Reviews for Hotel Hermitage

Review 1:Paper thin walls meant you could hear every sound from the corridors, the rooms above, below & next door. Wooden floors added to the noise. Hotel needs serious sound insultation

Review 2:Staff really nice, very helpful even recommended local restaurant for dinner. Breakfast good

Review 3:Hotel should consider a bit of redecoration and update to its furnishings, while still comfortable they do give a wrong impression of the hotel.

Review 4:Location overlooking bay and harbour. Local restaurants and bars. Nearby islands

Review 5:No hair dryer, iron or kettle but as its a 2 star to be expected.so no problem as drinks were a phone call away.

Review 6:The location in Royan is beyond anything else if you like beach resorts, a promenade and sea food. Also close to the town shops and oviously the marina. All the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Review 7:A friendly hotel right on the sea front in Royan. Just walk out of the hotel and you are in amongst the many excellent restaurants which specialise in amazing seafood. The staff were very welcoming and spoke very good English. Our room was small and a little dated, but the bathroom had been refurbished and was fine. Parking around the hotel is plentiful, and free. In the height of summer you may initially struggle to get a space (depending on the time of day) but once your in it's yours for the duration.

Review 8:nothing of note

Review 9:Centrally located, friendly and helpful staff. Clean tidy , easy to find. Undercover parking for 2 motorcycles. Very handy for the ferry across the estuary of the Gironde.Very reasonably priced with a good continental breakfast.I would stay again

Review 10:Owners are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. We were cycling and the owners kindly stored our bikes in their back office for us (we checked with them first). Excellent all round.

Review 11:No air conditioning. As it was around 25-30 degrees at night made it a little uncomfortable to sleep well

Review 12:Nice clean tidy room, balcony, ensuite shower room

Review 13:Even though the afternoon had been quite cool, the room was pretty hot, and we had to sleep with the patio door open. The lack of A/C could be a problem later in the summer.

Review 14:Once we found the hotel, there was parking right outside [might be more difficult in high season] and a very warm welcome from the proprietor. We were grateful for the lift [probably the world's smallest but enough room for one of us and our luggage] and the room was small but clean and comfortable. As mentioned in another review the shower was excellent [better than other's we've come across in much more expensive establishments] and the rest of the bathroom was fine too. A final word for the breakfast which again exceeded what many other places charge a lot more for. The usual but very fresh pastries, bread, juice and coffee etc, plus eggs, cheese and meat, and fruit salad all for less than €8 pp.

Review 15:The only negative was having to leave at the end of our stay. We will be booking another stay with friends later this year.

Review 16:Great location, warm welcome and the staff are friendly and efficient. A very relaxed atmosphere with fabulous views from the balcony

Review 17:Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location overlooking the marina. Good value for money. Surrounded by restaurants - what a choice! Easy to book with no problems on arrival.

Review 18:Found Royan uninteresting, extremely expensive and lacking in choice for restaurants. By 10 pm we were looking for a bar still open and not clearing the chairs away as we were sitting on them. I appreciate it was the last week in June and out of season, however we don't think we shall return again.

Review 19:Hotel and owner very pleasant and most accommodating. Good parking for the motorbike. The smallest lift I've ever been in but functional. Bedroom very hot at night and would have found it unbearable at height of summer.

Review 20:Situation proche de la mer

Review 21:The location was perfect overlooking the harbour the breakfast was very good there was plenty of choice

Review 22:rooms are not soundproof

Review 23:good location with lots of restaurants n shops nearby

Review 24:Close to the car ferry from Le Verdun and close to the restaurants on the seafront

Review 29:Room spacious

Review 30:staff,balcony, breakfast,parking.

Review 31:The friendliness of the staff.

Review 32:staff are willing, but it is obvious that the owners are economizing to the detriment of services offered.

Review 33:Rooms are dated.

Review 34:Very good location close to port and beach and good selection of restaurants. Nice view from balcony.

Review 35:Bars and Restaurants on the doorstep

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:The breakfast was comprehensive and well priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were confortable and clean.

Review 38:Hotel & rooms would benefit from renovations but still comfortable.

Review 43:Location , overlooking the harbour and beach. Value for money. Friendly staff

Review 44:Tiny bathroom!!

Review 45:The view from our balcony was lovely.

Review 46:lift was very small

Review 47:Staff and location

Review 48:Well located, comfortable, if basic, rooms. Good breakfast and very friendly helpful staff

Review 49:French hotels at this price range can be disappointing but this one was a pleasant surprise. Nice room with balcony, bathroom a bit tight but adequate. Breakfast was typically French but plenty of it. Location of hotel could not be better. Staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough. Car parking excellent just outside hotel.

Review 50:Bedroom on the small side and the bed was small for two mature people! Although it was very good value for the money.

Review 51:Friendly,helpful staff in a hotel ideally situated for all local amenities. We had a quiet room with a newly equipped shower room.

Review 52:Very small elevator made it difficult with our large amount of luggage, loudly talking neighbours until 2am!!

Review 53:The staff were friendly and breakfast was good. Great views, overlooking the Marina.

Review 54:The lift had broken so my disabled wife had to climb stairs up to the second floor

Review 55:The room was very comfortable with a splendid view across the small park to the marina and the sea beyond. The hotel itself was a very short walk to the beach

Review 56:Quite a bit of road noise on the sea front. V basic hotel but perfect for a base for a family beach holiday

Review 57:Excellent value for money. Huge family room with a great sea view.

Review 58:Air conditioning would be nice on very hot days.

Review 59:Nice hotel well placed for exploring the town. Rooms with sea view and balcony well worth the extra. Very friendly and helpful staff. This was our third visit.

Review 60:They advertised as having WiFi but I couldn't access it.

Review 61:The location and the size of the room were very good. In addition, thebathroom was very modern with an excellent shower.

Review 62:Pipes banged when other rooms were used.

Review 63:Location was superb. Very friendly staff, lovely breakfast, room small but very adequate, clean, nicely decorated.

Review 64:The rooms and bathrooms (shower in particular) are very small - the carparking is public and whilst we managed to park easily in September itcould be a problem during July & August

Review 65:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they spoke alittle English

Review 66:Carpets and Walls on stairs filthy Bedrooms shabby with very dated bedding Tiling in bathroom disgraceful Generally Iin need of major overhaul

Review 67:Location Receptionist Breakfast and lady serving it

Review 68:very grubby, needed overhaul, obviously seen better days. walls paperthin, could hear both sets of neighbours just about breathing! if we recommended hermitage to others, we would definitely have to mention how dirty it was in the rooms. bathroom cramped, toilet and sink on top of each other, shower miniscule, no room to turn.

Review 69:location superb, fabulous view from balcony.

Review 70:I must have had the worst room (441) top floor over the carpark. The lift is like an upright coffin and if you are on the 4th floor use it! Not much going on in this town this time, too early I suppose. Breakfast at €7.50 is not great value and the selection was only ok. Binman and road cleaners woke me at 6.30 and considering I had a long drive ahead of me I was not impressed. A good strong knock on the door at 10.20 reminded me checking out time was 10.30. Too many other places to choose from, think i'll give it a miss next year

Review 71:Stayed there last year and it was ok, Had a nice room ,if a bit dated. Booked again because i'd been there before, knew where it was located and where to park. Also the town was busy which was fun. Didn't much like it this time.

Review 72:Shower took ages to get hot water through...... A minor problem

Review 73:Fantastic location, very good restaurants near by. Great breakfast.

Review 74:Parking is a problem if you arrive on the wrong day

Review 75:Our room had recently been done up so it was clean and fresh

Review 76:le parquet et la propreté le petit dejeuner

Review 96:We stayed at the Hermitage last year but unfortunately this time was spoilt by my partner and myself being badly bitten by mosquitoes.

Review 97:Very dated hotel, very tired rooms with very cramped en-suite and tiny shower with curtain, very 50's
