Reviews for Hotel d'Angleterre

Review 1:Aircon in the room didn't seem to be working, however did that old fashioned thing an opened a window and everything was great!

Review 2:The friendly staff, the welcome fruit cocktail, the jacuzzi bath and the amazing food.

Review 3:No shower - shower head in the bath. Noisy restaurant being cleared out at 23.30 below my room. Very noisy plumbing. Being blamed by receptionist for her error with the bill - "Le monsieur s'est trompé!"

Review 4:Well located. Road noise well isolated.

Review 5:Chalons en Champagne is close to the motorway and we were driving from Italy to the UK and so the town was a convenient place to stop. The hotel is in the middle of Chalons - which is not big! - but we were able to go to look at the local, and impressive, market and a couple of decent bars. The hotel site is shared with an excellent family butcher - from 1903 - and we bought some stuff for lunch there for the next days travel. The hotel has a Michelin 1 star restaurant but we ate very well in the associated bistro which was pretty full for a Tuesday evening "in the sticks".

Review 6:Nothing bad to say.

Review 7:Worth 5 stars! Hotel has a Fantastic Michelín star restaurant. Breakfast and dining is exceptional! Very nice location in the center of the town. Private locked parking.

Review 8:The bedroom we had was quite dated and the bed too hard for us.

Review 9:The staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the Brasserie downstairs and both food and service were excellent. The cuisine comprised of classic French dishes - executed to perfection. Breakfast also very good.

Review 10:Whilst food of high standard it was also very expensive.

Review 11:Beautiful location although if staying more than one night ask for non forest view as you get amazing views on the other side of the hotel

Review 12:Wish we could of stayed longer to enjoy the wonderful hospitality.

Review 13:Amazing staff, we arrived at 10.30pm after a terrible journey. The restaurant was closed but they prepared us plates of cheese and a glass of wine... could not fault the professionalism of the Management

Review 14:In house restaurant wildly expensive

Review 15:Nice room, parking available if reserved. Staff very helpful. Very up market, very French breakfast. Walking distance of main square and reasonable restaurants.

Review 16:The bed, bathroom, it had a bath, secure car parking , lovely breakfast it had a huge variety. We had a meal the night before and it was superb we loved everything.

Review 17:Did not enjoy my supper as too much salt in both my dishes. We both felt the room (41) needs updating. The hotel was difficult to find.

Review 18:Excellent breakfast. My wife enjoyed her supper, too.

Review 19:Breakfast at €16 per person was expensive for what it was.

Review 20:Good location in the city with effective double glazing and air-conditioning. Comfortable mattress with blankets rather than a duvet (real plus point for us). Wifi was fast. The restaurant served excellent food.

Review 21:Went down to the restaurant and told there were no tables available, even though it didn't look that busy. I feel that they didn't think we looked well enough dressed. When we asked if they could recommend a local restaurant, we were told they couldn't possibly do that as they didn't know our taste.

Review 22:Overall the staff were very helpful and the hotel was very clean.

Review 23:Only small thing - if you do not like sleeping with air conditioning on - opening the windows is not an option - too much noise outside from some kind of machines.

Review 24:Location is great - city and also the hotel location. Breakfast was very good though at a price of 16€pp. Restaurant seems to be very good too, unfortunately did not have the chance to try it due to event in the city centre, which me and my wife wanted to join

Review 25:Nothing, no complaints, just a really good and reasonably priced hotel

Review 26:This was a last minute booking, due to issues with the Eurotunnel, meaning that we could not get further into France. What a find. While I cannot comment on the town, the hotel was great. It is really unusual, rooms are large and really interesting. Bed was exceptionally comfortable. The young man who checked us in did a great job, despite our language barrier (my very tired brain doing French). He was a star Would seriously go back to this hotel - very secure parking, especially useful if like us you are traveling with a fully loaded car

Review 27:Top attic room with skylights and no view. Shower was a bit of a trickle.

Review 28:Excellent breakfast. Huge spacious room with jacuzzi. Chalfont shopping and restaurants limited. Centre is quite pretty. Outskirts not. But has a brilliant park for walks and dogs.

Review 29:nothing negative to add.

Review 30:We arrived early & were welcomed + approved to park off-road at the hotel. Very convenient to enable our first overnight stay on our drive & cycle "Tour" . A very convenient & centrally located hotel.

Review 31:Small, friendly boutique style hotel. Everything you might need and a wonderful (if pricey) restaurant. Will stay here again! There was private parking available, but in a very small car park.

Review 32:The receptionist on arrival was rather offhand and superior. Her successor next morning was excellent.

Review 33:Central location. High standard of furnishings and decor. Excellent restaurant in Jacky Michel, but pricey.

Review 34:The hotel car park has limited spaces, but there is a public car park opposite the hotel.

Review 35:Excellent restaurant. We ate in the brasserie which has a relaxed atmosphere and produced food of a high standard. The breakfast was also very good with an excellent choice of things to eat and drink.

Review 36:Wine overpriced.

Review 37:Excellent hotel, staff, service and food,Brasserie meal not the cheapest but excellent quality of style and ingredients, interesting and varied menu.Handy for a walk around the town centre.

Review 38:Staff were polite, welcoming and most polite. Rooms were excellent, spacious and comfortable. Choice of restaurants with excellent food. We took our dog who was welcomed and enjoyed the meals as much as we all did! the hotel is a few minutes walk from the main square and shopping, ideally situated.

Review 39:The free hotel parking will only accommodate 4 cars - we were lucky. There is undercover parking for a fee but we didn't need to explore this option. The car park opposite was full when we arrived. If parking is important to you, you might want to find out more about the undercover parking before you book your stay.

Review 40:We enjoyed a spacious room at the top of the building and the aircon was very welcome. We found it extremely comfortable. We did not eat in either of the hotel's 2 restaurants and found somewhere much more our budget within the town. Would certainly stay again.

Review 41:All fine

Review 42:Easy to get to and away from by car. Safe parking in hotel courtyard Lovely meal in Brasserie (very full on Sat night - we booked) Smallish but comfortable bedroom. Good size bathroom with bath and shower. Whilst somewhat expensive, breakfast was very good - worth it if hungry. Good distance for stop off to/from Calais

Review 43:All the windows we're roof lights, so no views, and a water pipe running the length of the ceiling was noisy all night After dinner my husband soon started to suffer sever stomach cramps and spent the night vomiting. We both consumed the same food with the exception of the fois gras . When I told the young lady at reception the next morning she was polite but no sympathy or compensation was offered. The two courses and a bottle of wine came to €190, so not inexpensive and two days later my husband is still not fully recovered. Would not recommend

Review 44:The welcome was excellent and the deluxe room was adequate in terms of space and the bathroom was well appointed The restaurant is very well appointed and the staff are attentive and professional

Review 45:Only having one night there

Review 46:We only spent a night here, but it was really enjoyable. We arrived and parked in the hotel's car park. We were greeted in a very friendly manner, provided with a fruit drink then escorted to our room, where everything was clearly explained to us including where extra pillows were and how to lower the blinds etc. the room was beautifully and tastefully decorated with a marble bathroom. Wifi worked well and there was an abundance of plugs for the many devices! We dined in the restaurant which was wonderful although very expensive, but it was haute cuisine, if they don't have a Michelin star, they will have at some point. Best of all our small dogs were welcomed everywhere which means a lot to us. Highly recommend. The town too.

Review 47:Room was excellent and we had a very warm welcome on arrival. It has 2 restaurants, one of which is gastronomic but we were only on a stopover en route to the Alps, so did not use them. But we will look to stay here in the summer

Review 48:We had a table reserved for dinner and I must say that the food was probably the worst we have encountered in a long time. There is not enough space here to go into detail.

Review 49:Nice location and comfortable room.

Review 50:We didn't receive a very friendly welcome. The restaurant in the hotel was full on the night we stayed and when we asked if the could recommend anywhere else we were told "it's the city centre there are lots of places to eat". We only had a bath in our bedroom so you may need to ask for shower if you want one.

Review 51:Room quiet given its central location and clean.

Review 52:The main restaurant / brasserie is not brilliant re food! Ie pigs trotters with foie gras were mostly fat in fried breadcrumbs. The grand marnier soufflé was not a proper cooked soufflé, very sweet with just a blow torch browned top!

Review 53:Pet friendly and a decent clean hotel,

Review 54:A little difficult to find but otherwise it was all good.

Review 55:Hotel was well positioned, comfortable and all we needed for a stop over. It was quiet and the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. We ate in the brasserie which was excellent with good but not intrusive service and gave good value.

Review 56:The room decoration was bizarre and unwelcoming. All drab drown and olive green. One wall was all smokey mirrors. The bed was uncomfortable and hard and had what looked like old thin blankets rather than a duvet and we had a superior room!

Review 57:The staff was friendly and service oriented The food was lovely albeit expensive

Review 58:Breakfast should be included in the price of the room. EUR 16 extra per person was a bit much.

Review 59:Clean and comfortable hotel with attentive staff. Fabulous restaurant and brasserie.

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Our bedroom and bathroom were both very big. An excellent hotel all round.although in the centre it was very quiet due to double double glazed widows and electric blinds.

Review 62:Comfortable and stylishly decorated rooms Well equipped bathroom with bath and shower Dressing gowns supplied Quiet Very efficient and friendly staff Excellent food in the Brasserie, and a Michelin starred restaurant too. Secure parking Excelllent location for sightseeing in the town.

Review 63:It did seem a bit expensive. It closes noon on a Sunday.

Review 64:The restaurant serves Michelin star food which was very good, one of the reasons we chose the hotel on our way back to Eurotunnel. Rooms were spacious and clean.

Review 65:lovely large room with views out over the roof tops Nice brasserie Helpful staff great location just off motorway and near to main Champagne tourist towns but cheaper accomodation

Review 66:Car parking was tricky.

Review 67:The staff were very helpful, and were waiting in the car park to help with our luggage. The food in the brasserie was really excellent. In fact, it was probably the best we had on this holiday.

Review 68:The room was well appointed and the staff very attentive. We were met on arrival with a refreshment and directed to our room, a rare thing these days. We had booked a table in their restaurant and enjoyed a superb meal if a tad expensive. We would recommend this hotel.

Review 69:Receptionist a little abrupt - perhaps that's just the French way!

Review 70:Very good restaurant. Excellent cuisine. Attentive and very friendly restaurant staff. Surprisingly lovely ancient, historic town. Wish we had had more time to explore.

Review 71:We had a corner room which was noisy and stuffy, didn't want to open the windows. Need some lighter bedding as an alternative. Room at the end of a gloomy corridor. Tried the bistro on first visit, rushed and off-hand

Review 72:Central, have stayed several years on the way from the South to England. Very helpful. Comfortable, fab breakfast

Review 73:Jacky Michel's restaurante. For a 1 Star Michelin Restaurante, the food was nothing special. Very traditional (boring) menu, overpriced wine and the delivered quality was below standard (meat was cold). Instead of apologies, we were dismissed with a shrug.

Review 74:Reception; friendly and helpful staff at Hotel

Review 75:food over ambitious and unjustifiably expensive . take a sandwich or eat elsewhere in town . room on road and therefor noisy . bed ok , just.

Review 76:staff good and helpful . shame about the rest.

Review 77:The main restaurant ignored the diet sheet for food intolerances even though the waiter could list the items on it. No changes were made and some of the food served could not be eaten by one of our party. Their attitude was, 'well your partner can eat it instead', hardly what you expect from an expensive Michelin star restaurant.

Review 78:The staff with the exception of the restaurant. The wonderful breakfast.

Review 79:The hotel is very well located in the city center and has an excellent gastronomic restaurant. We had an offer having an excellent room with nice room throughtout the cathedral. Nice staff.

Review 80:The room was nice but a little small.

Review 81:The staff we really friendly & helpful. We only used this hotel as a stop over but it was comfortable enough a little expensive though for what you get. A nice little town.

Review 82:Великолепный отель в центре города с очень приятными номерами и дружелюбным персоналом. А ресторан при отеле просто выше всяческих похвал - игра вкусов и чудесной эстетики!

Review 83:Staff friendly and helpful, my husband does not walk far - went out of their way to assist. Food excellent. Excellent overnight stop - could have stayed longer.

Review 84:Parking in the hotel is expensive, and should be free for the room price. The restaurant prices are sky high, and we ate well in town for a fraction.

Review 85:Prompt service and an excellent breakfast

Review 86:Restaurant was overpriced and no menus in English. Area as a whole was a massive let down.

Review 87:The room was a nice surprise, comfortable with a large bathroom. Staff were friendly and parking was available free of charge

Review 88:Not cheap but worth the money. Although many of the staff spoke some english it would have been useful if there had been an english version of the brasserie restaurant menu, some of the dishes were quite complicated so translation is not very easy. (very good food by the way)

Review 89:A very elegant hotel set in the middle of town, easy to find with satnav though and managed to use the hotels very limited free parking. The receptionist spoke excellent english which makes life easy for those of us with schoolboy french. Good food in the hotel but plenty of restaurants nearby as well

Review 90:Location on busy urban street corner and unprepossessing exterior appearance. Don't be put off though, once inside everything is lovely

Review 91:Excellent standards of decor and comfort and outstanding food and service in its first class brasserie

Review 92:No adverse comments

Review 93:Delightful hotel with friendly, helpful staff and a very spacious, comfortable room. We ate in the bistro and could not fault either the food or the service. We were pleased to see that an adapted room for wheelchair users was available. A thoroughlu enjoyable stay, which we hope to repeat.

Review 94:Excellent hotel for a stopover between the UK and Southern Germany. Excellent accommodation and a superb dinner followed by a good night 's sleep and then a super breakfast before setting off

Review 95:The hotel beds were uncomfortable and extremely noisy as the hotel is right in the middle of town on a roundabout

Review 96:The food was excellent The staff were excellent

Review 97:Expensive Restaurants with limited choice on the menu. If you cant get in the small car park - then secure parking options are limited. Stupid breakfast charge of 17.00 euro each - which we declined - Got breakfast for two at a local patisserie for 12,00 euros in total instead of 34 euros.

Review 98:Good central Location Small secure parking right at back of the hotel for 10 cars max though. Very nice Brasserie and Gourmet restaurant on site but very expensive.

Review 99:WiFi was not working. Expensive breakfast. Parts of hotel could do with slight update. All minor points though!

Review 100:Friendly and helpful staff. Off road parking. Central location. Great bathroom!

Review 101:Menus in both restaurants were a bit limited, gourmet style, and had little choice for our daughter who is only 10.

Review 102:Central location. Lock up garage available. large rooms with fabulous bathrooms.

Review 103:Wifi didn't work which for price was a bit irritating, esp with older kids. Avoid restaurant unless you want a really eye watering bill. Food is OK but 600 Euros for three courses between 5 is punchy I reckon. It says with parking but some frankly large cars had been badly parked meaning only a few cars could get in and no one was policing it. If you have a heavily packed car like ours part of the reason I picked this was to NOT have to park on the street, I did have to for reasons above.

Review 104:Very central, and a good point to break a journey to tunnel from South of France. Comfy rooms (although noisy if you don't like air con and want to open window) and good bathrooms.

Review 105:Good breakfast buffet selection but expensive at €16. Reasonable meal in hotel Brasserie but disappointed in meal in Jacky Michel Restaurant - mignon d'agneau rather less than tender accompanied by hard peas.

Review 106:Proximity to centre of Chalons which is a good halfway point between Switzerland and UK and an interesting town itself. Comfort and quietness of our room (50) facing rear of hotel but most rooms face a busy street and may not be as quiet.

Review 107:Breakfast a bit expensive but very good

Review 108:Friendly welcome with drink and charming receptionist. Lovely room Excellent dinner in Brasserie with top class service Definite worth it for pampering

Review 109:Although this is a non-smoking hotel and room there was still a faint smell of cigarette smoke from a previous occupant. Light on bathroom mirror did not work. Poor shower head. We elected to eat in the Brasserie which was full however the food quality was not up to the standard expected and although there were choices on the menu the three courses were "obligatoire" and it was not possible to have just one course at a one course price. Consequently a disappointing meal turned out to be relatively expensive. It would seem that the Champagne region is geared to maximising income from tourists and travellers whilst minimising their own efforts.

Review 110:Perfect location, friendly helpful staff with English speaking receptionist. Clean room with comfortable king size bed. Very nicely decorated to provide good ambience.

Review 111:The restaurants appeared to be wonderful, however after a long drive we wanted something lighter.

Review 112:The overall impression of the hotel was excellent. It re-established my confidence in French hotels.

Review 113:The bathroom would have benefitted from a blind, not for privacy but to block the very bright (and hot) sunlight!

Review 114:Excellent food, modern décor; very comfortable room.

Review 115:The only minor thing we didn't like was that there were no in-room facilities to make tea and coffee.

Review 116:We were given an upgrade to a superior room, which was lovely and quiet. The hotel is ideally situated in the middle of town, and Chalon en C is small enough to get a taste of on a single afternoon's visit.

Review 117:Some trouble finding the hotel despite using Satnav, which, although inputted the hotel address, left us about 1 or 2 "blocks" short. Not a major problem though.

Review 118:Excellent.restaurant with attentive service, although quite expensive. Wine list I thought was particularly overpriced with very little choice of medium/lower priced wines which we all know can be found and are quite quaffable.

Review 119:The hotel was simple. Furnitures in the room were out of date. No condition for hair.

Review 120:Free parking. Easy to find. A nice restursnt next to the hotel. Good internet connection

Review 121:The breakfast was a too expensive - we opted for a pastry from the market instead.

Review 122:Excellent quality food in the Brasserie, and a comfortable bed too. If only more French restaurants were as good as this. A great place to stop en route to or from Calais.

Review 123:A minor niggle is having to reverse the car into the very tight parking area.

Review 124:The Brasserie restaurant in the hotel is really excellent and very good value. Same kitchen as the Michelin restaurant adjacent. Jacky Michel is very present and amiable.

Review 125:Apart from one person, the staff were not helpful and quite over-fussy. The meal in the Bistro was poor.

Review 126:The room was good and the ensuite was satisfactory.

Review 127:Centrally located with car park. Highly competent staff. Comfortable, clean rooms and a fine Kitchen.

Review 128:The only down side for me was being a vegetarian we had to go out for dinner as there were no vegetable options on the menu

Review 129:Very clean and well presented . Delicious food in the brasserie .

Review 130:Breakfast seemed expensive so didn't try it

Review 131:Bistro restaurant exceptional. Room warm and clean.

Review 132:all fine

Review 133:Excellent price/quality ratio

Review 134:Our stay was very short so didn't notice any.

Review 135:Very central location. Pet friendly. Good restaurant.
