there is are a lot of pools in which Mosquitoes proliferate. One of us suffered very badly with bites. The garden does need some attention but in the end we decided that it all adds to the character.
Review 49:Our room was huge, very comfortable and decorated with the most amazing antiques. Everything was very clean in the room. There is a huge garden with lots of seating. There is a beautiful swimming pool which was still operational in October. The house is very beautiful with an interesting history. It is very close to Arles and the Camargue.
Review 50:Nothing
Review 51:This small hotel is hidden away on the outskirts of Arles. To reach it you have to drive through an Industrial Estate of Car Dealerships. Persevere because when you get there, you will find a gem of a hotel. Great rooms, a glorious garden and a magnificent swimming-pool. We have stayed there, both in 2013 and 2014, and cannot recommend it too highly.
Review 52:Difficult to find, to signs to help on the road, no possibilities for dinner around.
Review 53:Very nice if you take a room in the old house or in the garden. The cheapest rooms are having bad quality walls and too much plastic... Nice garden, nice pool, nice atmosphere.
Review 54:No evening meal - if you can do a fab buffet breakfast, do something similar in the evening. Or sell local produce as there are fridges in our rooms so we don't all need cars..............
Review 55:The location, the style, the staff and the breakfast!
Review 56:Near a railway, you can hear the train in the middle of nowhere to expensive due to a lot of water in the garden a lot of moskitos the garden should be maintained better, it's all a bit old
Review 57:Wonderful garden nice stuff possibility to bring your own food and drinks and they give you the dishes nice room
Review 58:Decor was dated Bed was not comfortable Bed linen was old & worn, and a bit dirty in places TV did not work
Review 59:Pool & gardens Staff we're friendly Food was fresh Tranquility
Review 60:The noise from the railroad close to the hotel, the dogs running around begging for food and backing at night. Our room was next to the packing area so a lot of noise during the evening/night
Review 61:Was very hard to find. Our navigation could not locate. After 2 hours we found a cab that would lead us there.
Review 62:Beautiful room, and garden. Food was good.
Review 63:Didn't want to leave.
Review 64:our room was beautifully decorated, the grounds and gardens, the statues all over the property, the chapel, the breakfast. We wished we could have stayed longer.
Review 65:the breakfast is too simple compare with 4 stars hotel and 17 Euro.
Review 66:it is a beautiful place with beautiful room and garden.if you have GPS,it's easy to get there.
Review 67:We arrived at 9:30pm, there were no one around, an old lady opened the gate and showed us our room. Then told us because we were so late, she couldn't give us anything because all the staff had gone. So we end up no drinking water in the room and there was no Kettle as well. Gosh, I was so thirsty that night!
Review 68:Beautiful location.
Review 69:Our visit was too late in the year to fully appreciate the facilities
Review 70:Amazingly decorated, full of curiosities, a wonderful old chapel...
Review 71:Breakfast food to be replenished when empty
Review 72:Nice territoty, historical place
Review 73:Railway line is very near
Review 74:Excellent environs. Lovely secluded rest areas and pool.
Review 75:breakfast expensive
Review 76:the beautiful garden, and the outdoor in general so quite and peaceful the "chapelle" with all ornaments, the style
Review 77:The entourage of the hotel
Review 78:The pool is wonderful. We enjoyed our Glass of wine in the evenings near the pond. Holiday!
Review 79:Wifi connection was rubbish
Review 80:Remote location with limited transportation
Review 81:Beautiful and peaceful estate grounds
Review 82:No service un the evening
Review 83:The garden
Review 84:Lack of tea and coffee making in room
Review 85:Location was interesting.
Review 86:Despite our short stay we had a fanstastic time. Warmly recommended!
Review 87:Staff gave us excellent advice on visiting Arles. The place is beautiful (you'll need a car)
Review 88:Nice court yard with Provence style, hidden pearl.
Review 89:evrything. location, the stuff, the atmosphere and serenity of a place that is associated with art legend
Review 90:Prison near by.
Review 91:Extremely welcoming and very helpful staff, exceptionally peaceful and clean. The house, gardens, decor and pool were amazing.
Review 92:There was a terrible smell because of the paper factory in the neighbourhood...
Review 93:Old style Good atmosphere
Review 94:Only downside is having to drive to eat out of an evening although Arles is a wonderful place to explore for food. Had a picnic a couple of nights but make sure you are prepared for mosquitoes.
Review 95:This is a wonderful, peaceful place-more a retreat than a B&B! Beautiful gardens-not overly manicured and the pool was very welcome in the heat of the afternoon. The room was very comfortable with its own terrace to sit out on.
Review 96:On our arrival we felt the introduction to the establishment was rushed as if he was bored. Additional charge for use of swimming pool we felt was excessive.
Review 97:Peace and quiet.
Review 98:After removing over powering scented oil dispenser the room smelled of damp and mould, which was plainly visible in the bathroom. Bare wires visible on electric ceiling light.
Review 99:Easier to get into than the high security prison located just down the road. The air conditioning was effective.
Review 100:The breakfast was a little overpriced.
Review 101:This hotel has oodles of charm. I loved the grounds, the rooms are spacious and thoughtfully decorated - overall, quite different from your usual hotel.
Review 102:Poor breakfast. Owners should pay more attention to room renovation.
Review 103:Hotel is located in country side and is very quiet. Nice and green park around hotel.
Review 104:Bathrooms and dining room could do with a make over for the money. In room was a kettle, one mug , no coffee or milk and only one tea bag. Not good enough for a 4star
Review 105:Beautiful old house with endless painting and ornaments to look at. like a living museum. If l win the lottery l would hire the whole hotel for Christmas. If you like modern don't go here !
Review 106:Very shabby indeed and overpriced. The gardens must have been lovely at some stage but need to be maintained . As they are overgrown and unkept it gives the whole place a really run down feel.
Review 107:The hotel is far from the town center. There is no service whatsoever,no help, no information. We arrived at 8:15 pm and there was no one atthe reception, it was hard to figure out how to find the keys for ourroom and the room. We were informed we had to change our room on thesecond night, as we were “accommodated” in a 2 people room for the firstnight until the 3 people room was available on the second night. Theowner/administrator woke up on the first morning on his pajamas with2 big dogs while we were having breakfast, his attitude was not nice. The furniture in the common areas looks old and the gardens needmaintenance. From our perspective this may had been a good place but haslost its charm.
Review 108:Nice swimming pool, the rooms were very clean nicely decorated and thebathroom spacious.
Review 109:Mosquitoes, too many: today there are technologies to fix it. Breakfast went short of selection with a slow refilling.
Review 110:Beautiful layout, lovely atmosphere.
Review 111:The reception closes at 8 pm and you won't find anyone for check in or other questions after that time. The reception personnel is not very attentive, e.g. they took my passport and forgot it in the scanner machine... No menu in the room for room service orders. Speed trains running really close to the hotel.
Review 112:An awesome place for a romantic gateway! Located in a picturesque place close to Arles. Exquisite interior with a lot of antique. Comfortable rooms, big pool, prosperous guests.
Review 113:It is only a small quibble, but the swimming pool requests quiet behaviour, and there were sometimes VERY noisy groups of children in it, forcing a re-think about sitting by the pool
Review 114:The grounds were particularly fine - the lush vegetation, and the unexpected clearings with statuary and water features were a delight
Review 115:Amazing ambiance. Laurent is incredibly helpful, friendly and professional. Museum furnishings and antiques ... Gorgeous pool and grounds. Peaceful and quiet setting 10 minute drive from Arles center.
Review 116:Rather small rooms, particularly bathroom. Poor sound insulation betweenadjoining room. Breakfast too expensive (16 euros).
Review 117:An unusual converted chapel & farm buildings in an isolated area afew miles from the lovely town of Arles. Beautiful gardens & pool.Interesting colourful décor & furnishings.
Review 118:It still has that slightly "musty" smell as though all the doors and windows need opening and it does have a beautiful garden which needs some TLC.
Review 119:This is the second time we have stayed at Mas De La Chapelle and we began to understand its history and why it is so unique with the Chapel making it so.
Review 120:Near the house is a power station, high security prison and a railway line almost over the back fence. None of these are mentioned in the online ads, of course. Also the house needed "airing" as several people commented on the "rising damp" and the musty smell. Perhaps after winter they need to open the place up more. Also the garden was very over grown and unkempt. It could be beautiful. It is also a little too far out of town.
Review 121:It is a beautiful old traditional Provencale farm house in the countryside about 15 minutes from Arles. The main rooms sit around a swimming pool which looks lovely and the house is fascinating with an eclectic mix of curios and antiques with some fascinating rooms.
Review 122:We went in low season and during weekends we were the only guests staying at the hotel, so breakfast was served to our room. It was very different from the the weekend meal. Just tea, yogurt, jam and croissants. We'd really appreciate some cheese, ham and cereals.
Review 123:Amazingly well designed and cozy place set in a beautiful old park in a quiet and green countryside. Great rooms. Friendly staff, 2 dogs and a cat. Convenient location - just a 5 min ride to Arles and about 20 mins the the Camarague nature park (the one with flamingoes!). The seaside (we went to St Maries De La Mer) is about 1hr drive away.
Review 124:Did not feel like hotel more like b&B. Communal areas locked at 20h00 nodrinks available to buy. Can not read in front of fire. Though cold nofires made in communal area. Felt like tresspassing in someones home notlike a 4 star hotel. Kettle in room no coffee. We chose hotel for spa asjust returned from skiing. Spa closed. We could not even use sauna. Youhave your room and garden that's it. Though beautiful and staff friendlyenough it is stiff and lacks hospitality of a hotel that will welcomeyou as a guest.Gardens very badly maintained. .
Review 125:Beautiful rooms and beautiful sitting area in chapel. Would have beenthe ideal hotel if the same character flowed into welcoming guests andmaking communal areas friendly and welcoming to guests by serving drinksand ligthing fires.
Review 126:The direction signs were a bit hard to see
Review 127:We loved everything about the place - friendly staff and a gorgeous room - what a beautiful place to stay
Review 128:Very small safety box Roads to get to the hotel
Review 129:Quietness The beauty of the buildings Feeling at home
Review 130:Lovely peaceful place just 5 minutes from Arles
Review 131:no restaurant, bar, no tea or coffee facilities,
Review 132:lovely gardens, neat room design
Review 133:The chapel
Review 134:Took us a while to find.
Review 135:The room and grounds, friendly staff.
Review 136:Very difficult to find
Review 137:The comfort, the different atmosphere from a regular hotel
