Reviews for Relais du Bois Saint Georges - Hôtel de Charme

Review 1:Restaurant advertised as been opened 7 days/week lunch and dinner. Upon arrival, we were told there was only a short menu for the evening.Bu it was a scandal : no hot food, 5 starter like food, and at ridiculous prices ! You don't arrive after a long journey to be offered a snack ! especially when even in the bedroom, the leaflet advertise the "gourmet" restaurant !

Review 2:Comfortable bed, spacious room

Review 3:An expensive but average dinner. Everything was in French and English in the hotel except the dinner menu and it was difficult to know what you were getting even with assistance. Starter was foie gras 'block' instead of actual foie gras. The main course of duck was tough. We chose the hotel as it advertised a gourmet restaurant

Review 4:A pretty hotel in a lovely setting

Review 5:We thought the breakfast was poor Little choice and only 1 type of bread no croissants.

Review 6:Lovely setting great staff and dinner was lovely. Very good for pets

Review 7:No bad experience as such but the hotel, despite a previous visit, was a little hard to find at least with our satnav and because of a big party staying/dining there the car park was very full requiring a walk in the rain to get the luggage to the entrance.

Review 8:The restaurant is excellent. Although we arrived late, our order was taken with friendliness and efficiency and the meal excellent - possibly the best we had in France on this trip. We made a detour to stay at this hotel known from a previous visit specifically for the restaurant and we were not disappointed.

Review 9:Dreadful themed rooms. Someone's idea of quirkiness but way beyond the pale. Dark claustrophobic and intimidating with insufficient natural light. Hotel is situated adjacent to an industrial/commercial area with little charm.

Review 10:Nothing. We declined to fulfil the booking.

Review 11:Rooms are a little tired and do not have air conditioning but you cannot leave windows open. The staff need to serve the wine at the same time as the food in the Degustation menu.

Review 12:The location, extensive grounds, picturesque landscaped gardens, tranquility and fantastic food and wine.

Review 13:Clean and functional with very friendly staff. Not a 'holiday' destination (it's on the outskirts of the town, just underneath the main road - although we didn't hear traffic noise) but perfect for an overnight stay - we had a wedding nearby.

Review 14:No air con, only a fan- we found it hard to get the room temperature right . Bed a bit small and uncomfortable.

Review 15:The Michelin star restaurant was fabulous value, so much so, we ate there both nights! The staff were charming ,helpful and all spoke English.

Review 16:There are no facilities to make tea/coffee in the room which I think Is the norm in France, but to buy one from the hotel was over priced €5+. The pool was lovely but a little cool for my liking.

Review 17:The rooms are very querqy but very clean and the hotel has a serenity about it that is quite rare to find in hotels. It was nice to have a fridge in the room with complimentary water.

Review 18:The style of the room - it was called 20 Leagues Under The Sea and was styled as the interior of a submarine - all bare metal and dials!

Review 19:The food - dinner was amazing

Review 20:-the room was rather dark, situated on the ground floor without window, air conditioning. It only has a glass door opening to the garden! - The door of the bathroom was special: it had a hole covered by a sort of net so it looked like the bathroom had no door at all!! Even with 40% off of the room price, it was a strange experience.

Review 21:The environment of the hotel was excellent: the garden with the lake and also the pool. The dinner was also really good but a bit overpriced, especially wines...

Review 22:A truly fantastic find. This was booked as a stop-off enroute to the south; it was so good we booked it again for the return trip! We were amazed with the setting and the food; the wine list is out of this world. So much on the menu is grown there. Well worth booking a table for dinner as it does get booked up with locals dining there. The staff were relaxed, polite, and exceedingly professional. The pond is delightful with swans and ducks milling around; the indoor pool was perfect. Rooms were very comfortable although aircon would have been appreciated in the lux rooms we booked on our return visit. The parking was excellent; masses of space, security cameras and no height restrictions - no issues with a roofbox nor leaving bikes on the bike rack over night. The entrance could possibly be an issue if towing as there are gate posts. The gate are locked at night.

Review 23:Room was very hot and stuffy with the air conditioning ineffective. Room was very weird and dark. Not very helpful staff and food in the restaurant overpriced and "faffy" appetiser of coffee flavoured jelly with cauliflower purée was odd and discusting. We didn't have breakfast as it was €19 so we popped to McDonald's down the road!!! The weirdest thing was the huge model of St George on a horse emerging from the bedroom wall at high level!!!!!!!

Review 24:Very pretty setting and easy to get to. Nice touch with the porter fetching the bags.

Review 25:On arrival the room (Belle Isba, Russian themed) was uncomfortably hot and stuffy and smelled of stale cigarette smoke (we found a cigarette butt on the balcony). We found the bed too small (standard double, but there would have been space in the room for a larger one) and there was no lamp on the left side of the bed or light switch. As the room was so hot and stuffy we needed to sleep with the window open and the noise from the motorway traffic nearby, throughout the night meant disturbed sleep (bank holiday weekend). Very limited toiletries in the bathroom (1 soap and 1 shower gel).

Review 26:Excellent dinner and very good service in the restaurant. The grounds were lovely and the decor of the hotel beautiful and imaginative.

Review 27:The room we had we did not like at al it was a themed Submarine room it was weird and not in keeping with the place, the mattress was old we kept rolling into the middle

Review 28:Peace and quiet

Review 29:Although the reviews had warned about breakfast we decided to go for it as we had a lot of driving to do and did not want to waste time looking for somewhere en route. What a let down! Only one other guest eating breakfast. Very poor value for money. Stopped off at four hotels en route from Calais to Portugal and this was by far the worst breakfast, not even worth half the cost.

Review 30:Lovely surroundings/ambience, staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 31:Nothing - all good Even when toilets got blocked - staff stepped up and offered alternative room and then gave a complimentary bottle of wine - seized at customs at airport!! Haha

Review 32:Decor. - very French Good food - individually prepared and very French! Lovely evening meals! Excellent helpful staff

Review 33:Wine very expensive. Portions of food very small. Ground floor bedroom had no window and twin fire doors therefore lacking any ventilation. The room had a door to the outside but could not be left open for security reasons.

Review 34:The staff were professional and helpful.

Review 35:Restaurant prices were toe curling. Cheapest bottle of wine 35 euros, continental breakfast 19 euros each. Chairs in restaurant would have been better in lounge - low and leaning back.

Review 36:Good staff who wanted to please. Stayed in a Russian themed room - bizarre but grew on us during our stay. Big park and gardens. Magical moment when two white swans came gliding into the floodlights right outside the restaurant window.

Review 37:I thought the Hotel was very dark . There wasn't a hair dryer supplied . No bedside lights so I had to leave the bathroom light on in case I needed to get up in the night so consequently didn't have Avery good nights sleep. I ordered chicken for my evening meal and it came with 2 very small slivers of parsnip and 3 button mushroom . Very expensive as was a glass of wine. Declined breakfast as I felt for 19 euros it was a very poor continental buffet. If you required anything hot there was an additional charge. Would not stay there again

Review 38:Limited bathroom amenities, only one bathgel/shampoo, one small bar of soap, No English T.V. channels, the "theme" room we were given was clean and a little quirky! bathroom small, it was rather disappointing for a 4* hotel and it is a pity because as regular travellers through France, we felt the price we paid for the room did not represent good value

Review 39:The quality of food in the restaurant was good and the service was fine, wine per bottle was a little pricey! the hotel was convenient just off the motorway and staff was friendly.

Review 40:Only two points, the themed rooms are a bit 'tired' and the breakfasts are overpriced.

Review 41:We use this great hotel regularly as a stopping off point on our way to and from the UK. The hotel is of a high standard with two key qualities...the staff, who are both attentive and friendly and the food, which is 'gourmet' standard!!

Review 42:Breakfast at E19.50 seemed grossly overpriced especially since to get a refill of coffee I had to go to reception because no staff around. Frayed bath towel. Dirty extractor in bathroom.

Review 43:The setting of the hotel in its own splendid grounds. The swans and the ducks! Good cuisine.

Review 44:Rooms were large but rather unusually decorated. Food was expensive and not value for money. Breakfast was disappointing for a hotel of this calibre.

Review 45:Not a lot apart from complimentary water in the room. Products in the bathroom smelt nice.

Review 46:The people who work in the restaurant are very friendly. Our compliments. There is one lady in the restaurant who functions as a dissonant. She is not friendly. Everytime we visit the hotel the last three years we find that a shame for this wonderful restaurant. It seems as if she not interested in the guests. So....

Review 47:Everything. The location in the park, the way they behave concerning our dog (the people even know her name the next day), the excellent restaurant. The nice staff (desk, restaurant).

Review 48:Bedrooms are a bit dated, air conditioning worked on high only and was noisy for sleeping, no sauna or steam room in the pool area.

Review 49:The food is wonderful, the location great, the friendly and helpful staff!

Review 50:Im just not paying that much for breakfast and so along with many of the reviews before me, this lets it down

Review 51:Loved the room, great stop off place and an excellent evening meal

Review 52:High prices for wine and cider in the restaurant Very expensive breakfast for what was on offer

Review 53:Restaurant (one of the best meals we have had in France) Room with balcony Comfortable bed Separate bathroom and toilet DVD/CD player with TV complementary WiFi Fridge with complementary bottle of water

Review 54:No towels by pool, no one asked us if we needed anything (i.e. : drink, food, cushions for loungers). Only water in fridge in the room, no facilities to make tea or coffee, small towels in bathroom. Fag end on terraces, plaster by the pool... Very bad value for money, need money spent on the place.

Review 55:Heated swimming pool

Review 56:Receptionist was very welcoming. Room was clean and quirky, bathroom needed updating with a shower, very basic. The pool was lovely and the surrounding gardens were stunning. Restaurant was beautiful but the menu was too overpriced. The restaurant just didn't fit the hotel.

Review 57:There's no denying this is an expensive place to stay - and they do charge a lot for extras like coffee, drinks etc. But if you are prepared for that, it's a lovely detour on a driving holiday.

Review 58:The hotel's setting is lovely - in beautiful grounds with ducks and swans (a bit too friendly at times!), and lots of small tables and seating areas. The food was good although expensive. We had a superior room which was extremely nice.

Review 59:on sitting down to dinner we had a long wait to be 'attended to'...after this it was great!!

Review 60:The ambiance The good food The excellent service and friendly staff

Review 61:Matresses (both of them in our room) had a dip in the middle and need replacing. Expensive breakfast. 17 Euro per child is rather ott.

Review 62:Quiet, nice gardens.

Review 63:The room was very old fashioned. If it had been cheaper I wouldn't have minded. The bathroom was particularly poor and it had shutters on the window that I didn't now how to open.

Review 64:The staff were very helpful they let us check in very late left a key out for us. Though we would have to sleep in the car.

Review 65:So close to motorway but a world away in terms of ambiance. This was 4th stopover from port to our holiday home in the southwest. We always intend to vist Saintes centre but are seduced by the relaxing atmosphere. Having said that I am sure that our young grandchildren would equally enjoy a stay there with extensive grounds with swans, ducks etc. and the lovely indoor swimming pool. Dinner has been excellent and different and the breakfast has improved ie home made muesli instead of chocolate corn flakes.

Review 66:The mattress were too soft.

Review 67:Wonderful restaurant with unbeatable ratio quality price. Staff is very professional.

Review 68:Nothing

Review 69:Resturant food excellent Staff very helpful Nice ambiance

Review 70:piscine non accessible

Review 71:Helpful and friendly staff, an excellent dinner. A pleasant ambience, well equipped and comfortable rooms. spacious.

Review 72:Wonderful restaurant, helpful staff, lovely grounds and setting and excellent swimming pool.

Review 73:The staff were very helpful, nothing to much trouble. The food was wonderful

Review 74:Location, comfort, very good restaurant

Review 75:Rooms and bathroom small. Toilet small

Review 76:Lovely setting, lovely staff and restaurant high class food

Review 77:No air conditioning in some bedrooms

Review 78:Good outdoor space, nice swimming pool, good breakfast

Review 79:No air conditioning in bedroom

Review 80:location

Review 81:Lovely grounds and friendly staff

Review 82:Grounds are nice but nothing as vast as advertised.

Review 83:Indoor pool, excellent food, setting, service, friendiness/helpfulness of staff,

Review 84:Poor bathroom / shower

Review 85:Lovely location and great restauarnt

Review 86:Had problems with bed rolling into the middle!

Review 87:The setting of the hotel in beautiful grounds. Lovely staff. Food was excellent if a bit pricey

Review 88:Staff very friendly, Food very good. Good setting

Review 89:The tranquility of the hotel and the quality of the food.

Review 90:No effective cooling in room, particularly problematical in night.

Review 91:Setting swans & ducks ambiance. Good food & service

Review 92:Too expensive

Review 93:Very expensive meal, wine & breakfast . The parkland , swans & ducks were gorgeous.

Review 94:Wine list way over priced and not value for money

Review 95:Location and setting

Review 96:No air con in bedroom, but there was a fan Mosquitos

Review 97:Swimming pool Babysitting Reception personnel

Review 98:Had to find staff for service.

Review 99:Swimming pool. Breakfast.

Review 100:No air conditioning. We went in the middle of a heat wave

Review 101:The food was good but pricey

Review 102:The WiFi needs more power

Review 103:The restaurant is great Good breakfast Beautiful indoor pool Gardens

Review 104:Overpriced breakfast. Room decor just a little too quirky for my taste.

Review 105:Very good, reasonably priced dinner. Despite location, well cared for and peaceful grounds. Large room well air conditioned.

Review 106:No air conditioning in our room - rather hot - and the bathroom facilities were getting a bit tired. Restaurant ran out of meat (only fish left) on the prix fixe menu, but on the plus side, our wish for meat was accommodated with a dish not on the prix fixe menu - so liked it a lot.

Review 107:We got an upgrade when the receptionist realised that my partner does not walk well, and gave us a room on the ground floor. We had booked over the web and did not realise there was no lift.

Review 108:Food was reasonable and expensive for what it was , we found the starters very bland and the Fish course was spoilt by far to much lemon put on the dish before serving, very disappointing was expecting a lot better

Review 109:Superb location , wonderful gardens, easy excess to motorway , and short ride away from centre.

Review 110:Only the step up to the bathroom caused any problem.

Review 111:Quiet and leisurely atmosphere. Attentive, but not pushy staff. Well kept grounds. Ducks on the lake were a bit too attentive begging for food.

Review 112:No air conditioning in the room... surprising at this price. Breakfast overpriced.

Review 113:Convenient location - near the motorway but a world away. Wonderful staff. Perfect with kids.

Review 114:"Tired" rooms. Meant to be "themed" but eclectic and not really pleasing style-mix. Old style floor carpets (even on some walls) feel musky and outdated. Indoor pool has a strong chlorine odor, and you have to walk through everytime you go to the room. Rooms have no numbers; hard to find yours. Food good. Wine list large but Bordeauxs overpriced. While the park is nice it is also noisy due to the vicinity to the highway.

Review 115:Friendly staff. Nice park with ducks and swans walking around (however: it would be nice if the poop got cleaned on the terrace right of front of the tables where dinner is served)

Review 116:Possibly the smallest and most uncomfortable room we have ever stayed in and filthy filthy bathroom. Air con also broken

Review 117:Very nice buy expensive meal -virtually on the motorway

Review 118:Very disappointed that a quality hotel with a restaurant could not fit 4 of us in for an evening meal. Spoilt our stay there and would not bother to go there again or recommend them to others.

Review 119:The hotel was set in a beautiful place, with lovely gardens.

Review 120:When we arrived we were told there was no chef to do an evening meal. We had to go into the town for dinner, they booked us a table at a decent restaurant but it was not what we were expecting. They said they could offer a cold plate.

Review 121:Helpful welcome. Good breakfast. Pleasant room with bath.

Review 122:Rooms need a major upgrade, very old, bed needs replacing. Breakfast was very poor value for money..we had to keep asking for coffee and cold meat and cheese were not replaced after early eaters. However staff generally were very good and we would certainly recommend the place

Review 123:Fabulous location, and restaurant was beautiful. Staff were wonderful.

Review 124:Very little to complain about at all - possibly a slightly larger range of menu options for the children (aged 10 and 11 years).

Review 125:The hotel room was ideal for our family (including dog), the room was quiet and the beds were particularly comfortable. The decor, design and furnishing throughout the hotel were fine and well maintained. We were impressed by the grounds of the hotel which invited exploration and were well looked after. The parking areas were well lit and easy to access. We would recommend the hotel to friends and relatives and looking for an excuse to revisit.

Review 126:The price of breakfast was a bit high for the choice available.

Review 127:Stunning location and convenient for town centre. The staff were excellent. The room was beautiful and extremely comfortable. I loved walking in the grounds and enjoyed the well managed gardens.

Review 128:The atmosphere and relaxation at breakfast was very soothing but the price was too high.

Review 129:The delightful and original decor, the facilities, the fabulous food and the warm and charming attention we received especially for me who had just undergone a back operation.

Review 130:We ate in the bistro and one of the main courses(the veal) was very poor and very little of it eaten.. When we complained we were offered an alternative which we decided against - we were then offered 2 glasses of champagne which we accepted but the full price of the meal was charged However we would highly recommend the hotel despite this - hoping that this was a once off event!

Review 131:The lake and pond with th eswans and ducks and the extensive grounds were very pleasant

Review 132:The breakfast is rather expensive and limited but I know that everything is homemade.

Review 133:Our third visit for a stopover en route to the SW. The whole atmosphere is so relaxing, staff unobtrusive but always cheerful and helpful. The grounds are extensive and interesting.

Review 134:We avoided breakfast because other reviewers said it was overpriced; While we admired the wine list, many people would like a wider choice of wines priced under 30 Euros.

Review 135:The welcome was as good as it gets, the staff were quite exceptionally helpful; The location is very convenient; the room was a delight - spacious, well equipped and very quiet and comfortable; the restaurant was fine; the choice of DVDs excellent the gardens a joy. Oh, and the Wifi was easy to log into and very fast.
