Reviews for Marine Hotel

Review 1:The location was great right on the sea front . We had a family suite for five of us which had two rooms very spacious and great value for money . The Buffet breakfast had a very good selection .

Review 2:The windows are only single glazed and therefore you can hear the sea and the cars passing, although this wasn't much of a problem for me.

Review 3:Very friendly and helpful staff, the room was great with a big king sized bed and sufficient facilities. The view from my window was stunning of the sea front!

Review 4:Some staff friendly but Reception staff somewhat offhand and not particularly welcoming. Very small bathroom.

Review 5:Location and car park. Our second stay here, much better room than first tiny 'attic' room we had.

Review 6:We had the family suite at far end of building and you could feel it colder as approached that end of the building. We could not get the heating to come on in and in particular the middle room with bunk beds was freezing similarly bath room. The freezing bathroom was a particular shame as couldn't enjoy such a sumptuous huge bathroom. We asked on several occasions for heating to be turned on to no avail. We were lucky as visiting family in area so not staying in our rooms very much and with spare blankets the children were warm enough to sleep but it did mar an otherwise lovely stay

Review 7:Fantastic to walk out of front door straight onto the prom and to be able to see and feel the sea air. Being able to sleep 5 of us in a family room for 5 was fabulous

Review 8:Tiny bedroom Phone in room didn't work, we tried to fix it Bathroom smelt like a hospital Wifi password in booklet incorrect after ages of trying to then find out it's not the right one. After that it worked fine

Review 9:Bed was very comfy Shower worked well Breakfast very well made Helpful staff

Review 10:The location is brilliant, right opposite the sea. Room 227 and 228 were excellent. Clean carpets (I hate spotty carpets in a hotel makes you think everything is grubby) and clean bathrooms. Not huge rooms but they had everything you want. Small bay windows in the room with chairs and table so you can sit and watch the waves on the shore and the people walking along the prom. Nothing was too much for the staff to do. We arrived on a very busy Friday night when there was live music in the restaurant. My mother has a hearing condition that makes noise a real problem for her. They gave us our dinner with our own waitress in a seperate room. Breakfast was very good, cooked quickly to demand not left on a hot plate to congeal. Dinner menus were good and reasonable price. We would certainly stay there again.

Review 11:The room was very cold as the radiator did not work. The replacement fan heater was too noisy to leave on over night and the curtains were too thin to block out the street lights so we did not got much sleep. In the morning there was no hot water and when I mentioned this to the staff I was told that there was a problem with the boiler which was being looked at, but there was no apology.

Review 12:The location

Review 13:Our shower was extremely loud! And there was no safe, but I'm sure the staff would have found a solution if we'd needed one.

Review 14:We were there for for the Abertoir Horror Festival and were staying for three nights. We had booked a twin room but ended up in a family room due to a computer mix-up! The receptionist was very gracious and gave us the bigger room anyway, which we were very grateful for. The staff were excellent throughout, always smiling and friendly and the main bar was spacious and well stocked. The breakfasts were good. The beds are clean and comfortable. The position of the hotel on the seafront is perfect! We loved watching the waves crash in. Aberystwyth town centre is just a couple of minutes walk away with plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. We had a favourite coffee shop immediately: Coffee #1, which is very close by. And I would highly recommend the brisket at Backyard BBQ. All in all, an excellent visit.

Review 15:The sleepless night caused by drunk, drug influenced teenagers from Young Farmers rampaging throughout the hotel all night long with absolutely no supervision. It was horrendous and to think I had to pay £80 pounds for the pleasure,

Review 16:I liked the location and the peace and serenity following my first nights stay which was undoubtedly the worst hotel experience I've ever experienced and hopefully will never experience again.

Review 17:Do not take a sea view room when a gale is blowing! The rooms have no double glazing. It is like trying to sleep in a wind tunnel. I tried to move rooms and was sent to a room that was already occupied. The room allocation apoears totally chaotic. Terribly overpriced.

Review 18:Friendly staff. Good food.

Review 19:The double room was very small with a sloping ceiling so you could only stand up at one side of the bed, decoration was dated ,one lamp didn't work and the tiny shower room was filthy. The window frame was rotten and let in a cold draft that moved the curtains. The heating appeared to be on a timer (in mid November) so the room was cold for the majority of the night and there was no form of heating at all in the shower room. The sink had no hot water and the shower temperature was at best warm and stopped all together in the middle of my shower. The sink was cracked and the floor was mouldy as was the shower head. Very disappointed and have stayed at far better hotels in the area for less money.

Review 20:The breakfast was good.

Review 21:Large function in hotel on the same night of us, meaning that the bar was over-run with guests and our party felt out of place in amongst them. Loud music from disco until after 1am preventing a decent nights sleep

Review 22:Bar had very little atmosphere and no real ales. Only had one drink there and went on to a better bar nearby.

Review 23:Bay window and comfortable chairs so we could both sit and appreciate the sea views.

Review 24:Breakfast was great a good selection . Apart from the sausages they weren't very nice ! Great location lovely room with sea view and jacuzzi. Would stay again if I'm in aber

Review 25:Some areas of hotel looking a little tired. I think if we had not paid for the best quality room we might have been disappointed. Breakfast variable, better on day 2 than 1.

Review 26:Good quality room with seating area overlooking the sea. Great view. Nice bathroom. Staff helpful.

Review 27:The bathroom floor was dirty, under the trolley with the hot breakfast food was dirty and there was a fork underneath it which looked as if it had been there a while. The tablecloths were dirty, any other hotel changes the table linen between guests. The whole feel of the place seemed everything was being done 'on the cheap'. Wouldn't stay again.

Review 28:the location

Review 29:Staff un the restaurant were not very welcoming with the exception of the East European lady who was very attentive.

Review 30:The location and views were spot on.

Review 31:Not a lot of complimentary toiletries even though we were in a deluxe room. Toilet roll was not a fresh one, it was half used by previous guest It was very noisy on the Saturday night as wedding guests were drinking & smoking on front steps. Did notice a polite sign but maybe a member of staff should have a polite word

Review 32:Excellent breakfast.Excellent a la carte maybe a bit too much on plate! Staff very friendly & obliging

Review 33:Students are prolific on the sea front, they were noticable by their banter between 1030pm and 4am. But they did apologise when told to "SHURRUP"

Review 34:Room furnishings were excellent Sea view at Sunset was magnificent And in October it was brilliant sunshine Extremely polite chap assisted at breakfat

Review 35:We had a deluxe room. The room was quite dusty. We noticed when we first arrived the curtain had come away in a number of places. It took 3 visits to reception to get this fixed (we only stayed 1 night!) Breakfast is buffet style we arrived at half 8 and the breafast items were luke warm.

Review 36:The hotel is on the front close to the castle and Victorian hydraulic train. Jacuzzi bath was lovely.

Review 37:Poor standard of fittings and cleanliness in ensuite. Faeces under toilet rim visible when sitting in bath. Rubbish shower. All furniture in bedroom seemed to be on a slope and things slid off!!!

Review 38:Location.spectacular views. Close to Town

Review 39:The staff did not inform us that there was to be a Wedding Reception to be held on the last night of our stay, and therefore we had a disturbed night until about 1.30 am. Nevermind the drunk trying to enter our room at 5.00 am!!

Review 40:Although at the back of the property, the room was very comfortable with a Jacuzzi Bath. It is a very convenient base to explore the town, front and Constitution Hill.

Review 41:My shower wouldn't work properly and so I had no hot water. I raised this twice at reception and they did nothing about it at all, and offered no refund. Wifi was very slow, cooked breakfast was very poor.

Review 42:Location

Review 43:Very poor Wi-Fi connection (not working at all!!) Bar at the hotel closed very early, after returning back from a meal out in the town, we were told to hurry up and order a drink as the bar was just about to close.

Review 44:Wonderful family room. Great views from our room. Staff were very friendly. Food excellent. Location fabulous.

Review 45:Like many sea front hotels parking can be an issue. We managed to get a space at the rear of the hotel though where there was a small number of spaces available

Review 46:We had a small but nice room with a sea view. Breakfast was excellent

Review 47:Room was small and with a single and double bed it was difficulty to move around and to store cases. We arrived on the day of a large wedding reception in full swing late afternoon so no parking available and the bar packed out in the evening so had to go elsewhere for food.Never book here when a wedding reception is scheduled !!

Review 48:Excellent view and memories for my wife who lived in this hotel for three years as a university student from 1947-50.

Review 49:no bad experience but the wi fi was very limited.

Review 50:Old world charm with great facilities & location - sea view gorgeous. We enjoyed our short stay very much.

Review 51:There should be more options and flexible timing for restaurants since this is purely a tourist location. Last dinner time at 8pm is terrible, breakfast timing between 8 to 9:30 is also not enough on Sunday morning, there are many more issues on room service catering, if you miss breakfast you have no options but to wait until lunch time which is 12:30 pm. This is not international standard, to attract foreign tourist they should do something more.....

Review 52:Location of Hotel is wonderful.

Review 53:Staff seemed uninterested in guests. There were some very rowdy drinkers in the bar that used foul language and aggressive behaviour that this was not challenged, even though there were a dozen guests sitting in reception so they didn't have to be near them.

Review 54:Sea view from window was great.

Review 55:Only one issue. In spite of at least 6 attempts we couldnt get a toilet roll!Reception said it would happen but it was on the 7th trip there we got one

Review 56:location, sea views, breakfast.Staff were friendly and mostly helpfull.Hotel was peacefull

Review 57:Had to ask for sweeters at breakfast - weren't readily available. No polyunsaturated spread (Flora) would expect that to be a standard at a 3* hotel. Wi-fi slow in the room, and single room rather cramped, no-where to put towels in the bathroom

Review 58:Breakfast buffet - able to select what you want Good position on seafront

Review 59:Room was so small and had so much stuff crammed into it one of us had to sit on the bed to allow other to move around (and both of us are slim). Breakfast adequate but very little choice of starters, no natural yoghurt or fresh fruit options. Whole breakfast was self service, even the toast and teas and coffees. Wouldn't have minded any of the above if we weren't paying £130 per night for the room. Would have expected it to be priced well below £100 for what we received. Ordered a bar meal on a quiet night, it took 45 minutes to produce one sandwich and one omelette.

Review 60:Excellent location. Spacious, comfortable public rooms. Off road parking much appreciated. Friendly. Room had been updated so clean modern design. Bar menu varied and food good eventually.

Review 61:staff not very friendly, breakfast room very busy with just one staff working. tables not very clean, food not very good.

Review 62:the bedroom was amazing, beautiful view, comfortable beds. shower not very good, difficult to keep a nice temperature

Review 63:Room decor was a bit tired & windows were filthy. Very expensive for what it was.

Review 64:Cleaner was lovely, made chit chat & was very pleasant. Nice quiet hotel, great location & view. Room was bright & clean.

Review 65:Only one small quibble is that the free wifi isn't up to much, couldn't log in, and finally when we did reception was very poor.

Review 66:Second visit to the marine, lovely hotel and facilities are if a high standard. Breakfast was amazing and the kids loved it! Thankyou

Review 67:First room poor very small for a double and short flight of stairs after requesting ground floor complained and were moved to a sea view room straight away

Review 68:Location evening meal good

Review 69:Sadly, the bar meal was not very good. Half roast chicken was dried out, baked potato drenched in butter, so it was mushy, and salad uninspired. A couple of electrical issues, - frayed iron flex, and positioning of kettle flex dangerous.

Review 70:Room had beautiful sea view with table and chairs by the window. Excellent night's sleep - so quiet and peaceful. Everything clean and comfortable, and plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, shower gel and soap. Excellent breakfast.

Review 71:Lift was very slow, limescale on shower head, cobwebs in bathroom, loose taps, tv remote taped together.

Review 72:Sea view with comfy chairs to sit and relax in, spa bath, four poster bed.

Review 73:Only very small quibble would be about the early check in we requested, we requested to check in between midday and 1 pm so that we would not be hanging around with suite cases for hours waiting to check in, request did it make it to the hotel, however we were aloud to check in at midday the staff apologised and honoured our request within minimal fuss...

Review 74:Very nice spacious family room for 5 people... Beautiful sea views from the bay windows... Friendly and helpful staff and everything provided in our room was if a high standard. Breakfast was fantastic as their was a huge choice and everything was cooked and served to a high quality. I would definitely like to book again soon. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.

Review 75:Very overpriced, staff unhelpful, our room had not been cleaned properly, found and empty water bottle and pen under dressing table When I complained on paying the bill all I got was 'I'll inform housekeeping'. If there had not been other people waiting to check out I would have argued for a refund. Not good enough for a £125 room.

Review 76:The location.

Review 77:We stayed in the family room. Friendly staff, great breakfast, great location overall really good value for money especially for a family of 5. Loved having the window open at night and listening to the waves crashing!

Review 78:dinner: no worth of the price, we did't get what we ordered the landlady didn't greet us in the morning or while leaving: we rented 2 rooms for 1 night and had all 5 (parente and 3 children) dinner at the hotel!!!

Review 79:fantastic location

Review 80:Nothing only having to come home lol.

Review 81:We had a family room 2 teenagers and myself.plenty of space for each of us to chillout very clean .breakfast spoiled for choise .definitely come again it was our third visit .

Review 82:Main meal portions were too big with unwanted piles of vegetables!

Review 83:Great views over the bay and ease of access to the esplanade for our elderly relatives. And the sun shone like being in the med!☀️

Review 84:We found some not properly cleaned glasses and plates. WiFi is working randomly and unpredictably.

Review 85:Staff was friendly and practical. The wiev of the seaside was wonderful sitting in the chair in our room.

Review 86:Room and bathroom was very dated and tatty. If we'd have had a nice view it would have made up for it but we were overlooking the bins at the back so disappointed all round. All th beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows very hard.

Review 87:Location was right on the sea front and breakfast had a good choice.

Review 88:Not enough shelf space in bathroom

Review 89:Location helpful friendly staff stayed in family room 121 large room with great views and very very comfortable for two grandparents and two children 9&11 lots of space food great even for children

Review 90:We have stayed at Hoel at least 8 times in the last 4 years. Room very overpriced not to a high standard.

Review 91:Breakfast staff and Bar staff are brilliant .

Review 92:No bar meals on the evening we stayed as they were having a carvery!

Review 93:Comfortable and friendly. Room at the front had a bay window and comfy seats -perfect for relaxing

Review 94:Smokers hanging about round the front entrance.

Review 95:Very friendly staff. Would have relocated us to a disabled access room, but we preferred the one allocated to us.

Review 96:Some of the bathrooms are a little tired and the bath towels are small but to be honest this being picky and are very minor points. They don't change the fact we love this hotel.

Review 97:We've stayed in this hotel quite a few times in various rooms. They are all very clean, comfortable with lovely bed linen. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is buffet style with plenty of choices.

Review 98:Because the afternoon and evening sun was on the room, it was quite stuffy through night.

Review 99:Sea view, nice size room, very comfy bed, great breakfast and the carvery was fab. They gave us two mini bottles of champagne because it was graduation.

Review 100:Bedroom was lovely with super sea views. Felt the jacuzzi bath was too large for the ensuite - I would have been happy with a posh shower!

Review 101:Very friendly reception staff. Good range of food for breakfast to suit a range of tastes although the dining room staff were not quite so friendly.

Review 102:At the time of writing my original review I wrote that this hotel only had limited parking spaces (17 for a 54 bedroom hotel), which was the only negative point I made. This is a problem throughout the whole off Aberystwyth, especially along the sea front, and not just a problem at this hotel. Since staying at the Marine Hotel and writing my original review I have been informed by my daughter who is at Aber Uni that the hotel have aquired and opened a new car park at the rear of the property for approximately 20 cars. This will make the Marine Hotel even more attractive in my opinion.

Review 103:Excellent location, with lovely sea views enjoyed from the bay window in our room. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was very comfortable, and the breakfast was generous and tasty. We really enjoyed our couple of days at the hotel and my wife didn't want to leave that armchair in the window. We would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel to our friends and family.

Review 104:Bed mattresses desperately need replacing. The coil springs can be felt through thin mattresses.

Review 105:Nice large rooms, somewhat old fashioned but well maintained. We had an executive twin room on the 1st floor, with the beds pushed together for a king. Lovely view over the promenade to the sea. Nice little nook with seating at window.

Review 106:The breakfast was just ok. Tad on the greasy side.

Review 107:The staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and plenty of room for the 4 adult sized people in our family.

Review 108:Booked a superior double or twin, given a family room with a double and a single. Very little floor space. No point in complaining but if this was their idea of superior it differed from ours.

Review 109:GivenRoom at back with Single beds, and had booking for double. after 1st night was told we could move to front with water view and double bed, but again got 2 Singles. Wallpaper falling off. Power points dangerous. Expensive for what we got.

Review 110:Only thing, the view when eventually got.

Review 111:Don't bring a car, you will struggle to find somewhere to park it (not the hotel's fault, but parking is v. bad so be aware). Hotel itself felt very dated but was comfortable.

Review 112:Sea view.

Review 113:there was a black hair in the non-slip bath mat the bath towels were a bit skimpy

Review 114:our little table in the window with 2 chairs where we could relax each day very quiet at night the sound of the sea

Review 115:room was very small tv did not work and the bathroom was way too small you had to sit sideways on toilet and the shower cubicle was full of black mold ,did not know dogs where allowed as I have allergy

Review 116:breakfast was ok

Review 117:When we arrived there was a late night function which could be heard up to the second floor. Staff were running around trying to reallocate guests to different rooms who had complained about the noise. When we reached our room we were disappointed to find that it was incredibly cramped (our small double room was filled with a double bed, twin bed, desk and wardrobe) and we had to side step around the furniture- luckily I am quite petite. I travel a lot and this room was not worth what we payed for it at £255 for 2 nights. The Carpark is also very cramped and only has space for 8 (small) cars. There is parking on the seafront but this only covers the first 4 hours of the day. In peak holiday season it can be very difficult to find a parking space in Aberystwyth so a hotel with adequate parking facilities is essential.

Review 118:The breakfast The location

Review 119:Wifi in the the second room was non existent the as ou accessible by stairs which though not a problem for myself it could be for others

Review 120:Stayed in 2 different rooms both had great sea views and comfy beds relaxing baths.

Review 121:The shower was called a power shower, in the 80s you would have been happy with it, it wasnt powerful at all, the room, especially the bathroom needed upgrading. Although the staff where polite they were not friendly (or happy) expect the barmaid on the saturday night (she was left totally on her own, trying to check people in and serve at the busy bar on a busy bank holiday saturday, obviously we had to wait to be served (15 mins) although not her fault. Breakfast although nice enough you had to serve yourself with everything, no one even approached you to tell you what you are supposed to do. Toast was put under the hot plate that resulting in it being cold and hard, be better if you had a toaster for people to serve them self. Ask for a cup of coffee on Sunday afternoon and was told they were too busy we had to have a drink from the bar. When we arrived there were 2 functions on, it would have been nice to be notified of these so we could have decided to come or not as they were very noisy

Review 122:Had a sea room that had a fantastic view Breakfast food was nice except the toast

Review 123:Maybe the silver furniture and headboard was a bit over the top.

Review 124:We had a deluxe room so was on the front with a sea view. Bed was really comfortable and room had been recently upgraded.

Review 125:Car parking can be tricky, despite there being dedicated spaces. Not the fault of the hotel, but a bit annoying all the same.

Review 126:Nice hotel, good location, friendly staff. It has been modernised since I last stayed here - a big improvement.

Review 127:The selection of fruit was poor pastries were dry and powdery and the toast and hash browns were under cooked The finish in the superior room was poor and all the little things from toilet paper to 1 pack of biscuits and one chocolate gave the impression everything was selected for value and not for quality. Staff did not know that the road would be shut for 12 hours due to a race

Review 128:Location and sea view

Review 129:I didn't like that there was only two choices on menu for people staying for eve meal at set price of 18.95 I would definitely not pay for eve meal again but saying that breakfast was very nice

Review 130:The waiting staff were excellent polish lady and young waitresses and foreign older waiter were excellent

Review 131:We stayed on an overnight visit but was very impressed by the hotel as were friends of ours staying up the road who came to visit. The staff welcomed them in. Pity that we were bit staying longer but should we visit Aberystwyth again this I definitely the place we will be staying

Review 132:Bar could be open more sensible hours.

Review 133:Great location if you chose a seaview room. The recent revamp is a welcome improvement.Friendly staff, good food everything is clean and tidy.Hard to fault.

Review 134:Our room was very comfortable with a fabulous view of Cardigan Bay. All the staff were friendly and helpful but Lydia, who served us for breakfast, was outstanding - always with a smile on her face and couldn't do enough for you.

Review 135:We were kept awake until 05.30 am by some drunken louts outside the main door. Police came but it still went on another hour after quietening down for about 15 mins. Staff in the morning didnt want to know even though they were playing the CCTV back to try and find out what happened. Obviously no night porter. Never AGAIN!

Review 136:view

Review 137:My room though very comfortable, easy chair most appreciated,I would have liked more flat surfaces to lay out my things.

Review 138:The Hotel ,just the right size to be comfortable. The decor ie furnishings and colour schemes.

Review 139:Two armchairs in the room with a perfect view of the sea so we both got to sit in comfort viewing the sea from the lovely bay window with the setting sun for our happy hour

Review 140:Functionality more than luxury is the offering of this hotel but at such a competitive price who could complain. Friendly and helpful staff were a big plus. The hotel had been refurbished to a good standard. relative to its rating category with good all round cleanliness.

The Fine Print

Kindly note the bedrooms are located on the second floor and higher. There is a lift for guests to use.
