Reviews for Hôtel Le Renard

Review 1:Lovely hotel, shame the hotel restaurant and bar were closed but the staff were amazing and booked us into a local restaurant. Carillion Gourmand. This was the best food we've eaten for a while in France and though it looks expensive it really isn't. Rooms comfortable and as there were 2 adults and 2 children we had adjoining rooms which were really spacious only downside double beds which didn't suit the 2 boys. I also forgot to book a parking space which is necessary but the receptionist again was fabulous and sorted this out for us.

Review 2:The restaurant was not open on Sunday evening When using the bath as a stand-up shower, there was no handle to steady oneself. This is important for older guests.

Review 3:Good size room with comfortable beds. Spacious and convenient elevator.

Review 4:The understated exterior hides a nice modern hotel with large rooms and comfortable beds. The hotel sits in a square with plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes and is a short walk to the main town square. An underground carpark was available for our 7 motorcycles and charged by the number of bays used (0) as we parked them in the nooks and crannies of the car park. Good breakfast in a modern dining room set us up for a good day on the road.

Review 5:Wifi very slow. Restaurant staff very stand offish until I ordered a very good bottle of wine then they took notice!

Review 6:Central location easy to find. No dedicated parking but parking available at a price all around the square outside hotel

Review 7:The fact that in a Sunday there was absolutely no catering available. This was exacerbated by the recommendation to use the venue next door which was the worst meal of my life. I don't care that the French culture is not to open on a Sunday - this supposed to be a hotel and people need to eat!

Review 8:Room itself was ok and comfortable with an effective AC system.

Review 9:Really nothing

Review 10:Only stayed one night as we were on our way back to Calais for journey home and it was a great choice. The hotel is right in the centre of town with bars and restaurants in walking distance which was great for us with our children. Our adjoining rooms were amazing and felt really spacious and comfortable. We also loved the secure parking as always good to feel that the car is safe!

Review 11:Our room was accessible via a lift and 2 flights of stairs, so pack light! (Or stay in a lower floor)

Review 12:Staff was great, the room was very comfortable and location is excellent. A parking space right in front and a short walk from the best restaurants and attractions.

Review 13:Tables quite close to one another for dinner and the table next to us was smoking which was not brilliant. The service wasn't the best either

Review 14:The room was very nice and spacious. Plenty of room for the dog too! It was good to have a fridge as we were travelling up from the south and had perishables like cheese with us.

Review 15:Very friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed! Secure parking! Lovely breakfast, especially the brioche. Interesting building. Our family also booked and were treated exceptionally well, able to have adjoining rooms with their children.

Review 16:Wifi speed was a little slow. The breakfast was OK - worth getting but not brilliant.

Review 17:Definitely would recommend this hotel. It's right in the centre of town. It's recently renovated, clean, modern and well run.

Review 18:We ate in the restaurant and my son (13) doesn't have a very sophisticated pallet... so he wanted the chicken nuggets. The waitress said he couldn't have them because he was over 10!!! After an argument and ordering some extra chips she conceded defeat. Apart from that the meal was excellent.

Review 19:Very average hotel. Chalons en champagne is pretty but if you arrive on a Sunday everything is shut, even restaurants, not much open on Mondays either.

Review 20:Very clean, central location

Review 21:The family room has no lift to it so we had to carry all our luggage up two additional flights of stairs which wasn't at all convenient. The single toilet was immediately adjacent to one of the beds. The children had a double bed rather than two singles

Review 22:Location, right in a square with restaurants and parking immediately outside. To have family rooms in a hotel isn't easy to find and we had two parties within our family group so it wasn't an easy combination by the hotel was able to accommodate us all. We emailed in advance about parking and got a quick response. There is a restaurant connected with the hotel but several very nearby.

Review 23:initially we were charged more than what we booked for which was an unpleasant experience, but within a day we got an apology with a refund so it turned out good.

Review 24:Friendly and efficient staff. Our requests for quiet accommodation and car parking were met. Breakfast was excellent. We were not expected to hurry and there was a wide selection from which to choose.

Review 25:Great location both from motorway and in town itself, in main square. Easy parking, decent nearby restaurants and bars. Perfect spot for a stopover. Staff friendly & helpful, hotel facilities excellent.

Review 26:The common areas were a little dark and uncharacterful and not as inviting as some of the surrounding bars and restaurants.

Review 27:My family's stay was only a stopover on journey home so our needs were limited. Check in was quick & easy - the staff lovely. The room was spacious, modern, very clean, the bathroom well appointed with a separate toilet - always a bonus with a family room!

Review 28:Interconnecting rooms as a family suite which was great value for money. Really friendly staff - especially the lovely night porter who couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful when we arrived in the early hours. Will definitely stay over again.

Review 29:No curtain so security light disturbed through the night Not told in advance that restaurant closed on Friday. We were lucky to get somewhere close & good to eat on the night

Review 30:early check in was no problem Room was quiet Kettle in room Secure parking & cheap

Review 31:My key failed when I got back to the hotel at 10.15 pm when no one was on duty. I did find a security guard who was very helpful but I had to wait 45 minutes before I had a new working key. So note the warning in the key envelope, don't put it in your pocket with your car key which I didn't see until too late!!!!

Review 32:The hotel was very clean and felt newly refurbished. I especially appreciated the kettle, tea and coffee provided!

Review 33:The hotel needs more decoration .... It has a rather cold, bland feel about it. Pity the restaurant has to close in the winter. Would have expected breakfast within the price.

Review 34:Friendly staff, excellent location. Would use again although not great value for money.

Review 35:Although the beds are super comfortable and the rooms are a decent size, the beds themselves could be a little larger. Very minor gripe as still slept well.

Review 36:Due to all the weather conditions in the Alps, we arrived at midnight, rather than the expected 18.00, and the night porter was excellent. Check in took 30 seconds (he could see we were exhausted). We have stayed here before and it is a lovely place to stop over - it was a shame that this time we had no time to explore the town, which is lovely. Staff are always courteous and the rooms are quiet and comfortable.

Review 37:The elevator only went part way to our room requiring us to climb two additional flights of stairs. A problem if you're carting heavy bags. The bathroom was right off the main living area and for some reason included translucent windows rather than walls. A little odd since we were staying in a 'family' room that we shared.

Review 38:A good location with access to small city center. The nearby park was a nice surprise.

Review 39:one inconvenience for us was that the restaurant is closed on friday evenings - it would have been most convenient as our arrival time was late and uncertain

Review 40:No drawers for clothes which was ok for overnight stay but a bit annoying if staying longer

Review 41:Great location in old town centre. Modern, clean, comfortable hotel. Private parking at hotel but lots of parking on the square in front of hotel, free for overnight stay. I left my kindle book in the room but the emailed to let me know and offered to post it to me.

Review 42:There were no window coverings other than sheers. The light from outside shone bright all night. I'm a sleeker how needs it dark, so I didn't sleep. Also hard to change clothes with people looking in.

Review 43:Cute town and a decent breakfast.

Review 44:Blind in room wouldn't work and not enough milk, coffee and other sachet drinks in the room.

Review 45:Very clean, comfortable, maintained every day, good decor, friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant was great with excellent food. Lovely position on a square in Chalon.

Review 46:Parking on the square outside can be a little hit and miss in busier periods.

Review 47:The restaurant is good serving good evening meals and excellent breakfast. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Review 48:The bath was extremely slippery and would benefit from a handrail of some kind being fitted. Only a glass shower screen to grab!

Review 49:Parking had been reserved in advance and was available. Food in the restaurant was superb for a luxury - end of holiday meal. Hotel easy to find overlooking a square where there was plenty of paid parking

Review 50:Location, quirky bathroom location (room 214), interesting use of space at first floor level. Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Secure parking in city centre.

Review 51:No private parking facilities - No Restaurant - closed - Bistros on thePlace closed or the one tried rude refused 2 to sit at table for 4 whenplace half empty at 8pm - walked out.

Review 52:Ease - regarding situation in town. Impersonal - good for one nightquick stay.

Review 53:Breakfast was expensive for what was on offer. All the cereals were of the children's variety, ie chocolate or covered in sugar, the array of fruit was poor and the fruit salad offered was distinctly brown in colour. Also, there were no curtains in our bedroom which caused issues with privacy and ambient light from outside.

Review 54:Rooms are very spacious, spotless and modern. The bed was the most comfy I have had in a hotel room for a long while. We booked on line only the day before and all of our requests were accommodated. The morning cleaning staff were most friendly and were highly amused by our dog!

Review 55:I was given the top corner room. I'm 91 years old and I had to carry two pieces of luggage up about 40 steps because the elevator did not go that far.

Review 56:The location was perfect.

Review 57:We booked hotel based on restuarants review , however at no time were we advised and neither is it listed on the web site that both restuarants are closed for August, in fact France is closed don't be a tourist in August in fact don't bother it's a second rate country

Review 58:Hotel was clean ,central location

Review 59:-Not a complaint - there is a small hotel car park (charged) which can be full otherwise park in the road and remember to feed the meter before 9am next morning when the charges operate!

Review 60:The central position with restaurants and bars near by is an advantage. The rooms are modern even if a bit small . We had a room at the rear of the hotel which overlooked a small car park and was very quiet - maybe an idea to ask for one of those as the front over looks a busy square. Excellent self service breakfast bar.

Review 61:Location not very pleasant. A bit down at heel and most places closed. Hotel not fully open. Restaurant closed. Smells of paint

Review 62:Close enough to Calais to catch the shuttle the following morning

Review 63:No complaints.

Review 64:Excellent location. The hotel had been recently refurbished and the room was tastefully decorated and spacious with a nice bathroom with a bath. Also had a kettle and teabags - unusual for a French hotel!

Review 65:For the price, €95 per night, we feel that breakfast could have been included. The staff were pleasant but we couldn't say that service was personal.

Review 66:The location in the centre of the town overlooking a square was excellent, and the very secure car parking in a private courtyard was reassuring. The mini fridge was very helpful. The facilities were modern and comfortable.

Review 67:No light in the toilet and no one to put problem right - it was pitch black in there! no one to explain breakfast system in dining room when we arrived.

Review 68:Bed extremely comfortable! Room a good size Separate toilet and bathroom. Excellent central location and an attractive town to look around. Parking at front of hotel Breakfast lovely.

Review 69:Great location, especially as a stop off in the way home from the Alps.

Review 70:Rip off price for dogs €13 each!! We left this hotel with a bad taste in our mouths!

Review 71:Great location nice hotel staff friendly

Review 72:Nothing. All good

Review 73:Excellent hotel for overnight stay to break journey through France

Review 74:Breakfast was quite basic

Review 75:Bang in the centre, recent face lift and decent breakfast

Review 76:Location Central to shops

Review 77:Hotel was immaculately clean throughout and the location of the hotel is excellent with secure private parking costing 7 Euros per day.

Review 78:Breakfast was poor... Restaurant was closed in the evening, not many in the town open either

Review 79:Location for 1 night stop over

Review 80:Extremely comfortable beds, lovely view over the square, friendly staff jumping to help my husband (with a broken leg) move around easily.

Review 81:Bad luck restaurant was closed

Review 82:Great location

Review 83:Satnav did not recognise new on way streets. Lack if adequate parking nearby

Review 84:Town centre location

Review 85:Hard to find because its in town centre

Review 86:Good location on central square

Review 87:Good location and availability of a secure car park plus a good restaurant. Friendly staff.

Review 88:bed is te smal

Review 89:Location. Very comfortable beds. Nice restaurant

Review 90:limited hotel parking but public car park outside

Review 91:Restaurant wasn't open but excellent restaurant nearby 2 minute walk away

Review 92:Strange that a french hotel didn't served cheese at breakfast

Review 93:Nothing,for its price it is perfect.

Review 94:Reataurant was fabulous. Had dinner there twice and loved it.

Review 95:The bath - feel a hotel of this standard would benefit from a good quality shower.

Review 96:Location, comfortable room and pleasant staff

Review 97:Strangely disembodied from any real contact with hotel guests

Review 98:Good location in the centre of town

Review 99:Only had a hand held shower attachment.

Review 100:Very pleasant reception staff, safe parking. Good size rooms.

Review 107:Great location in the centre, parking limited but secure in locked courtyard. Meal in the restaurant was excellent

Review 108:In essence, everything. Very convenient parking, central to town, overall a very good hotel

Review 109:Tiny toilet. - sit down and you bump your knees on the door. Hand-held shower.

Review 110:Good location

Review 111:strange layout of both hotel and room with very limited car paring

Review 112:central location

Review 113:The shower over the bath! A proper shower cubicle would be a big improvement.
