Reviews for HI - Boston Hostel

Review 1:Well located and it has everything that we need -kitchen, fire place, TV room, laundry room, many bathrooms. The tours and events given by the hostel are also great!

Review 2:We had lokers everyone but I didn't had a key. So you should bring a key if you think you need it.

Review 3:Staff were very kind. They have some memo about other languages. The location was very confortable.

Review 4:I was overcharged for some reason. I had to call back after my trip and placed on hold for 15 minutes. Eventually I was credited the difference after speaking with the staff for another 10 minutes. (apart from the $3 daily fee for non members). I was overcharged $60. Also, some days I wanted to sleep in a little bit since I'm on vacation and the cleaning crew would literally bang the walls with their equipment. It sounded like WWIII was in the next room. This was before 8 AM.

Review 5:Location was great and the staff seemed to connect well with travelers. Great atmosphere.

Review 6:There are no negatives

Review 7:Central Location Friendly Staff Many bathrooms, always clean Activity available, some free, for residents When travelling alone, stops you being alone

Review 8:My stay was very pleasant, the staff was very nice and I would definitely recommend hosteling to my friends and family, and I also loved that you had a lot of different activities everyday

Review 9:Because the staff gave me an excellent service, the rooms, bathrooms and kitchen were awesome good!, thanks for everything guys!, I loved to stay in the Hostel!

Review 10:The location and staff at this hostel are top notch. The staff are more than willing to help you decide what to do with your time or just plan it all for you! The breakfast was a nice touch, a very social area so you can chat with other travellers. There are a variety of optional activities run by friendly, happy volunteers which I would highly recommend.

Review 11:I encountered some inconsiderate people, who have nothing to do with the hostel itself, not willing to keep the toilets clean. However, the toilets were still at a more than acceptable standard. :)

Review 12:It was centrally located at the heart of Boston within the walking distance to most attractions. Staff were friendly letting me know the activities in the hostel.

Review 13:I love how the lounge/reception on first floor and dining area 2nd floor have a glass window wall. The lounge looked like a cafe from the outside nice big screen with national football pretend fire and just a nice relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was more than most hostels with a good variety of continental breakfast foods with bagels and cream cheese and cinnamon, fruit and yogurt to add to your cereal. Great place to stay has everything.

Review 14:I stayed in a 4 bed all-female dorm which was a little more expensive but totally worth it for the comfort. Bathrooms were really clean and next to bedrooms, everything was really convenient (e.g. light by bed, locker by bed etc) The kitchen was really big and had everything you need for cooking as well as a really good breakfast! Nice and homely common spaces for chilling after a day out in Boston.

Review 15:The guy on the desk who was walking around talking to people and making sure they were having a good time. A homeless lady was in there raising a little hell and he was nice to her, treated her like like a guest. Good hearted guy.

Review 16:The only thing that I didn't like and made me uncomfortable was the security. You just had a small place to put your stuff.

Review 17:The Location was great. Staff were friendly.

Review 18:The staff is super friendly and very helpful. The activities they organize are also very good and I loved the atmosphere. I just wish i could have stayed longer.

Review 19:The key (a card) stopped working easily when it interfered with another card or metal or something. However, this was always fixed in a blink of an eye by the lovely staff!

Review 20:Stayed at the hostel for 2 weeks, felt very welcome and really enjoyed my time :)

Review 21:There were some problems with double charging my card for the booking but hostel gave my money back and behaved in a very professional way.

Review 22:Good quality for moderate price. Hostel is located very close to the bus/railway station and the main attractions in Boston.

Review 23:as a solo traveler, I feel safe in the dormitory style property. It is a Warm, clean place, good breakfast included. The best price for the best location and everything.

Review 24:Probably the noises caused by the closing or slamming of the doors or people talking on their phone at night...however it can be reduced using foam earplugs.

Review 25:I think the price is fair enough

Review 26:Luggage storage costs 3 dollars. Not a big deal if you ask me, but perhaps nice to mention here

Review 27:Staff was very friendly and involved. The hostel organized a lot of fun activities. Location was great!

Review 28:The staff is not that friendly and helpful.

Review 29:Hi Boston is definitely an interesting place to stay for al while. They have a lot of activities for traveler and is a great place for young people.

Review 30:The service was top notch, I do not usually write reviews but honestly I had a great experience in the hostel. The employees were helpful and fun to be around, the place was beautifully design, everything was clean, a wide arrange of cooking material and fun activities. There are more cheap options but it was totally worth it!

Review 31:Floor under bed was dirty, but everywhere else, including kitchen, was beautifully clean.

Review 32:Lovely communal areas, large lockers by bed, good Wifi. Cereals, fruit, bagels, toast and for breakfast. Good programme of tours (mostly free) from the hostel.

Review 33:I wouldn't change a thing

Review 34:I stayed in New York Boston San diego San Francisco and Washington hi hostels it's clean the beds are comfy the staff are here to help no matter what time day or night

Review 35:I stay here at least two or three times a year. It's consistently clean, comfortable and well appointed. Ridiculously convenient to everything from food to theater to buses, trains and even the airport!

Review 36:The wall between rooms is very thin so that I could here everything of neighbors. Even the sound which they turn on the light, I could hear that.

Review 37:It is very clean and quite comfortable than I thought. Especially bathroom is well cleaned and furnished including shampoos and bodysoaps.

Review 38:The thermostat in my room was wonky and we ended up very over heated at night but maintenance did their best to fix it :-)

Review 39:This place spoils all other hostels! Lots of activities to choose from. Friendly, helpful staff. Spotless rooms and immaculately kept common areas!what's not to love!

Review 40:n/a

Review 41:Maureen, Aaron, Walter and the rest of staff made for comfortable and enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this Hostel, and will consider this property on my next trip to Boston!

Review 42:Nothing to complain about

Review 43:I liked everything! Location, guides, clean commodities. Staff, specially tour guides were very helpful and I consider this hostel as a great place to make friends.

Review 44:One rude girl in my dorm who let her light on when she was in the bathroom in the morning and let her alarm clock rang... Too bad to have to pay $3 to store your bag/luggage once you have checked out. It could be free...!

Review 45:Great location (a 15-min walk from the Bus Station and a 15-min walk to go Downtown), possibility to use the kitchen to cook your own meals, breakfast included, safe hostel (card to access your room and the hostel, locker), dorms are clean and each one has his/her privacy. Great stay there! :) I would definitely recommend this hostel

Review 46:Sleeping with others but it's a hostel and everyone is extremely nice and courteous.

Review 47:Never stayed at a hostel before. Was very impressed. Extremely friendly staff and environment. Safe and clean. Very good breakfast. Would recommend to anyone traveling on a budget.

Review 48:Staff too busy to be helpful

Review 49:Super clean and comfortable, excellent location near south bus station and orange line subway. Also walking distance to whole foods

Review 50:It was expensive for a hostel. But breakfast was included as were towels and sheets which aren't always a given at hostels. Still, be prepared to see your wallet take a severe hit in Boston.

Review 51:The location was flawless, perfect for south station and a great starting point for general walks or starting the freedom trail.

Review 52:N/A

Review 53:As soon as I walked through the door, the staff was great! Thank you for having this option available, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at your location!

Review 54:Could use more laundry machines, only minor inconvenience was waiting for a washer to open up.

Review 55:Great place to stay. Clean and hospitable. Had all the necessary amenities.

Review 56:The only small complaint I would have is that the bins in the bathrooms could definitely be emptied more frequently as in the morning they tended to be overflowing.

Review 57:The location, was ideal and the staff were both very helpful and friendly. The rooms were both comfortable and clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 58:- you have to pay for luggage deposit - i am not shure that the sheets and comforters in the dormytory are clean when you check in

Review 59:- services - good position

Review 60:No body made my bed everyday and I wish there were private rooms with private toilets

Review 61:I like everything here :) it's amazing near the subway, everything is around it and clean and the stuff were friendly

Review 62:Washrooms were disgusting that's not the hostels fault its the people staying there being disrespectful

Review 63:Location was great close to everything, beds were comfortable, rooms were clean. I will stay here again for sure.

Review 64:I didn't like having to leave because I was getting used to the location and the people

Review 65:Great friendly and helpful staff. I was lucky to be there with a LOT of great travellers. I really enjoyed the events and activities the hostel had on offer to keep us busy

Review 66:The window is air leak, and it is super cold at night! It was a terrible experience.

Review 67:I won‘t live there anymore! The window is air leak, and it is super cold at night! It was terrible experience.

Review 68:Sound from ventilation equipment. Reception met thr standards but not as friendly as before.

Review 69:Breakfast, cleanliness, facilities, socket and light for every bed.

Review 70:Can't think of anything I didn't like.

Review 71:The staff was excellent. Aaron was going around the cafeteria in breakfast marking up maps for people, giving them ideas on what to see and directions on how to get there. The facility was amazing. Very cool. Definitely the best hostel I have ever been to.

Review 72:Should have additional storage space for extra bag except fr lockers that can still fit in 1 big bagn a handbag

Review 73:Fantastic hostel in downtown.. Close to south station.. Rooms are very clean and good bfast inthe morning.. Fantastic layout of activities throughout the week. Definitely recommended

Review 74:The door was really heavy and making a lot of noise. My bed was just by the door so I was waken up several time by other guests entering the room, even if they were careful. Maybe try to change something about it.

Review 75:The location, the cleanliness

Review 76:Nil

Review 77:This is the best HI that i had ever stayed in USA before San Francisco & NYC. Excellent clean & new facilities ,good security, cozy reception lounge area with a fireplace, clean shower rooms with good amenities.Good location in downtown Boston , easy walk to all city's landmarks,5min walk to nearest subway station, 15-20min walk from Boston South Station bus terminal & Amtrak station.

Review 78:Private room sizes are small - just expect this. breakfast can be exceedingly crowded- like a college cafeteria environment/. Could be chaotic.

Review 79:First time in a hostel considering Boston accommodation costs. Was pleasantly surprised with facility.

Review 80:-

Review 81:The manager of the hotel is such a nice guy. I got realy early in the morning and he helped me to store my luggages, gave me indications. He was realy helpful. Regarding other facilities all I can say is that breakfast is realy good:bagels, fruits, cereals etc. Beds are comfortable, it's clean in the rooms and bathroom. Bathroom is not in the room though. It may be a little bit expensive for a hostel but the location is great :) I was here for two nights and I would definitely stay again :) Greetings to all from Moldova :)

Review 82:Need more to offer on the breakfast and beds needs to be changed regular bed sheets wasn't changed once only on the days u leave

Review 83:Helpfully staff good location

Review 84:The duty manager was flirting with a girl while we were waiting for him!

Review 85:Comfortable stay in this hostel. The room is big and facilities are nice! Hot shower, free breakfast are really good! Recommend this place for my friends! I love the atmosphere in this hostel too!

Review 86:free phones were down, I needed to phone tour operators and couldn't and I had no phone with me having travelled from abroad.

Review 87:location price facilities helpfulness of staff

Review 88:The staff seemed rather impersonal and wasn't entirely friendly.

Review 89:It had everything a youth hostel would need and more. This has been the most extensive in terms of facilities for a hostel I have seen.

Review 90:Everything about this hostel was great. Nice staff, comfortable rooms, clean bathrooms. They have a lot of activities so you get to meet a lot of people. Also, their location could not be better! I strongly recommend this hostel.

Review 91:The staff are not friendly at all. Everything that I asked they answered me in a bad way. Mainly the staff who work at front desk are very serious and sometimes rude.

Review 92:The hostel is very clean and the localization is pretty good, very convenient to access public transportation.

Review 93:Price for value is ok-ish, 70 dollars a night for staying in a 8-dorm is relatively expensive.

Review 94:Its a new hostel, so everything is quite clean and there are very nice bathrooms everywhere. Breakfast good, there could be more fruits but overall ok. Very good wifi.

Review 95:Price per person is kind a high for a dorm kind of a hostel.

Review 96:The atmosphere of the hostel was so cool I really liked that. Clean, safe environment, comfortable bads, breakfast and the events were all nice!

Review 97:Pillow and mattress could've been better. They were far from comfortable and the pillow case was a bit smelly as if hasn't been washed after use. How other guests in the room were quite insensitive making noises and keep the light on in the middle of the night disrupting my sleep as a result I was lack of rest. Perhaps rules and policy can be improved for this matter. Cause I wasn't the only one that complaint.

Review 98:The location and the fact staff at front desk were being very helpful when the assistance were needed

Review 99:AC was a bit noisy, and the room's temp was cool for me.

Review 100:Location, Staff, Breakfast, Safety, Restrooms, Price (when compared to other hotels in Boston), Close to subway station.

Review 101:Some of the bathrooms' locks didn't work properly and people could walk in. Of course they could've knocked but some even tried to get in when it was properly locked even though there was a sign on the door saying 'occupied' in red! :)

Review 102:The place was lovely, clean and the staff very griendly and helpful.

Review 103:Having a map posted as to which way the T (subway) is and how to get there with having to ask staff be quite good .

Review 104:Wish that the check out time was a bit later .

Review 105:A very convenient place to stay with a very high value for money. Close to several subway stops, and walking distance to many downtown attractions. Lockers for storing baggage before check-in and after check-out.

Review 106:Dorm other people leaving lights on Talking with others from out of country Parking a problem

Review 107:Only one tea that I did not like I would come back

Review 108:I love this hostel. They are very accommodating, friendly staff, clean rooms and bathroom with a complementary breakfast. The bathroom is great as well, sore of private, just perfect place to stay. Walking distance to the bus station and sightseers.

Review 109:Due to a confusion, I forgot to pay for my friend, and two nights before leaving, they told us they would have to ask her to go. I recognize my mistake, but if they had tried to reach us better (we had been out everyday from 8 to 10) or even left a note on the bed, they would have saved us the humilliation.

Review 110:You can meet lots of people there and it's very trendy. I really like that.

Review 111:This is my 9th stay at this hostel and the past two times I have noticed a small change in the overall decline of cleanliness of the bathrooms both in the shared room wings and on the main floor.

Review 112:The location is off the charts good. The staff are good. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms (even the shared ones) well appointed.

Review 113:Sometimes the maintainance staff seems like unfriendly, maybe they are busy.

Review 114:I like this hotel so much. I got a commfortable bed, the room clean enough. The front office staff very helpful and friendly. I like the kitchen consept. The best thing is social culture, you can meet people from another country.

Review 115:rude and uninterested staff very noisy room - no chance to sleep no any cleaning and 3 days garbage in the ash bin

Review 116:location Conroy the maintenance man

Review 117:Great location, was a nice, easy walk straight down the main road to where everything was. The decor was really cool, themed floors to look like the subway. Private bathrooms were good and always clean. Beds were comfortable and had a duvet which was much better than the usual blanket.

Review 118:The price - ouch! $50 for one night at a youth hostel? Totally contradictory to their business philosophy, and very disappointing.

Review 119:Beds are awesome! The lockers are huge and easy to use. Staff is friendly, and the free tour of Boston was super cool (definitely recommend it)!

Review 120:I didn't get to breakfast on time, and had to buy a muffin and coffee at the little coffee shop downstairs - I wouldn't get the muffin the next time, it was too stale.

Review 121:My first stay at a hostel, and I was really impressed with how clean and comfortable this was. Linen was fresh and I had a great nights sleep. I had 2 rather large suitcases with me, and they both fit under the bed. I was hoping to leave them at reception but there didn't seem to be an option to check luggage down there.

Review 122:It's within walking distance of major areas including the financial district, Chinatown, Downtown Crossing and buses/trains. You can easily hop on the "T" line and visit Harvard or Cambridge or get to any part of the city. The restaurants in the area are also a major attraction. The rooms and beds are very well kept. I really enjoyed my stay at HI Boston!

Review 123:Some shower soap dispensers were clogged and, one morning, no more clean bath mattes in WC when I needed. Mattress not so comfortable, but tolerable for couple nights.

Review 124:As a solo traveler, HI Boston makes travel to this expensive city possible. I love the common areas and interaction with fellow travelers. The 3hour walking tour of the various areas of the city with Aaron Miller is fantastic! He is an excellent guide!!

Review 125:I know Boston is expensive but price for just one night (at hostel) was way to high.

Review 126:HI - Boston is a really nice place to stay. It has everything you need, it's clean and safe.

Review 127:Only given one towel for the whole stay. If you wanted a clean one everyday you had to pay. Breakfast was 7-10 but gone by 9.

Review 128:The security! After a certain hour you have you use a swipe card to get into the building, then a swipe card to get access to the stairs/ elevator. The lockers in the room were so big, I was able to fit everything in there! The little cubby and personal light is great. The bathrooms weren't just a row of 5 showers like in other hostels, it was one big bathroom. The kitchen space was also a wonderful size as well as the dining. There was also a coffee shop INSIDE the hostel!!! Staff was very willing to to help with any question on directions or what to do, they never seemed annoyed.

Review 129:the airconditioner was situated above my bed and dripped onto my head as i was sleeping eventually i had to turn around and sleep with my feet by the head area. the beds were squeeky and couldnt move much around without making a noise..hard to be considerate to others.

Review 130:i enjoyed the atmosphere

Review 131:Breakfast wasn't the best. Our room was very transient. would of been great to stay in a room with people you were staying for a few nights.

Review 132:The place was very clean, and had friendly people. the kitchen facilities were great and was located in a great location.

Review 133:The rooms were very noisy,I could hear people shower and flush the toilet.

Review 134:My son and I stayed there because we were flying standby and could have easely cancelled our reservation. The location was good.
