Gounod descritpion

At this renovated, stylish hotel, in the heart of Saint Rémy de Provence, the great composer Charles Gounod wrote his Mireille opera.
Although all the hotel's rooms are unique, every one is decorated in a tasteful, cultivated manner, bristling with sophistication.
Having explored the beautiful scenery surrounding the town, stunning enough for Van Gogh to have painted over 100 portraits of the area, you can enjoy the sun on the deckchairs next to the hotel's charming outdoor swimming pool. It is the perfect place to stay for romantic vacations.

Reviews for Gounod

Review 1:It was a shame that I was traceling aline. It's cery romantic. The breakfatg room/bar is a real selling point. Excellent location in the village.

Review 2:Our room was large, very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The breakfast area was very beautiful and the breakfast of great quality. All the personnel were kind, helpful and very competent.

Review 3:Positioned in the heart of Saint-Remy-de-Provence, the Gounod hotel is a chic stay which is excellently located if, like us, you are keen to explore some of the surrounding areas, such as; Les Baux de Provence, Avignon, Chateauneuf-du-Pape etc. After long (and hot) days of sightseeing the walled pool area was the perfect place to unwind before relaxing in the splendid gardens -- you almost forget that you are in the heart of the city....and what's more, you cannot help but get the perfect nights sleep in the peaceful and beautifully designed rooms. In addition to the hotel, the restaurants are fantastic and the staff at Gounod are more than happy to recommend their favourites. When we return to St-Remy, this will be our first choice.

Review 4:Loved the room overlooking the gorgeous garden. Pool was beautiful also. The owner and her team were delightful and made sure we had whatever we needed. Our room and bathroom were both very spacious, far bigger than the other hotels we stayed in on our trip. L'Occitane products were such a treat too! We will definitely be back.

Review 5:Our duplex had steep stairs; not great for older couple. Small exercise room and mini fridge would have been nice.

Review 6:Nice helpful staff led by owner (we think) who was on premises all the time. Hotel had historic character and atmosphere. Pretty interior garden and pool were ideal for hanging out.

Review 7:A bit problem with hot water - weak pressure in our room (Charming room). Parking not included and about 1 kilometer walking from the hotel (10 EUR/night). It should have been included. Breakfast was tasty, but a bit poor and not a value for money (15 EUR/day/person) - we paid just for one day and next day rather ate outside.

Review 8:Hotel itself is very nice, very romantic and with a soul (you can feel the history). There is a private pool and we also have got a welcome drink of a local wine. Nice and helpful staff.

Review 9:Everything!

Review 10:Grounds were beautiful, location was perfect, accommodations were lovely and staff was superb. We loved it!! You cannot go wrong if you stay here.

Review 11:The unique deco, individual, quirky, fun is evident from the photos. An unexected surprise was the lush and quiet inner courtyard garden, considering the hotel's very central, market place location.

Review 12:Religious icons in hotel's public area are somewhat overwhelming

Review 13:We could do with another pillow each! Otherwise, for an overnight stay, it's fine.

Review 14:Small bathroom and toilet practically in the room.

Review 15:We loved the position of the hotel - right in the centre of town near the carousel. Car parking is nearby at an extra cost. Lovely quiet area at the back with garden and a pool. Our room - 50 was overlooking the garden with a small terrace. Rooms very different in decoration. Showers great. Ours had a separate toilet which was practically in the room! Our towels weren't changed as we didn't throw them on the floor. But believe me there was little floor space in the bathroom to throw anything! The common areas are quirky and I believe the breakfast was good. Good to be able to open a window. Front desk lady made good suggestions for eating out.

Review 16:The air conditioner fans outside our room meant it was noisy with windows open. (Check with hotel - only affects some rooms). No evening meals in hotel but a wide choice of restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

Review 17:Behind the small frontage there is a large garden and swimming pool, just a stone throw from the centre of St Remy. Hotel has a teashop which also offers good breakfast and lunch menus. Staff were extremely helpful and spoke fluent English as well as French.

Review 18:In some rooms shower is not separated from the bedroom.

Review 19:Lovely hotel with a courtyard and swimming pool. They serve a nice breakfast with fresh orange juice, croissants, fresh bread, fruits and coffee. The receptionist gave us good reccomendations for dinner. A lot of images of Jesus seemed to me a bit strange but it's not the point.

Review 20:Our room was unbelievably damp, even on a dry summer day. Needs much better ventilation. It was good to have private parking, but for us it was too far from the hotel.

Review 21:Friendly staff, lots of good suggestions for day trips and restaurants.

Review 22:The stairs!

Review 23:We loved everything about this hotel, except that we were way up 3-4 flights of stairs (there's no lift) which was difficult for my 75 year old traveling companion. The hotel had very friendly and helpful staff, great food and is in an excellent location, right next to the town walls.

Review 24:Convenience to walk the historic city center of St. Remy, quiet beautiful room on interior courtyard with private balcony, excellent staff, and wonderful breakfasts.

Review 41:Unique hotel in decor. The staff was very nice, particularly the woman working at reception who was also very helpful. Great location. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was fantastic.

Review 42:While the breakfast was sufficient and fresh, it would have been nice to have a few buffet items to choose from in addition to the set items that were brought to the table.

Review 43:Friendly and helpful staff. Great central location. Beautiful room with a lovely terrace. Room was clean.

Review 44:Clean and comfortable. room decor very different from lobby decor, which may not be for everyone but the rooms are terrific. Good beds, linens, modern bathrooms, space and amenities. Great value. perfect location for parking and walking or touring by car.

Review 45:Having to pay for a cup of tea before breakfast to take to our room

Review 46:The central location to explore St Remy. The quirky style of the hotel. Clean and friendly environment

Review 47:The hotel is beautiful, calm and ideally located in the village.Facilities are great and clean. We stayed in a comfort room and it waseverything we expected and had all that we needed. Unusual but quirkyhotel. Recommend it if you have the funds....

Review 48:The religious statues and icons and dark hallways were creepy.

Review 49:The staff, especially two young women--one who worked in reception, andthe other who served breakfast, were second to none inattitude(positive, friendly), helpfulness, and going out of their way tomake our stay a great experience. The room was clean and comfortable.

Review 50:One staffer was downright impolite when enforcing the hotel's (unstated) rules.

Breakfast is included and is served at your table: fresh croissants, ciabatta, fresh orange juice,... Just perfect! Friendly staff and very nice rooms, the bathroom even has a rain shower!

Review 62:We missed a minibar in our room. Stairs might be a handicap.
