Reviews for Hôtel La Grande Bastide

Review 1:We liked everything.

Review 2:The staff was very polite and friendly. The hotel is small, cosy and comfortable - everything you want in a truly provencal atmosphere. The bed is very comfortable and the breakfast - even though a bit expensive - is homemade and delicious.

Review 3:Prices are too high. Pictures in the website tend to overpromise, I don't like it especially when the property is nice enough.

Review 4:Location is great with beautiful view. Very nice breakfast.

Review 5:Too expensive breakfast. Have been to similar places and eaten for less than half of the price. Think also coffe and other lunches were too expensive.

Review 6:Lovely and beautiful place, Nice atmosphere and sorroundings. Clean and very friendly people whom were always very helpful and service minded.

Review 7:Lack of clarity on Booking Com site regarding facilities eg the hotel has no restaurant so does not provide dinner, but you would be unlikely to note that looking at hotel description.

Review 8:Ideal location, just outside St Paul de Vence

Review 9:Owners and staff were correct, but we missed warmth, which could be expected in this type of hotel.

Review 10:The view on St-Paul is stunning, the hotel is beautiful.

Review 11:From the moment we stepped into The Grande Bastide we were welcomed in the warmest of ways and the lovely receptionist could not do enough. This boutique hotel has everything you could want.

Review 12:Tea making in room would be a great help as breakfast expensive if only tea and toast required. Shower was a mixer tap and was very difficult to get average temperature. Either too hot or too cold, my friend had the same problem.

Review 13:Staff helpful Decor superb Lovely views of St Paul Quiet at end of March

Review 14:The room we had was a little small. The Wi-Fi was sometimes intermittent. The ventilation system, as in many French hotels, was not good and we slept with the window open.

Review 15:The location is superb. The staff were wonderful, attentive and welcoming. The breakfasts were copious and we were given a credit on our bill since we "didn't eat much."

Review 16:Breakfast was limited and the hotel does not serve evening meals.

Review 17:This is a small cosy hotel set in beautiful surroundings. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The view of St Paul from our room was simply stunning. The free taxi service into the village was also a nice touch.

Review 18:It doesn't have facilities to do evening meal and although they will shuttle guests to St Paul de Vence in the evening you have to make your own way back and the restaurants in walking distance limit one's choice a bit

Review 19:Spotlessly clean. Staff outstanding in their willingness to do anything to make one's visit pleasurable. This a very well run establishment which does what it does extremely well

Review 20:The mosquitos - you need to take a spray and a net.

Review 21:Authentic Provence villa style hotel, which is very clean and very well maintained and run. The rooms are tastefully furnished and decorated, with plenty of space. The pool and gardens are very well kept, and there are amazing views over the countryside of St Paul and down to the sea.

Review 22:Staff is very stiff. Not a very warm reception upon checking in.Breakfast overpriced for what it is. Wifi ok but does not work onbalconies or by pool. It is a long uphill walk to the village of St.Paulde Vence. No hotel car service after 8pm and taxis cost 25 euros forabout a 1 mile distance to the hotel. Yikes!

Review 23:Swimming pool, balcony with nice view, clean surroundings, jacuzzi wasnice added touch too. The little Deux Chevaux (car) was great inbringing us to the village. Bus stop to beach areas is right next tothe hotel.

Review 24:Perfect location for a retreat. The whole staff was so attentive inclusive the very friendly owners. We enjoyed the superb breakfast buffet in the morning with the view of St. Paul de Vence. Also the lovely room with the direct view was great furnished in the typical provencal style. Perfect location to explore the South of France. We will be back for shure.

Review 25:No evening meal available Shuttle only available until 8pm so necessary to either walk (very hilly) to find a restaurant or pay 20 euros for a taxi from St Paul de Vence which was extremely expensive.

Review 26:Lovely atmosphere Great breakfasts Owners extremely pleasant and helpful Shuttle into town very convenient

Review 27:Internet was intermittent, but the owner said would fixed by the fall 2014. However, i would still stay at la Grande Bastide regardless.

Review 28:Convenient, comfortable and clean with a wonderful view of St. Paul's. The staff is multilingual, professional and very helpful. The free classic Citroen service to and from the old village is a nice touch.

Review 29:You were made to feel very welcome. Nicely appointed room with a interesting view from balcony

Review 30:The rooms, the view, the breakfast, the pool, the entire experience!!

Review 31:SIZE OF ROOMS

Review 32:everything was just perfect from a to z. we will be back shortly.

Review 33:Ok but but not great value for money

Review 34:Comfortable well designed room with great views of St Paul de Vence

Review 35:Nothing really

Review 36:Location and views were epic. Staff very friendly and helpful. Citroen 2cv to shuttle guests to the old town is a very nice touch

Review 37:Excellent breakfast, staff very friendly, location close to Foundation Maeght

Review 38:The staff is wonderful, the breakfast is lovely. And they have a vintage Citroen to drive you to town!

Review 39:Great location near St Paul De Vence. Unique shuttle ride with classic car Views of the city

Review 40:No evening service in restaurant.

Review 41:Overall feel of the place is very good

Review 42:Very expensive breakfast. Overally the rate is too much in comparison with what you get.

Review 43:nice view and outside porch! Very quiet .Clean bathroom

Review 44:Uncomfortable bed and expensive.

Review 45:Staff were excellent Maykalla was wonderful

Review 46:We had a great stay. Very romantic place. Great views to old St. Paul. We appreciated very much that the pool was heated. Will be back soon.

Review 47:Quiet spot, beautiful view

Review 48:Expensive beer 7€! Bit of a dodgy walk to a family restaurant up the road.

Review 49:Excellent friendly service. Lovely rooms. Nice view.

Review 50:Nothing bad

Review 51:It was a wonderful stay with an excellent view on St. Paul de Vence. Everything was perfect. Will be back very soon. Bruno

Review 52:Breakfast is not included

Review 53:Fantastic view of the walled city Relaxing pool and facilities (incl. spa/tub) Friendly, accommodating staff

Review 54:Only one quibble - our suite had no view, although the web site claims all rooms have panoramic view ; be careful when booking! An expensive mistake.

Review 55:Great service, good location, quiet and peaceful, nice food. Car shuttle to town was very useful and fun. Staff friendly and helpful at all times.

Review 56:A really charming hotel with great a view of Saint-Paul de Vence and the sea. The hotel room was hold in provençal style what fits very well to the little pictorial village Saint-Paul de Vence. The room is always very clean and the staff is like the hotel: charming, friendly and helpful. The whirl- and swimming pool are nice. There are some good snacks to get from the hotel after midday and the breakfast is delicious too. The very best service I’ve had in a hotel was the daily shuttle service in a great old Deux CW. I enjoyed my stay there and really recommend it!

Review 57:This was a welcome break after a week of conferences in Cannes. the hotel setting was excellent, it was quiet, clean and the attention from the staff just what we need - there but not intrusive. The vintage 2CV shuttle car to St Paul was a lovely touch. The house rose was very good too.

Review 58:Rooms a bit old and small. Some don't have shower (only bath)...which for me is unacceptable. Jacuzzi water was cold and they did not allow us to change.

Review 59:Friendly staff, good location in Cot D'Azur, nice view from room.

Review 60:Breakfast is on the expensive side but the ambience makes it worth it.

Review 61:The hotel is smaller and more intimate than it appears in photos, morelike a beautiful stone villa than a hotel. The staff is warm, welcoming and extremely helpful, always happy to assist in any way possible, making our stay particularly enjoyable and memorable. A little courtesy car, a quaint soft-top Citroen, is available upon request to drive you to St Paul or back so you don't have to worry about parking, or you can walk the little back lanes. Our room had a wonderful view of St Paul, its walls floodlit at night, and across the valley to the sea in the distance. A stone floor and a high pitched ceiling, old wooden beams painted a dusky sky blue and the roughly plastered walls ragged in a paler blue maintained the atmosphere of a lovely French villa. Paintings lined the walls, pretty curtains covered the windows and art-deco light fittings in blue and yellow glass added an artistic flare. A pretty little balcony with a small table and chairs completed the picture. The bathroom was large, modern and spotlessly clean. The gardens are immaculate and the pool is sparkling, with plenty of lounges around the pool and dotted around the pretty garden and jacuzzi. The beautiful terrace, with its stone flagging and umbrellas invites you sit in the lovely morning sunshine and dawdle over breakfast. Breakfast and a light lunch are served on the beautiful terrace, as are drinks of an evening. Its situation above the main road doesn't detract from its ambience as the road is hidden below. We left our balcony doors open at night and were not disturbed by traffic noise.

Review 62:Breakfast was over priced and seemed to be left out without refrigeration or similar for too long. Distance from town centre was further than we thought Shuttle to town was limited and we needed to phone when it did not arrive at the time on the schedule

Review 63:Location the exclusivity if the site and the views amazing. The pool area and the balcony eating area

Review 64:It seemed expensive. Perhaps you pay a premium for the area and views of St Paul de Vence.

Review 65:The lounges and pool area are lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Courtesy car of a 2CV was helpful and fun.

Review 66:There is jacuzzi, but it was not hot.

Review 67:A very beautiful and charming place. Fantastic setting and incredible views. All rooms appear to have views. Very clean. Very nice and helpful staff.

Review 68:Our room was close to the road, which was quite busy, so we were disturbed by road noise in the morning.

Review 69:The hotel was very well located for a visit to the French Riviera, easily accessible by road with good parking. The public facilities were very stylish and well maintained. The staff were welcoming and very helpful.

Review 70:1. No restaurant - the online details suggested there was2. Air con only blowing hot air. 3. Limited bar. 4. Difficult parking

Review 71:Views + location + excellent 5 star restaurant within 200 meters walk.

Review 72:Lack of restaurant.

Review 73:Free shuttle to village of St Paul De Vence. Very warm and friendly owner and staff. Lovely pool area. Great ambience. Small and personal hotel.

Review 74:annoyance of high noise level in the rooms of the road side, no fitness room, no real spa

Review 75:Very nice building, tasteful furnishings in provencal colours, nice view of St. Paul de Vence, helpful staff

Review 76:Really great staff.

Review 77:The view from our room was magnificent.

Review 78:Rather small Pool and limited beds in the shade.

Review 79:Nice room with great view. Good breakfast and great service. Very friendly staff.

Review 80:the small room

Review 81:the location, the staff, the cleanliness, the friendliness.

Review 82:good position not far from coast but in spectacular position
