Reviews for Le Grand Hotel

Review 1:Toilet in room didn't flush but was sorted by 'technician'. Shower head jetted more water sideways than down. A pleasant enough stay but 'Grand' refers to a time some years ago!

Review 2:Good location, easy access from motorway. Parking opposite, limited spaces but we arrived in time to secure one. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 3:The staff was friendly, willingly overcame my complete lack of French, and couldn't do enough for us. The hotel is pretty, well situated, and good value.

Review 4:The power outlets for chargers and laptop are difficult to reach. The ones under the bed can only be found by touch, following the lamp cord.

Review 5:Big and well equipped room. Kind staff.

Review 6:Receptionist spent all of her time on the telephone to her friends and it seemed like it was a real pain for her to serve drinks from the bar

Review 7:Location was pretty good

Review 8:No air-conditioning or fan in the room. Hotel a bit too far out from town centre for an easy walk

Review 9:Size and layout of the room was very good. We had a triple room to accommodate myself, wife and daughter. Bathroom was very good decor

Review 10:I am a wheelchair user, I found access impossible without extendable ramps.Once in the hotel my wheelchair only just fit in the elevator without my bags or carer. Their are steps up and down in the middle of the corridors which also require ramps. This hotel should not be recommended for wheelchair users.

Review 11:Seemed like a nice hotel with a comfortable and relaxed vibe.

Review 12:A bit understaffed, but very friendly and helpful.

Review 13:Spacious, calm yet with friendly family ambience. Near all facilities for overnight stop, good car parking opposite.

Review 14:The area it's situated, it's a steep incline to reach the town with some rather iffy looking places on the way. The car park was used by some drinking itinerants which made it feel a bit unsafe with a GB car.

Review 15:Impressed with the entrance, which lived up to the Grand Hotel name. All very clean but it seemed so quiet, we didn't really see any other guests except for what we assumed was a few wedding guests, so wondered how it manages to remain open when so quiet. It's got a very quirky interior, open plan central area with seating area. Staff were keen to please. Wifi was rather intermittent. Breakfast were good at e13 each, with plenty of choice. Bus stop was close to avoid walk to town centre but unsure what time busses ceased.

Review 16:We had an infestation of ants in the bed and bedroom. Only discovering these as we got into bed the staff were quick to move us.

Review 17:Staff were happy to try and solve the problems

Review 18:Car parking on site -- very friendly reception --spacious and well appointed bedroom with a King size bed not the usual French 3/4 bed attractive interior courtyard -- will stay there again on future travel

Review 19:Had cause to need help while staying and the staff at de Grand could not do enough. Lovely place to stay so central to everything. Would highly recommend the staff and hotel

Review 20:Breakfast not up to the quality of the rest of the hotel. Cona coffee is always a bad idea. Not much food left by 8.15 but the unapproachable breakfast staff showed no inclination to help us.

Review 21:Lovely hotel with some nice features. Good sized room with quality furnishings. Well trained reception staff gave us a friendly welcome and were helpful.

Review 22:Contact lenses left by the bed from previous occupant... Glasses in bathroom still had toothpaste in them. Internet only in foyer and slow.

Review 23:Location was great for me, car parking also and nice staff.

Review 24:Hotel appeared to be running down towards the winter not untypical of this area of France however this did not spoil our stay. The staff did all they could to make up for the shortfall e.g. lack of drinks in the bar.

Review 25:Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast - freshly cooked eggs. Excellent restaurant 2 minutes walk with 10% discount with hotel voucher. Would recommend!

Review 26:The hotel bar was poorly stocked.

Review 27:The hotel lived up to all our expectations. The rooms were comfortable and large with excellent bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 28:The very immediate area is slightly boring with few cafes for a breakfast croissant or light French meal. There are 6 steep polished stone steps up to the reception that may be a problem for some. The decor is a bit of a muddled hotch-potch of styles, late 70s bathrooms (ours had a cracked mirror), vaguely Deco styled bedrooms and 80s/90s atrium and public areas, but if you're there for just one night you may not mind. Watch out for the textured wall-covering in the loo - it's quite scratchy if you inadvertantly brush your more delicate skin against it! Our room-safe would not set but we felt secure in an almost empty hotel in September. We knew there was no air-con before we booked but the room felt stuffy; radiators were behind heavy curtains, so you may be hot in high summer (unless you leave French windows AND curtains open) and find the heat caught behind the curtains in winter. The breakfast selection seemed a little tired (the usual yoghurts and cereals/muesli plus tinned pineapple in juice) with only half a baguette left on the board (there were a few small croissants and pain au chocolat) - though more was willingly brought in from the local boulanger when we mentioned this. One type of thinly sliced orange processed cheese (in the Land of Cheese Eaters?!) and cheap ham (4 small slices of each laid out) and long-life carton orange juice do not compare with breakfast selections and freshly squeezed juice to be found at the cheaper chain hotels - yet at 13 euros was the same price. The hotel could remove the nice table linen and spend the saving on better breakfast ingredients.

Review 29:The hotel has free parking for about 10 cars in a well lit carpark opposite the hotel. On arrival the receptionist was pleasant, smiling, spoke some English and checked us in quickly. Our room was spacious and quiet (it overlooked a road at the back of the hotel), it was clean and the bed was very comfortable with crisp linen. I think the decorations aimed at a 1930s style (mixed results, there's an unintentional 70s vibe to the interiors) and the room seemed to have been redecorated recently in neutral tones. It's nice that the loo was separate to the well-lit bathroom. The breakfast room was attractively decorated in classic French bourgeois style with chandelier, upholstered chairs and proper table linen. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the main square and restaurants in St Quentin. All the staff we met in the hotel were pleasant and friendly.

Review 30:Evening meals not available (although plenty of places to eat near by). Limited to 2 hours free WiFi

Review 31:Large clean bedroom, peaceful atmosphere, very helpful staff. Convenient location near station, and good car park.

Review 32:Clearly desperately in need of a refurb. Really depressing ambience and location. Pored me a glass of wine from an old bottle that was off. For over 100 Euros very bad value compared to an Ibis.

Review 33:The rooms were ok and the beds comfortable

Review 34:Tired carpets in hallways

Review 35:This place grew on us during our brief stay. Staff were friendly andhelpful. Check in was prompt and efficient Breakfast would cover mostEuropean ideas of what that meal involves. Linked with a nearbyrestaurant that was lively and covered a wide range of options, including vegetarian.

Review 36:Lighting a little subdued and the tv instruction didn't relate to the functionality

Review 37:Huge room

Review 38:nothing

Review 39:Fantastic room size and layout

Review 40:Standard of finish good bed very comfortable

Review 52:Large room with comfy bed and tea/coffee making facilities. Free car parking right opposite the hotel. Excellent value for what we paid

Review 53:Great room with friendly staff

Review 54:Bedroom window was on to flat roof.

Review 55:Car park.

Review 56:Couldn't fault it. High end hotel but not on price, excellent value for money

Review 57:bed and pillows were too hard

Review 58:Central location, but as others have said it is a ghost town in the evening....

Review 59:Rooms, beds and bathroom facilities very good

Review 60:Dirty towels on floor on arrival, restaurant closed for party which went on into early hours , very loud building work opposite all night until 4am

Review 61:No air conditioning. Road outside and nearby far to noisy to have windows open so sweltered

Review 62:Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Good size room.

Review 63:Csr park facilities

Review 64:Nice room.

Review 65:Breakfast value compared with other hotels.

Review 66:City centre location with parking.

Review 67:Too many chairs, difficult to find places to put things conveniently. Parking not easy and expensive but it is in town centre.

Review 68:Free Parking Convenient for town centre Good quality continental breakfast

Review 69:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 70:Welcome, room (prestige), location and parking. Good bathroom and comfortable beds.

Review 91:No restaurant or room service

Review 92:Style, comfort, cleanliness, parking, wifi, quiet

Review 93:No parking on site

Review 94:Separate loo and lobby area from bedroom

Review 95:Breakfast

Review 96:Clean rooms

Review 97:No air con with a temperature of 37

Review 98:Large room with entrance hall. Very clean and well stocked with all hotel goodies.

Review 99:Noise after france won the tootball, it went on until 2am! Also the fire alarm then off at 5am so a very poor nights rest, which was a shame as it started so well. On checking out the receptionist didnt speak english, so we couldn't complain.

Review 100:Hugh was a very friendly and polite welcome to your hotel. Helpful with all questions and just coukdnt have been nicer.

Review 101:In hot temperatures the rooms are a little warm as they are not air conditioned.

Review 102:The ambience, the friendly helpful staff. The breakfast, the layout of the room, comfortable bed, in fact most things.

Review 103:The fridge in our room (301) did not work and being a diabetic I had insulin to keep at a certain temperature. Also there was no air conditioning in the rooms.

Review 104:The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, the hotel was well laid out, the breakfast was excellent, the rooms were a good size the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were great. We would definitely stay again if visiting the area and would recommend to others staying in the Le Grand Hotel, St. Quentin.

Review 105:shower tray and washhand basin was not cleaned on one day and rubish bins left empty

Review 106:Good breakfasts save for lack of orange juice and fruit on |Monday morming

Review 107:Very clean and good size rooms, a real hotel rather than a'motel'. Good access to a pleasant town. Not hard to find if youcan be bothered to drive into town rather than stay on the shoppingestate near the a26. A bit more expensive, but very worth it to see thetown and have a decent room.

Review 108:Compared with some hotels the room decor was a little tired, but not as tired as our own house.

Review 109:Very good position. Good, secure, parking included. Nice staff

Review 110:The copious breakfast that was advertised was NOT. it was laid out by the night porter and was not varied. I think the french may have liked it but it was mainly crousants

Review 111:we liked the young receptionist who was excellent and made us so welcome. The room was very comfortable and the location was good

Review 112:The decor is from the 70's and has not changed since then. I would not like to come in the summer since there is no air conditioning.

Review 113:Staff was very nice. The room I got was pretty quiet and roomy.

Review 114:Many thanks to Hugues on reception for his cordiality and humour. A pleasant hotel within a short distance of the grand place, a good location for touring the surrounding area. Free parking in car park opposite the hotel entrance proved very handy. Saint Quentin itself is a quiet town. For drink, I recommend the American Pub, food, L'Univers. Both in Grand Place. Again, thanks to Hugues, bon chance avec ta musique.

Review 115:Staff really friendly and helpful. Room large and spacious with room to move around. Excellent breakfast served in comfortable and bright room. Location ideal; easy to find with parking and close to town centre. Will certainly go again!

Review 116:Location good, free parking. Morning staff did not speak much English, which was a slight problem. Evening reception staff had good knowledge of English.

Review 117:The hotel feels tired. The carpets would be first on the list forreplacement. We kept the window closed while we slept there is no airconditioning. Wifi is poor and channel cnn only available in English.Lacks atmosphere, needed a friendly manager to jolly us on our way butalas instead we had an abrupt encounter with huffy Sunday morningreceptionist who would not allow us to leave the hotel for 10 minuteswithout settling our bill even though it was 9am and we were onlynipping out to get a croissant! As I pointed out our bags were still inthe room, our transport in the car park and they already had my carddetails from Booking.com!! But no! We had to pay before we steppedoutside. This made us feel bad so we really did grab and go! Rules arethe rules I guess.

Review 118:The hotel was easy to find and the parking was directly opposite. Thereceptionist that greeted us was very pleasant and we got to our roomquickly with a choice of lift or stairs. The room was large with hallwayleading to bathroom and separate toilet. There was a kettle and minibar, slippers and extra pillows we had requested. The bed wascomfortable which is the best thing.

Review 119:This was one of my favourite hotels on our European vacation. The staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was extremely comfortable. My wife is in a wheel chair and the staff made sure she was comfortable even though she couldn't come in through the font door.

Review 120:Today it's looking very 'tired' and in need of modernization. No air con meant the rooms on the south side are very hot in the evening. With motorcycles we were a little concerned about the parking as it's across the road with open access to the public.

Review 121:Staff and city location are the best thing about Le Grand, only a short walk to the centre. The layout and style is very grand with a nice bar area to sit.

Review 122:parking. fortunately there were very few guests at the hotel thus I was able to park in the small car park on the opposite side of the road to the hotel. At busier times guests would need to seek on street parking. No air conditioning - temperature in the 30s.

Review 123:Faded charm of what would have once been a grand hotel. Excellent (superior) room.

Review 124:There was no air conditioning in the bedrooms and therfore a lot of traffic noise with the windows open.

Review 125:Interior decor, altho' carpets on the stairs were worn and tired. Spacioud bedroom and bathroom. Friendly and hepful staff.

Review 126:Seemed a bit bland and corporate. Not much going on.

Review 127:Our stay was a one night stopover coming from lyon to calais. Easy to find from motorway. Free parking opposite. Nice restaurant around the corner for dinner. Nice breakfast. Spacious comfortable room (triple) for us and two kids under 3.
