Reviews for Maison de la Commanderie
Review 1:Location, new furnished and cozy room excellent staff and delicious breakfast. Just mind the stairs if you can not walk or bring your luggage to the 3rd floor.
Review 2:Great location. We stayed in the basic room (ie not suite). Confortable room, however it is a duplex and bathroom is in the first floor. Small window so cannot actually see that much.
Review 3:Excellent excellent! The Host is an incredibly nice person. He has met us at 8 pm at the railway station and was so kind to bring us back the next afternoon. The hotel itself is gorgeous, the view is outstanding and it is right in the middle of Saint Emilion
Review 4:Laurent was really helpful, the view was outstanding, room was spacious and well decorated. View was really really great. Breakfast was good. And the view was spectacular.
Review 5:There was only one small window and the lighting was very atmospheric, so the room always seemed dark. There is no elevator and if people in the room next to you are at all loud, you definitely hear them.
Review 6:The location was very central, just steps to the town center. The staff was very helpful. The room was good size with a sitting area in addition to the bed.
Review 7:Location couldn't be better...right in the middle of St. Emilion. The ambiance is precisely what you would expect from a small B&B that caters to its guests. Proprietor, Laurent, is very personable and his self prepared breakfasts are the best we experienced in Europe over a 30 day stay. We would definitely return.
Review 8:The view from the balcony was the best in St Emillion. One of the best hotels I have stayed at. We had champagne sitting out on our little castle like turret. The decor with the two level rooms were a stunning. The pictures on the website doesn't do it justice. The guy at the reception was very nice.
Review 9:Regretfully, breakfast is extra when you book with booking.com (Free at same price on website)
Review 10:Excellent location. Possible to park for free outside Porte Brunet
Review 11:Parking could obviously be a bit difficult at times, though we had no problem.
Review 12:Excellent location, superbly restored building, great welcome and service - plus an exceptional breakfast!
Review 13:This is a very stylish and beautiful hotel Whilst there we locked ourselves out of our car. The owner was wonderful finding us a garage to come out to us and "break in" to the car without doing any damage to retrieve our keys. Whilst we waited he offered is coffee whilst we sat in the beautiful lounge. We were so grateful and he could not have been more helpful. This hotel is brilliant in every way!
Review 14:The Maison is amazing, perfect located, beautiful building and very nice decoration. The best, the owner, Laurent, so kind and customer oriented. 100% recomendable!!
Review 15:This place is awesome... Nb there's no lift but this was fine
Review 16:Amazing historic property in an unparalleled location overlooking the town. Fantastic modern rooms with luxury finishes.
Review 17:No lift. However the owner was kind enough to carry our heavy luggages.
Review 18:Good access and fantastic view of old town. Beautifuliy furnished clean and tidy room.
Review 19:Wanted to stay longer!
Review 20:Fab quirky room at top of hotel - obviously lots of steps to get such an amazing view Modern Clean Stylish Awesome views Great location central St emilion
Review 21:The hotel in the tower was stunning! Beautiful wiew, and exellent room! The owner served breakfast in the kitchen every morning - it was so nice and cosy The owner was very helpful with everything, and he spoke very well English!
Review 22:This is a quaint, gorgeous property perfectly located in exquisite Saint-Émilion. The proprietor went literally out of his way to make sure we received transport to and from the location of a wine tour on a blazing hot day. He went way beyond what we expected. Bravo! Highest recommendation from this family of travelers.
Review 23:This has to be one of our favourite towns we visited in France and we could not have found a better position or view. I would have been happy to sit at one of the windows & just take it all in. It was one of the only hotels in the heart of the old town. The breakfast Lawrance had supplied was scumptious, cooking from his grandmothers recipe books, which I was lucky to have him share a recipe with me. The rooms were spacious, clean and newly decorated. There was jazz music floating across from the square in the early evening, & the bells chimed in the morn. Loved it, and would highly recommend this to others.
Review 24:Unfortunate issues with check-in. Although we received a complimentary upgrade and some champagne by way of apology, it would really be better if the owner arranged for someone to cover reception if he is delayed.
Review 25:Beautifully refurbished property Location in town Friendliness of owner
Review 26:Excellent location in the village. Host was very friendly and informative. We were given a room upgrade - very spacious & great views over a vineyard & church ruins. Village itself was incredible - one of the highlights of our holiday.
Review 27:Heavy luggage is a problem. Be prepared to climb narrow stairs to room.
Review 28:Very charming hotel that maintains the character of St Emilion. Nice continental breakfast which included fresh juices, boiled eggs, and freshly made croissants and marmalades. So close to everything.
Review 29:Breakfast may disappoint, the owner serves breakfast -generally hot hard boiled eggs some bread and a croisant and ask for cereal. Very basic and expensive.
Review 30:Very high spec. on all rooms (furnishings and fittings), superb shower rooms again fitted out to a very high spec. Everywhere is very very clean and wifi is excellent
Review 31:parking is a little way from the place but not really a problem-only a short walk if you leave car outside the gate to the town and its free
Review 32:central location.lovely room with great views over town, marvellous host who recommended perfect restaurant 'Logis de la Cadene".Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Review 33:It's our first night in France starting our vacation and first ever in St Emilion, M Laurent made us feel very welcome. Our beautiful suite looked over a small vineyard and the property is centrally located in the heart of St Emilion. Our suite has a minibar and an expresso machine, and is modernity and tastefully furnished. Parking is free next door. The town is very charming. All in all a great experience and we can't wait to return next year.
Review 34:I am allergic to cats and there was a cat in the house at breakfasttime. Staff let cat out but yet some health problems later.
Review 35:Good location in a historical place. Nice view, good bed and quiet at night. Food for breakfast was superb.
Review 36:The location couldn't be better. The owner was very nice and helpful. The bfast was definitely worth the money. Granted it's a typical French bfast, but the owner makes a lot of the food from scratch. He's very accommodating to the time you would like to have bfast instead of the other way around. Would definitely stay there again!
Review 37:Owner wasn't there when we arrived - we had to call and wait around for him. He arrived within half and hour of calling. Wi-fi wasn't working. Breakfast not included in room price even though it's online as a B&B
Review 38:Very modern interior, recently done out - very clean. We had the mezzanine room - very comfortable, quiet and dark. The other room our friends had had spectacular views over Saint Emilion.
Review 39:+ Parking is a nightmare in St Emilion! It is not free and the six parking spaces in the proximity are hopeless (i.e. were always full). + The first floor rooms we had (called Suite des Prieurs) was affected by noise from the reception area on the ground floor (radio in the morning and TV in the evening). So, take a different room, if you don't want to wake up at 7.30am and want to go to bed before 12pm.
Review 40:+ Great location in the village + Nice spacious room & bed + Very good breakfast (with home made cake, jams and yogurt)
Review 41:The owner is very kind and gave us very good advices. The rooms are charming, comfortable and clean! Excellent location in the heart of the st emilion. Certainly an excellent value for money
Review 42:The view is unbelievably wonderful - all of old St. Emilion at your window. the host is very genial, and his breakfast delicious, including the omelette, and the home made jams are honestly the best we've ever had - the apricot, fig and watermelon.
Review 43:Having to leave.
Review 44:Laurent made us very welcome and showed us where everything was. No fuss just great information delivered in a friendly way. Our room was amazing with extraordinary views of Saint Emillion. Truly breathtaking. Everything was so clean and fresh. We loved it from the first moment. Breakfast was delicious and there was a lot of it. In one word, it was WONDERFUL.
Review 45:Parking is a challenge and you will definitely know the meaning of the word luggage. There are stairs to climb. But we managed.
Review 46:Our host was wonderful and showed us the place. It was almost newly renovated. So quiet and in a beautiful setting.
Review 47:We were in the upstairs room. A nice duplex with a view, but it had a small window and did not get much sunlight.
Review 48:Amazing hotel, right in the center of St. Emillion. The breakfast was so good that our friends from other hotels joined us on the second day. Clean and modern facilities and very comfortable bed.
Review 49:Obviously a beautiful location and the rooms were so comfortable. Usually we wouldn't stay somewhere so expensive but I struggled to find anywhere cheaper that didn't look scary. However, once we got there I didn't mind at all. It was so comfortable and very easy.
Review 50:That it will be difficult to stay here again when people find out about it because it will be full!
Review 51:Small place (only 5 rooms) with excellent service right in the centre of saint emilion Great views of the town from the rooms. Before we stayed here I read the reviews about the breakfast and it really is amazing! I even bought some of the homemade jams!!! Someone with us was allergic to gluten and they were able to accommodate him.
Review 52:The ambiance of this hotel is lovely. The only thing I would suggest is more lighting in the lounge area and bathroom. Other than that everything was perfect.
Review 53:The room was spacious with a loft bedroom. The decor was beautiful, stylish and quite different to the run of the mill hotels. This boutique hotel is situated in the heart of St Emilion. Breakfast was delicious with homemade jams and fresh croissants amongst other choices. I had a lovely view over the cloisters and the vineyards. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here on my next visit to St Emilion.
Review 54:Difficult to find. Parking very difficult. Meter parking restricted to 3 hrs from 9-19 hrs.
Review 55:The rooms were very clean, well furnished and comfortable. The location was brilliant. Very quiet. Breakfast offered most things.
Review 56:The awful noise from the airconditioning on the roof kept us awake for most of the night. DONT book the commanderie suite.
Review 57:The suite was beautiful but ruined by the Aircon noise at night.
Review 58:Not major point but there is no cup in the bathroom for mouthwash.
Review 59:Young owner was very kind and friendly. His home made pie was excellent! The location was not the center of the town so it's very good and quiet. The bed was very comfort and clean. We loved this B&B and definitely come back here.
Review 60:We were very warmly received by the concierge who took great pride in his hotel, from the balcony to his homemade yogurt at breakfast. The room was meticulously clean, and perfect for our short stay with two young boys. We loved watching the sunset over town from our balcony and hope to return soon.
Review 61:well - Parking is a challenge BUT what else is new in France - its an adventure!
Review 62:Laurent is a terrific host. Loved his breakfasts and conversation time with him in the mornings Helped us organize dinners and Wine Tours. Don't miss staying here
Review 63:The high price ALL French establishments charge for breakfast bugs me. We have stayed at B&B's around the world and have enjoyed very good or excellent breakfasts that were included in the room price.
Review 64:Owner very helpful with recommendations for restaurants, things to see, winery to visit etc. Despite following comments breakfast was excellent.
Review 65:We stayed in the room with a private balcony overlooking the old city and just loved it !! Owner was fantastic and went out of his way to fix an issue with our friends booking that was traveling with us. We Highly recommend staying here and visiting Saint Emilion
Review 66:The tight steps up to the top of the house (no lift). Distant but free parking.
Review 67:The host, Laurent Simon was very friendly and helpful, and provided excellent advice on winery and restaurant visits. The house was located very centrally. Our rooms at the top of the house had a wonderful balcony with views over the town center to the cathedral, clocktower and castle tower
Review 68:We enjoyed the personal touch of staying in a small establishment and also the close proximity to all in the village. The service was personal. Amenities included reliable wifi and a Nespresso. Lots of space in the room.
Review 69:We loved our stay here. The host/owner was amazing and very attentive. The breakfast was great as well. Really can't say enough good things.
Review 70:Dark room due to one small window. The addition of the en-suite gave an odd shape to the room and affected the ambiance. Compared to the Isle de Re this was an expensive room. Often there was no one available to help or assist.
Review 71:Interior decoration.
Review 72:The only thing I didn't like is that we had to leave. I was really bummed we only booked one night. The host offered breakfast in the common room but we never got a chance to join him.
Review 73:We traveled throughout Europe for 2 weeks staying at a mix of 4/5 stars hotels and unique boutique hotels and this was the best by far. The room was spacious and comfortable and had everything we could have asked for - coffee maker, comfy bed, great water pressure and really hot water, excellent wi-fi, speaker doc for my iphone, outstanding views.
Review 74:Parking right outside the hotel is free at night but quite expensive during the day at €2 per hour. Free daytime parking is about 5 minute walk from the hotel, so only a minor inconvenience.
Review 75:Perfect location in this beautiful town. Excellent rooms and very comfortable bed. The photos on the website look good they don't do justice to the stylish and tasteful decoration of the rooms. Loved the apartment feel, this is much more than just bed & breakfast.
Review 76:Nothing
Review 77:Owner has a personal touch not seen for a long time and he went that exstra bit to personally drive us from and to the station when we arrived stranded. Great breakfast and owner also orginized a good private wine tour.
Review 78:Wake up to home made jams, yoghurt, croissants etc. Laurent couldn't have been more helpful. He recommended the best restaurant to eat in and I had the best meal of my whole trip. He also recommended a great wine shop out of 60 of them and I received a 20% discount. A fantastic experience
Review 79:Room was dark. No English channels on the TV in room. No parking provided by the hotel; paid parking close by or have park your car on the outskirts of the town. Walls of the rooms seem really thin so can hear others in the hotel and wooden floors add to the noise. Have to prearrange to visit the wineries for tastings by calling up yourself as the Tourist Office will not do so. English tours of the cathedral and the caves below only on weekends. Food in village average.
Review 80:Décor quite modern and eclectic. Spacious rooms, well appointed. AC works well as does the wifi. Breakfasts good and can have omelette etc which is great. Choose a room overlooking the town.
Review 81:The hotel was right in the centre of town so all restaurants etc in walking distance. Our host couldn't do enough to help. Very nice place to stay.
Review 82:Nothing.
Review 83:Lovely room, spacious and clean. comfy bed and nice bedding, good shower. Efficient quiet aircon.Very helpful owner, recommended and booked restaurant for us which was really nice. Very good breakfast with homemade everything. Location of hotel is excellent right in the heart of St Emilion and with car parking (public and payable during the day) right on the doorstep. St Emilion is fabulous.
Review 84:The owner, Laurence operates this charming B & B with a personal courteous touch. His breakfast includes home made breads and yogurts and delicious handmade jams and cheese from the region. A wonderful experience.
Review 85:Owner/operator very friendly and helpful. Clean, comfortable, spacious (for Europe), well maintained rooms. Convenient location, niceview. Free parking 5 minutes away. Good breakfast. Highly recommended.
Review 86:None
Review 87:The hotel is in the best location of town, has the great view. The owner is so friendly, he gave us many useful tips, also upgrade our room. The most unforgetable thing is that he helped us to take back the lost cell phone, that's why we visited this beautiful twon twice in three days. Saint-Emilion,nice people, beautiful place, excellent wine, we will be back some day.
Review 88:That we only stayed for one night
Review 89:Perfect location, beautiful rooms with large comfortable beds and air conditioning. Great views and although the website photos look good they don't do justice to the stylish and tasteful decoration of the rooms. Highly recommend and the host will point you to fantastic local dining.
Review 90:The location and the breakfast in the morning
Review 91:Beautiful location takes you back in time
Review 92:Very friendly reception, and an offer immediately to upgrade to a larger suite. Excellent location.

Review 108:I was stunned by the beauty of the view. It was incredible to sit on the ramparts and drink my morning coffee.
Review 109:The room was huge and the views were even more amazing.
Review 110:We were at the top of the house, which was OK - but a lot of stairs!
Review 111:The breakfast was phenomenal!
