Reviews for Chateau De Roussan
Review 1:The traditional uniforms worn by the staff didn't quite work for me.
Review 2:Staff were friendly and helpful. Very accommodating with my gluten free dietary requirements.
Review 3:Breakfast needs to be better. It takes some time to refresh the empty plates on the buffet but once you told to personelle they help you immediately.
Review 4:Location was perfect. Very close to St. Remy city center but still very quiet and calm. Definitely need a car because at night it is impossible to walk in that dark but day time it is only 15 min. walk to city center. And during those walks you are able to see and smell all that fresh country air and experience the scenery
Review 5:Dinner was slightly over-priced.
Review 6:Beautiful well-kept building, really helpful staff, serene and breathtaking surroundings, wonderful views from the window/door.
Review 7:We never wanted to leave the beautiful property with allees of magnificent plane trees. Our room, as well as the public areas, was exquisite. The property is small, exclusive and retains the feel of a private estate. It was an honor and privilege to stay there.
Review 8:But the decor is a bit shabby, and they don't have the staff to maintain it to first class standards. The place seems a bit haunted and vacant, and is quite a ways out of town, if that matters to you.
Review 9:Grand historical chateau and gardens, nice bathrooms.
Review 10:Actually, there wasn't anything about the place we didn't like. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
Review 11:It's a lovely chateau, and it's located very close to town. Consequently, you're staying in a very quiet, peaceful location, but in only a few minutes, you can have all the excitement/nightlife you want. The staff is great. They could not be more helpful.
Review 12:A lot of misrepresentation from what was presented on Booking.com. Firstly, there was no 24hrs front desk. Hence, our party has to leave early for the next destination without breakfast as there was no reception. Secondly, no porter service as the parking is at least 100m away from the rooms. Thirdly, there was no wifi in the room and only at designated places. It is not worth the price. Fourthly, do not bother to dine at the restaurant as the food is very mediocre. Worth service with such a price for this trip.
Review 13:The elegance of the building and surroundings. The only saving grace of this accommodation.
Review 14:We would have appreciated a swimming pool during this 39 Celsius festival.
Review 15:The staff was perfect. The gardens made us fell like in heaven. The spirit of the place was charming.
Review 16:Didnt have a bad experience, just felt was way overpriced by comparison to other places we have chosen. And the signage for actual entry was obscure.
Review 17:The bldg and setting were just wonderful. Although they need to spend money on outside maintenance.
Review 18:It's a pity nobody could tell what the history of this place is. When we asked we just got a brochure, which did not provide any significant information. Dinner in front of the beautifully illuminated building was disappointing and so was breakfast next morning.
Review 19:Beautiful place in quite environment, great atmosphere, airconditioned rooms, nice people.
Review 20:The staff was as warm and welcoming as the clear light of the Provencal sun. The rooms were spotless, dinners were delicious. This was our favorite spot. We'll make it our center for future Provence adventures. Thank you.
Review 21:Unfriendly. Extremely pretentious. No wifi in bedroom. No bath mat. Tabs on dressing gowns hanging off. No full length mirror.
Review 22:The room was comfortable.
Review 23:breakfast very disapointing than expected i asked booking taxi twice but every time the staff forget it service education need to be the staff
Review 24:lovely and beautiful garden and building and structure. calm and fresh air with forest peaceful
Review 25:The breakfast staff are inefficient & unfriendly We came here often before it was renovated. Although some may have considered it a bit dilapidated before, it had more character than today. It's now a cold, modern hotel, with nothing special about the rooms. Downstairs still has character.
Review 26:the bed was comfortable & the site is beautiful, although they should take better care of the garden.
Review 27:The day we arrived it was suggested that we make a reservation for dinner which we did. However it was very apparent that they had a large and boisterous group in for dinner and we were then move to the breakfast room and in all honesty he it was a bit of a disaster. It was noisy and the food was not up to the standards that we would've expected. Given that they had such a large party in the dining room they should have suggested that we dine with them the next night.
Review 28:Loved the property. The room was lovely. And it had great ambience. The front desk staff were very accommodating although, personal hygiene could've been better.
Review 29:We stayed only one night as a respite from traveling to one destination after another. Spent most of the day on the grounds and could have stayed a week. Very, very nice.
Review 30:Seemed understaffed. The staff were great but struggling especially at meal times. Half the items on menu had run out. Gardens needed time and energy as did the buildings
Review 31:Amazing building. Lovely staff. Very large suite with remarkable furnishings
Review 32:Please be forewarned that the real conditions of this hotel are seriously far from what the hotel displays on web sites. In 2015 the hotel will be surveyed by the Office of Tourism of France and we believe that this hotel needs to be seriously downgraded.
Review 33:Nothing.
Review 34:This was our second visit as we liked the place so much last time and wre prepared to overlook the shortcomings which on a second visit were a bit more irritating: -the breakfasts are boring and repetative, there seemed to be a reluctance to provide the cooked option, probably due to there being minimal staff in the mornings. -for the price, the rooms are quite stark, poorly lit and provide few extras that might be expected for the price-no water bottles etc
Review 35:The building and surrounds. We had problems with airlines and the staff, Rafael in paricular were very helpful.
Review 36:- The Chateau seemed rundown and dark, with the grass not mowed the grounds appeared unkempt, the greenhouse had broken glass and plants not cared for. - Though the staff were completely pleasant, we were simply handed our room key with no explanation or tour of the facilities. When asked about the history behind the Chateau the answer was brief and uneventful. -Chateau Roussan has wonderful potential that we hope gets realized one day.
Review 37:- We loved the website images, architecture, grounds and history behind the Chateau. We were incredibly excited anticipating our stay!
Review 38:It was beautiful. We are were disappointed we did not have more time to enjoy the Chateau as it was a last minute decision the day before we were leaving. Even though we were only there a few hours we felt so much more relaxed. It was incredibly charming. The price was much more fair than the Julius Ceasar, which was so expensive, small, and falling apart despite being just redone.
Review 39:We ate there both nights and we were a bit disappointed by the quality of food the first night.
Review 40:The lovely park, and the very comfortable room as well as the nice ambience of the historic building. The staff were very helpful and courteous
Review 41:It was all great! It's a bit hard to find, about 1 1/2 miles out of town. You'd want a car.
Review 42:We liked everything about it and would definitely recommend. An old chateau, nicely updated.Big rooms.Huge property.Excellent dinner and breakfast.Very helpful staff.
Review 43:Although the scale and overall ambiance were striking and captivating, the detail planting and maintenance of perimeter grounds including ponds and historic greenhouse were sadly disappointing. Improvements would greatly enhance the visiting/ walking experience on this 10 acre site...
Review 44:One of the most stately yet charming and romantic places visited in St Remy during 8 day stay. 16/18th century Chateau and farm buildings beautifully preserved inside and out--room and services exceptional. Stayed 2 days-dinners extraordinary--better than the previous 6 days on a "foodie" tour.
Review 45:I think there are other hotels in the area that are better value. We switched to the Villa Glanum after two nights for that reason and consider it a sleeper. It is lovely and equally quiet (except for their charming donkey who brays occasionally :) Our terrace bastide had very roomy bathroom with tub (same as at Roussan) but also the Hotel has a wonderful large terrace and swimming pool with lounge chairs. At Villa Glanum we got a room with a little private garden terrace and spent hours sunning by the pool for about 100 Euros less per day than Roussan .Breakfast was included and at least as nice as the one at Chateau Roussan. Only negative about Villa Glanum were flies on outside dining terrace of their restaurant. Eat inside.
Review 46:large terraces with comfortable furniture also reading room big rooms with high ceilings staff in period costume were a nice touch. Reception staff spoke little English but waiter in dining room did speak English. This if fine with me because I can understand French but might make others struggle a bit. Staff very helpful and friendly anyway.Diningroom dinner only OK
Review 47:It included breakfast, which was lovely. Helpful staff. We were upgraded to a Jr. Suite, which was a nice surprise! Very spacious.
Review 48:Setting beautiful, spacious room
Review 49:Nice location.
Review 50:Wonderfully peaceful with beautiful gardens.
Review 51:Breakfast does not have many varieties, and the boiled eggs are cold
Review 52:The location and the greenfield surrounded. The staff are also very helpful.
Review 53:Peace and tranquillity of the countryside
Review 54:The sound proof was not very well
Review 55:Beautiful garden, very nice decorated room (Le cerf); WiFi Works.
Review 56:Location, staff, restaurant, decor, character, grounds...everything!!
Review 57:A wonderful place. Walking distance to Saint-Remy. Very beautiful garden.
Review 58:Wimfi too slow
Review 59:The sycamores
Review 60:Wi-Fi went down and no one could sort it out.
Review 61:Authentic and spacious
Review 62:Menu at restaurant was out of date (a fall menu in the spring) very limited therefore.
Review 63:the grounds of the Chateau are beautiful.
Review 64:Everything was just perfect
Review 65:Room was cold and a bit too dark
Review 66:Very beautiful setting, very calm place
Review 67:Limited choice for demi-pension dinner and boeuf overcooked. Otherwise an enjoyable sejour.
Review 68:Restaurant, essen zu lahm, Beschreibung in der karte entspricht nicht der Realität.
Review 69:Receptionistin Eveline! Alles, park, ambiente, empfang!
Review 70:Everything especially the staff.
Review 71:None
Review 72:Hotel chateaux with reasonable price for high season Beautiful garden and overall atmosphere suit for couples and chateaux lover
Review 73:nothing
Review 74:Beautiful estate setting. Wonderful breakfast and dinner. very close to town yet quiet and country setting.
Review 75:Outstanding. Will return.
Review 76:Liked it all, nothing we didn't like.
Review 77:Wonderful, wonderful Chateau with beautiful rooms and surroundings. So relaxing and peaceful that we did not mind spending down time there. Just outside of St Remy and was a perfect base for day trips in the area. Could not have been happier with the accomodations.
Review 78:The location and size of the property provided an exceptionally private and quiet stay. This property has been owned by the same family for over 250 years. Gave us the feeling we were Lord and Lady of the Manor.
Review 79:The terrors of the 40-50 knot gusting mistral
Review 80:Wonderful old chateau in quite good condition with extensive gardens and grounds featuring a listed 18th century greenhouse and an ornamental pond with statuettes. Very grand.
Review 81:The place is poorly maintained. The "garden" is an overgrown field of weeds. The exterior is in bad need of a coat of paint. The bathrooms are new and clean but we were plagued by the overpowering smell of sewer gas in the halls and bathroom. This place saw it's "best by" date a long time ago.
Review 82:The location is close to the village and main tourist sites. The chateau has a certain "faded elegance"
Review 83:Restaurant was very good -but overpriced.
Review 84:Very lovely chateau. Beautiful grounds. Peaceful and quiet just outside of St Remy. Perfect base for day trips in the area.
Review 85:As it was only March, we weren't bothered by the absence of a pool, but in summer in Provence one would want to cool off and have a swim.
Review 86:Beautiful old chateau, romantically overgrown park, very good food and charming service made this a wonderful and very relaxing stay. Loved our room which opened to the courtyard and had a huge bathroom. After a beautiful dinner no need to drive anymore, only steps to our room. This was a perfect out of season stay. Had no problem with wifi in the room, but tried to stay off line - this is a place to unwind and have time together.
Review 87:Breakfast was extremely limited and poorly served. Wifi set up very complicated and with too many codes for each electronic device. Too many pointless letters issued - a waste of paper. The service upon leaving was not as good as the reception.
Review 88:The buildings. The reception was good and welcoming.
Review 89:Our room was cramped and uncomfortable, with furniture chosen for antique style rather than convenience. No drawer or shelf space, tiny unusable chairs, no table or desk. Breakfast at €20 was extremely expensive for an average buffet. Overall very poor value for money.
Review 90:Interesting to stay in grand old Chateau. Staff mostly friendly and helpful. Good restaurant for dinner.
Review 91:Wifi could be a bit faster
Review 92:Great place! A very nice green park with a pond. Well decorated roomsand the whole hotel, good breakfast. It seems like you are in a movie!
Review 93:Biggest complaint - no tea or coffee facilities in the room. For a four star? Shocking. And they couldn't make a plan either. For those who love their tea before getting up or training.. A big deal!
Review 94:Great sized room and bathroom. Beautiful setting and building.
Review 95:As all have noted, the WiFi lacks considerably, perhaps intentionally to force one to relax and unwind!
Review 96:Wonferful countryside, great food and hospitality.
Review 97:We had both lunch and dinner, both were average. Wifi did not work for my iPad & iPhone.
Review 98:Lovely Chateau and gardens, our room was very nice and clean
Review 99:The power in our room went out and the night duty people could not get it back on. We had a first floor room which was not as nice as the second floor rooms
Review 100:The staff was very friendly and the grounds were beautiful. Wish we had spent more time at hotel. Elevator for second floor guest luggage. It is a very well thought out update for modern travelers
Review 101:some cofuses with reservations. They kindly resolved it.
Review 102:extraordinary old chateau surrounded by nice gardens. A very unique place. It worth to stay.
Review 103:Room was smaller than expected so we upgraded one category.
Review 104:Estate like location near interesting city. Beautiful trees and grounds. Quiet. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Nicely decorated.
Review 105:This hotel advertizes with valet service and parking, well no valet parking on sight, and parking is under the trees, so very dirty car in the morning. Front-desk duty manager was a sweet woman but ready to give birth anytime, and she wanted to carry my bag upon check-in !!!
Review 106:Well-maintained castle, beautiful piece of history.
Review 107:Cannot think of anything.
Review 108:Everything - in a beautiful setting in the countryside outside of St. Remy de Provence. Perfect location for exploring Provence and coming back to the peace and quiet of this castle retreat.
Review 109:Unfortunately restaurant is closed Mon & Tues out of season althoughthe Chateau offered to change the date of our booking.
Review 110:Lovely well appointed comfortable room. Grounds looked lovely.
Review 111:Having to leave!
Review 112:Lovely place with beautiful gardens. Good that it is set out of town as it feels like a real country estate within only 2 minutes of town. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Great staff.
Review 113:There was no advice on what to see in the area. No brochures provided. The breakfast is overpriced at 20 euros each, thankfully there was theParisian option at 10 euros. The grounds and garden for a 4 star chateauwere very disappointing.
Review 114:The chateau is well located (just 2kms from main town) which makes for anice walk. The rooms are generous in size and well appointed. Theevening meal was very good. The staff were pleasant.
Review 115:Flies and mosquito's in room every day. The place and room were very shabby.
Review 116:lovely relaxed feel about the chateau, staff very friendly. Beautiful grounds and garden.
Review 117:Nice garden, good ambiance, kind staff, awesome entrance, cozy room, etc. everything was perfect.
Review 118:Wifi service did not work in the room. No tea and coffee or bar services on Sunday evening.
Review 119:Beautiful chateaux
Review 120:Wonderful staff. Restaurant is amazing. Beautiful grounds and comfortable large room.
Review 121:Our room was lovely and the chateau charming. The outside courtyard was perfect for a late afternoon glass of local wine.
Review 122:Internet access didn't work.
Review 123:The nature around the hotel is amazing with a great alley of trees.
Review 124:that's all perfect I think. the service are all kindly to my first arrived. the party is wondeful
Review 125:air conditioning didn,t work, a staff member unhelpful, room peeling paint
Review 126:lovely location
Review 127:Towels too small. No ice machine wine overpriced
Review 128:The ambience. The age, the luxurious decay.
The Fine Print
