Reviews for Hôtel du Lion D'or

Review 1:Nothing. Well, maybe a faster, stronger wifi.

Review 2:Very clean and comfortable, very friendly and accomodating staff, Family-owned. Excellent and expansive breakfast buffet. Dinner was excellent too. Superlatives galore. 5 Michelin stars from me. Will definitely return.

Review 3:The parking, which is in the nearby public car park, is the only slight negative. The car park was busy but we always found a place.

Review 4:A very comfortable room and the attention to detail, with many lovely touches, of the owners. Also the breakfast is good value

Review 5:The french hospitality, everyone was fabulous and curtious and friendly yet very respectful of your privacy. The meals were excellent and copious . We want to go back!

Review 6:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 7:Cauterets is such a pretty village and we felt so lucky to have chosen the Hotel du Lion D'or for our 2 night stay. We were welcomed warmly by Thomas and his mother, and our very limited French was not a problem. The hotel building is just gorgeous - full of character. Our room was spacious and comfortable, wifi excellent and with tea / coffee making facilities in the room (a rarity in France!). Parking was off site but close by and we had no problem finding a park. The highlight of our stay was the evening meals available each night in the hotel dining room. We so enjoyed the delicious home cooked meals and lovely wine at such reasonable prices. Breakfast was just a good. A delightful hotel and part of France to visit!

Review 8:The rating here is well deserved. Wonderful facilities and staff, nice town to walk around. Took the gondola and ski lift up to Lac du Gaube and walked down. A hotel with the attentiveness of a B and B

Review 9:Great central location for town or the ski lifts. Staff were friendly, helpful and excellent in all respects. Breakfast and dinner were excellent wholesome home cooking

Review 10:This quirky charming family-run hotel is well-situated for a range of activities. Across the road at the back you have the Thermal baths where there are treatments, hammam and sauna, healing waters, indoor and outdoor pools. There are terrific mountain walks from the village itself, skiing in season, and the setting of high mountains, cascades, and clean air is remarkable. The Lion d'Or is welcoming, interestingly decorated with antiques and local items, scrupulously clean, has good beds, and most of the delicious breakfast cakes and pastries are cooked by Thomas's mother from family recipes. This is combined with decent wi-fi, a pleasant lounge/bar area, and spacious comfortable rooms. We did not eat at the hotel, but only because time did not allow, as good cooking is clearly a family strength! Our hosts were helpful, the town is interesting to stroll around, the local bars and cafes were friendly and welcoming. We visited out of season, so perhaos when full of skiers it has a different feel to it, but we greatly enjoyed our stay.

Review 11:Nothing to dislike here.

Review 12:Easy parking in Ave Docteur Domer right next to back door of hotel - very convenient (code for access here after check in). Also GR10 sets off from behind Thermes Cesar opposite. Very friendly owners who even made a phone call on our behalf to help sort out problem with our car hire. Comfortable, spacious rooms with traditional cosy decor. Good value too!

Review 13:Our room was quite delightful, decorated in a subtle alpine theme and very spacious, with two sets of opening windows; we thought it excellent value for money. The hotel restaurant also offered traditional French cuisine at very reasonable prices. Cauterets is an excellent base for exploring the French Pyrenees, including places like the Cirque de Gavarnie, the Lac de Gaube and even the Pic du Midi de Bigorre.

Review 14:The dining room arrangements were a little too quite and formal for our taste but the food being offered looked good. Our biggest negative, as I suspect will be the case with lots of visitors, was the lack of adequate parking facilities.

Review 15:The hotel and staff were every bit as good as we'd hoped they would be. Set in a great location, the hotel was exactly how you'd expect a ski resort hotel to be - traditional, warm & friendly and situated right in the village centre.

Review 16:Parking not always available (in public car park).

Review 17:Hotel run by four generations of same family with real commitment to well-being of guests. Excellent coffee and breakfast. Hotel full of interesting old photographs and winter sports and hotel artifacts.

Review 18:Breakfast is a bit pricey for a nice but fairly simple offering
