Reviews for Grand Hotel
Review 1:Room is a bit dated looking, didn't expect that after seeing nice photos from the Internet and picked this because it was more expensive than other choices on the list, but ended up regretting. No shower cap. Lobby smells a bit like cigarette smoke at night.
Review 2:The staff was helpful especially the doorman. Location is not bad.
Review 3:Professional, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Central location. Good choice of delicious food at breakfast and staff unobtrusive but efficient and effective. Lovely spa facility
Review 4:Asked them for a room on the main road but they couldn't fix. I ordered a double room with a double bad but I got two single beds instead.
Review 5:Position and relax
Review 6:As with most Norwegian hotels we found the hotel too hot for our taste.
Review 7:The staff were friendly and very helpfuland we very much enjoyed our time in the heart of Oslo
Review 8:Very nice hotel in a classical style, situated in the city center. The spa and bar on the last stage are really great! Confortable room and mattress.
Review 9:These classic hotels are great but need to have modern amenities. Sadly the Grand Hotel is in real need of renovation and modernisation. Rooms were more like a B&B.
Review 10:Staff very professional and helpful
Review 11:The hotel itself is quite good but, definitely, not exceptional for being a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars (it's more like an average 4 stars superior). It's very old because it is an ancient, beautiful and historical building from the beginning of the XXth century but it currently lacks of basic modern services such as security safety lockers in the room, the furniture and the moquette is ancient and it urgently needs a total REFURBISH AND OVERHAUL to stay up to date with present times. Also, I want to mention the breakfast who is quite good but it's nothing special and definitely not so variate (for being a 5 stars hotel). That need also to be urgently improved taking a look for ideas at the breakfast management of other 5⭐️ hotels such as the fantastic Lebua Tower of Bangkok... The positive of the breakfast hall is the presence there of a Chilean waiter (whose name I've forgotten) who has been very cute and gentle with us allowing us to have a breakfast even if we've arrived very late to take our breakfast at 10:15 in the morning.
Review 12:The best part of my stay at Grand Hotel Oslo was the professionalism of the Hotel personnel, especially, I want to mention the extreme empathy and customer care of concierge girl Mrs. ❤️Martine Rødseth❤️ who is very cute, very gently and very professional (and who also has a very wonderful smile). Another pleasant and surprising positive is the hotel restaurant who is very luxurious (decorated in a beautiful Liberty style) where we have tasted for the very first time a deer carpaccio and a delicious filet of Reindeer (who was not one of the Santa ?? Claus reindeer anyway ??). The other very positive thing is the hotel location who is unique and located just in the middle of the city heart very close to the Oslo Royal Palace and the Main shopping Street Karl Johans Gate. Also I want to mention that the Oslo Grand Hotel has been visited in the past by the famous rock band of the Rolling Stones during a Norwegian tour.
Review 13:Breakfast- although the food on offer is nice enough (better than most in fact) the mixed table seating seems a little odd. There simply aren't enough tables so you have to help yourself to sitting on the end of other people's table or hang around waiting for someone to leave. Not the end of the world and certainly wouldn't prevent me from staying there again
Review 14:Location is second to none and I can highly recommend the afternoon tea!
Review 15:Halls and Lobby area a bit shabby and appear to need updating. This wasn't the case for the guest rooms.
Review 16:The staff member were friendly and helpful. Guest Rooms were lovely and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic!
Review 17:The hotel and spa needs a bit of renovation
Review 18:Erik and Odd, the 2 concierges were amazing at recommending restaurants and activities. A visit to their desk is a must of you stay there
Review 19:See previous comment
Review 20:Most things, but unfortunate experience with prices offered , off course it turned out more expensive And I find this incorrect but your concierge would not listen
Review 21:Got wrong room type at first, had argue to get the room type we had booked and paid for - went back to reception and showed printout when receptionist did not respond positively by phone. Key card did not work at 11:30am when check-out was noon.
Review 22:Comfy beds, friendly cleaner, good breakfast. Right in the middle of Oslo.
Review 23:Room was very basic compared to the pictures shown online it was like another hotel. Dirty sock on the floor in the room. very disdisappointed overall.
Review 24:Location was fantastic.
Review 25:the location on Karl johanne's Gate was wonderful. loved the history of the place. the building is beautiful. the roof-top bar was terrific with great views over Oslo.
Review 26:I am peculiar in that I like very hard mattresses for sleeping; mine was soft. That is all I can think of: I had to try hard to find a fault!
Review 27:Staff was friendly, attentive, professional, informed. Whatever I needed was immediately taken care of. Room I had was elegant yet modern, a lovely space, spectacular view over main square.
Review 28:In need of an upgrade. Hotel is nice and with good location, but clearly is in need of upgrade. At least my "superior" room was not renovated in 15 years, it simply felt very old...will stay elsewhere next time..
Review 29:Weak water pressure in showers. Only one bath robe when I would expect two. Shortage of bath towels also. Internet intermittent but okay.
Review 30:Fantastic location, walking distance to an array of restaurants and attractions. Great breakfast, wide variety. The superior room was beautiful, ladies room nice but issue with the lights and electricity which was dealt with quickly by staff and we were upgraded to the superior.
Review 31:We were on honeymoon, not sure if we upgraded as a result but the room was fantastic. The whole experience of the Grand was great. Made to feel welcome and the staff couldn't do enough to help. Breakfast had the wow factor with more choice then any other hotel I have ever stayed at. (I run an events company and have stayed at hundreds of hotels and this was top class). Worth getting the Oslo card too - great museums on offer - The National Art Gallery and Nobel Museum are musts.
Review 32:Single rooms are small and dark, and really dated - not in a historic good way. No tea/coffee making facilities, no complimentary water, no iron and ironing board. There was a trouser press, but we are no longer in the 1980s.
Review 33:Location is excellent - right in the centre of Oslo.
Review 34:Check-in was awkward - as we requested a front room and a refurbished one at that - they offered everything but in the process we felt like we were treated like we were 2nd class. But overall the stay was fine.
Review 35:Very central location, excellent breakfast, comfortable rooms
Review 36:This hotel has the charm of an old lady. And unfortunately it is an old lady. Once it was Grand, that you can see, but nowadays it is only mediocre compared to other luxury hotels. Don't get me wrong, it is still a nice hotel, but not really great when compared with others of its class. The whole hotel is in need of renovation. The room was small, the power outlets far away from bed and desk, and the air conditioning could not be switched off. The breakfast selection was decent but also not "grand" and the rooftop bar has a stunning view but holes in the sun screens and rust in the roof construction. And in Addition the most famous part - the Grand Café - is closed for good.
Review 37:It's very nice when you are a fan of past days of glory.
Review 38:Not so clean, and too noisy You can hear people walking, talking and door slams Although I'm a deep sleeper I kept waking up at least twice tell 1:00 am
Review 39:Location and breakfast
Review 40:I had expected more on breakfast. Staff too busy to give a smile. Understood, but hoped for different as it's Grand Cafe.
Review 41:Good location. A hotel with history
Review 42:The chair in the room was nice to look at but not comfortable to sit on to do any reading. The wifi seemed unreliable. Was disappointed that the Graand Cafe had closed - this was one of the things I was looking forward to experience in Oslo.
Review 43:Bed was unbelievably comfortable!! Staff were very courteous, efficient, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was extraordinarily good!!!
Review 44:The room was tiny and located in a small corner with a view on the ground of the inside light well. There was practically no natural light reaching the windows. The room smelled old furniture and the rest of the hotel really looks worn down (felt a bit like in the Shining movie). The whole hotel definitely needs a revamp. The breakfast offer was poor and service non existent. I will probably never stay there again as there are plenty other options around with better value for money. This hotel does not deserve its 5 stars for sure.
Review 45:The spa was of decent quality but towels, bathrobes and lockers should be free of charge for the hotel guests
Review 46:This hotel has been going through a major transition (including installation of additional elevators) for several years. The beautiful Grand Cafe closed the day before we arrived and that was a disappointment as it was a beautiful room where breakfast had been served.
Review 47:We appreciated the willingness of staff to relocate us to a room away from construction noise. Also great breakfast, fantastic roof bar, spa and excellent location!
Review 48:the Grand bar and restaurant closed - understood however you are transitioning to a new owner.
Review 49:location excellent staff friendly and helpful fairly well preserved property
Review 50:Chair at desk not comfortable at all One day no coffee replaced y other day no spoons Temperature not good very drafty Breakfast cold
Review 51:Swimming pool
Review 52:road works outside noise at night room was very small requested twin beds in room but given one double bed in room when we arrived and had to change to a smaller room
Review 53:dining room and food dinner etc
Review 54:i cannot believe that this is the best hotel in Oslo! Drilling in room next door at 07.30 in morning No decaf coffee and cleaning staff did not replenish the coffee or creamer Even though ventilation is switched off cold air keeps pushing into the room - hitting you in the bed No comfortable temperature Two lifts next to one another per floor, posing a maze of corridors to get to the lift. A kettle that takes 5 min to boil! Most important breakfast dishes - eggs- scramble and poached - cold an absolutely no taste The service at breakfast was one of the worst I experienced And staff on this day very unfriendly and one stood with hand behind his back reading the newspaper while coffee is not served, Mo milk on table, no salt and pepper! No english newspaper at breakfast No natural yoghurt Bedside tables? Room 584. -Must be a joke for a 5 star hotel! The hanging lampshade makes it impossible to see the TV
Review 55:Checking in
Review 56:The engineer couldn't get the air conditioning to work, it was very warm and leaving the doors open at night was very noisy. Bell boy stored my three pieces of luggage when I checked out at 1200. On my return later in the day, it took the staff 25 mins to find the luggage whilst my taxi had the meter running.
Review 57:Loved the suite overlooking the square and the fact that doors opened onto a balcony. Very central location and the Jazz in the Park was amazing! Reception staff were very welcoming.
Review 58:Unstable wifi. Had heard a lot about Breakfast at Grand Cafe and so held very high expectation. Disappointed at limited choices. But layout and interior of Grand Cafe give a hint of the history.
Review 59:Good location, close to metro and main shopping streets. Helpful smiling staff. Nicely maintained old building with art works.
Review 60:The fact that the hotel was drilling a new elevator without prior notification. I am also still waiting for me refund which they promised! Terrible terrible service.
Review 61:Perhaps advance warning that your hotel is under construction.
Review 62:Absolutly horrible that they have closed the Grand Cafe. It is an institution in Oslo and even if they can make more money on renting it out to a horrible clothes store they will lose my business if the present breakfast facity bus tour style at long tables and "function" chairs in ballrooms without windows continues. Without the cafe no Grand Hotel which is already lacking common areas.
Review 63:Location and service were fantastic. Decor in the hall way was a bit run down but inside the rooms all was modern and comfy. Room was a bit small but had everything I needed.
Review 64:Carefully choose your room... Construction - changing elevator/adding. First room was awful/tired and small and the third one we looked at was much bigger but furniture very tired and location of the room was above office/laundry/noisy area of the stuff/hotel. We stayed in the second room we looked at on the third floor that has better furniture/colors palette and layout in general compare to the rest.
Review 65:I really like Building facade looks. Location, and spa/pool (open till 9pm only). Most importantly - Good group/team people working at grand which normal/usual to meet/see at four seasons and ritz brand names the way they operates.
Review 66:The only down side was that ordered breakfast room service and omelette wasn't great and the orange juice wasn't freshly pressed and they charged me over 400 kroner for the breakfast in the room.
Review 67:I am a seasoned traveller and I liked the hotel, the staff were very friendly and everything was made very easy. Got a room upgrade on arrival. Fantastic central location.
Review 68:Room was a bit small for a 5 star hotel and somehow there was no safe box in the room (or if it was, it was not easy to find).
Review 69:Excellent location, close to many touristic attractions, fabulous breakfast, very friendly staff, and (at least in the summer) great value for money
Review 70:We booked 3 months in advance and yet were given whatever rooms were leftover when we arrived, despite paying a reasonable sum (even by Norwegian standards). We were asked did we want the noisy room, or the tiny one? Well, neither really. Thank heavens we slept through the raucous, due to considerable jet-lag (door number one please)!
Review 71:The staff was extremely helpful and hotel surroundings very pleasant. The rooms/beds were quite comfortable and virtually all the amenities were provided for. Breakfast was delicious and generous, as well.
Review 72:Staff pleasant but not particularly helpful, room tiny, tub drain overflowed into bathroom floor full of gunk. Room overlooked nightclub with rock band at full blast had to move to room double the price to not have either band at night or look into central air shaft. Not very clean and very dowdy looking - there must be better places to stay in Oslo.
Review 73:Location
Review 74:bed width: only abt 80 - 90 cms wardrobe width in double room: 60/65 cms ! view out of room: no view ! Terrible.
Review 75:Locations is good. Hotel Looks nice.
Review 76:We had only one experience that stops us saying that The Grand is absolutely perfect. On Thursday and Friday 20th and 21st August there was a large function on the 8th floor and the music and noise was intrusive until 11.30 pm and midnight respectively/ Apparently this doesn't happen often but it was certainly noisy for a while in our room.
Review 77:The Grand is special! A sense of history and culture combined with luxury and surroundings that are genuinely grand! The attention and service of staff is absolutely superb. Very comfortable room and bed. A truly excellent breakfast buffet in The Grand Cafe. Central location on Karl Johans Gate in the centre of Oslo and close to many facilities
Review 78:Rooms didn't have good view. Saw a suite and it is much better design and quality than regular rooms, a big difference.
Review 79:Best location in Oslo. Great concerige staff, very helpful. Good breakfast. Ladies floor room was nice.
Review 80:We were given a room in a newer part of the building that was built as an extension to the original hotel. The corridor was not as wide, the ceiling not as high, no view of the street. Would have liked to have a room in the original old hotel.
Review 81:Big old fashioned classy hotel, good location. The spa on 7th floor is great.
Review 82:The Grand Hotel has the perfect in-town location on the beautiful square. We loved the expansive breakfast and its Old World Charm. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 83:All thing is bad, it doesn't reflect of 5 stars. No body give you hand through arriving, rooms was so dirty and you wanna 5 minutes to reach, all around you is nothing comparing to other European countries, and in general bad.
Review 84:Nothing , the only thing is the staff and special thanks to Hana
Review 85:Getting the attention of the staff I the Grand Cafe was difficult both at breakfast times and the evening we ate there.
Review 86:The location is perfect, everything is within a close stroll.
Review 87:Housekeeping didn't do a very good job and would be nice to receive some nibbles in the rooftop bar when paying big prices for a drink.
Review 88:Location and the fact that there is no road at the front of the hotel (pedestrian paving). Rooftop bar is great as well.
Review 89:The check-in was 3pm, which was already pretty late. We were told that our room was not ready even at 3pm. So we had to hang out for 1 hour and come back at 4pm. Funny enough, when we checked out, we requested one extra hour and they refused!
Review 90:The location of the hotel is absolutely brilliant - right in the middle of the city next to the palace. The staff was super helpful.
Review 91:It was a bit of a walk from the train station.
Review 92:Great location near the metro, the shopping district, and the Royal Palace. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Review 93:Everything was great, except that they were shooting a movie in the hotel and sometimes we had to be 'quiet' around the areas they were filming as to not disturb the movie making process. Overall, very comfortable, great location, great breakfast. Easily one of the best hotels in Oslo.
Review 94:Did not like lack of storage in the bedroom Did not like that the room was not cleaned in the morning The size and the quality of the towels was poor.
Review 95:Not necessarily a bad experience, but was just expecting the room to be a bit more "grand" at the Grand Hotel. It was comfortable, however, and had everything one needed.
Review 96:Perfect location for visiting the sites of Oslo; safe hotel for a single traveller; excellent breakfast; helpful staff
Review 97:The elevator stop between the fourth and fifth floor That means you need to go up and down stairs And also no help with bags before 7:00 am service The hotel Need a lot of efforts in order to remain 5 stars , but now it is in the 4-star
Review 98:Great location
Review 99:On arrival, TV and fridge didn't work. Impossible to turn off the airco. No slippers nor bathrobe. Dirty paper in wardrobe. Informed reception desk the three days of problems. Arrival on monday, on thursday only TV repaired.
Review 100:Breakfast was messy and with medium quality food. i expect fresh and high quality food, but i found food same as in a 3 start hotel. room was not soundproof (high noise from the street in the morning) and Kitsch. Wifi was weak in the room.
Review 101:Location is great, close to everything
Review 102:Showers spill a little and refurbished rooms are left somewhere between old charm and modern, but not really either one, so the rooms feel quite ordinary but character can be found in the nice common spaces throughout the hotel. If accessibility is a concern, it takes a fair amount of walking and several small bits of stairs to get to and from rooms. Showers tend to spill water on the floor. But these are all pretty minor nit-picks, pretty common throughout Norway as we saw later, and the rest of the hotel and location made it very enjoyable to stay here.
Review 103:The location was excellent - a great place to be to walk everywhere and explore most of the city's main sights, stores and restaurants, and the waterfront. Oslo is nicely walkable and this was a great location to be. Breakfast was full and good, staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 104:I did not the reception staff they are liers they are not telling the truth when I ask to upgrade or to have look to other rooms , they said we don't have other rooms , 15 minutes later an other from reception show me 4 rooms available, next time i will not recommend this hotel to my friends ,I don't like personal from receptions how they treated clients telling wrong information, bad image of the hotel
Review 105:The good in this hotel only the location in city centre which every thing near by waking distance ..
Review 106:The lack of air conditioning control. We were there when there was a heat wave and we couldn't bring the room temperature down. Hard to sleep at night. The roof top bar was closed on Sunday evening. Would have loved to have that experience.
Review 107:Location was very close to most sights. Very close to a metro station, a 5 min walk. Very nice hotel, clean and had a nice restaurant. The concierge was very helpful with information.
Review 108:Parking difficult to find parking and needs to make reservations first
Review 109:Location location location أنصح للمسافرين العرب بحجز في هذا الفندق لنه نص المعمعة الفندق 5 نحوم و لكن بالنسبة لي 4 نجوم شي أفضل من لا شي In the heart of oslo
Review 110:I was a bit disappointed that the jacuzzi was not freely available like the saunas and the swimmingpool.
Review 111:The bed comfort and the breakfast were amazing. Great view from Etoile terass and nice that blankets and heaters were available during colder nights.
Review 112:Room was too hot with no air con so had to have window open. Did not let in much air but did let in noise.
Review 113:Great situation on Main Street, perfect for exploring. Lovely atmospheric pool
Review 114:the noise from the festival in the main square, unfortunate timing for our visit
Review 115:superb location, walked everywhere. excellent city tour, can not wait to go back.
Review 116:Parking was very expensive and would expect valet parking for this price both drop off and pick up. Especially given parking very tight! No milk with coffee facilities and when requested some from room service it did not arrive.
Review 117:Great location and great breakfast!
Review 118:The room was small, and overlooked another building. If we were to stay in Oslo again, then we would either pay for a better room here, or a better room in a less expensive hotel.
Review 119:Wonderful location, in the middle of the city with a short walk to the harbour area. Plenty of places to eat, and close to many museums.
Review 120:First night, moved room at midnight due to waste water coming up from drain in bathroom floor. Disgusting. Second night, wifi patchy in room.
Review 121:Location and breakfast. In an expensive city, this felt like good value for money. Grand café an absolute gem - so disappointing to hear it is closing.
Review 122:there still garbage in the wastbin in the bathroom when we check in. they did not clean it even after my asking. too many people in restrant when breakfast, so no service in time.
Review 123:location
Review 124:The hotel restaurant ( grand cafe ) looked tired and the menu was very limited. The room we stated in could do with a facelift and there was some scaffolding / building work taking place .one one of the days, there seemed to be a demonstration outside the Parliament House which is just across the road from the hotel.
Review 125:The location was excellent, very central and clearly in s nice part of town close tithe royal palace and parliament. Within easy reach of the shoes, port , museums and major attractions.
Review 126:The car parking is very nerrow and hard to get in and out, and it's not worth 350 nok. The elevator from the car parking to the ody hotel does not work and it seems that it's not working for a while, and no body cares. The only 2 elevators are very too far from the rooms on the ather side of the hotel, it's quite a walk to make. At 7 am workers started useing hammers on room above, and from 9 am they moved to driling machine. When we turned on the ventilation it make a terrible noise so after 10 min we couldn't stand it any more.
Review 127:It's beauty.
Review 128:The bed hadn't been made after the first of two nights which is a shame considering how much the rooms are.
Review 129:The receptionist Caroline was outstanding in finding a restaurant we really liked. Also by he staff in during breakfast was very good. The rooms were well sized and equipped.
Review 130:The rooms and decoration are a littel bit well worn.
Review 131:The excellent location in the midle of the Oslo city. Very easy to come from airport train. The nice gym and breakfast. The comfortable bed. Concierge services and advises were very good.
Review 132:The Grand Hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It is a first class establishment with plentiful staff that is helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely, spacious, very clean and well-appointed. The bathroom was large and had two sinks, a large tub and a separate shower. The room had excellent air conditioning. The breakfast each morning is fabulous. We had lunch in the main dining room one day and it was delicious. The hotel is next to the harbor and very near the old town so it is very easy to walk wherever you need to go. This was one of our best experiences in a hotel.
Review 133:Bedroom I was in was very tired.....old fashioned by not in a good way. Shabby but very clean. Needs a good refurbish.
Review 134:Staff very excellent. Hotel is very elegant. Food and drink excellent. Beds very comfortable
Review 137:The sink in the bathroom didn't drain well (however was fixed fast on request) and an unpleasant smell due to bad ventilation of the room left a devided Impression. As the room precises are expensive, I would expect a better preparation regarding the issues that I mentioned. Should not happen on the Level of such a Hotel. My advice is to better check the preparation of the rooms.
Review 138:The location of the Hotel, a wonderful roof top bar and the very good restaurant made it pleasant to stay here. -
