Reviews for Hotel du Pot d'Etain
Review 1:The space available in the room was very limited. On arrival it took forever to get some warm water to flow in our bathroom; by the next morning this had been rectified and hot water flowed almost immediately. One light bulb did not work and operating the TV was a bit of a nightmare.
Review 2:Reception was very good and welcoming. We have stayed here before but felt that the room we were given was not as good as previously. We went on to a 3 star IBIS in St Omer where we paid a lot less and found the rooms etc much better.
Review 3:Room 100 two windows looking over roofs at rear covered with bird mess, extractor pipes and below full black plastic rubbish bags. Public toilets for hotel cafe beside and service area- not fit to be let.
Review 4:Not being in the hotel.
Review 5:The centre town location does have a downside, perhaps inevitably - our room was at the front of the hotel and we stayed in summer, so the window needed to be open. The front of the hotel overlooks the square, with a cafe immediately beneath - meant it was a little noisy in the evenings and even late on - but really not the fault of the hotel. We didn't feel need to complain - it just goes with the location. No kettle/tea-making facilities (but there are plenty of places to get tea or coffee very close by).
Review 6:Friendly staff and very good position in the centre of town for exploring the town by foot. Plenty of cafes and restaurants within short walk - the nearby 'Les Sarments' (directly opposite) was super. Excellent, modern bathroom (clearly recently fitted; with bath AND shower). We had a quadruple room for the two of us - so was a good size but priced for 2. Free WiFi worked fine and was very useful. The single private garage was very secure and sensibly priced and meant I could relax about the car stacked with stuff returning from a long holiday (there is parking in the square but it's metered and feels less secure).
Review 7:There is no air conditioning in the rooms and in the 37 degrees heat sleeping was a little uncomfortable
Review 8:The location is excellent right on the centre of the village also has a secure private car park
Review 9:The staff could not have been more helpful. One of daughter's was unwell and they made several phone calls for us and then drove us 10 minutes to a pharmacy that was open on a Sunday. So very kind and we would recommend the hotel to anyone. Secure parking in garage meant we did not need to unload just for one night's stay. Not far from motorway and a couple of great restaurants close by to walk to for dinner. One was full on a Saturday night but the other had space for us. Dog friendly. All clean. We will be back....,
Review 10:We liked it all. We asked for a room looking on the terrace, but were given a room on the (cooler) side. Not a problem. It was nicely furbished and felt like second skin. Even the fact that the room lacked airconditioning did not bother us. There was a ventilator, but we did not event need to use it. The room was cool and nice and outside 35 degrees C. We reserved beforehand a closed private parking place and it was reserved for us. Nothing but praise!
Review 11:Would have liked breakfast included in the price
Review 12:Beautiful location in a little square. Staff very friendly and rooms clean and modern. Perfect for over night stop off.
Review 13:Receptionist didn't give me the password for the wifi when I checked in & there was no info in the room either how to log in. I was too tired to go back to the reception to get the password
Review 14:Comfy bed & I got a good nights sleep. Very quiet outside in spite of being in town centre. Nice sized bathroom
Review 15:We booked a room with double bed and two single beds but were given two double beds which meant our children found it difficult to sleep. Rooms could do with updating and air con.
Review 16:The staff are friendly. The breakfast is very basic but the croissants and pain au chocolat were wonderful.
Review 17:A charming hotel right in the heart of a charming town. Staff were exceptionally helpful, storing my daughter's medicine in the refrigerator overnight and producing it again the next morning. Hotel parking was safe and suitable for a larger car. Chalons en Champagne is a lovely town with timber framed buildings and an historic canal. Would stay at hotel and town again.
Review 18:The suffocatingly hot atmosphere in the third floor bedroom and corridor - air-conditioning should be installed as it is essential during hot weather. Also, we'd asked for a quiet room but were given one overlooking the main town square.
Review 19:Not much at all. We would pay the extra next time and stay at the Hotel du Renard next door where there's air-conditioning and where we stayed 3 years ago.
Review 20:I cannot think of a thing I did not like about this town or the hotel. The rooms were a little on the spartan side but I found that to be a positive thing.
Review 21:The location on a fun, vibrant street was wonderful. There were excellent restaurants, shops, bars and cafes. The little town was truly unique and off the beaten path.
Review 22:Air conditioning and tea/coffee making facilities would have been appreciated.
Review 23:The position of this hotel was lovely and staff were brilliant. Especially the waiter in the bar out front who wore false eyebrows and rash. Music on the square added an extra dimension. Room had old beams traditionally decorated but with a modern bathroom. We wished we'd booked longer for our stay.
Review 24:It was very hot and there is no air conditioning. A fan is supplied in the room which helped a bit. There was only a hand held shower but this was no major problem.
Review 25:The hotel is typically French and very friendly. We were made to feel welcome and the room was comfortable. The hotel has a bar attached with seating outside which was lovely in the evening. There are many restaurants within the square and more a short walking distance away. Loved the hotel and the town. We pre-requested parking and so had use of the garage otherwise parking is in the square which was full when we arrived.
Review 26:The room booked said it had a double and to singles however it turned out to be two double s therefore not suitable for 3 single men. This was resolved by paying for an additional room thus more expense
Review 27:Breakfast was basic although there was a good variety of breads.
Review 28:Location, staff and cleanliness. It is a traditional French Hotel that has been modernised without losing it's traditional characture.
Review 29:It had a bath not shower which is fine, just not our preference and nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. If you are arriving at a weekend book a restaurant in advance!
Review 30:Location Garage Cleanliness
Review 31:The location is good, parking can be a bit of a challenge unless you book 'in hotel', the bar is good but with no food available you have to eat out - but there are a range of choices nearby. Its a lively place in the evening but that doesn't affect the rooms.
Review 32:There is nothing bad about this hotel, ideal location, helpful staff, breakfast was good and the rooms were clean and accommodating. Would go there again,no problem as a group or on our own.
Review 33:Wifi too slow to be useful. No hot drink making facilities.
Review 34:This was a lovely stopover on our drive to Switzerland. A short walk took us past beautiful eateries and fashion boutiques. It was very well priced for a light handed renovated room.
Review 35:The hotel is in a town just off the Motorway, was easy to find and in a square with places to eat. All the staff were friendly and helpful giving a relaxed atmosphere. The room was a good size and all good quality and clean.
Review 36:This hotel is ideally located, with very friendly staff. The beds were very comfortable and despite being right in the the centre of town, the room was very quiet. Would recommend to anyone travelling to chalôns en champagne.
Review 37:..it really was too small especially width probably only 4'6" We asked if there were rooms with larger beds but told not yet ..
Review 38:Friendly helpful Receptionist Room v clean and quiet Good central location Easy Parking in front of Hotel Comfortable bed but....
Review 39:Small cramped room, no bedside lamps or tables, inadequate hanging and storage space Ghastly breakfast in a dingy room, concentrated orange juice, half a French stick and a couple of overcooked croissants, terrible value at 9.5 euro each. Described in brochure as " Homemade breakfast a festival of buns, rolls, pastries and a cocktail of Champagne" !!
Review 40:Central location, secure parking
Review 41:Rather noisy refuse lorry early in the morning...but it didn't last long.
Review 42:Very pleasant entrance and reception and a good welcome. Charming outlook over La Place de la Republique..lots to see and watch. All staff very polite and helpful. Parking very easy.
Review 43:Check in was quick and easy. We had a very large room that easily accommodated 2 adults, a child and a cot for our baby. Breakfast in the morning was lovely.
Review 44:No problem. May I suggest for a bedside lampshade for reading than wall lampshade?
Review 45:safe parking in front of the hotel, helpful and polite staff, town centre location and restaurants nearby
Review 46:When we arrived although booked with booking.com they had no details of our booking. Shower over bath awful, very noisy wc. Receptionist spoke no English.
Review 47:Central. Clean. Comfy beds.
Review 48:Expensive for a two star hotel. Probably not the most comfortable beds and pillows. Street noise quite invasive in the evening.
Review 49:Friendly attitude from the staff. Hotel centrally situated but parking could be a problem, unless one reserves the single slot garage space available. Room very clean.
Review 50:Arriving in a downpour-but not the hotel's fault.
Review 51:Very good evening meal and breakfast at keen prices. Off road parking. Quiet room with ample storage. Easy walk to town centre. Friendly staff.
Review 52:no air con, noise from the square makes it impossible to open windows too early at night and the noise from street cleaners at 6am was not welcome.
Review 53:location, Chalons is a nice town and we arrived during a music fesival,
Review 54:The breakfast room was too small so we had to wait for a clear table when we needed to be on our way.
Review 55:The Hotel du Pot d'Etain was in a lovely town which had ample parking and good options for eating and drinking. We had a very comfortable stay on our travel through.
Review 56:Hot sticky night with no air-con and only a noisy fan
Review 57:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Numerous restaurants within easy walk. Traditional family run hotel, not a chain

Review 66:Poor breakfast for the money. The vienoiseries and the bread were over cooked even burnt.
Review 67:Perfect location. Great ambience.
Review 68:I booked secure parking, but couldn't use it as we had to leave at 0530. So ended up having to leave a fully loaded car in a public square.
Review 69:Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 70:The restaurant was fantastic. Food a credible 5.5 out of 6. Will go back just to dine there.
Review 71:The location of the hotel
Review 72:Breakfast only from 0800 (though went to check out at 0745 and people having breakfast). No air conditioning, fan provided in room.
