Reviews for The Old Ferry Inn

Review 1:the towels were clean but should be washed at very high temperature to get rid of any smell

Review 2:great location, excellent pub food roaring fire in chimney, lovely breakfast room with stunning view of the port

Review 3:Unfortunately there was scaffolding around the building so we did'nt get the great view that we originally booked for.

Review 4:Great location and very friendly staff

Review 5:Mistook booking thinking it had an on suite bathroom but although private it was down a corridor. Bed was 4'6 which is too small in the modern world. Also mistook location it was across a ferry from Fowey. Staff although friendly a bit strange and generally understaffed. Parking perilous too!

Review 6:Good menu and bar. Super views of estuary.

Review 7:Not so good having our own bathroom down hall , buy we knew what we were getting , so not a problem .

Review 8:Location of the ferry inn , very good food , paschal ferry helpful

Review 9:The room access was difficult up very narrow stairs which would be a problem for older people. The floor of the room was very uneven. The door of the room could not lock but was fixed on a temporary basis for our stay.

Review 10:Good location. Friendly staff. Great view from the dining room. Easy access to ferry.

Review 11:Access is difficult. Unless you know your way around (and tourists arriving for the first time won't), you don't know not to follow the sign coming off the ferry to turn left. The Inn is straight ahead but up a very narrow, very steep road. There is a parking area for inn guests but it's some way up the road from the inn and not clearly signposted, so arriving and not knowing where to go or where to park was stressful. Inside the Inn there are lots of stairs, quite narrow and steep which could be difficult for those with limited mobility. The room was somewhat cramped and the bathroom totally inadequate.

Review 12:Location directly overlooking the Fowey estuary is stunning. Views from our room and the restaurant are to die for. The staff were friendly, courteous and went out of their way to help with carrying luggage, parking etc. Food at both breakfast and dinner was very good.

Review 13:The bedroom was not up to standard e.g only one bedside table/light. Lumpy mattress. Loud televisions from adjacent bedrooms. Standard of breakfasts were variable.

Review 14:We loved the view from the dining room and the bedroom. Shower was very good. Staff friendly and efficient.Evening meals were excellent.

Review 15:Could not make out who was in charge. Some parts were a bit shabby.

Review 16:The position of the inn is very special, glorious views.Good to be able to eat in the bar or the restaurant.

Review 17:Loved the quirkiness of the whole place...don't change! Staff delightful and the service great. Breakfast staff so helpful and patient. We'll be back as soon as we can

Review 18:Room clean enough... didn't like the fact that our private bathroom was across the corridor (we did know this prior to booking) just didn't like it. Food poor quality with exception to the breakfast which was great

Review 19:Location was amazing and staff very friendly

Review 20:Location - not in a village, which we were looking for (just the Inn and a few houses. Wrong side of river, had to get ferry over to Fowey for everything and it stopped at 8pm! OK if you want a quiet hol away from everything.

Review 21:Quaint old Inn, nice bar, good view from dining area and outside.

Review 22:Eden project expensive. We only saw and listened to one guide (he was very interesting) and I would have expected more guides for the price. Zip wire was fun though.

Review 23:Friendly staff. Food was good although kippers for breakfast was a bit bland (old?) Great bar. Nice and quite at night. The Bodinnick to Poluran walk is a lovely walk.

Review 24:Only this hotel and a few houses in the village.

Review 25:Great location with the exception of you are on the wrong side of the river! Ferry stops about 8.45 so if you are in Fowey after this time then it's a 14 mile round trip driving to get back to the hotel.

Review 26:The difficulty of access at certain times of day. You are dependent on the ferry to get you across from Fowey, and some days there is no late ferry (i.e. after 8pm).

Review 27:The view is stunning, the atmosphere is engagingly retro, the service is helpful and friendly (although there was the odd glitch). We found Pascal delightful.

Review 28:Would have preferred en suite but the private shower room was a good size and well decorated.

Review 29:Wonderful view from bedroom and dining room. Excellent menu and food perfectly cooked and presented. Quiet. Friendly, helpful staff

Review 30:our shower & toilet had no washbasin, this was in bedroom. Room was tired looking & decor old fashioned!

Review 31:Beautiful views of harbour from hotel, near ferry, hospitality of owner, generous breakfast!

Review 32:Booked a room with a view over river Fowey, very nice view but at £30 per night extra, £60 for the two nights we stayed in Aug. a bit dear.

Review 33:Food was excellent, ate in the bar to soak up the locals, very friendly.

Review 34:The kitchen is very dirty, a dog was inside which is not the best for hygiene ! My husband was sick after having dinner in the restaurant Very old facilities, noisy rooms

Review 35:The situation is good to stop on the road

Review 36:Although the food was good at breakfast, could have done with more than 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 egg but that's me. More choice on the kids menu rather than chips with every meal. Wi fi was available but wasn't great.

Review 37:Fantastic location. Food was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 38:We expected a bathroom en suite, looking at the booking we see it was worded as a private bathroom! as we are a mature couple and visit the bathroom during the night, this spoilt our stay having to get into dressing gowns unlock our bedroom door walk down a corridor and having to unlock the bathroom door. felt it was very expensive stay to only have a room and bathroom three doors away.

Review 39:The views were fantastic.

Review 40:The only comment is that the private bathrooms, although spotless & well equipped, are not en-suite.

Review 41:Quirky, character property with an excellent bar & restaurant. Our room had fantastic views across the bay into Fowey.

Review 42:On arrival booked restaurant for 8.30, on entering restaurant we were told last orders at 8.30 so you'll have to hurry your order, stood over us while we sat down to take order. Our drink, starter, and main finished and paid for by 9.19 according to bill receipt. Food was good but felt very rushed.

Review 43:Views from restaurant were lovely, nice walk along trail with beautiful views

Review 44:Wi fi not available in room Smaller portions at breakfast than other hotels Located across the estuary from Fowey so somewhat dependent on the ferry running

Review 45:Friendly staff especially the landlord Great pub Delicious food in great restaurant with amazing views

Review 46:Only fault we found slight mould in shower cubicle and on ceiling above shower and had job to open door to our room with key provided. Very

Review 47:Very welcoming friendly staff. Food excellent, bed really comfy. Would have been great situ for the red arrows had the display not been cancelled due to fog.

Review 48:Parking is at a premium so arrive early to secure off street parking.

Review 49:Fowey is a great place to stay and if you want to experience staying in quaint and historic accommodation Old Ferry Inn is the place to go

Review 50:didn't like not having free access to wifi

Review 51:fab location and property. staff great-arrived very late and it wasn't a problem ordered dinner at close of business!! lovely lovely meal

Review 52:The Inn is placed beside a very steep road leading to the bank of the Fowey river: getting the Inn's car park is not that easy.

Review 53:Friendly environment, warm welcome, very sensitive staff to our problems with some allergens, great traditional English food, great view. Wonderful stay. I'll go there again.

Review 54:No bad experience, just felt it unusual to have a separate bathroom which you unlocked for your own use. Found the corridor a little bit dark when trying to put the key in. This however added to its charm being a very old building.

Review 55:Lovely views. Evening meals were well presented and very tasty with that little bit extra.

Review 56:Paid an extra £75 for a 3 night stay for an estuary view room - got side room and had to crane neck to see estuary.

Review 57:Very friendly staff, clean rooms and excellent breakfast and dinner.

Review 58:No parking that's not a good thing when you booked at the b/b not fair that other people Park there

Review 59:Bedroom very clean.beautiful settings beautiful views. The downfall of this place. I had to park my car way past the hill. When people that are staying at the b/b parked in our place very disappointed

Review 60:The lack of knowledge in staff about Breakfast times etc was not known. Wasn't greeted on arrival we were only a number coming through the door. Breakfast was terrible cold and dry bacon couldn't eat it. We were asked if we required a newspaper and said yes please. In the morning no paper had to find staff to ask where newspaper was and was informed it didn't turn up?????

Review 61:Location.

Review 62:We had to wait to find someone to speak to re booking in. guy opening up the bar dealt with us in the end. really need to improve on this .

Review 63:parking facilities were ideal. room was excellent. bed really comfortable. good breakfast. staff very helpful.

Review 64:We requested a room for two adults and a child and they gave a doubleroom with an additional bed and charged double the price of double room.We could have had two double rooms for the same price.

Review 65:Location was good.

Review 66:Very disappointing. This place clearly trades on its location, room and bathroom needs a good clean, toilet seat loose, shower very poor. Staff not very friendly

Review 67:Excellent view of the bay

Review 68:Keep in mind with going into town having to take the ferry/boat back to the hotel. There's no elevator!

Review 69:Authentic B&B on a perfect location with a beautiful view .

Review 70:As a person just over 6ft the ceiling was close to the top of my head! Difficult parking on a tight steep area.

Review 71:Great views over the river from the restaurant. Very nice food. Very authentic old inn. Friendly staff and cosy bar area.

Review 72:Pascale was a great host and as we were to miss breakfast due to early start left a beautiful breakfast outside room that night, fruit, croissants, cereal, and even boiled eggs! Thank you Pascale

Review 73:Wonderful location opposite Daphne DuMauriers house virtually on the ferry slipway. Proper old country inn, great location base for touring south Cornwall. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Review 74:Hill to car park staff using up parking opposit hotel ferry required to most destinations to many dogs not hotels fault

Review 75:Nice pleasant place worth the experiance

Review 76:The shower in the en suite didn't work. There was a bath , but the water pressure was low, so I don't know how long it would have taken to fill, Any way I prefer to have a shower. Parking is very difficult, the parking space was restricted and difficult to access.

Review 77:The location was superb, with wonderful views down the Fowey estuary.

Review 78:Parking was a problem

Review 79:The personel were very friendly and extreemly helpfull The location was breathtaking on the banks of a river with a great view of the harbour.Breakfast and evening meals were very good.

Review 80:Friendly, comfortable and very welcoming. Great location and service. Only spent one night, but marvellous old fashioned gem of a place. Would return without hesitation.

Review 81:Parking could be a problem but fortunately we found a space on their limited car park away from the hotel. Difficult to walk anywhere close to the hotel with narrow country lanes and no footpaths

Review 82:Friendly staff and good food both for dinner and breakfast. Wonderful view from bedroom window over always active river Fowey.

Review 83:The location is more than slightly challenging (at the bottom of a very steep / narrow hill) and the parking is not that good or convenient. But this is the price you pay for the views and beauty.

Review 84:This was a great place stay and a truly wonderful visit to the area. The staff were all wonderful - thank you Pete! - and the food and beer both truly excellent. It goes without saying that the location is amazing: scenic (and photogenic) beyond belief and very handy for the ferry and Fowey - though a walk to Polruan. The rooms are "cozy" but very well kept, clean and tidy and everything works - and let's face it, with countryside like this who would sit in their room all day? Would we go back? In a heart beat!!! Thank you for a magical stay.

Review 85:I stayed for 1 night with my Mum and we had a lovely time. We missed the last ferry back from Fowey and it was a huge deal to get back to the B+B so be very careful of this if you go!

Review 86:Not the fault of the hotel but finding space to park was a bit tedious

Review 87:Cosy, friendly, cleanand superb food. The proprietor ran the bar which had an informal and comfortable atmosphere.

Review 88:Situated overlooking the gorgeous Fowey River. This old Inn offered comfort, delicious dinners, & very kind management who gave us some amazing mint cream to help heal my husband's sciatica. Our first room had a very low ceiling so fortunately neither of us were 6 foot tall. Even though our bathroom was down the hall from our bedroom we never passed anyone on the way & the facilities were clean & new. In fact everything worked! ( which is not always the norm). We chose to stay an extra night & made our way to Eden Project as well as a ten mile walk from Polperro to Looe before returning home to Oz.

Review 89:We had the family room on the top floor with incredible views. Very comfortable and spacious, and there was a warm welcome in the bar for food and good beer. Really convenient for the ferry and the kids loved watching the boats go past

Review 90:We were in room 3. The room above is a family room. The heavy tread of the 4 occupants was very loud plus voices spoiled what was a happy visit.

Review 91:Lovely location, friendly staff, delicious meals in restaurant.

Review 92:The shower. There is an obvious need for modernisation which is being addressed

Review 93:Excellent food at reasonable price. Views down the estuary marvellous, and complete with dolphin and giant jellyfish. Good service from friendly staff.

Review 94:The location across the river meant you couldn't get in to town in the evening as the last passenger ferry back is early - around 8 isn o you are stuck for the evening. Very little on this side of the river!

Review 95:Accommodation excellent with a great freshly cooked breakfast

Review 96:No bad experiences but need to use car ferry or long way round the estuary to visit national tourist centres e.g. The Eden Project and Gardens of Heligan. We could have checked this on the map beforehand, so it was our own fault that we didn't realise this.

Review 97:Good food. Nice room and views. Booked on behalf of my 2 friends. Beautiful situation on the estuay.

Review 98:Position although attractive involved lots of ferry crossings which although easy and interesting, rather restricted evening activities as ferry stopped at 20.00. Not the hotels fault but rather cornered you for dinner in the hotel.

Review 99:Good very good, staff very friendly and professional.

Review 100:The small flower borders on the upper terrace parapet could do with some tlc. A15 minute job but well worthwhile

Review 101:Informal, relaxing. Great location and view Evening meal first rate

Review 102:Car parking a tight squeeze, steep lane, not suitable for less able bodies Last passenger/car ferry back from Fowey 8.30pm, but private water taxis available later.

Review 103:Beautiful views, and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere

Review 104:It is across the river from Fowey which is not a probelm during the day due to the ferry but can be a problem later in the evening if you do not have a car.

Review 105:Excellent facilities / very friendly staff / excellent food / well appointed rooms with comfortable beds

Review 106:The Inn is the heart of this community. Visitors and locals alike come there for the excellent food, drink and ambience, not to forget the stunning views. Pasqual, the innkeeper, is a great host and very helpful.

Review 107:All good, could do with a coat of paint on the outside to enhance the external view but everything inside very clean and spick and span.

Review 108:Great atmosphere, friendly and wonderful view from our large bay window. Like being in a club in the homely bar by the fire with Salsa the pooch.

Review 109:The location was perfect with great views across the river to Fowey. Food (Dinner and Breakfast) could not fault. Room was clean and very comfortable.

Review 110:Room was small and the ensuing shower/ WC was tiny. No wifi in the room. Had to go to lounge. No ferry service after 7:45pm, so location, while beautiful, is not ideal.

Review 111:View over Fowey. Very good restaurant. Both for breakfast and dinner. Friendly service

Review 112:Nothing bad to say about the inn or our stay. Hope to return.

Review 113:Especially enjoyed gazing at the view across to Fowey and out to sea, watching boats and seabirds from our bedroom window as well as from the terrace, lounge and restaurant. Our room was very comfortable and we enjoyed having a hot deep bath after walking all day. Breakfast and the one evening meal we had were all excellent. Free parking too, which I think would be hard to find in Fowey itself.

Review 114:breakfast was lovely with good choices, very characterful facilities, we ate dinner both nights and the food was excellent and good value. The dinning room has the most wonderful views. A great place unwind.

Review 115:Breakfast was not the best, deep fried fried bread lazy too crisp and inedible. Room 7 full price as ensuite but the bath with shower over is tiny and in need of modernisation. Water pressure very low in both of our parties rooms, perhaps just due to the low position of the building but makes showering interesting!!

Review 116:Beautiful view of Fowey lovely old building but rooms rather tired. We thought we were going to be in Fowey as advertised so had to use the expensive ferry to get accrosd the river

Review 117:Rather expensive bedroom could've been a little more luxurious for the money paid.restaurant

Review 118:Location is beautiful, close to the foot ferry over to Foye, lovely breakfast.

Review 119:Car parking is a nightmare. The hotel is located on a narrow street with double yellow lines on each side. It does have its own car park at the top of a steep hill, the marked spaces are very small and when the car park is full, it is a very difficult manoeuvre to enter/exit the car park

Review 120:The friendliness of the hotel's staff. The food in the restaurant was good with generous portions but the "specials" were the same every day. The ferry to Fowey is adjacent to the hotel which is very convenient because parking in Fowey is difficult.

Review 121:Caught on the wrong side of an early closing ferry which effectively shut us out from the delights of Fowey at night

Review 122:45 years later and the magic remains

Review 123:Across the river from Fowey itself, the ferry adds to the experience but stops at 20.00.

Review 124:Relaxed, pub atmosphere, good beer, community feel with people dropping in to the bar.

Review 125:Absolutely friendly and very helpful staff. Broad choice for breakfast, including full English option plus excellent lunch and dinner menus with a sensibly priced wine list. The car and foot passenger (including dogs) ferry across to Fowey is virtually across the road from the Inn/Hotel.

Review 126:The quiet of Bodinnick, yet the proximity of Fowey.lovely views of the estuary. Delicious supper in the restaurant and a good choice of breakfast goodies.

Review 127:Nothing, but be aware the inn is across the river from Fowey so you take a ferry . They don't run very late! But the walks from the inn are beautiful.

Review 128:Fantastic location, right on the water, with wonderful views of the whole estuary from the dining room and terraces. The food was very good, both breakfasts and dinner. Staff very helpful.

Review 129:If you are late at arrival time...don't know what is the solution to reach the place if you are coming from the other side of the river, however the ferry service is between 7-19.30.

Review 130:Location..stunning... facing the river, the room was tidy, comfortable, spotless, cosy, breakfast nice, staff very friendly. Wifi excellent! We gad dinner in there, fantastic food!

Review 131:We expected a bit of view but wow, having a beer looking down the estuary from the terrace was special. Lovely views also from from our room and the restaurant. The meal we had was excellent and everything seemed just that little bit more reasonable and laid back than on the other side/centre of Fowey

Review 132:Parking an issue. Woken at 6.15am Sunday morning by staff setting up spit roast - not pleased! No car ferry access from Fowey after 7pm.

Review 133:Excellent staff and meals. Historic atmosphere.

Review 134:The room was clean and cosy, and we were able to control the heating ourselves. Unfortunately, we had one of the rooms that had its own shower room across the corridor. We would have preferred en-suite.

Review 135:The staff were wonderful, specially providing a vegetarian menu for me. There were several options for each course, and the quality of the food was superb.

Review 136:nout.

Review 137:I loved the low ceilings in the room. Felt like a borrower! Very cute. Good breakfast, lovely views, nice staff. White sparkly bathroom and soft dressing gowns. Good stuff.
