Reviews for Ammonite Lodge

Review 1:Beautiful old cottage, scrupulously clean and comfortable. James and Catherine are the perfect hosts! Bathroom very small - not surprising for 300 yr old property - but well appointed so no problem. Eating places and pubs easy walking distance.

Review 2:The only minor downside was that the parking was tricky to access - we parked on a nearby road.

Review 3:Super hosts - nothing was too much trouble. Fresh milk provided in a flask each day for teas and coffees. Extensive choice at breakfast. Spotlessly clean and very tidy.

Review 4:bathroom was perfectly adequate but on the small side.

Review 5:Having stayed here a few times i know what to expect. The staff are polite friendly and very helpful. the rooms have all that i need at a good price in exactly the right location for my needs. Will be back in the near future.

Review 6:I did not like the fact that we did not have a wardrobe no where to hang anything, all we had was a rail with 4 hangers, the toilet and bathroom was across the hall which also had no blind but curtains and when light was on could be seen from across the way. room was very small and tight.

Review 7:The lovely welcome that we got from James and Catherine. The breakfast was ok but not really filling. the bed was comfy and the area was handy for going into town and for a drink.

Review 8:Room compact, bathroom really small. parking more difficult than information suggested.

Review 9:Very lovely people, superb breakfast and clean comfy bed. Good for town centre

Review 10:On the main road, but you can't hear any noise once inside.

Review 11:Lovely decor and little touches, very comfortable bed and quiet room (slept like a baby), friendly and polite owners, delicious breakfast with fresh fruit, convenient parking.

Review 12:Fantastic stay - felt very at home and hugely welcomed. The rooms are beautiful, sunny and super comfortable - had everything I needed and more. The spot is right in the middle of the village. Katherine and James are so kind and welcoming - I can't recommend highly enough.

Review 13:The private parking is down a very narrow passageway so is really only suitable for those with small cars.Plenty of on road parking available.

Review 14:Clean bright rooms.Lovely ,helpful hosts.Great breakfast

Review 15:If I HAD to say anything negative it would be that the family room was in the eaves of this lovely old cottage and therefore we could not stand up straight in many places in the room and had a few bangs to the head - not recommended if anyone is over 5 foot 10. Did not spoil stay though and room was gorgeous.

Review 16:Katherine and James could not have been better hosts. The place was SPOTLESS and the breakfast was great and included amazing fruit salad which I loved!! Fresh milk and lovely biscuits were a lovely touch in the room and nothing was too much trouble.

Review 17:Only issue was our bathroom was separate, across the hallway and although private for our sole use, someone had used it. Not the owners fault but this wasn't ideal.

Review 18:Staff were excellent, room basic but immaculate. i would definitely stay again. Great value for money.

Review 19:For my business requirements the Ammonite is in a perfect setting, the staff are friendly, the rooms clean tidy and well furnished with all i need. The breakfast spead is great and should keep all happy, certainly did me.

Review 20:Creaky floor boards so you could hear people walking down corridor. Thin walls also meant I could hear when people in neighbouring room were watching tv.

Review 21:Friendly hosts and good breakfast

Review 22:Wonderful little guest house, owners could not do enough for us, always asking if we needed anything. Would not hesitate to stay again if visiting this area.

Review 23:Room was quite small and it felt like too many room were packed in.

Review 32:...merely that my schedule did not allow for an extension of my stay... ;-)

Review 33:- warm welcome - extremely friendly & helpful landlords - lovely, affectionate, cuddly pets - tasteful furnishing in lounge, breakfast room and bedrooms; all goes well hand in hand with age and style of the building; VERY homely, comfy & cosy - amazing breakfast buffet with a large selection of fresh fruit, fresh yoghurt, serials, fruit juices and cooked breakfast, prepared according to individual requests of each guest *YUM*

Review 34:There was just one thing that could possibly be improved and that was the WiFi, it kept dropping out, we lost it many times while using it and to internet addicts that can be a bit frustrating especially trying to keep in touch with family at home.

Review 35:The owners are fantastic, exceptionally friendly and accomodating. We had a very comfortable room with everything we needed in it. The food was absolutey wonderful, all fresh and locally sourced. Just an all round great experience. Thank you Clare and Andrew.

Review 36:My husband and myself can not fault anything. Clare upgraded to an on- suite which was a lovely surprise. Clare looked afrter us very well. Can not wait to go back soon.

Review 37:The only thing was that the wi fi didnt connect in the bedroom. But that wasn't really a problem.

Review 38:What a great place and wonderful hosts. We were made to feel welcome before we arrived with great directions over the phone. What friendly, helpful and kind people. From the room to the decor, to the breakfast to the hospitality. All top notch. It's a place we'd definitely want to come again.

Review 39:Ten minutes after the bags were in our room, we were surrounded by a group of locals having cakes and tea in the parlor. An annual charity event was in progress. We were introduced and treated like royalty, And the warmth endured the whole time we were there.

Review 40:Parking in back is good if you have a Mini Cooper or a small fiat, otherwise don't try and park there. Bathroom was too small, toilet was something one saw in a camper unit. Clean but not what I expected.

Review 41:Staff was excellent and one must remember it is a cottage setting, therefore things were smaller than I expected, but breakfast was excellent and it was very clean.

Review 42:all good.

Review 43:Location in town walking distance to pubs, free parking on street, owners friendly, helpful. Great breakfast in lovely room, prices affordable.

Review 44:From the moment I arrived I was made to feel at home. Very friendly and hospitable hosts. Comfortable, well equipped room, with small touches like the retro sweets and fresh milk that take it to a notch above your standard accommodation. Lovely breakfast with fresh local prdduce. I will use again when in the area and recommend high to colleagues, family and friends.

Review 45:Rooms are very tight. Creaky floor boards mean when other guests are moving around, your bed moves too.

Review 46:Staff were excellent and very warm and inviting.

Review 47:I really enjoyed my stay at Ammonite Lodge. The owners were delightful. The property was so beautifully decorated in a traditional old English style, really cosy and pretty. It's location was fantastic for us as we wanted to visit Cheddar Gorge and Lyme regis and as it was in the middle of the two it was perfect. We stayed in room 4 it was lovely I would definitely recommend anyone to stay there.

Review 48:Very friendly couple own the guest house. Facilities clean. Bathroom modern. Liked the touch of offering cake and coffee in the garden to visitors in the afternoon. Breakfast good. My daughter enjoyed Ammonite Lodge and she is a fairly fussy 10 year old. Would def go back.

Review 49:Andrew and Claire were extremely welcoming - the coffee and cake after a long drive were particularly appreciated ! Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was delicious. We stayed in Room 1 which was facing the back of the building and hence very quiet.

Review 50:The compulsory " Eco" toilet system essential because of the age of the cottage. The size of the shower room in our particular room.

Review 51:The warm, friendly and obliging hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. The most tempting and enjoyable breakfast with lots of fresh fruit as well as other options.

Review 52:Affable welcoming host and hostess. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they went out of their way to accommodate us at short notice. The new owners are implementing a programme of updating to a high specification. Berries, cherries and bowls of fruit are just a hint of the outstanding breakfast which awaits you. We would love the opportunity to return.

Review 53:Chard is not a pretty place but very easy to sight see from here.

Review 54:Everything, lovely and clean well stocked hot drinks, Andrew and Clare very helpful very keen to know if we needed anything they did not supply, breakfast was great and cooked to the individual, our room was small but had everything we wanted with very comfortable beds and very hot water, bathroom small but who cares. We would return willing

Review 55:Nothing at all.

Review 56:All the extra touches and the owners fell over themselves to make us welcome.Best value you could hope for nothing was too much effort.

Review 57:Andrew & Clair are wonderful hosts and very welcoming. A pot of tea and big slices of cake in their lovely garden on arrival! Very clean and comfortable room. Fantastic choice for breakfast - everything you can wish for and quality, locally produced ingredients. Would love to stay longer and hope to return some day.

Review 58:My only fault with this was the parking but after saying that the owners sorted me a place right outside the place so not a big issue really

Review 59:Breakfast was fantastic loads to choose from loved the fresh fruit great nights sleep

Review 60:Everything...thought I'd died and gone to heaven..Consummate husband and wife team who simply cannot do enough for you.I've been staying in hotels and BnB's for 40 yrs both in a hospitality capacity and for leisure, and what this lovely couple bring to wthe industry is a breath of fresh air always dressed with a smile...thank you for a wonderful stay and see you next week xx

Review 61:It's hard to find anything really to complain about but if I have to be picky..... the en suite was small, but it had everything I needed.

Review 62:From the moment I walked through the door I felt at home. I received a warm friendly greeting and an instant offer of tea and cake in the garden. My room was spotless, the room facilities were excellent and my "hostess" immediately gave me the fan AND extension lead which I had requested beforehand as the last hotel I had stayed in had given me a room that you could have baked bread in!!! Breakfast next morning was a delight, everything was cooked to perfection and was so beautufully presented that it seemed a shame to eat it. Parking was also easy as although they have their own parking facilities I was able to park literally right outside their front door.

Review 63:Everything! We were so well looked after by the lovely Clare and Andrew whilst staying at Ammonite Lodge. The accommodation is excellent. The breakfast was well and truly the best we had eaten in the month that we travelled through the UK - local fruits, yoghurts, amongst many other things. Delicious! It was in a great location to visit River Cottage for a beautiful meal also. I would certainly recommend that you pay Ammonite Lodge and Chard a visit.

Review 64:Brilliant! Conveniently situated on main street. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Quality towels and bedding and all the toiletries you could need. Good choice of drinks and lovely biscuits! The breakfast was amazing - superb choice of cereals, fruit and lovely yogurts and the full English was so tasty (all local produce) and cooked perfectly. Andrew and Claire - the owners/ hosts were so welcoming and eager to please in every way - they couldn't have been better! Will definitely come again

Review 65:What is there not to like? Beautiful house, wonderful hosts, greeted with tea, coffee and chocolate cake on arrival. Lots of personal touches in the room, comfort at its best. Breakfast was superb!! Great location too. Will definitely be recommending to others and we will be back if in the area.

Review 66:Nothing

Lovely character dining room Fabulous breakfast with bowls of fresh strawberries apricots cherries etc, followed by generous cooked breakfast and quality preserves. Nothing too much trouble and fantastic value for money. Will definitely return if we find ourselves in that area again

Review 71:If there ever is a guidebook to be made "How to make the perfect Bed and Breakfast"... Stay here a week and get all the details. Such a commitment to service and genuine kindness is rarely experienced! Perfect location for an event at River Cottage with only 15-20 min. drive through the nice countryside.
