Reviews for Hotel Spa Le Calendal
Review 1:better with lift.
Review 2:Nice decoration. No lift but helpful staff, help me to carry the big luggage. Good location next to the Arenes d' Arles and theatre Antique Arles. Great place for travelling around.
Review 3:Hotel in a good historic location but extremely difficult to access by car.Better information about where to park(and walk the rest )would have been helpful.
Review 4:Stairs! We were traveling for two weeks, so we had larger bags. Third floor was a bit of a pain. Narrow steps. Ask for a lower room. If this is an issue.
Review 5:This is a perfect location for Arles! Close to everything. The staff was very helpful. Great view from our room. It was on the third floor. Nice counter restaurant for quick food on the go.
Review 6:Fabulous location, very comfortable room, helpful staff (especially one who spoke excellent English). Do not be put off by the appearance from the street, as the hotel itself and the interior garden are lovely. Room #46 (Mimosa) was especially good, as large and right off the garden.
Review 7:Impossible to reach in car without going through parking barriers. No prior information from hotel who said they had sent me a PIN number which they had not. I was told bar/cafe was open 24/7 but it was completely closed when I returned to the hotel at 21.30. Room was very small and room only price was exorbitant.
Review 8:Good central location.
Review 9:The staff and garden. Room was small but clean. Desk clerk was outstanding in getting us a little larger room and with excellent suggestions for dinner reservations.
Review 10:As nice as it was I think it was overpriced for the overall hotel experience we had
Review 11:Location is excellent - right in the heart of the city right next door to most of the top sites to visit - the spa (although very small it was a joy to use it BUT you had to make an appointment to use it)
Review 12:Charming hotel in fantastic location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A bit of trouble with Wifi in the room but staff were working to correct this. We stayed 3 nights and wished we were there longer. Great place to make a home base for Provence!
Review 13:All good
Review 14:Breakfast is amazing: freshly squeezed fruit juice, lovely home made jams, Serrano ham, list is endless...and you eat it all in a private garden surrounded by trees and peace! Spa is open to guests 24/7 with view of colosseum from the tub, and staff really friendly. Location is right next to colosseum.
Review 15:Hardly anything. Only small problem breakfast closes early for our jet lagged timing.
Review 16:Great location, spacious room with view of roman amphitheater Loved bathtub.
Review 17:Had a music festival going on next to the hotel in the amphitheatre which kept us awake till late at night, but this was just a minor problem
Review 18:Great location just in the middle of the old town, beautiful room. The small spa is a welcome bonus.
Review 19:The room was small but comfortable and had everything we needed. Don't expect luxury. This is just a solid little hotel, with a very knowledgeable staff, a nice 24/7 cafe in the lobby, good wifi, and for a reasonable price. We enjoyed our stay at Le Calendal.
Review 20:The hotel is a bit difficult to find by car when you first arrive as you have to walk the last 100 meters to get a code from the reception to enter the traffic restricted old town. This also means that after unloading your luckage at the hotel you have to park in the municipal parking house about 300 meters from the hotel.
Review 21:Central location in the middle of the old historical town Perfect authentic atmosphere Relaxed breakfast garden Nice staff
Review 22:The attitude of the night staff was a bit rude but not the worst i have found in France.
Review 23:The hotel itself was in an excellent location and the staff on arrival were very friendly and obliging. The spa facility was excellent and the masseuse was super, one of the first very intuitive masseuses i have found in France
Review 24:The staff was very helpful and most spoke at least some English while some spoke English very well. The rooms are large and comfortable with nice bathrooms. The bed was quite comfortable. The hotel is very close to the Roman amphitheatre and the coliseum, and there was a music festival in progress the days we were there. One evening the rock concert in the amphitheatre was obnoxiously loud as we passed by on the way back to the hotel in the evening. The concert lasted until midnight, be we did not hear it in our room because most of the walls in this old hotel are very thick stone. I used the spa (baths and massage) and was very pleased and quite relaxed after. The breakfast buffet food is good and the cafe food was also good with a decent selection of salads, sandwiches, drinks and pastries.
Review 25:No lift and too many stairs! For the disabled the hotel is totally unsuitable, as we found to our cost! The hotel has been updated but it needs a little more of an internal makeover to have real appeal in the 21st century. It's good but it's dated.
Review 26:The situation is astounding! It is situated next to the Roman theatre and also the Roman amphitheatre, with eateries close by. A lovely old town a short walk away.
Review 27:only the spa which was not completely clean - in the window areas but otherwise all was great.
Review 28:The atmosphere and calm relaxation of the whole place! Lovely.
Review 29:We did not take breakfast option, but did take a look and found the buffet was average.
Review 30:Incredible location in the heart of Arles, attentive and courteous staff, huge family room with lots of space and two TVs for the children and adults, and easy access to many restaurants and tourist sites.
Review 31:Only critisism was the rubber backed matress protectors. They were so hot!
Review 32:The garden courtyard bar and restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Fabulous location!
Review 33:Parking is inside a gated area need to get the code to remove /lower the bollard but parking full, so parked just outside the city entrwnce. Unfortunately got parking fine the next day
Review 34:Staff very helpful with some scanning of documents. There is a nice cafe in reception so convenient for taking some food to go.
Review 35:Can't beat the location across the street from the arena and theatre. Big rooms with comfortable beds, and very clean. Friendly staff and free access to the soa facilities make this a perfect location for Arles.
Review 36:No restaurant, but very many good ones nearby.
Review 37:We had the most beautiful view out of our bedroom window, over the Roman theatre and the old town, complete with church bells, school children and beautiful sunsets.
Review 38:A little hard to drive to the first night -- Google Map took us there but it was not easy. It was actually fun to drive through these impossibly narrow old streets. The advertised "jacuzzi" is only 33C (92F) so don't expect anything like a hot baths in the US or Japan.
Review 39:Very good breakfast. View of the classical theatre across the street.
Review 40:They have a spa, a rare facility in European hotels. Not sure whether this is what "spa" means in France, but the water temperature was not hot, lukewarm at best
Review 41:I came down to the breakfast late one day. It was before they remove the foods, and the staff allowed me to eat (albeit hurriedly though)
Review 42:The only negative is the hotel is uphill from the rest of the town, so you always have to climb back up two long blocks whenever you return.
Review 43:We had a wonderful, large room. It was very quiet at night. Staff very helpful and friendly. A short walk to shopping, forum and other historical landmarks. Staying in Arles is a great home base for exploring the Provence region.
Review 44:We spent only one night in this charming hotel, but would have happily based ourselves here for a week. When we pulled up outside the hotel, we couldn't believe our eyes - just there, the Roman amphitheatre! Our family room was located in the garden, and cleverly designed to have a soaring roof to give a sense of space. The small touches here are what make this hotel feel more sophisticated than the price you pay for it. My husband and I were in love - and if we'd been kidless, we would have indulged in the gorgeous spa. The kids couldn't believe that they had a 24 hour cafe to hand, which brings a lively feel to the place. Our breakfast was one of the best we've had so far. All in all, a really wonderful hotel experience. We loved it!
Review 45:The hotel locate the right to tour Arles. I arrived at 11:30 pm. The attendant who is working at that time was so kind to welcome me to the hotel and guide me to the parking lot. The food served at the hotel was so good. The hotel is comfortable.
Review 46:Traffic difficult at certain times.
Review 47:This hotel was much better than expected. The position was fantastic, right next to the amphitheatre. The staff were really helpful and were all multilingual. The room was clean comfortable and spacious as was the bathroom!.breakfast terrific. Definitely recommend and will return.
Review 48:Our ground floor room was a bit stuffy and we needed the a/c on to sleep.
Review 49:Location, helpful staff guided us to the parking nearby, breakfast was reasonably varied for France. Nice courtyard area for breakfast.
Review 50:The location is a bit difficult to approach by auto, and the entry to the lobby is awkward because of the sidewalk cafe... especially with one's luggage. Once you get past that everything is fine.
Review 51:The staff was outstanding, and the hotel was delightful.
Review 52:Room was a bit small and old, but otherwise still good.
Review 53:Good location (almost beside the Arles ampitheatre), excellent service (staff was very helpful), good price.
Review 54:The products for the bath, etc are lovely but are in dispensers rather than individual bottles which made them difficult to reach when in the nice, big bath
Review 55:The delightful, multilingual staff; the spa
Review 56:Good hotel but I would say a bit pricy... No parking near the hotel.
Review 57:Great location opposite the Roman arena. Friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Small and charming rooms, nice garden.
Review 58:The room was tiny and smelled of damp. The steam room in the spa is not left on all day and I had to wait 15 minutes for it to heat up. The jacuzzi pool was pretty cold. Breakfast was expensive but there are plenty of other options nearby.
Review 59:The location was great. The garden was lovely and well used by guests. The cafe seemed popular although I did not use it. The spa was free and I had it all to myself which was a real luxury. The cost was low for the town.
Review 60:• There is no lift so on arrival & departure you have to carry luggage up & down a steep staircase, staff are helpful & will assist you with your luggage. • It is advertised as having a kids play area, we did not find it. We did see it written in the welcome folder that there is a TV for children inside however. • It is advertised as having a pool, however it is part of the day spa and you need to pay for it - it is not a suitable area for children under 16
Review 61:• The location was ideal, around many restaurants & cafés. • The staff are friendly and always happy to help. • The day spa is relaxing and well set out. And lovely and clean!
Review 62:Charming exterior, staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful at all times. Rooms are super clean and charming as well. You can tell that they pay attention to all the details. You get a five star feeling for a reasonable rate. The rooms are fragrant, the linen excellent, the toiletries are spa quality. A wonderful breakfast, good coffee, lovely croissants, many cereal choices, fresh juice. Breakfast room or eat in the courtyard garden. A very nice garden to relax in, read, enjoy a drink. Cafe in the lobby is open late. Great location, just across from the Roman arena, near great restaurants and eating places. A short walk to the Van Gogh cafe and other spots, including the new Van Gogh museum. Its a comfortable walk to/from the station, even with a suitcase. I regret that I didn't get to use the spa. Bring a swimsuit and save 12euros!
Review 63:a bit pricey and for this kind of money at least the BF should be included i think.
Review 64:great breakfast and incredible nice staff. location is perfect too.
Review 65:Before you read what I didn't like about the hotel, let me firstwarn you; it turns out that Arles is a ghetto with graffiti everywhere, and the coliseum is actually remodeled as a rodeo house (I.E., not ahistorical relic that you can visit and see inside of). They'veadded aluminum bleachers for rodeo spectators. If you're an Americanlooking for something old and cool to see, I'd check out thisvillage called Eze that's just East of Nice. It's absolutelyamazing and the old walled city from the 1300s will blow your mind. Ifyou want something more west than that, check out Domme, another walledcity that will actually literally blow your mind with beauty. The room was very small and dingy, the bathroom was small and dingy with no bottles of shampoo or other toiletries. Instead, there was a gym style pump of "body soap" on the shower wall.
Review 66:The lobby and food counter were really nice and the location is reallycentral to everything in Arles.
Review 67:Room is too sparsely furnished in modern minimalist style. Window shades do not ensure privacy in bedroom or shower area.
Review 68:Excellent location adjacent to arena, air conditioning, comfortable room and beds, adequate space, helpful staff.
Review 69:Parking is a serious problem near the hotel. The temperature of water in the bathroom shower changed on its own from cold to hot in seconds :(
Review 70:Location is great! The staff is very helpful and speaks many languages.
Review 71:Signage in town made it difficult to find the hotel.
Review 72:Very friendly and efficient staff. Cafe was wonderful; enjoyed sitting in front and seeing the Roman amphitheater and coloseum. Loved sitting in the garden.
