Reviews for Citotel Hôtel des Messageries

Review 1:all the blankets, furnishings and curtains need cleaning. the room smelt stale and the beds were not properly zipped together leaving a large ridge down the middle

Review 2:the bathroom is much improved

Review 3:Saintes has bad traffic congestion, and it is really worth paying the hotel charge for parking,as trying to find other spaces especially ar w/ends is difficult

Review 4:Quiet situation,in the edge of the old town, plenty of shops and places to eat very close.

Review 5:Very kind reception staff. Recentlty renovated marine-themed rooms with a fold-out bed for the kids. A well-run hotel, located in the pedestrian zone of the city center. Some parking at the hotel.

Review 6:Very limited buffet for breakfast. For people not eating cereals, bread and pasta, choice is almost zero. At the buffet one had to use a small watercooker to cook yóur own water for the tea. Old coffee was kept warm in a pot. One cóuld boil his/her own egg.

Review 7:Completely renovated bathroom. Everything works as it shóuld. Bed rather comfortable. Room and bathroom are clean.

Review 8:Having to pay for air conditioning. At 3am in the morning when you cannot sleep because its too hot. Its not practical to go and ask for the AC unit to be turned on.

Review 9:Nice rooms, great shower, perfect location and good breakfast.

Review 10:There is no soundproofing and we heard everything from the rooms around us, I.e. Coughing, toilet flushing, people talking etc. Our room was also close to the entry so you heard the chime when everyone came in or out.

Review 11:It was a good location, and there was limited onsite parking.

Review 12:The coffee!!

Review 13:We loved the style of the hotel which was very clean and the staff very friendly and accommodating. we would definitely go back. It lives up to the descriptions and photos on the booking pages which doesnt often happen.

Review 14:No air conditioning in the room. No mini bar. Time consuming access to wifi. Breakfast was disappointing - not hot food such as bacon/eggs.

Review 15:Excellent location

Review 16:This was better than just 'in an excellent location'. Very comfortable, a secure under cover garage and delightfully quirky lounge/reception areas.

Review 17:Comfortable suite with new furnishings and décor. The double bedroom was less impressive, but it was clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic and, if you ask, you can park the car in their garage (there is limited space).

Review 18:The staircase to our 2nd floor room was spiral which makes carrying cases very tricky and there is no lift.

Review 19:Right in the middle of this lovely town but extremely peaceful with its central courtyard. The room was comfortable with good bathroom. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Secure parking is worth paying for in this location!

Review 20:No air conditioning in room. When we booked we assumed air conditioning would be standard. We were not asked, when booking, if we wanted an air/con room (at e6.00 extra per night!) (The average temp. for July is 30 Celsius plus, when we arrived the temp. was 40 Celsius!!!!) It made sleeping impossible, needing cool showers during the night essential! We asked if they could supply a fan to the room, answer No! No safe in room for valuables, passport etc, when we asked at reception if we could leave valuables in their safe the answer was NO! So we carried around any valuables with us as we enjoyed the sights. No WyFi access, even though we were informed that there was.(my iPhone could find no signal, and other guests told me they had the same problem)

Review 21:The hotel is centrally located, within walking distance to everything.

Review 22:The room decor was tired - very brown and 1980s, and the bath fittings (apart from an attempt at a new basin) were old - our shower was broken. No realistic air conditioning.

Review 23:The hotel staff were friendly, efficient and available. The hotel has limited private parking which we were glad to use as there is no other nearby parking. Very good value for money

Review 24:The hotel is in the perfect position to explore Saintes. Parking is easy and secure. It has character. The beds and bathrooms are excellent. It just has a unique character that is hard to explain. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful.

Review 25:I think that €10 for overnight parking was excessive and should have been included in the room price at €80. Room was small and whilst bathroom was clean and modern shower failed to operate. This should have been checked before we arrived. The local Campanile which we have stayed at was better value for money.

Review 26:Hotel was clean and tidy and well appointed for exploring Saintes. Breakfast was also good.

Review 27:Breakfast extra € 9.50 Garage extra € 9.00 Plus tourist taxe - added €30 to room price per night = €115 instead of €85.

Review 28:very central, good staff, good brakfast ... no problems

Review 29:I don't think we should have been charged extra-9€- to park our car in the hotel's nearby garage for one night. I feel that the price for spending a night in this hotel should have included a parking place. The price of the breakfast could have been included in the price for the room.

Review 30:We liked the central location of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good, but rather pricey.

Review 31:Room 7 has been refurbished but the floor has major dips in which you trip. Pity as recarpeted on top. The room gets noise from the gates closing below of an evening. Is it not time to consider duvets as opposed to the old fashioned bolster and blankets?

Review 32:The owners strive to make the hotel better and better, new additions to small garden, external fascia among some. Pleasant new staff

Review 33:Helpful friendly staff. Good location in the heart of Saintes. Didn't have time for breakfast but staff insisted we took croissants and biscuits with us.

Review 34:The hotel is always well priced, my only moan would be that parking charges are a little on the high side.

Review 35:Have been to this hotel so many times, if anything it improves, always new touches on the décor front, it's location has to be the best for central Saintes.

Review 36:Pillows very lumpy and need to be replaced. Could do with intercom between closed garage entrance and reception to allow easy, quick access to parking without blocking street.

Review 37:Lovely hotel hidden in the back streets of Saintes, perfect for sightseeing and shopping. Very French in decoration, great buffet breakfast, big rooms and modern bathrooms (rooms 20 and 21)

Review 38:Why not have more than one pepper & salt shacker?? Sorry can't think of anything else!!

Review 39:What a lovely place. Breakfast was great, people welcoming, very comfortable relaxed place. Also perfect location in the center of town but off the busy streets. Can't recommend it highly enough. Want to go back!!

Review 40:No views from the window. Secure parking a bit tight.

Review 41:Room fine though a little tired. Very central location with lots of restaurants and bars nearby.

Review 42:You had to pay €6 per night f you wanted air conditioning (although it was very warm and we did without it during our stay but you would need it in July/Aug). Parking is also €10 per night. No bar.

Review 43:Central location in Saintes. Varied breakfast options

Review 44:Nothing

Review 45:Wonderful location, garage parking. Loved the quirky but very tasteful decor. Good sized room. It was great to be able to walk straight into the pedestrianised area from the back of the hotel.

Review 46:Our family room had a very small double bed and a pull out couch Wifi required pre-registration thru a 3rd party and plain didnt work anyway A little bit impersonal for us

Review 47:Great Location in Centre of Sainte with private secure parking and pet friendly. Pleasant staff and stylishly designed.

Review 48:Tiny, thin pillows Noisy neighbours (not in the hotel)

Review 49:The staff were so friendly and welcoming, always on hand to help. I'd suggest opting for a room overlooking the lovely, quiet courtyard- we had a pleasant (though not huge) room overlooking a narrow local street which was just fine apart from the fact that a local had their radio on full blast all night, stopping us from sleeping. This hotel has a real cared-for feeling and is in a perfect location right in the centre of this lovely town but just two minutes away from the river and it's walks and cruises.

Review 50:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 51:We had the family room and it was lovely. Excellent breakfast and loved the way they had on site parking and the door at the back of the hotel lead straight onto the roads where no cars are allowed and there are plenty of restaurants to eat.

Review 52:nothing

Review 53:Everything: Located in the middle of town in a quiet corner big rooms, good breakfast, price, garage, clean, friendly, really anything you can expect.

Review 54:Nothing of any significance.

Review 55:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very well located for the centre of Saintes. They welcomed me bringing my dog along. Hotel was very clean and has recently been renovated. There is a secure garage on the premises. Charming small hotel, different from the usual rectangular rooms of many chain hotels.

Review 56:Position excellent in centre of City. Safe garaging, locked at night, extremely important for our precious MX5 called CARIAD. This was our first visit to this excellent City hotel. We will certainly use it again.

Review 57:Extra charge to use the air conditioning

Review 58:Central location, friendly staff, comfortable room, good choice of food at breakfast, parking (extra charge but still very convenient)

Review 87:pillows to low, extra charges for air-con.

Review 88:location, friendly staff, pleasant rooms, very quiet.
