Reviews for Hotel De La Cité
Review 1:Nothing, I would stay again anytime.
Review 2:Great little hotel, the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Good location to the centre of town where there is a lovely selection of shops. Breakfast was continental with a good selection.
Review 3:Rather tired appearance and comfort level (eg no air conditioning) overall - overpriced compared to similar places elsewhere.
Review 4:Good sized room, and friendly staff who helped me put my bike in the garden overnight
Review 5:As already mentioned in a review in September 2014 the shower fixture was broken and the washbasin tap was dripping non-stop. I informed the lady at reception who must have been well aware of these problems but just told me the plumbing was old. Since the hotel is regularly full I'm sure they could afford to call a plumber and get some basic repairs done. Be aware of the unreasonable late check-in (from 5-8pm) and early check-out (till 10.30am) times.
Review 6:For the price the hotel was fine and the lady at reception was very friendly and helpful. I was in room 2 on the first floor right at the top of a very narrow staircase so I wouldn't recommend the hotel for people with large heavy suitcases. There was a rather worn carpet on the bedroom floor. The room was very basic but clean with a small desk, a small flat screen TV on the wall without very many channels and it overlooked a garden at the back so it was quiet except for people passing outside the door. There were roller shutters and only transparent curtains so there was too much light early in the morning. The bathroom was just a partition in a corner of the room and was a bit cramped. I had to hold the shower as the fixture was broken. The mattress on the double bed was a bit old but the bed was fairly comfortable except for the long old-fashioned bolster at the top of the bed under the sheet and just two rather flat pillows. After an uncomfortable first night I asked for additional normal pillows and removed the bolster. The bed was big enough for one person but would have been far too small for two people. There was also a fold out sofa bed in the room. There were only two old style sockets and the one by the bed was so close to the bathroom partition that I couldn't fit my computer plug into it. The other one was by the door. Wifi worked fairly well with a couple of exceptions and I usually managed to get connected to one of the hotel's two Wifi networks. The hotel is a 15 minute walk (1km) from the central Place de la République where there are two hotels which are better situated but more expensive and a 30 minute walk (2kms) from the station. It is not well served by public transport so be prepared to walk or take a taxi. If you have your own car then you can easily find a parking space in the road in front of the hotel.
Review 7:The lady at reception was very helpful to my needs, and was very informed about the town's history. She had useful tips about things to do in Chalons. I could park my bicycle in the rear private courtyard. The toilet was communal, next to my room, and very clean. The room was spacious and i particularly liked the large open-plan cupboard. Cleanliness was to a high standard. A news magazine of the region was in the room. A quiet hotel. Good value for money.
Review 8:A bit old building inside but thats ok if you just stay for short durations.
Review 9:The host is quite helpful. Good one for short stay. All basic amnities there, clean, wifi is very good, simple breakfast. Good vaue for money.
Review 10:It was overall good. Maybe a good investment would be airconditioned rooms, but this is a typical French hotel, and lack of airco is also part of its charm. We had 37 degrees outside during the day, and with windows open during the night we had no heat problems. In-room bathrooms are not completely walled up, but if that bothers you, you can always go to the bathroom on the hallway.
Review 11:Friendly personnel, always ready to respond to questions and help out when needed. Rooms may look outdated, but they are clean rooms and come with daily maid service. Quiet neighbourhood, you can sleep with windows open. Good and sufficient breakfast for a correct price. 2 pieces of bread, a croissant, cheese, fair choice of yogurt, marmelade, cereals, and drinks. Close to the highlights of Chalons-en-Champagne, approx 10 minute walk to the City Hall. If budget is tight, then this is a very recommended place to explore the Champagne region. 45-50 minutes drive to either Reims or Epernay.
Review 12:- strange type of toilet in the room (just a wall around)

Review 24:Get what you pay for!
Review 25:Rooms rather dated and tired looking but nonetheless perfectly comfortable. 'Ensuite' facility was basically a partitioned off area in one corner of the room with surrounding walls extending to a height of around 8 foot
Review 26:Small city centre hotel from a bygone era. Very helpful lady on front desk. Good central location not far from range of good eating options - all fully gone through along with map from the patronne. Easy on street parking directly outside. Ideal and convenient stop over point on our way back up north.
Review 27:Wifi coverage in the rooms is a bit patchy.
Review 28:Probably the friendliest hotel manager I have ever met. She went out of her way to deliver a level of customer service that even North Americans would be happy with.
