Reviews for Hotel du Soleil et Spa
Review 1:As other reviewers have stated, this is not a typical spa hotel. The room was rather Spartan, no coffee maker, no refrigerator, nothing really special.
Review 2:Great location, good value for the price.
Review 3:All good. Access route a little tight but manageable.
Review 4:Very welcoming. Great rooms, spacious and tastefully renovated. Private parking. Very central, good location.
Review 5:Delightful setting in the heart of St Remy. Lovely, helpful staff and an immaculate room in simple, elegant French style, plus a great price. Perfect for our needs.
Review 6:We booked a superior double hotel room in a very attractive old building with a year round pool which were presumed meant at least a little heated. The pool was not heated and we were told by the very forthright girl at the desk it was freezing. We were brought to a long narrow ground floor apartment at the entrance to the hotel and car park, dark on a bright sunny late afternoon with two huge noisy ventilators in the courtyard outside the sitting room window and further machine noise behind a locked door in the bedroom. The window opened directly onto a road. It was like a long corridor on the side of the road, there was no comfort. All very clinical like the spa it also is. The interior of the building was all hard surfaces and you could hear everything from the hallway. When we asked for another room and said it was not what we booked the girl said there was nothing else available and she did not entertain any discussion and went on about her business. We tried to relax in the place but it was impossible and we wound up abandoning the hotel and paying for a room elsewhere. The reception closed at 6 and there was no one there after that so there was no possibility of handing back the key that evening after finding alternative accommodation nearby and looking a refund, or allowing them to re rent the apartment to someone else. The development does not look like it does on the website, it is densely developed internally with unattractive modern buildings
Review 7:The location was good and the hotel probably was if you got what you booked
Review 8:Room decor was a bit stark although very well maintained and had all appropriate amenities. Bathroom was tight in a comfort room (almost the size of a closet but certainly livable). Modern and clean.
Review 9:Location, convenient, everything you could want/need for amenities, clean, good breakfast for the money. Excellent value. Private, on-site parking.
Review 10:I was a bit disappointed that the spa facilities were not included in the price, but maybe I didn't read properly the information given before the booking.
Review 11:Lovely decoration, friendly staff, delicious breakfast, beautiful and charming property.
Review 12:Would have liked another armchair in the room but this was October so I expect that at other times in the year we would have sat outside.
Review 13:The location was very good near the town centre. The wifi &the breakfast was also good
Review 14:Wonderful location. Helpful staff. Bedroom little small but great bathroom. Fabulous grounds Would recommemend this to our friends. We enjoyed our stay
Review 15:The location in St. Remy is fine. Walking distance to the "downtown" area and all its many restaurants. Also central for day trips by car to Orange, Nimes, Avignon, Chateauneuf de Pape, etc.
Review 16:Bathroom facilities truly tiny.
Review 17:Location and plentiful parking made this a great place to stay. Private courtyard made it very quiet; good breakfast buffet.
Review 18:Our host was helpful in providing suggestions for dinner in town, sights to visit, detours to take while driving (there was a festival going on while we were there).
Review 19:Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and quiet, modern exterior and interior, very comfortable be and quiet room. Great shower. Very convenient for St Remy main town and good bike parking.
Review 20:Good size room with a very nice shower. Great location with easy walk to the center of town with a good choice of restaurants. Plenty of parking on the property.
Review 21:The restaurant is fabulous-5 stars. The hotel room was simple clean and comfy with a beautiful view of the Dordogne. We visited in September after the high season. Perhaps it would be noisier in the summer with excited canoers going by all day.
Review 22:The 32 steps on the circular staircase lumping heavy staircases (no lift).
Review 23:The friendly and helpful staff members, the spaciousness of the room, the views and location plus the relaxed atmosphere of this lovely hotel in Saint-Remy. Many guests we spoke to are repeat customers.
Review 24:The pool patio would be a perfect spot for dinner. Its wonderful for breakfast but dinner by a lighted pool would be an improvement. The age of the bldgs preclude elevators without the loss of a revenue producing room.
Review 25:Reception was friendly and very efficient. We had a top floor room view of a beautiful sunset view of the hills surrounding St. Remy. Walking distance to the village restaurants and weekly Wednesday market. Nice quiet pool. Fab breakfast with mortadella and chocolate croissants.
Review 26:There is no elevator but we had no more than three short flights of stairs to scale!
Review 27:Beautifully refurbished 500 yr old buildings with all modern comforts. Fabulous Provence sunset view. Walking distance to village restaurants and a must-do Wednesday, weekly market. Quiet small pool. Fab breakfast included mortadella and chocolate croissants. Yum! Spacious room. Comfortable bath.
Review 28:This location is perfect for some days in St. Remy. It is a quiet two block walk to the bustling historic 'ring' and a half-block from the Tourist Office. St. Remy is great locale from which to visit the Luberon Mtns, Avignon and Arles, Les Baux.
Review 29:Leaving
Review 30:Beautifully restored buildings in a tranquil setting close to the centre of St Remy. There was a mix of old and new both inside and out which worked really well.
Review 31:Parking a bit tricky with a big car, small road to manoeuvre and often not enough spaces available. Road that you have to walk down to get to main road is poorly lit and badly surfaced so can be difficult walking back after an evening out. Pool closes at 8 which is fine but that also means bar/ snacks stop then also and the reception closes - would be nice to return to hotel in the evening and have a glass of wine on the patio but not an option unless you get a bottle and some glasses from the shop down the road.
Review 32:Comfortable and clean rooms, staff friendly and helpful
Review 33:Perfect location in San Remy. Doris is a wonderful in her words "receptionist" She was more than that and did a great job running the hotel. The spa was very nice.
Review 34:Unfriendly staff at desk, not a great welcome bearing in mind we were there on honeymoon. Refused a bottle opener on request. Cleaning staff would arrive early each morning and be hovering outside, move our things in the bathroom and dump still wet swimwear that we'd hung up to dry onto an open suitcase with dry clothes inside. Despite this bedsheets weren't changed. Complained but lady at desk just shrugged and pouted
Review 35:Clean hotel and well located for centre of town. Nice pool area.
Review 36:The hotel staff isn't available after 730pm and locks the gate after 10 pm. The dusty gravel throughout the property makes wearing sandals problematic. My facial treatment was great but the shower had no soap, the jacuzzi was being serviced, so I couldn't enjoy a steam or jacuzzi! No elevator for the third floor rooms BTW!
Review 37:The room we were in was a little noisy in the morning because of the tile hallway outside the room..I am sure there are other rooms that would not be so noisy
Review 38:Love the feel and atmosphere..very relaxing.Bed was very comfortable.
Review 39:Staff could smile a little bit (more), problems with selected booking category (double room via booking for 2 persons and one infant was not suitable) forced us to book a higher booking category (superior room) for additional charges, sleeping room located to the street (noisy)
Review 40:Nice location in walking distance to St Remy, own parking on site, breakfast in the garden very pleasant, wellness treatment exceptional
Review 41:Great location for visiting Saint Remy but a short five minute walk away from the hustle and bustle of the town itself in a peaceful location. Good bus service for visiting surrounding areas. Staff at hotel very welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 42:It was high season. Nothing that this lovely property could do about that
Review 43:Beautiful hotel that seemed to be tucked away, but moments from downtown if walking
Review 44:Great location for centre and on the Van Gogh's walk - only 15 minutes walk up the hill to his hospital facility and 4 euros pp to enter, worth a visit if interested in art or psychology. Never had breakfast but everything looked fresh and facilities were spotless. Room was comfortable and shower was excellent-just what you need when on a road trip! Wish we had planned to stay longer, would definately go back. 10/10 - thanks!
Review 45:Room no 30 was positioned in between 2 parking areas and the bedroom backed onto a road . If you wanted to sit on the 2 chairs outside in front of the room you looked onto parked cars . When you came out of the shower the window opposite the door looked onto the car park at the rear and with no curtains anyone parking could look straight in ! We did ask for another room when we booked in but were told nothing was available and even though we were there 3 nights they did not offer to move us at a later date .On one occasion we decided to have a snack outside but because of the cars being parked in front of us we tried to use the outdoor seating area they used for breakfasts and were told ' No food here' in a very rude manner . The staff were very unfriendly and the breakfast was not worth the 10 euros they charged ( try in town where it is much better and cheaper ) . When checking out they did not have the courtesy to ask if everything had been ok . I would not stay here again !
Review 46:The town is great but a shame about the room and staff !
Review 47:The rooms were painted beige and had no pictures or other decorative touches, which was disappointing for such a nice property
Review 48:The grounds and the pool
Review 49:It's very charming, serene and soooo Provençal ! It is in 3 renovated old stone mas with all the charm plus modern conveniences like AC, TV and wi-fi. Have a glass of wine by the pool... You'll never want to leave.
Review 50:We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel du Soliel. The rooms and hotel itself were very clean, quiet, the bathrooms were lovely, and all very nicely designed/decorated. The air conditioning in the room was very much appreciated in the heat! We had a standard room, and felt this was more than enough room for our belongings/suitcase and came with a comfortable bed (if you have multiple pieces of large luggage and need space, then maybe book a larger room). The staff were all very nice, and helpful if you needed anything. The pool area was great and peaceful for hot afternoons, very clean, with a nice selection of snacks and drinks you could order, which were all very well priced. The hotel itself is less than a 5 minute walk to St Remy centre, which was a plus having a break from the tourists, and very close to Saint Paul de Mausole. We would definitely stay again for our next time in St Remy.
Review 51:The hotel has a good location (although don't be put off by the narrow street leading to it). its just 3-4 minutes walk to the main area of town and restaurants. Our room was not large, although the bathroom was spacious, but was modern, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was buffet and good, having a good selection of items to choose from.
Review 52:We were double booked from booking .com as we changed our booking online from room to apartment. We were double charged by very severe proprietor. This was disappointing.
Review 53:The place was fin
Review 54:Room was given on 1st Floor with reason we do not hv room on ground Floor. We felt cheated & you have charged more. On last night we got room on GF
Review 55:We have nothing to complain about or anything we did not like. The parking was a little limited. It was tight when we first arrived, but didn't have any problems during the next two days we stayed there.
Review 56:Our room was very nicely appointed. The air conditioner had a remote and it worked very well. The bed was comfortable. The location was awesome, just a short walk to the main part of town.
Review 57:Having to go home!
Review 58:Everything was wonderful. The location, our room, the facilities, the contemporary styling and decor, cleanliness, the very courteous and helpful staff, the relaxed atmosphere and the pool. A wonderful escape.
Review 59:It was advertised as breakfast included, but then when I paid, it said it didn't include meals. So we did get charged for the breakfast. I was disappointed that it wasn't clear.
Review 60:Convenient location.
Review 61:Nothing to complain about, however tea/coffee-making facilities would be a welcome addition to each room (electric jug, cups/mugs, teabags, etc)
Review 62:Great location in a beautiful village - so handy to town yet tucked away privately. Lovely buildings and set-up, comfortable, decent-sized rooms (with very good bathroom), helpful staff. Just wish we had more time here!
Review 63:Very small rooms. No English news.
Review 64:This hotel is located very close and within walking distance to the center of St. Remy. It is a pretty, well maintained hotel. We had a standard room that was about 2/3 the size that would have made it comfortable. We stayed 5 nights, and it became a little closed in. We had very little contact with any staff except checking in and out.
Review 65:Our only real complaint is that when we wanted ice to chill a bottle of wine we had bought from a local winery the proprietor said no and pretty much insisted we buy their wine instead...
Review 66:Location was great, just a short walk into town.. Nice oasis. We have stayed at at least 5 other hotels here and this one was roomier and more pleasant than most.
Review 67:It wasn't a "bad experience," it just was, was it was... we bought a nice bottle of wine thinking we could enjoy a glass before walking into town for dinner, but we did not have a corkscrew. I asked our Hostess if I could borrow one, but was told they did not have one. However I was "sold" a half a carafe of wine. The wine refrigerator was stocked and they obviously had a corkscrew! I get it, but think it was a little cheeky.
Review 68:The Hotel du Soleil et Spa is beautiful, centrally located and feels like a small traditional French Country Inn. The grounds are well kept and beautiful and be sure to have breakfast out by the pool!
Review 69:Nobody from personnel was presented during evening and night time. For apartments it is usial, but for such hotel? We could not have possibility to ask somebody to give us bottle opener.
Review 70:Excellent location, just near clinic where Van Gogh worked, nice yard inside, cleanliness everywhere, friendly person on reception.
Review 71:No bad experiences particularly, however, I feel that a bar would be beneficial and also an active extraction rather than passive ventilation in the walk-in shower would be more comfortable
Review 72:Brilliant room, comfortable bed, very helpful staff, very clean envirinment.
Review 73:Only downside is that reception closes at 8 pm - it would have been good on a warm spring/summers evening to come back for a drink and relax in the garden
Review 74:The hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard. Good swimming pool with plenty of seating. The hotel has a spa but cannot comment on this as did not use
Review 75:The welcome was a little 'cool' to start with but improved.
Review 76:Outstanding facilities. Great well appointed room and comfy bed. 2 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Great central location to work from to visit neighboring towns and attractions. Good wifi. Pool. Plenty of room for parking plus area is secured by pin activated gates overnight.
Review 77:A great place to kick off our stay in Provence. Easy walk into the centre of town. A couple of minutes to the monastery where Van Gogh painted so many masterpieces.
Review 78:As the reception was closed from 8 pm we had no access to a very nice lobby that was locked. So there was no place to sit after coming back from dinner in town.
Review 79:Good location, helpfull staff comfortable rooms.
Review 80:The only issue we encountered was that the actual spa services were booked for the entire weekend!
Review 81:This is one of the best hotels we've stayed at in all of Europe, considering cost and quality. Not only is the quality of the rooms high, but the design and style of the rooms and dining area is very elegant, sophisticated, and makes you feel like you're definitely in a spa hotel! The beds were very comfortable, and the shower and bathroom had a very modern but cozy stone design. We plan on staying here again!
Review 82:The manager's manner was luke warm.
Review 83:The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in, the shower was fabulous and the hotel's location is extremely convenient to the town, the Van Gogh information trail and the ancient Roman ruins of Glanum.
Review 84:A short walk to the town so could leave the car parked inside the grounds. Friendly and obliging staff; breakfast simple but very good. We will come back for sure.
Review 85:Personal at the reception were rude and unfriendly without any clear reason for that. They seemed to dispise us from the very first second. The room is tiny with a bad smell from the toilet. A piece of the soap in the bathroom was used before as it seemed many times. The isolation between rooms is poor. We could hear everything what was happening in the corridor as well as noises of shower and toilets coming from the rooms next to ours and above. At check out we found out that we had to pay additional 10 eu for the bed of the baby. We were not informed of that before! The hotel is higly overpriced. But what is worse it leaves a feeling of a spoiled weekend.
Review 86:We put a lot of efforts to find a good hotel as we were traveling with a baby. We have chosen this one because we were mislead by a high mark on the booking.com and pictures. This hotel is a huge disappointment!!!
Review 87:Wifi did not work in room; the room did not look as "Provencale" as in the photos.
Review 88:The location was good and the included continental breakfast was above average. The room was well-appointed but not cosy. The bathroom and separate toilet were very good.
Review 89:We felt like we were putting the staff out on the front desk, when we asked questions - particularly when we asked for another bar of soap - we stayed 7 days, and only received one small bar and it ran out after 4 days. You can hear people walking down the hall through the door to our room. Rooms are small - estimating about 20 sq meters
Review 90:8 min walk into St. Remy Renovated buildings, beautiful decorations
Review 91:The welcome from Madame was not good. She did not show us the apartment, just opened the door and said the bedroom and shower are upstairs and did not show us how things in the kitchen worked, nor were there any written instructions. The breakfast was fresh on Sunday, but by Wednesday the same meat and cheese were curled up, when fresh should have been provided.
Review 92:The cleaning staff were very efficient and pleasant. The apartment was well equipped, but see 'what you didn't like'.
Review 93:The only thing I did not like was that we had to leave!
Review 94:This hotel has a beautiful setting! Gorgeous pool, spa and breakfast area. Staff spoke English and were very welcoming. Lovely stone buildings with shutters. Gated !! with parking. A block from town and restaurants. We had an apartment with a kitchen and patio. All recently updated and modern, with touches of old Provence. Had a gorgeous antique hutch in kitchen and entryway.Bath and kitchen(fully stocked, dishwasher) were lovely. Beds comfortable. Lots of storage. Grocery a block away. Air conditioned. We used this hotel as our base for seeing Provence. It was perfect location to venture out in all directions.
Review 95:The hotel staff members were incredibly unfriendly. In fact, they almost seemed to resent us for some unknown reason.
Review 96:St. Remy is a wonderful town and the hotel was close to everything.
Review 97:I've stayed for one night. The personel was polite, room was big, strong wi-fi. Location - 5 min walk to the center. Did not have breakfast. Receptions is open till 8pm. Free parking
Review 98:Our one bed apartment located in the historic buildings was very comfortable and loaded with character. The kitchen was well equipped which enabled us to shop for French treats and enjoy them in our apartment.
Review 99:We had a really unpleasant stay at this hotel. I agree with other reviewers that the rooms are spacious and clean. However, there is no sound-proofing. Our first room was on the first floor, and we could hear it every time anyone entered or exited the building. We could also hear the interminable clacking of a person in high heels walking around the room above us. The pool is tiny and the "bar" only offered a couple of wines by the glass - most by the bottle, and overpriced anyway. The staff was rude, as were the hotel guests. I was surprised that several guests blatantly glared at us whenever we walked by. We are a young female couple and felt very uncomfortable there. I would not recommend this hotel to GLBT travelers.
Review 100:The hotel was walkable to St. Remy restaurants.
Review 101:Room was a little small and no tea/ coffee making facilities or fridge.
Review 102:Very good location, close to St Paul where Vincent Van Gogh spent his last years and Glanum (Roman site). Breakfast very good value and good choice on buffet. Sophisticated decor in room and in breakfast area. Quiet, good security and free parking and Wi-fi. Very well managed hotel.
Review 103:the breakfast buffet was 10 euros for pretty good continental. I think value for money but some may want more?
Review 104:great location, rooms very comfortable, nice small pool, very well kept, good value for money and very charming. Would definitely go back.
Review 105:Poor soundproofing in our building Surly front-of-house staff
Review 106:Location Cleanliness On-site parking Walled, treed setting Spacious room in character building Stylish, understated decor Breakfast - substantial with good variety
Review 107:Unfortunately the room did not have enough storage space. It all looked very pleasant, but there were no drawers of suitable size for clothes. The table in the room was along a wall big enough to take 2 sets of drawers and a minibar and the wardrobe needed to have enough space to hang clothes instead of having 2 safes (1 is surely sufficient) and a bed cover. The breakfast was overpriced compared with those we had even in an Ibis hotel we has just come from - not as good quality either.
Review 108:The hotel has been beautifully renovated and is a visionary delight. Parking is quite good although the access road can be made a little narrow through parked cars. There is a pleasant breakfast room with outside facilities. Bed was comfortable and we slept well.
Review 109:We had a 3 room apartment so we had breakfast and evening meals in our room. A short 5 minute walk into town. A market within 2 blocks. We stayed for 4 nights and did day trips in Provence. The grounds were clean and nice. The gate was closed at night, but a password was given if you needed to enter the gate.
Review 110:There was a sharp step from the bedroom to the bathroom, causing many astubbed toe (particularly in darkness at night!). The hotel providedonly one small soap, one shampoo and one shower gel. None were replaced(a very mean hotel this!). Most of the staff were friendly and helpful -but the principal (morning) receptionist was very much the opposite.(She unfortunately appeared in a number of reviews which we read priorto leaving for Provence!)
Review 111:Room was described as "superior" and was spacious. Hotel wasvery well located, at the edge of town, but only 4 or 5 minutes walkdown to the old town centre. Breakfast was adequate (although not cheapat 10 Euros) and we liked the pool (although it was really only a plungepool). Car parking facilities were fine.
Review 112:No complaints.
Review 113:The grounds are very pretty and week kept. Staff made several good recommendations for dinner. Pool made for a refreshing stop after touring. Location could' tube better. Easy stroll into town. free parking was a big plus. Easy in and out of town.
Review 114:What not to like... No children bring loud, very small and quaint, great location, rooms are lovely, the spa is an added bonus! It's exactly where you want to be as it's 2minure walk to the centre on the one way system so no noise, adequate parking. Stay!
Review 115:Staff not very friendly.m seems to be common way in France!! Not too disturbing though. Need to put soap in bathrooms rather than have us request these teensy bars each time from reception.
Review 116:I liked the breakfast, swimming in the pool to relax in the lovely courtyard after a day of touring towns in Provence. Place has breed lovingly renovated in simple, but soothing contemporary style inside which compliments the very old stone farm house it resides in. Plenty of space to hang laundry & free parking. No problem with parking! Very central. Definitely recommend & would love to stay in again.
Review 117:In all the hotel was very quiet. But we unfortunately had a young french couple in the room next to ours, who came back after midnight having a huge row. She was screaming and crying out in the corridor with lights on. Corridor noise is not good. But I guess we were just unlucky. Second night was quiet as a mouse!!
Review 118:Great location for access to the town. Great restaurants and bars. Large comfy bed. beautifully decorated. Lovely big shower. We had a room at the back with a window out onto a road but was very quiet once shutters were closed. Very quiet location. Small pool but very nice and clean.
Review 119:Staff were efficient but not necessarily friendly or welcoming.
Review 120:Hotel du Soleil is perfectly located in lovely Saint Remy de Provence and is an excellent base for exploring this region. We stayed five nights. Our room was very spacious, airy and clean; linen was new and crisp and the bed comfortable. There is a pool and outdoor eating area in a pleasant garden and importantly there is ample parking. Breakfasts were one of the best we have had in our travels.
Review 121:no gym, no ironing service
Review 122:decor, atmosphere, proximity from city center, clealiness, spacious rooms, amazing breakfast, private car park, italian style bathroom
Review 123:Nothing.
Review 124:A warm welcome from English speaking staff. We had a lovely room, a comfortable bed, all very clean and of good quality. The location is excellent, in the centre of town, while car parking facilities are ample. The air conditioning was most welcome!
Review 125:Breakfast not included in room price
Review 126:Lovely light airy room with large well appointed bathroom. Swimming pool Good breakfast Plenty of parking Tranquility
Review 127:A really excellent value combined with a terrific location for a visit to Provence. Our room had ample amenities and very comfortable. Really enjoyed using the pool after a day of sightseeing. A very welcome surprise.
