Reviews for The Ship Inn

Review 1:Shared bathroom Stairwell grotty Tired and small room with dated furniture and no surfaces to put papers books makeup etc. No fruit or yoghurt at breakfast

Review 2:The staff and location

Review 3:Having to share bathroom, unable to even get in there in the morning. Maybe they should consider putting in extra bathrooms in one or two of the bedrooms. Very noisy at night, first night people in street talking loudly, second night singer in the bar til very late.

Review 4:It was good to be so near the centre of town. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable. Really good breakfast.

Review 5:Lovely relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We ate in the pub and the food was gorgeous... Incredible scotch egg starter! We installed ourselves in the bar when we arrived and didn't move until bedtime! Breakfast was delicious and the whole stay was easy and worth every penny :]

Review 6:I don't think the Delux Suite quite lives up to its price.

Review 7:The Inn was in the middle of beautiful Fowey so everything was on your doorstep. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 8:A great place to stay, staff helpful good value comfortable rooms. Breakfast good although only from 9am unless pre booked. Didn't have ensuite bathrooms which was not ideal. Overall a great place in fantastic location. Another plus is a large family room available.

Review 9:Delightful staff, middle of town close to quay, excellent breakfast, other food said to be very good by people we met, though we ate out as had breakfast there daily. Good value.

Review 10:Sharing bathroom but we knew this when we booked and the price reflects this, due to the nature of it being a historic pub cant see any way around this though. On a positivenote, at least have a sink in room.Carpet in room smelt of dogs.

Review 11:Staff were lovely, location couldn't be better - central to Fowey. A historic pub with interesting history. The kippers were delicious too that we had for breakfast

Review 12:The room was not serviced during my stay. Breakfast was not served until 9.00am rather than the usual 8.30am.

Review 13:Friendly and welcoming staff, availabilty of evening meals.

Review 14:shared bathroom but we knew about that when we booked and we were only there for a night. very noisy street outside into small hours.

Review 15:charming ancient building with lots of creaking boards and original features right in centre of Fowey. Excellent breakfast with perfect scrambled eggs. Shared bathroom was clean and modern. friendly staff who were very nice to our little dog .would book there again.

Review 16:We stayed here on a Saturday night in july. The pub was extremely noisy and spilled out into the street after closing. We had anothet drunk guest knocking at our door throughout the night. We like to party too but this was so noisy (even for us!) the room walls are just too thin, so be prepared. Probably wouldn't recommend to family with small children.

Review 17:The cooked breakfast was very nice and the staff were very friendly.

Review 18:I don't normally write reviews but in this case I felt the need as small changes would make this place absolutely fantastic. Firstly, I felt invisible most of my 3 day stay. I would walk into the breakfast room or to the bar (out of hours) and although staff were milling around none of them looked at me let alone acknowledged me. We booked a table in the restaurant one evening and after 30 minutes of being ignored by passing staff we discovered that we needed to order the food and drink at the bar. You would have thought they could have mentioned this when they put the menus on the table? The chef / manager gave us a complimentary lobster starter as an apology for the confusion. The restaurant is such a lovely room, but there is no attempt at atmosphere in the evenings. Candles would be a nice addition. The food was absolutely fantastic which makes it all the more a shame. It could be the best place in Fowey with relatively simple changes. The breakfast was also really good and they should be as busy as other eateries in town. As it was Regatta week they only had a family room available (£120 pn) for me and my son (20 year old) - he slept in an already collapsed bunk bed. I mentioned the issue, but there was not attempt to fix it and on departure no reduced rate in recognition of this. The room was not replenished with tea / coffee / new cups on the second day (or cleaned). A plastic bag hanging on the radiator as a bin. Shared shower / loo, which surprised me for the price.

Review 19:Great location. Fantastic breakfast and dinner was excellent.

Review 20:This is nothing to do with the Ship Inn, but is relevant to any travelers to Fowey. The parking arrangements for the town appear to be so complicated as to fool the unwary into paying a fine! This is a topic that should be taken up by all the businesses in the town! There are 2 main long stay car parks, one at the top of the town, which is a steep walk down, and the other by the Boddinick Ferry. Not an inconsiderable walk! The charges are per hour through the day from 9am to 6pm, then, £2 up to 12.30am, then free until 9am. There is no way to pay for the following day. So you have a very steep climb up to the top car park, or a half mile walk to the Ferry car park before 9am to top up your ticket! Apparently, you can pay by mobile phone? But there is no signal in Fowey! Our party had 5 phones between us, but none of us were able to get a signal during our stay! There is a small bus shuttle service that does a round trip of the 2 car parks and the town. But it doesn't start until 10.30am. So unless you are extremely energetic and can run up the hill early in the morning, or take a mile round trip to the Ferry car park? I would consider visiting other, more visitor friendly towns in Cornwall!

Review 21:Location and a sense of history was great.

Review 22:We had to park car at main car park at the top of Fowey as there was noparking nearby (unavoidable) Car park charges at begin at 9 am and sodoes breakfast. So I had to go up to the car park (quite a climb) toinsert coins for pay and display, and then come down for breakfast. Maybe breakfast should start earlier. The car park charges are excessive. There should be an arrangement for guests to have at leas special carpark coupon to cover the entire day at a reduced rate as in otherplaces. Car parking is the big problem for this hotel. One retailer inFowey told me the local council had little interest in solving the carpark problem and helping the hotels and retailers, as the pay anddisplay charges in the main car park were a good source of revenue,

Review 23:Lovely old building good room and good staff

Review 24:Bed was awful, didn't even have a matress on the one double bed in family room, there was some sort of thin looking duvet that had been stuffed, resembled a cover off a sun lounger! Bedding was lovely but bed was unaceptable. Room was tired looking with a mish mash of old furniture.

Review 25:Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was lovely with good quality products. Lovely clean bathroom.

Review 26:There was live music at the pub until 12, which we were only told about on check in. What was not said was that then music would go on until 1.30, which was so loud and then shouting of people who had had a few too many outside until 2.30. Could then hear staff etc talking and shouting loudly down and upstairs. If you like a lively venue then this is the place for you on a Saturday night! Also bathroom shared but not clear on booking.

Review 27:The location was fantastic as right in the centre of town. The breakfast breakfast and service in the morning was good. The room was clean.

Review 28:The Ship requires refurbishment and attention to detail by the management. Examples are the communal shower (no en suite rooms) had part empty shampoo bottles and dried up bits of old soap at 1.30pm that, presumably, had been left there from the previous day. Breakfast was not available until 9am which was disappointing.

Review 29:Good central location.

Review 30:We stayed for 2 nights and on both nights were kept awake until 2:30 am with noise from the pub and staff using the room opposite ours as a gathering place. For the price a shared bathroom with several other rooms and staff is not acceptable. No mention of car parking as far as we could see and the extortionate and manipulative pricing was a disgrace

Review 31:The Oak room was nice but the door was warped it did not close correctly.

Review 32:The mattress was too soft, swinging at every move of yourself or of your partner, almost having the feeling you were in a ship, literally. But maybe that was the whole point. :))

Review 33:It is a quiet place, easy to find. The staff was very friendly.

Review 34:No double room available so we had a twin room. Moved beds and found horrible dirt underneath, shared bathrooms.

Review 35:Great staff, professional and prompt. Reduced room cost on realising mistake and were very professional.

Review 36:Breakfast could have varying quantity and quality. One day 3 pieces of toast each then just another day just one. Butter strictly regulated. They thought Earl Grey was a normal breakfast drink. Replenishing breakfast items like milk or orange juice and cereal, even bowls was hit and miss. Seemed all staff going through a learning curve.

Review 37:Friendliness of staff. Good food. Although the new owners and staff seem to be going through a learning curve they were always mindful of the needs of the customer

Review 38:TV not working, poorly lit step in hall to bathroom. Roman blind broken so room was light. No hairdryer available. Member of staff obviously didn't want to deal with us, she had been pulled from the back room to serve. Walked off whilst I tried to ask her something else, very brusque manner.
