Reviews for La Maison De Marie Caroline

Review 1:It's a B&B, so don't expect the same service as a hotel. You have to climb two flights of steep stairs to get to the family room on top of the building. The toilet and basins are fitted unusually high, children need help to use them.

Review 2:Very original decoration, comfortable beds, big, quiet room, good breakfast, very nice owner.

Review 3:Such charm and typically French. Liked the room, decor, atmosphere, breakfast, location etc etc. Madame was delightful and it was like being welcomed into her home. Brilliant!

Review 4:Nothing - although please see comments in the "like" section

Review 5:Everything - however if you weren't expecting stairs and a washing/bathroom facility which is literally in the apartment (screens are provided) then you might be disappointed.

Review 6:If you book this b & b, you MUST let the owner know if you will arrive after 8pm. We were held up on Eurotunnel and when I called at 8.30 to say we'd be there at 10, was told abruptly to find another hotel. It took me several mnutes to persuade her to let us stay, but when we arrived she was fine.

Review 7:Delightful little Salon de The near the middle of Chalons, but we didn't notice any noise from traffic. Room was lovely, comfy bed, and a delicious breakfast with home made jams etc.

Review 8:Lovely atmospheric French Hotel. Very comfortable and excellent breakfast, best bread of our four week trip round Europe!! The owner could not have been more pleasant and helpful. An ideal place to stay fr an overnight on the way back to the Chunnell!

Review 9:The lack of lift.

Review 10:Very nice hotel with lovely friendly hotel manager. Our room was as top of a narrow winding wooden staircase and this made carrying my suitcase very tricky. No lift.

Review 11:Not really a negative but only gave 4 smiley faces for comfort of bed as my husband is 6ft 1 and the bed was too short to accommodate his feet!

Review 12:A lovely b&b above a tea shop. Excellent central location. Staff lovely, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are creatively styled, no corporate feel here. Will stay here again when in the area.

Review 13:My first impression of the Proprietor was rude and terrifying. Her first words to me were not of welcome but pointing to her wrist watch and saying that I was late! She was unhelpful and turned me away. Even though I had confirmed that I needed an extra bed for a child, but my child was too old and she did nothing to help or offer any solutions. So I was left stranded and having to pay for a room which I did not cancel or even use I have never met some one so obnoxious in my travels. Would suggest that she should not operate a B & B as she has no clue about customer service and it all seemed like too great an imposition on her.

Review 14:It is small and very charming hotel in the town center, the room is lovely decorated and the owner very friendly. The breakfast offers everthing you need - even with homemade jam - and the breakfast room induces to stay longer and to take one or two fotos :-)

Review 15:It was a very hot day when we arrived and the room was stiflingly hot. the cooler eventually got the temperature to be comfortable

Review 16:Quirky attic room, sleeps 4 but as they were full we got it for the normal price of a double. privacy of a small establishment.

Review 17:We stayed for one night but we will return as it is in a lovely location and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good and the room was very comfortable.

Review 18:Great B and B above a tea shop and located in the town centre. Friendly welcome and lovely bright, airy room. Air conditioning was an added bonus as weather very hot.

Review 19:Most cute accommodation we have ever had, above a little French tea shop, lovely service from a lovely French lady. Very central. Our kids say they have never tried hot chocolate any better, the whole breakfast was great and our room was so amazing with a pretty interior.

Review 20:There were 41 stairs to our room. Quite a climb with baggage and when you have health problems.

Review 21:Friendly staff although they did not speak very much English. Helpful though with maps etc.

Review 22:Steep stairs to get to top bedroom

Review 23:Friendly, amusing place. A bit like something out of 'Alo, Alo'. Madame was very helpful and very kind. An enjoyable experience, particularly if you have a sense of humour. The top storey bedroom is a sight to behold and impossible to describe. The loo has pink 'loo roll' wallpaper and a seat which is so high only people with long legs can sit and have their feet on the floor! Very different but still very good

Review 24:Nothing.

Review 25:This is a lovely, cosy, well decorated, perfectly located b&b. The staff are so friendly, as are the rest of the town, we felt very warmly welcomed and well looked after during our stay. Excellent location, central but on a side road. A bar opposite but no real noise after 10pm, Chalons-en-Champagne is a lovely town with a good choice of restaurants all within 5 minutes walk. I really could not recommend staying here enough. Breakfast is tasty pastries, yogurt, cheeses, bread and gorgeous homemade cake, all served with a friendly smile.

Review 26:We have stayed before. This time we had problems in Lyon with road closures so would be arriving much later than normal check in. Marie was on hand, couldn't have been better. We will be returning. Right on the champagne tours - what couldn't like!!!

Review 27:We loved everything.

Review 28:We loved the location, the staff and the willingness to go the extra mile. We had a mid morning tunnel appointment on the way home but were accommodated with an early breakfast, lots of fresh local produce. The family room was great and very clean.

Review 29:Bed had kind of a slope to it. Not terribly uncomfortable but could be a lot better.

Review 30:Cute little chambre d'hote (bed and breakfast) in the Champagne region. Small but clean and well decorated rooms above a little tea shop. Need to walk up two flights of curved stairs but not onerous. City paid parking very nearby. Decent selection of restaurants all around. Good price/benefit ratio. Has one nice large room suitable for small family. Met the family of four staying there and they thought it was great.

Review 31:We were staying for one night on our way skiing, and it was our twin daughters' 13th Birthday. When they saw our family at the hotel they shrieked with delight! It was beautiful and quite magical!

Review 32:Comfortable, I enjoyed the stay. This was a one night stop prior to a stay at a Chateau. Value wise, I wouldn't have minded staying here through that weekend. Friendly host, nice accommodation, great location (excellent restaurant and a market nearby), parking, good breakfast. I wouldn't mind making a trip back.

Review 33:Was disappointed after the rave reviews on this site. Breakfast was average - no fresh fruit or cereal. En-suite bathroom has no privacy.

Review 34:Location. Chanons is a pleasant destination.

Review 35:Getting to the room involved lots of steps up a narrow stairwell. However, this is typical of Europe.

Review 36:This hotel is quaint it is above a store in so you must go up several flights of steps to get to the room. We had our choice of rooms. Both were well appointed and done in a cheerful manner. At night we were given a key to the front door of the store in order to get to our room. How trustworthy!Breakfast was ready for us the next morning with lots of choices

Review 37:The room was a bit small and on the second floor up a steep corkscrew staircase.

Review 38:This is a very individual privately owned hotel with lots of cute decorations. It is very clean with newly refurbished bathrooms.

Review 39:Up steep stairs to second floor. Over a shop/cafe business with a few letting rooms. Picked the larger/lighter room on the front of the building and the noise from the late night bar opposite kept us awake until the early hours. The bed was so uncomfortable it also contributed to lack of sleep.

Review 40:Central location. Decor

Review 41:We had a nice welcome and staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location in the centre of town but no noise at night. We were in a 2-bedded room up in the attic which was homely, stylish and a bit quirky (in a good way!). Lots of steep stairs do no good for those with mobility problems. Lovely breakfast served early to suit us.

Review 42:Parking was around the corner and was not free in the day time. We arrived early and had to wait to check in - though this wasn't really a problem as we went for a walk in town.

Review 43:Loved the quirkiness of the Marie Caroline also very central to the town squares. Great big breakfast, free wifi and welcoming and helpful staff.

Review 44:Bit of road noise if you sleep with the window open. Flight of stairs could be an issue to those with mobility issues.

Review 45:It's 'different', sharing the wonderfully decorated shop with the owners. Warm welcome.

Review 46:The Pink Room is lined in tongue and groove planks that gently 'click' all night as temperature and humidity changes. Not an issue but a bit quirky.

Review 47:Great location. Nearby parking. Cosy room. Good breakfast. Good wifi. Helpful staff who spoke English.

Review 48:The bath plug seemed to leak water every so often (minor maintenance issue!). Otherwise excellent!

Review 49:This room was a fantastic find above a tea shop in Chalons. We were most impressed by the friendliness of both the mother and daughter running La Maison who went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. The room (4 person) was very stylishly decorated (vintage elements combined with mirrors, fun lighting and clever curtains/screening). The overall effect is something very unique, quirky and tasteful. We did not have time to see that much of Chalons but what we saw was pretty (though clearly a working town) and La Maison seemed well situated. Breakfast was very good, especially the homemade jams and pancakes. Thank you!

Review 50:Long climb up to attic room. Room large but inconvenient because of beams. Bed linen dark grey!! We were promised a parquet floor and a separate bathroom but had neither. Floor was painted boards and bath in corner of room. Toilet so high off the floor left legs dangling. No plugs in basins so had to let taps run while shaving etc. Mugs provided for hot drinks had no handles and were useless as a result. Slight smell of drains from toilet.

Review 51:Continental breakfast good, fresh bread, croissants and pains au chocolate all delicious. Fruit juice and coffee good as well.

Review 52:NOTHING!

Review 53:This is a hidden gem! Tucked away in a quiet part of town. Took a few minutes to find! Looks like a shop/cafe from the front. Very pretty. Marie and Caroline (mother & daughter) were extremely welcoming and very friendly. We had the attic room - amazing! Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Outstanding. Breakfast was lovely - inclusive. Fresh and homemade jams etc. YUM! The children absolutely loved all of it. Parking round the back -2 mins walk. V Safe and v cheap. Till 7pm then free all night. Fantastic start to our holidays. Didn't want to leave!!!!! Will definitely visit again.

Review 54:It was a shame we couldn't get in before 17.00 and good directions are needed because of all the narrow one-way streets.

Review 55:The house was very central (once we'd found it!) and convenient for everything in town. The room was well presented and very clean. Breakfast was very good, with a range of cereals and breads. Quirky & lovely!

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:Rooms above a small shop serving breakfasts, lunch and sweets. Friendly staff. Close to restaurants with a bar across the street. Room small but comfortable.

Review 58:We felt ignored by the owner as she did not acknowledge us at all when we wanted to pay our bill.

Review 59:Clean comfortable rooms. And all in walking distance to the shops and local amenities.

Review 60:Stairs up were very steep and would not suit the elderly or infirm. The bath/shower integral with room was not ideal.

Review 61:Location close to town centre. Parking good locally and free overnight until 9.00 a.m. Low cost thereafter. We only stayed one night in passing. Room at top of building was interesting and quite comfortable.

Review 62:The rain that was coming in, no elevator for my mum(81 jears old).

Review 63:The hospitality of the staff. The beautiful house with the stairs, the room. The nice breakfast.

Review 64:Not the easiest place to find (without sat nav) but well worth looking for.

Review 65:Owner extremely helpful and friendly. Her English was good enough to give us directions over the phone when we got lost. All done in good humour. Room was delightful and breakfast was delicious. Will go back.

Review 66:Beautiful little place , very quaint, very clean with a superb breakfast much more than the usual bread and preserves. The room is above a cafe du the which again is really lovely.

Review 67:Friendly host, delicious bakeries and jam for breakfast with home made yoghurt. Centre of town. Charming & personalised B&B.

Review 68:This place is a real little treasure. We had a wonderful experience and would not hesitate in recommending!!!

Review 69:Lovely B&B above a tea shop.

Review 74:Value, quality, decor, welcome, friendliness.

Review 75:Very friendly and helpful lady who spoke good English. Close to town centre.

Review 76:Nice room, excellent breakfast and location.

Review 77:As a family room, 2 double beds is not ideal.

Review 78:The most helpful host. Central location and parking is available for free 5 mins walk away.

Review 79:Good location
