Reviews for Hotel Castel Jeanson
Review 1:We arrived at around 9.30pm and as an evening meal at the hotel was not an option, we went in to town for food. Unfortunately we came away without any luck, it is very quiet at night!
Review 2:Very good, friendly, traditional hotel, right on the doorstep of the champagne houses.
Review 3:Poor wifi
Review 4:Beautifully restored hotel. Spotlessly clean. Owners rum local champagne houseand offered a free glass of champagne and tour. Highly recommend.
Review 5:The town/village was so eerily quiet!
Review 6:Quaint. Character of building. Spacious room. Pleasant and helpful staff. Indoor pool. Very convenient for our journey travelling through the region.
Review 7:We were lucky to find somewhere to eat in the village as our stay was on a Sunday and the hotel only do breakfast . So would try to book somewhere before coming as it is a lovely place to walk around in the evening .
Review 8:Hotel set in the middle of the village with a wonderful backdrop of vineyards .
Review 9:The staff of Hotel Castel Jeanson is superb. Warm, friendly, and eager to help. They made us feel welcome throughout our stay and helped us discover the best of the region during our short stay.
Review 10:The only thing that needs improvement is their wifi.
Review 11:The friendly helpful staff are the key to what makes this hotel so attractive. It is an interesting building in a lovely area of a quiet town, however, I suspect the town changes a lot during tourist season.
Review 12:The wifi was problematic and the breakfasts were a little pricy
Review 13:This is a spacious and elegant hotel which has been beautifully renovated to a very high level. The rooms were nicely decorated with good facilities and a really lovely bathroom. Ay is a very pretty town with plenty to see. Our receptionist was excellent and did her best to help with any questions we had. Parking is in a large secure garage just opposite the hotel. The free tea and coffee while sitting in the glamorous library felt like a real luxury. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to returning again soon.
Review 14:Lovely boutique hotel, totally peaceful location, great pool, convenient parking and good restaurants nearby and well located for the champagne region
Review 15:Difficult to describe this as a hotel as there was no bar as such, just tepid jugs of coffee/water. No staff after 8.30 pm. No hotel restaurant and finding a place to eat was difficult as very few restaurants in Ay. Superior room over pool was noisy with constant him during night, overlooked correlated roof. Large bed but fitted with waterproof mattress cover which made it uncomfortable, also no lift despite hotel description. Wyfy would not work any where. Breakfast very overpriced at €14. Overall overpriced and would not recommend.
Review 16:Attractive building and good secure parking.
Review 17:We booked a suite for 3 adults described as room 1 with double bed & room 2 with single bed. However, it was one room with double bed to the left and single bed to the right, nothing to separate the spaces ( you couldn't call them rooms) . We complained to reception that this was not suitable and were offered another 'suite' but told there would be nothing else if that wasn't suitable. It was marginally better, the twin room had a door but we had to walk through the other room where our friend was sleeping to use the bathroom. Also there were not three of everything in the room, 2 glasses, 2 bath robes, only one pair of slippers etc. Having just driven all the way from the South in pouring rain we were all tired and didn't want the hassle of arguing with reception and the owner about misrepresentation in their description of a 2 room suite that was nothing more than a family room.
Review 18:Comfortable beds, large bathroom, covered parking.
Review 19:Really helpful and friendly staff, surrounded by a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy Ay and nearby cities.
Review 20:Beautiful, restored building just outside Epernay. Owner is a petrol head
Review 21:The quiet and efficient hospitality. The friendliness of the helpful staff. The swimming pool and the room.
Review 22:Early pool hours
Review 23:Beautiful royal hotel. Pool was great
Review 24:Quiet, Central for vineyards and sights, secure parking, friendly staff, pool
Review 25:Everything
Review 26:WiFi it was very slow and dropped out all the time.
Review 27:A large clean establishment I was shocked was only three starrs
Review 28:Internet connection not good very minor point
Review 29:Nice place nice people
Review 30:We liked having a swimming pool on site, and sitting in the wonderfully quiet courtyard.
Review 31:The wifi (had to keep reconnecting)
Review 32:The swimming pool The breakfast The friendly and helpful staff The beautiful building
Review 33:Everything! We would come again next year and would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to friends.
Review 34:No bath in my room; very small window.
Review 35:Ambiance
Review 36:Location
Review 37:Lovely building and comfortable rooms with bonus of a very elegant lounge with tea and coffee facilities. Wonderful to have a personal viewing of the owners champagne making facilities just over the road.
Review 38:Ay is dead. Two restaurants both of which were very quiet. Hotel wasvery expensive for what you got, eg breakfast at Eur 14 each waspathetic, room was small with tiny window.
Review 39:The morning receptionist was helpful
Review 40:Towels difficult to reach from shower but a relatively minor point.
Review 41:Country style B&B in a quiet setting. The room was simply decorated but comfortable. There was a small, secluded sitting area outside our room that made it feel like part of a suite. Bathroom was new and sparkling. Even a private garage across the street for the car.
Review 42:I thought it was a bit spartan, and the shower leaked beyond the door. The bed was small but many of the European old hotels have small beds
Review 43:It's antiquity
Review 44:Standard room is well equipped for a stay of one of two nights, but not more.
Review 45:Cleanliness and facilities. Prime location for visiting Champagne region.
Review 46:Rooms are quite small for the price but bed was very comfortable. First room I had was a bit smelly and the wifi weak but they let me change to a better room. Breakfast is pricey.
Review 47:Free hot drinks in the lounge, good secure parking, helpful staff
Review 48:We found that all the restaurants in Ay closed on a Monday. Means someone has to drive to Epernay or somewhere else to find an evening meal.
Review 49:Rooms comfortable and breakfast was excellent. Staff made every effort to help you and even arranged visit to a champagne cellar and producer.
Review 50:only 2 small restaurant's/pizza restaurant in the village if you just want to relax by the pool in the lovely courtyard its a great place to stay but you need to drive anywhere to eat at a nice restaurant
Review 51:very clean with excellent staff very relaxing stay, good secure garage for parking
Review 52:Nice friendly helpful staff who made us feel welcome, the interior decor is charming and air conditioning was excellent as when we stayed very hot outside. We had a delightful tour of the Goutorbe champagne caves, and would to thank Mme Goutorbe for her hospitality
Review 53:As with most French hotels, they shift to a buffet breakfast concept when all we wanted was a coffee and croissant.
Review 54:Staff was great and helpful. Room was country rustique and cosy. Good location near champagne maisons- ask for special deals. Pool was fun. A great country hotel, will definitely choose it if in Champagne again.
Review 55:Breakfast was OK and not really complaining but for €13 would be nice if there were a few nicer items.
Review 56:Fantastic quiet location. Wonderful air condition rooms (it was super hot when we stayed so it was lovely to be able to get a great nights sleep). Super clean. Lovely friendly staff and owners. Wonderful courtyard to sit and relax in plus a well maintained swimming pool.
Review 57:No dinner available - In a town where there was only one restaurant open after 6pm!
Review 58:A reasonably priced comfortable hotel close to the centre of Ay. Enjoyed drinking champers in the courtyard and a quick plunge in the indoor pool.
Review 59:Breakfast buffet area was a bit cramped, but food more than adequate.
Review 60:Staff very accomodating. Building most interesting and rooms #27 gracious and comfortable. Tour of Champagne cellar a plus.
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:The room was spacious and provided first class accomodation. The restoration of the building to provide this hotel has been carried out with care. The location in Ay is great for touring the region by car.
Review 63:The Staff is really excellent; the room we were initially assigned was upgraded as soon as they realised we had a 4 years old son. Rooms are big (our bathroom was huge!), clean and nice. Breakfast is very good, you have a number of choices and evertyhing is fresh!
Review 64:Perfect base for touring the area.
Review 65:Intermittent Wifi signal
Review 66:Staff extremely helpful with onward journey planning. Beds great!
Review 67:V.friendly and helpful staff. Lovely old building, king size (5ft) bed as standard and perfect location. Ay is a gem of a village!
Review 68:Breakfast poor and not value for money
Review 69:Beautifully restored building in Ay one of the champagne villages in France
Review 70:Town extremely quiet
Review 71:Lovely ambiance in house-Beautiful swimming pool across the courtyard
