Reviews for Ambrose Hotel

Review 1:We were only using as a base as visiting family so it didn't affect us but unable to get onto the free wifi. We didn't ask staff as just used mobile network. I am sure had we have raised a concern they would have looked into it.

Review 2:Lovely comfortable room light airy spotlessly clean. Friendly staff. Only 10 minute walk to town. Free car park.

Review 3:Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Regulars also helped create happy and friendly atmosphere and the artist on at the weekend were great which also made it a great weekend.

Review 4:Didnt like room hotrl staff hotel . Had bar stool for chair wobbly dressing table. Hot and cold water worked opposite way round breakfast disgusting. Hash browns on all 4 plates burnt hard food greasy and fatty. Empty bottles hand wash and shampoo left in room. Old wardrobe stuck inside opening of old cupboard and was wonky. Internet said 15 mins to lake district it actually took 50mins

Review 5:Nothing at all

Review 6:Live music under our room blasting till well after midnight. Floor boards were actually shaking. We travelled with very young children and they were unable to sleep.

Review 7:Breakfast was lovely.

Review 8:No lift which meant that I had to keep putting the pushchair in the car and we were on the top floor but there was only 2 floor so was not to much of a problem

Review 9:This hotel is great location for the south lake zoo which is 10mins drive away. The staff were very pleasant

Review 10:We didn't realise upon booking that we would be staying in a pub, the name hotel on our booking didn't suggest it so we were surprised and disappointed to have to drag our bags and take our children through a booze smelling bar. We asked for a travel cot as travelling with a 4 month old baby and when we were given it late the staff did not even know how to put it up - lucky I did! The Ambrose Hotel is clean on a basic level, although shabby furniture and stained carpets didn't leave us feeling we were staying in the most hygeinic establishment. We had a very sunken mattress, a hole in the side of our bed and a broken shower. The area which the hotel is situated - well what can I say - we were unsure whether leaving our car would be safe! I would say the Ambrose Hotel as nothing else but basic workmans digs and would not recommend unless the only thing you are looking for is a nice breakfast!

Review 11:The Ambrose hotel is in a great location if needing to be near local amenities, such as shops and restraunts, which we found helpful. The bar serves lovely food and breakfast was lovely to wake up to, however a menu would have made it easier when choosing cooked options. Wifi password was easily available and could access constant unlike other accommodation in the area.

Review 12:It was situated on top of the pub . It's actually the part of the pub which put me off my hubby wasn't happy about it as we don't drink. My favourite make up brush was missing after the room was cleaned.i was really annoyed.

Review 13:Staff was friendly

Review 14:The bathroom was very tired and could do with being modernized.

Review 15:Location was excellent and the staff were lovely and very accommodating of our two young children. The room was very spacious and quiet during the night.

Review 16:Music night the loud music goes until 1PM so can't sleep. Breakfast both days we were not offered omelette saying cook can't do today busy but there were not that many people.

Review 17:Room and wifi was fantastic.

Review 18:We were disappointed that on a saturday night the restaurant wasn't open. After a very busy day we just wanted to stay in, but had to go elsewhere to eat.

Review 19:The friendly welcoming staff and their keenness to adapt to your needs by allowing us to have an early breakfast, which was excellent and plenty of it.

Review 20:Although the evening we stopped there was no entertainment on. If therewas I could imagine there may be some slight noise. However I can sayalthough there were a number customers in the barwe were right above theexit never heard a thing whilst in room & sleep not disturbed.

Review 21:Staff friendly & welcoming. The room was spacious, very clean wellstocked with tea, coffee etc. There were a few small marks on carpet, but not particularly noticeable. Beds extremely comfortable we all had agreat nights sleep. Good fresh decent linen Beer food good. Breakfastgood. Staff friendly, warming. Would definitely stay again. I havestayed at many places better cleaner than some Travelodges and hotelseverything decently priced.

Review 22:You can't avoid the fact this is above a pub, and as I entered to go to the hotel reception (inside the pub) I got lots of glares from the locals making me feel unwelcome straight away. (Yes I was carrying a suit bag, but I did have work to do there) The building looks tired inside and out and the room was a bit smelly as well. Shower (and bathroom) were really tired and actually quite a state; shower was very unimpressive.

Review 23:It was quiet, which was good especially considering it was above a pub. The staff were pleasant and helped push my opinion of the hotel up.

Review 24:No negatives to put regarding this hotel :-)

Review 25:This hotel is wonderful :-) the rooms are clean and the staff are lovley :-) full English breakfast served could no be better:-)

Review 26:Miserable location and town. Bar noise prohibited sleeping until midnight. Very overpriced for facilities, cleanliness, safety (would not recommend if single female)Just a dreary building in a poor area of town.

Review 27:That we escaped each day.

Review 28:Only downfall was the door to the en suite did not close all the way. I was travelling with my sister so no problem but could be awkward if not staying with close relatives/ friends.

Review 29:Very comfortable, clean and tidy, and spacious room. Breakfast was brilliant and couldn't fault the staff.

Review 30:Only small problem was a noisy extractor fan. Customers should be aware that rooms are above a lively pub.

Review 31:Friendly staff, convenient location, hotel car park.

Review 32:I was given a dormitory; poor choice for evening meal, so I ate out; pervasive smell of tobacco from pre-smoking ban carpets.

Review 33:Relatively clean, room supplies adequate

Review 34:the noise of other unthoughtful guests made it hard to be comfortablei would have left early had it not been in the early hours.

Review 35:the breakfast was top nosh

Review 36:My bedroom was positioned above bar area, I had loud music, singing talking and laughing until 1.30am. The TV only worked on channel 3 and there was only 1 bedside lamp in the room, which was of poor repair

Review 37:Cheap poor quality broken mattress. Tiny box room. Awful coffee, New Zealand Pale Ale was cider, had been working and travelling since 7am and was looking forward to an evening meal, they stopped serving food at 8pm!

Review 38:Honestly, I try and look for the positives. The waitress in the morning was cheery and friendly!

Review 39:Location looked a bit rough, but don't let that put you off. Totally based on the look of the area as nothing at all occurred, but we were a bit disappointed by the location on arrival.

Review 40:Exceptionally clean, good facilities, very welcoming staff, good breakfast, friendly locals

Review 41:The location over a bar was unfortunate although we knew this when we booked.

Review 42:Very clean accommodation. only stayed for one night which was planned. Very good breakfast. Staff very welcoming.

Review 43:The hotel from the outside looks tatty! it needs a good repaint... There were loud music on till 1am.. All families should be notified. b4 they book this hotel. over priced for what we got! Should be more around £60.00

Review 44:The staff were amazing...breakfast was great.. very very clean.. great with pets,

Review 45:W-Fi was bad and hardly worked. TV reception on the top floor kept cutting out.

Review 46:Staff were welcoming and accommodating. Room and bathroom was clean and beds were lovely and comfortable. Surrounded by shops so not a problem to find restaurants and supermarkets etc.

Review 47:The room was on the third floor and no lift. I was there with my grandparents and it was a bit difficult for them all the time to go up the stairs. I also think that the router of the wifi is located at ground floor, so I wasn't able to use it from my room

Review 48:It was the 5 of us and they gave us the large family room. It was really big and nice, toilet it's separate to the shower which was great for us, so we didn't have to wait, and the breakfast was really nice as well, you could choose from continental or english breakfast

Review 49:wi fi was a little hit and miss

Review 50:friendly staff large spacious room which was very clean and comfortable beds. able to make a hot drink-kettle in room + tea, coffee, milk and biscuits large tv and a sofa lovely freshly cooked breakfast with lots of choice overall spent a great 2 nights here

Review 51:very noisy outside, some idiot chanting songs at 2am,obviously beyond hotels control

Review 52:staff very good, only slept there, didn,t eat there as we were at golf tournament in ulverston until late

Review 53:Location. At 11:30 pm, there was a loud and long domestic argument out side our window in the neighboring housing complex. No in room air conditioning required open windows. No way to shut out noise.

Review 54:Breakfast

Review 55:We arrived late, there was a wedding reception on, the access to the rooms was to go through the reception, it would be better if the access would have been somewhere else (we felt like we gate crashed the wedding)

Review 56:The staff were helpful and friendly The bed was comfortable Good location

Review 57:noise, we were right above the wedding night do on the saturday so it was a tad noisey and those pesky seagulls!!!

Review 58:wi fi, room size, breakfast, smiths.

Review 59:Was awoken by other guests on each night during our stay but I can't hold the hotel responsible for their behaviour

Review 60:Staff were excellent, food was lovely

Review 61:Unfortunately the WiFi was very poor during my stay. The first day everything worked great then for the remaining 3 days it was very on and off. Was tricky doing business online since i got kicked off the internet every few minutes.

Review 62:The staff were very helpful Food was great Bar and snooker table 24h front desk is awesome! Do not undervalue this asset especially with early or late check out/in times. Nice breakfast Skysports - world cup was on :)

Review 63:The trap window was so high it was not easy to reach the catch to adjust ventilation.

Review 64:Everything worked, and the shower was excellent (always a critical aspect for me!).

Review 65:Parking- you just have to park on road outside which was quite busy when we arrived.

Review 66:Ladies at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming. Room was clean an had everything we needed. Full cooked breakfast in morning and highchair so son could eat with us. Only downside was parking as you just have to get a space on the road but apart from that it was a lovely place to stay. South lakes animal park is 10-15mins away by car an town centre was walking distance.

Review 67:At the weekend we had to go out and get an evening meal as this service was not available from Friday to Sunday?

Review 68:The breakfast. large English fry up made fresh to order, Service was nice and efficient. Room was large clean and tidy and capable of taking 3 adult. On site drinking/pool table.

Review 69:Accommodation above the pub with live music, which was a disturbance.
