Reviews for Château Franc Grâce-Dieu

Review 1:Beautiful setting amongst the vineyards. Rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. It was a short drive to the town with free car parking. The breakfast was well served and staff very helpful.

Review 2:Absolutely fantastic place to say! 20 minute walk from St Emillion albeit along a very busy road but location perfect for us. Frederic is an absolute legend.

Review 3:If you didn't have a car , it was a nightmare. We went to St Emillion station with our cases. Got lost. Nice lady helped us. Got to hotel to find . No dinner served there. We had no car, so had a few snacks for dinner and went to bed. Back to Bordeoux next morning as early as we could..

Review 4:It was nice. Breakfast was nice. Rooms spacious. Pretty view ..

Review 5:We loved the location, the peacefulness, walking into St. Emilion amongst the vines and the amazing night skies. The staff were helpful and friendly and the accommodation spotless and serviced to a high standard daily.

Review 6:Location (for those on foot), no food facilities on site. It was 20euros to St Emilion (5min drive) - spending 40 euros a day or 2 30minute walks on rough ground was not ideal. There are no kitchen facilities so we had to eat out for every meal (unless you planned breakfast with the staff the day before). It was made even worse when you could smell cooking from the staff's adjoining house...

Review 7:This is a gorgeous place to stay... If you have a car! The staff were lovely, a great wine overview and pretty vineyard setting. Decorated to a high spec, very clean, it would be ideal for an older couple, again with a car.

Review 8:This place is right on the vineyard so there are amazing views, extremely clean, the decoration is perfect, the bed is excellent and the service by Isabella (host) was outstanding, five stars, 2 thumbs up, best service than anywhere we've ever stayed at (and we are frequent travelers)!

Review 9:Everything! If there was a higher rating than excellent I would give it. The bed was so comfortable, the decor, the breakfast with home made cake and home made yoghurt, the friendly people, the view of the vineyards...

Review 10:We enjoyed walking around St Emilion, but it was nice to spend the night away from crowds and in a very peaceful setting. Everything was perfect, including the wine cake at breakfast baked by "the gourmand". Our room was large with a nice view of the vineyards. We had a wine tasting but the real treat came from being able to peek into the areas where the folks were starting work with the grapes just coming from the vines. Great experience!

Review 11:Hard to find anything negative. A bottle of house wine by the bedside would have been nice!

Review 12:If you own a large property in France, you obviously call it a "Chateau." On Chateau standards, Franc Grace-Dieu is a very large house surrounded by vineyards. The owners have obviously spent a lot of money renovating both the interior and exterior. The bedroom was large and comfortable and the bathroom was very modern. A communal lounge was available for guests, so brush up on your Chess skills. Nice external sitting area in the vineyard for a late afternoon wine. Plenty of parking space and wine tasting available on request. Excellent breakfast. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room. Only 3 km from the mediaeval village of St Emilion. Would recommend.

Review 13:Some details of the accommodation are not up to normal hotel standards

Review 14:Simple accommodation in an historic chateau that has been in the same family for 5 generations. It is in the heart of the St Emilion wine growing area and offers good value.

Review 15:N/A

Review 16:Superb building and surroundings with good value for money. The staff have very good English and were amongst the most helpful and friendly proprietors we have ever encountered. They allowed us a free wine tasting session of the wines made on site. Breakfast was fresh and very tasty with homemade banana bread amongst fresh bread and croissants and fruit. Cannot recommend this place highly enough

Review 17:Great little tour of their functioning vineyard by a very engaging guide. They helped us plan out our day. Great breakfast provided by staff. Quaint chateau with amazing rooms. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Review 18:It is only a short distance from St Emilion but a taxi in and out was €30 for such a short trip is expensive.

Review 19:The hotel is lovely and so is breakfast sitting around listening to everyone's different stories about the previous day. Would highly recommend. We were lucky to see the bottling of the wine on the day that we were leaving.

Review 20:All stuffes were welcomed us and explained about the town and restaurants they recommend without any hesitation. We would like to emphasize how wonderful breakfast was. The property was surrounded with their vineyard. It was just beautiful and quite.

Review 21:This is a charming hotel that makes you feel at home. Our room was spacious, clean and good in size. The 2 ladies that welcomed us were very kind. It was a pity we had to leave really early the following day as we missed what it seemed to be a delicious breakfast

Review 22:Just a little ways outside of St. Emillion so it was easy to visit the town but a calm and quiet place to stay. Quaint room, airy and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.

Review 23:Beautiful setting, delightful room and very nice reception from the owner who spoke very good English. We would like to have sampled the breakfast but had to leave early in the morning.

Review 24:Boutique style accomadation. Beautiful and very tasteful decor and furnishings. Very relaxing with fantastic views of the vineyards. Excellent facilities in St Emilion, which is a short car journey. Would definitely recommend!

Review 25:Frederick was an enthusiastic host with a vast Knowledge of wine. He did a most enjoyable wine tasting with us. Isabel gave us a lovely breakfast and was charming, nothing seemed to much trouble for them to make our stay enjoyable, First Class.

Review 26:Beautiful location, stunning views, large spacious & airy room with very large bed & lovely linen. Will definitely go back for a longer visit!

Review 27:Mosquito control was not good. First night we were eaten alive. No aircon and very very hot but at least there was a fan. If you left shutters and windows shut to keep room cool as suggested was extremely dark and not much point in paying for vineyard view! Breakfast a little boring. Had washing machine breakdown and we had to ask for towels at 5pm at night. The other owner then regaled us with the machine problems as if it wasn't her fault / go buy more towers I say!!

Review 28:Great location, welcoming owner excellent and very helpful. Isabella at breakfast could not do enough for us and sas excellent fun.

Review 29:If you'd like to walk to the town of St Emilion; it's at least 30 minutes alongside a busy road that lacks a sidewalk.

Review 30:Warm, friendly and enthusiastic staff. An introductory wine tasting on site is included. The breakfast was perfect and we had it on a big table with the other guests, which made a very interesting conversation.

Review 31:Breakfast could have a better selection of fresh fruit.

Review 32:Friendly staff. Spacious rooms with lovely decor and views. Showers were roomy and had a good water pressure. Beds very comfortable.

Review 33:On a very hot day a much larger fridge would have been much more sensible. We felt a little pressured taking up space with our items to get cool as well as items for a young baby.Bottom line..a bigger communal fridge would make sense.

Review 34:The staff were exceptionally helpful..the atmosphere ..the sense of history..the vineyard....and the wine is yet to be opened but will be opened on August 10th in Australia..a 2009 St.Emilion which I purchased there!

Review 35:No restaurants within walking distance so would need to drive (and so not drink!) to eat out. Having said that we had a lovely picnic on the terrace with an excellent bottle of chateau's wine.

Review 36:Room was lovely with a nice bathroom. Owner was very welcoming. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 37:all was ok - but 9 Euro for breakfast was a bit steep for basic Continental breakfast - coffee was poor quality - this is working "Chateau" so machinery noise during the night is a risk. it did not bother us as it was steady generator-type noise

Review 38:reasonable value - quality bed, bathroom - very clean

Review 39:Gorgeous setting, lovely decor and very friendly, personable welcome with local restaurant recommendations. A little out from the village but worth the walk - nice and relaxing after a meal & wine!

Review 40:Too far out to walk, nearer St Emilion would have been better.

Review 41:Easy, great continental breakfast. Room was clean and tidy and well presented. Shower was great. We would return, definitely

Review 42:Frederic was very enthusiastic about the chateau and his wine. The rooms were to a great standard and comfortable beds. Would definitely recommend it!

Review 43:Keep in mind that if you do not have a car, you are about 3 km from town (St. Emilion) and there is no bus stop or readily available taxi service to and from town. We walked to town and were happy to get the exercise, but this many not be for everyone.

Review 44:Comfortable, spacious rooms, uniquely decorated. Views of the gardens, vineyards, countryside. Super breakfasts and good wine. Note that this is not a B&B in the normal sense - where you're living in a home or inn where the proprietor also lives. Altho a very friendly person arrives each morning to put out an excellent country breakfast and make up the rooms, no one is on staff during the day or overnight. You are basically renting rooms, and on your own for any amenities/services. This suited us just fine and we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone who travels independently.

Review 45:Location on outskirts of St Emilion - a very quick drive into town. The wine tasting was great, we drank a bottle in the garden overlooking the vines - beautiful.

Review 46:The Chateau Grace Dieu has a splendidly comfortable Guest House just outside St Emelion. The welcome was friendly and the staff were helpful. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast excellent. A degustation of the chateau's wines was arramged for us with no obligation to buy. Strongly recommended.

Review 47:Breakfast was very disappointing - it lacked style, substance and generousity. Crockery was plain silly.

Review 48:Lovely chateau in the heart of the wine growing area. Our host Frederic gave us an informative and very entertaining wine tasting - thankyou!

Review 49:Perfect base to visit St Emilion and nearby cities. Room is large and clean overlooking the vineyards. Breakfast is yummy and service is very personal and friendly.

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff - directions to get around town and several excellent dinner suggestions . Very roomy room and this was their smallest one

Review 52:We spent a magical few days here, Fred and our lovely hostess were very friendly and welcoming!! You must try their 2009! Would recommend the HUGE suite!! very impressive and comfortable!!

Review 53:There was no one after 7pm available if there was a problem. We didn't have soap in the shower, so used shampoo to wash.

Review 54:The location was great. And Frederick did a very nice wine tasting. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 55:Peaceful location, Dining out advice and service by hostess, breakfast, presentation by Frederick about the Wines of the chateau and Saint Emilion

Review 56:As we were leaving a fierce looking dog spent a considerable time barking at us, frightening my 11 month old young daughter. Nobody came to take care of the situation.

Review 57:Location and surroundings, in the middle of a working winery and a short drive away from Saint Emilion. Our room was big, nicely decorated with a vey good modern toilet and shower. Our host was very nice and gave us some advice about places to eat in Saint Emilion.

Review 58:The manager was extremely helpful and courteous. He provided free wine tasting spending considerable time with us and providing lots of good local info. Rooms were large and comfortable. Located out of town so needed to drive 5 minutes to St Emilion for lunch/dinner.

Review 59:The whole Chateau floor is made of wood, so you have to walk on tiptoe not to wake up all guests with the annoying squeaky floor. The double bed were in fact two single beds together. The mattress were dipping. In one of the rooms there was no shower, just a bathtub with a faucet and a hand shower. In the other room the shower was broken so it kept sliding down in the adjustable slide bar. Room without refrigeration system.

Review 60:Great experience to stay in a winery. Very close (by car) to Saint-Emilion. Charming place. Very good breakfast at a decent price. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 61:Nothing! Everything was very nice, more than expected

Review 62:Location and surroundings, very close to Saint Emillion Breakfast, excellent Attention by host, very nice and helpful person

Review 63:This bed and breakfast does not put customer care at the top of its agenda nor does the staff appear to care about customer other than getting money from you... I was travelling with a friend and asked for a room with two single beds which wasn't available. Instead I had to beg for a camp bed, which the owner charged 20€ euro per night but gave a single sheet no duvet cover and I had to make up the bed . I asked to change rooms the next day as my back was in bits from the camp bed but although rooms were available my reqest was ignored . I didn't sleep as there was machinery working in the winery all night which was attached to the house.. The breakfast was poor quality with food recycled and going off . There was free wine tasting advertised on the notice board so we came back at the advertised time but there was no one there and the building was empty .. Would not recommend this accommodation, it was a rip off.

Review 64:The location is good and the building very recently done up in am over the top ikea style . The setting is lovely in the midst of a working winery.

Review 65:Breakfast somewhat overpriced unless you need a large breakfast. Staff was absent except for checking -in and out (perhaps seasonal).

Review 66:Facilities clean and comfortable. Breakfast with guests from other countries adds another dimension to the travel experience.

Review 67:Nothing. But we realized the value of the car for countryside travelers.

Review 68:Very kind and helpful staff. Knowing we are traveling without a car, she willingly sent us to St. Emilion town, picked and sent us to St. Emilion station. Thank you!

Review 69:Great wine tasting in a friendly idyll. The wine was so gorgeous we shipped several boxes. Beautifully furnished rooms, 30 minute walk to the fabulous St Emillion restaurants. Surrounded by beautiful-to-walk-through vineyards this classically furnished, beautiful chateau was the greatest place to stay. The staff couldn't have been more helpful in accommodating our wishes.

Review 70:A lovely chateau which produces its own wines. On arrival we were greeted by Emilie, who spoke perfect English and ran a private wine tasting for us, giving us pointers as to what to look for and taste (we ordered a dozen of the 2010). The accommodation was excellent, super shower! Good nights sleep. Emilie advised us of places to eat in St Emilion, a 30 minute walk through the vineyards to get there - well it would have been 30 minutes had we not ended up walking around a walled vineyard next to the town, trying to find a gate!

Review 71:the tetrapak!

Review 72:Everything was good except that the day the French will discover orange does exist as a fruit (to make juice) and not only as a tetrapak this will be a second revolution after the one of 1789! Such a nice place a not a freshly squeezed orange is a retarded way of making breakfast but the rest is very good: nice and comfy bed, very friendly staff, perfect location... really ideal !

Review 73:Nothing.

Review 74:Peace and tranquility. Friendliness and helpfullness of staff. Excellent breakfast choice/amount. Stunning bathroom/bedroom. Not forgetting the wine tasting, thank you Emilie!

Review 75:Room ok, lacking place to put clothes, not as homely as could be, couldn't find place to plug in kettle.

Review 76:Wonderful breakfast and very friendly staff. Room size very good, nice bath

Review 77:As it was called chateau I was expecting the exterior of the building to look more like a chateau. Wifi in the room would be a plus.

Review 78:The rooms are spacious and decorated with style. You are welcomed with a free degustation of their local wine. Definitely worth a visit.

Review 79:Nothing to dislike!

Review 80:Standard of our room was excellent and spotless. Huge bed v comfortable. Lovely breakfast with other guests with fresh bread/croissants, homemade jams, cake. cheeses. ham ,yogurts, etc. We were also given a speciality of the region, a warm canale - lovely. Also friendly staff and informative wine tasting as we arrived. Highly recommend.

Review 81:Nothing we didn't like

Review 82:Hotel rooms very good and staff very helpful. Great location to see all the nearby sites. Breakfast very good. Highly recommend a stay

Review 83:For dinner you need to drive into town (or walk probably 20+ minutes on a busier road). The town is amazing though!

Review 84:This is a lovely country home right in the middle of the vineyard, so you see the vines outside your windows. The room was large and had a nice bathroom with a large bathtub. The staff was very welcoming and we enjoyed taking part in the wine tasting with them. Highly recommended!

Review 85:Style has taken over from practicality in a couple of respects, notably wash hand basin and shower.

Review 86:Space in room Accessibility to St Emilion Wine tasting Helpfulness of Hostess over booking error

Review 87:This was an excellent choice. Although it did not have the facilities of a large hotel the accommodation was second to none and the people that ran the Chateau could not do enough to help you.

Review 88:The room (number 5) was large, bright and well appointed. The hotel is small and intimate and the staff was gracious yet discreet. Breakfast at the communal table was generous and emphasized local products.

Review 89:Staf at reception didn't know we were arriving and couldn't tell us anything about the chateau. We went for a walk an actually bought wine from a neighbour for dinner in town.

Review 90:Location

Review 91:Lovely property located in vineyard close to St Emillion. Large accommodation area. Very friendly helpful person in charge.

Review 92:Very nice and helpfull staff, cute room and awesome breakfast.

Review 93:The room and chateau were so gorgeous. Staff welcomed us with a complimentary glass of wine to enjoy on the grounds while we waited for our room.

Review 94:Beautiful place, fab location. Everything about it was amazing. Definitely worth a second visit

Review 95:Isabel was a delightful hostess for a delicious breakfast.

Review 96:Beautiful building and location among the vines. Half hour walk into St Emillion.

Review 97:Friendly and accommodating. Comfortable rooms.

Review 98:bath room equipment out of order

Review 99:A nice guest house in the middle of wine yards. Very good breakfast.

Review 100:Loved the room. Almost like a parador or pousada. Staff really friendly and helpful.

Review 101:Staying just outside St.Emilion allowed us peace and quiet as well as close proximity to the town

Review 102:There was no one there when I arrived at the indicated time! After an hour I booked elsewhere and left.

Review 103:The lack of soundproofing in the room and lack of carpets in the corridor meant we were kept awake by other guests.

Review 104:lovely welcome of the owner, wonderful designed and spacious rooms, cosy bed!

Review 105:Friendly helpful staff, fantastic breakfast, comfortable and stylish room.

Review 106:Not very clean, and breakfast not as expected

Review 107:The place looks magical Staff was practical about our late arrival time

Review 108:Beautiful chateau tastefully decorated, great welcome and stunning view of the vineyard from the bedroom window.
