Reviews for Chambres d'Hôte La Rotonde

Review 1:Don't visit in Winter they are not prepared. The room was cold the radiator didn't work properly and clanked all night. The bed room has no TV, there was no one there to get a hot drink wi fi does not work well. We had to put on an extra cover on bed we were weighed down under heavy musty blankets. Breakfast great however served in a really cold room. I wouldn't advise staying here in winter.

Review 2:The hostess the old traditional furniture

Review 3:Nothing bad, but shower/toilet separated from main room by a curtain not a door. Not a real problem, given age of building.

Review 4:Location near centre of town near old town area, but quiet and nice views over river. Nearby inexpensive parking. Good breakfast, albeit continental. Lovely old building.

Review 5:La Rotonde's location is excellent for sightseeing and overlooking the River Charente. Madame is attentive and her homemade preserves and cake at breakfast add to the whole experience.

Review 6:A charming property run by a charming hostess . Well located on the edge of historic Sarlat with parking at the door, the house stands at rivers edge. A short walk into the historic center where restaurants aboud. We loved our stay in Saintes and would not hesitate to recommend la Rotonde.

Review 7:We were unlucky to have a guest in the room above who woke us several times because of footsteps on the creaky wooden floors.

Review 8:Beautiful old house, with large rooms and very French and stylish. Cute balcony with wonderful full length doors. Brilliant location.

Review 9:This is an exceptional chambre d'hote. We had a family room that actually consisted of a suite consisting of 2 massive rooms, linked by a corridor and a shared bathroom suite. The balcony along the front of the rooms was 50 feet long and allowed expansive views over the river and fields to one side and the medieval city and cathedrals to the other. The whole mansion is tastefully decorated and the owner is friendly and helpful. A lovely continental breakfast was included with more than we could eat on offer. Saintes is well worth a look on a stop off - we could easily have spent another day here.

Review 10:Whenever you needed something it was impossible to find the staff. After our arrival at dinner time the only staff that was here just left for a couple of hours... same thing hapened the day after and there was no possibility's to join anybody since no phone number was left... that's just unacceptable

Review 11:the building and the rooms are nice but the windows need to be finished. the breakfast was decent but not extraordinary

Review 12:The family suite had two large bedrooms so perfect for us and our teenage daughters. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. Marie-Laure, the owner, was helpful and charming.

Review 13:No tea making facility in the room. Road noise in the morning but not during the night.

Review 14:Wonderful house with character beside the Charente river. Very friendly and helpful owner.

Review 15:no car parking; position on corner of street akward for unloading and loading luggagew

Review 16:beautifully decorated, very comfortable, delicious simple breakfast (superb jams!), walking distance of all sights

Review 17:Easy to find, park and situated in the beautiful old city of Saintes opposite the river. Friendly welcome and delightful room Breakfast was excellent including home made jams and local produce.

Review 18:Quite difficult to find as little to signify it was a hotel from outside. The damp and poor condition was very sad to see as this was obviously once a splendid home.

Review 19:The location of this B&B was very good, convenient for walking around Saintes. It could be a beautiful establishment but unfortunately has been rather neglected and needs a lot of TLC (and money) to bring it back to its original state.

Review 20:The only thing would have been useful is to have had a rail to put the towels but otherwise everything was perfect.

Review 21:The building is most beautiful, in the perfect location and Saintes is a delightful town, not too big but yet still lots to admire.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Good position next to the river and close to shops, restaurants and historical sites. Very welcoming owner. Well furnished and equipped. Wonderful terrace garden with an amazing range of potted plants, shrubs, trees and fruit and vegetables.

Review 24:Would have liked a door into bathroom not just a curtain from the bedroom

Review 25:location lovely overlooking charente river and although room faced main road it wasnt noisy. We stayed in two seperate rooms on two occasions and preferred Room Margeruite to Romantic room.

Review 26:due to it being quite central and near the road you do get some car noise but this is me really trying to find something not to like!

Review 27:we had a family suite, so two huge interconnecting rooms views over the river, comfortable bedding. added bonus of wifi important when you have pre teens!

Review 28:You asking what age etc.

Review 29:La rotund

Review 30:Beautiful period room.

Review 31:Wonderful location in a lovely house and perfect hostess

Review 32:Fabulous B&B in a beautiful traditional old french house.

Review 33:Lovely house with views of the river . Very helpful owner and excellent breakfast .. Large rooms with lovely traditional furniture

Review 34:Lovely grand townhouse. Helpful, charming owner. Excellent location.

Review 35:warm welcome to a stunning beautiful old house.

Review 36:Location and breakfast was fantastic

Review 37:A bit tricky to find

Review 38:Such a beautiful house in quiet location

Review 39:a bit hard to find

Review 40:location is perfect

Review 41:The welcome, the furnishings, general position and restaurant recommendations

Review 42:no coffee making facilities. building needs a bit of tlc but furnishings are lovely

Review 43:lovely lady who owns this old house and well situated

Review 44:Beautifully furnished room. Welcoming host and excellent breakfast on the patio.

Review 45:Quite frankly nothing negative to say. If you have the chance to spend time in the area, this is a no brainer. Really good value for money and charming

Review 46:Decoration and outstanding space in rooms

Review 47:The curtained off area for the ensuite shower room was a letdown in an otherwise excellant chambre d'hote.

Review 48:The decor of the whole house. The location was great.

Review 49:That we couldn't stay longer! There is nothing to fault, gorgeous.

Review 50:All of it. This is a truely special place to have a luxury stay that is an experience. The house has a calm that bends to your needs, just like the generous and accommodating owner. Beautiful.

Review 51:Liked everything about our stay. As a matter of fact, we liked the hotel so much, we stayed 2 nights instead of just one.

Review 52:Decor was lovely. Breakfast was very good. The house sits right across the street from the walkway along the river and the old town sites are easily walkable. The owner was a delightful lady and did everything she possibly could to make sure we had any and everything we needed during our stay.

Review 53:If you want a period property in the traditional style - this is a perfect choice. The room was large and airy with the added benefit of a fridge. The bed was extremely comfortable - a must after a long drive. The breakfast was delicious and served on the terrace. A lovely stop over on the way South

Review 54:squeaky floorboards. That the owner didn't tell us about the free carpark, we had to find out for ourselves.

Review 55:The décor was tres chic. The breakfast was superb and was served in a lovely garden setting. Free parking but it's just around the corner, not the one opposite where you have to pay.

Review 56:The car has to be parked across the road its free only certain hours of the day but you only have to pay for a couple of hours in total which is cheap just get to know the parking times

Review 57:Really welcoming relaxing clean bright and very homely great location bars resturants and sights near by right on the river

Review 58:Too many stairs to the third floor, very dark room. The whole property needs some decor maintenance. Expensive for what it is, breakfast okay, normal French. Rooms not tended to each day, your bed remains unchanged and made even though you are out all day, the first time we knew about the owner said she just did not have time and it was very hot okay, what can you say but okay, but the second time you think I am paying 100 Euros a night the bed could be made and towels changed etc.

Review 59:The convenience of the hotel to the centre of Saintes.

Review 60:There is no doubt that some of the wooden shutters need replacing, but one can overlook this because the interior is so charming.

Review 61:An old French house, furnished with interesting old furniture, Entrance hall with spiral staircase going up to glass dome. The proprietor gave us a wonderful welcome when we arrived after 9 pm after a tiring train journey with delays. She gave us a tray with tea and juice and little cakes. The breakfast was served in an attractive room overlooking the river, Different pretty china each day and plenty of home-made jam. There was a refrigerator in our room and even a microwave and so we were able to prepare our own meal after a tiring day sightseeing, which was very relaxing. We were even given a lift to the station at the end of our stay as no taxis seemed to be available.

Review 62:Real French chic boutique bed and breakfast, great hospitality and lovely homemade produce all fresh at breakfast, definitely recommend. A real taste of France!

Review 63:We didn't think anything was a negative for our our stay but the following points may help you to judge if this accommodation is for you. Notably, the windows and wooden shutters were shabby and in desperate need of a good overhaul and painting. No TV in the room (perhaps bliss!). No on-site parking but a large carpark just over the road in the shade of trees on the waterfront. (Pay to park but not expensive.) No hotel is ever perfect and these issues are easily overlooked when put into perspective of the wonderful stay over-all. More importantly, this is fundamentally a guest-house so there is no lift and you need to be fairly fit to access the top floor rooms several times a day during your stay. (The style, age and shape of the building would cause considerable difficulties of access to those with mobility problems.)

Review 64:If you want genuine authentic French chic with more than a touch of the extrovert then this really is for you. This guest house oozes charm. Wall drapes instead of boring painted expanses, creaking solid floorboards instead of laminate, roll-top/claw-foot cast iron bath instead of acrylic, crisp white embroidered napery on the breakfast tables instead of melamine and paper, beautiful moulded door frames and doors instead of self-slam security doors. The list of extravagant, old-world indulgences goes on and on. But this is no grubby antiquated hotel on its knees. Quite the opposite. It is warm and inviting and the proprietor keeps it spotlessly clean. Enter through old iron gates and ancient wooden doors into an entrance hall leading to a magnificent polished-wood spiral staircase which sweeps up to the three floors of bedrooms. Look up and you see the glass domed cupola which lights the stairwell. The guest accommodation is in named mini-suites. By this I mean large seating areas with comfortable period chairs and tables, good sized modern double beds (some in alcoves), doorways off to huge bathrooms with feature period utilities including large baths and basins but with modern shower cubicle. (Our rooms also had a fridge, microwave, coffee machine, crockery and cutlery in the link corridor between sittingroom/bedroom and bathroom although this was a bonus as we had no knowledge of these extras when we booked.) Very easy to find just on the edge of the commercial area and on the riverside. Excellent location for exploring the town on foot. Supremely warm welcome from the owner and very friendly contact with staff. Superb traditional French breakfast - thick fruit juice, home-made preserves, very fresh pastry and bread, etc. This is atmospheric France at its best and is strongly recommended for those who love character and charm and who wish to experience the life of a bygone era - but with plenty of very modern hot water!
