Reviews for Hotel les Vergers de Saint Paul
Review 1:Stunning location walking distance to Saint Paul de Vence. A very simple and elegant hotel. The proprietor, Jaques and his wife Odette, were great hosts and very knowledgable about the area.
Review 2:We loved this hotel! Beautifully situated, lovely rooms. Our friends had a suite--very nice...but no view if that is important. We had a balcony with beautiful view--decor of both was well done. Breakfast (not included) was very good---same price for everything, so indulge! Very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 3:climbing lack of privacy
Review 4:Very steep uphill entrance good parking small bedroom accessed by many steps no lift this presents problems for anyone who has cardiovasclular or respiratory issues bedroom lacked privacy however reception staff were very effective and helpful
Review 5:Very comfortable hotel with a lovely pool, 1 km down the hill from Saint Paul where there are a few good restaurants. There is one very nice restaurant right next door to the hotel.
Review 6:Poor quality shampoo and soap, no lotion or hair conditioner, which would normally be supplied in a hotel of this quality and price. A hook for the shower head and a shower screen would be useful. We had a large heavy bag which was difficult to carry up 2 flights of stairs. No lift.
Review 7:Nice pool area and hotel decoration, rooms which private balcony
Review 8:Limited choice for breakfast. Bath in room, no shower.
Review 9:Quality room and quality fittings - good view from second floor balcony. Pleasing aspect, nice pool. Nice breakfast room. Good people running and working at the hotel. two minute walk to decent restaurant
Review 10:Could be better: The room a little small and dark. Saint-Paul is quite close but you need a car to go to other cities, attractions and the bakery 3-4 km from the hotel (they have good breakfast and coffee at very low prices compared to the 14€ at the hotel).
Review 11:Great: Really charming and cosy pool area with enough space for the guests. The idyllic and authentic style of the hotel/rooms (furniture, colors, etc.). The staff was really great too. From the minute we arrived we felt very welcome by the friendly staff. We really loved this charming hotel - it has a nice calme and idyllic atmosphere. The right size for us - big enough to meet other people and small enough to still feel the intimacy.
Review 12:No facilities to make a drink in room or a fridge. Breakfast minimal most expensive yet in France . Bread and croissants only, plus orange juice and tea or coffee. Towels for pool were older stained ones....
Review 13:Beautiful room and decor. Superb pool and setting
Review 14:There is no possibility to order a salad or other snack during the day. So be prepared if you want to spend the day at the pool.
Review 15:We stayed 3 nights in july, only one of the smaller rooms was available. Small but spotlessly clean, bed very comfy, romantic style room with a terrace and view. Swimming pool aerea not big but nice and comfortable. Walking distance to beautiful Saint Paul de Vence. Very friendly and efficient service and reasonable prices for drinks. We are already planning to go back.
Review 16:Such a charming hotel. Beautiful grounds and really charming rooms with a real sense of taste and a little individuality setting it apart from the "chain' hotels we have stayed in. A real lucky find as we got three rooms at very short notice. Excellent breakfast in a charming room. Even had swimming pool for those who were up to it. Easy walk, though uphill, to the magnificent St Paul de Vence with a range of restaurants competing with each other for quality cuisine and friendly service. A real treasure discovered a little bit by accident.
Review 17:This is a first class hotel owner run small hotel close to perfect for couples. It is 20 minutes by taxi from Nice airport (60 euros). If you have a car there is good and ample parking, on a budget it seems all bus journeys even to Nice cost 1.5 euro. The hosts Jacque and Rachel have service and delivery down to an art. The breakfast is fine, have the breakfast! The pool and pool side are perfect, this is not a place for children so it is a sophisticated leisure area. Book a larger double. Nobody looks in the rooms by the pool. Both the white wine and the red wine are good (25 euro), as are the cool beers so order them no need to sneak anything in. On the first night to get some some dinner in, there is an Italian restaurant (I'Oliver Rouge) close by up the hill 100m, a short menu so have the risotto (20e) not the pizza although ok and order the Chablis (30 euro, well worth it). The bus stop up to St Paul is on the other side of the road, costs 1.5 euro, always a bit late as starts off from Nice an hour away by bus. Or if miss the bus (every hour) St Paul is 20 minute walk up the hill, keep right and take the obvious road on right after a few hundred metres, just follow it keeping left. The brassiere at top right and restaurant a little further on still on right are fine. At top left is La Columbe d'Or restaurant you need to book well ahead, menu not changed in 10 years, restricted wine list (R, W, rose), for two with wine 140 euros, paintings are amazing, we sat under a Miro. Best book and get a table inside. The St Paul castle is interesting, shops gone a bit tat, church excellent. Bus back down is always on time, ligne 400. Bus to Nice is worth it to drive along Promenade des Anglais.
Review 18:The hotel is a beautiful property with very tasteful design. Fabulous art. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Lovely view, lovely pool, great jacuzzi. King size bed and quiet nights. Thank you!
Review 19:Liked everything . however, Water gets on the floor too easily whilst showering /or bathing -even when one is careful- so it would be helpful if this could be rectified. Although I understand why there are no glass partitions or other - e.g. shower curtains would certainly NOT be something I'd ever welcome . I imagine that during the hotter months this all hardly matters!
Review 20:Quality without pretence. No superficiality. A relaxed atmosphere Room pleasant- As are the surrounding gardens. Meticulously clean. Well ventilated ( windows on both sides of the building) and shaded when hot sun shining. Shutters perfect. Staff courteous showing genuine consideration. In this case : Small is definitely better! Would recommend. Bus service regular.
Review 21:This is a small and charming hotel with delightful hosts who make you feel very welcome. They were very helpful in recommending things to do and local restaurants. We will be back.
Review 22:We loved the room, the ambiance, the cordiality of the owner, the beds by the pool, the location. We would return to use this again as a base for our visits in the area. We could criticise nothing. We were relaxed and enjoyed our stay.
Review 23:Only had a bath, no shower, the room could do with a chest of drawers, not being allowed to eat in your room, could do with a bar in the hotel
Review 24:Large room with balcony, the owner was friendly and recommended places to visit and eat. Bed was very comfortable, nice quiet hotel, lovely pool, good location
Review 25:no negative comments
Review 26:The location, the staff and the property were wonderful. Our room, # 9 had a balcony/terrace and wonderful view. parking was very convienient. This was a good place to have a little space and peace from the town. Would def stay there again. Shelly was great and helped us get our travel and maps straight. All in all a very good decision to stay at the hotel les vergers. Breakfast was good too. The room was spacious and comfortable.
Review 27:A lot of rules such as no eating in rooms. Pool closed at 9pm. You were able to order tea and coffee and soft drinks from reception.
Review 28:the layout of the hotel gave it a friendly feel. It was easy to meet other guests and strike up conversation. If you accepted that this is a family run B&B with few of the services of bigger hotels it is very comfortable for a few days or even longer.
Review 29:The only thing that I didn't like about the hotel was 1 element in the bathroom. It was beautiful and well appointed - but I prefer to shower rather than bath. There was a hand held shower-head but no curtain so I tended to flood the whole bathroom while i juggled with the one-handed showering!
Review 30:St Paul de Vence was an amazing place to visit. A combination of history, culture and beauty. The people were very friendly and tolerant of my very rusty French! however, they could understand & speak English well. We were able to day trip to Monaco & Nice via local trains which was easy if not a very long day! The Hotel les Vergers was just 2 stops via local bus to the centre of town or if your up to it you can walk. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helped with our luggage (mine was - well somewhat large and very heavy) The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed and our balcony over-looked the valley below. While we did not eat at the hotel (simply by choice) we often had a bottle of wine brought to our room, which was good quality and well priced. The whole experience was extraordinary and we would recommend it to anyone travelling to South of France. Was certainly a highlight of our trip!
Review 31:Cold wooden floors but I was not feeling well
Review 32:Staff great
Review 33:The reception was warm. The view from the bedroom was beautiful. The interior of the hotel is tasteful and the garden of the hotel is attractive.
Review 34:Noisy road during the day
Review 35:Nice quality hotel with pleasant atmosphere. Good pool.
Review 36:15 minutes walk along main road to the town
Review 37:Comfortable room with a great view.
Review 38:Staff was most helpful after we arrived late because of a lost bag.
Review 39:high price for breakfast
Review 40:Location
Review 41:bathroom a bit aakward (tub only)
Review 42:great value, friendly staff, chic decor.
Review 43:I liked the pool, how quiet everything was, and how near we were to Vence and St Paul de Vence.
Review 44:Attractive comfortable rooms and surroundings. The staff were all very nice and extremely helpful. The pool was clean and gardens cared for.
Review 45:Small rooms and no head shower.
Review 46:Hotel really close to St Paul de Vence! Great Pool area.
Review 47:Breakfast poor, with little more fantasy could do much more
Review 48:Style, Furniture, Charme of the Room and Hotel
Review 49:Very welcoming. Beautiful hotel with fabulous facilities.superb location with walking distance to the old town. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 50:a little far from the village
Review 51:Nice swimming pool
Review 52:Great place! Nice staff.
Review 53:Picturesque surroundings and beautiful St. Paul de Vence - real artistic treasure.
Review 54:The pool is wonderful. The setting is gorgeous.
Review 55:Fantastic location and hotel, welcoming staff.
Review 56:We missed in our room a refrigerator and coffee/tea facilities.
Review 57:Fantastic staff, makes you feel very welcome . Nice spacious pool and lounge beds
Review 58:Beautiful hotel. The rooms were very nicely decorated and the view of the pool and hillsides were wonderful
Review 59:Warm reception, brautiful place, excellent swimming pool and great view!
Review 60:The atmosphere and the place
Review 61:the room and bethroom desin, the light and the views
Review 62:A little dated but still in good condition
Review 63:Good location and large room and bath
Review 64:Car parking spaces were tight for large cars
Review 65:Cleanliness Spacious rooms Large comfortable beds Superb continental breakfast Poolside setting
Review 66:Lack of proper "hanged" shower (it was hand-held over the bathtub).
Review 67:Location. Pool with balcony facing it.
Review 68:Lovely staff, lovely room, really enjoyed my stay (4 nights). Would definitely come back or recommend this hotel!
Review 69:No stand-up showers
Review 70:The hotel's location, the rooms, the staff, the pool.
Review 71:Would have loved a small fridge in our room for cold water as it was very hot
Review 72:Great pool and balcony The room was lovely Friendly owner
Review 73:Excellent location, friendly efficient staff and pretty rooms. Lovely pool area and good parking.
Review 74:Nothing it was all excellent
Review 75:All of the staff were very welcoming and media rely adze us feel at home. The receptionists spoke good English and were very helpfull with regard to wheelchair access both at the hotel and in St. Paul de Vence. Their breakfasts were excellent They also recommended a new restaurant which had just opened beside them. We will definitely stay there agsin
Review 76:Hand shower in the bath rather than a 'stand up' shower - not a big deal though
Review 77:Great welcome from the owner. Style feels authentically 'French riviera'.
Review 78:On arriving, we found the person on reception was not particularly welcoming or happy. There is no lift to the 1st and 2nd floors and no assistance was offered carrying our suitcases up the stairs. Some rather strange rules reminded me of my days at boarding school. Although there is a table and two chairs on the balcony these are apparently not to be used for eating a meal. "....picnics are strictly forbidden in the rooms as is the consummation of food and drink brought in from the exterior" even though there was no restaurant at the hotel. I did order a small bottle of rosé to be served outside, and although it was OK to have the wine bottle in the vicinity of the pool, I was told we had to drink out of plastic glasses. I found this very disappointing, being a grownup and all.
Review 79:This hotel is a small attractive property with a good pool area and sun loungers. My room was small but well equipped and there was a balcony overlooking the pool. Breakfast was adequate with bread and croissants, cheese or ham, but no omelette or cooked egg options. About 20 minutes easy walk up the main road to St Paul de Vence which is a stunning little town.
Review 80:internet connection was weak to non-existent and the breakfast was not included in the price which seemed a little much given the cost was not cheap
Review 81:nice setting. good views, very friendly and helpful staff
Review 82:the breakfast seemed expensive so we did not choose to have it; but, who knows, maybe it was worth it?!
Review 83:The room was not only clean and roomy, it was also very beautiful, and the bed was quite comfortable. The staff makes you feel welcome and privileged, and to top it off, parking is free...
Review 84:The breakfast was very poor. Given the price of 14 EUR per person, I would have expected more than few pieces of bread and 4 slices of cheese.
Review 85:The hotel is situated just beside a bus stop (line 400), making it accessible for persons without a car. The room features a balcony that is overlooking the pool and the mountains. That was great!
Review 86:Rien, nichts, nada......
Review 87:Nice small hotel, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. . The hotel is only a short walk from the village. Have stayed here before and hope to do so again one day.....
Review 88:Had two visits to hotel with the first Suite#6 best suited to one person or two with little luggage as room rather small.Second visit we upgrades to a suite#7 which was perfect for our needs and was provided at a discounted rate which was much appreciated. Nespresso coffe machine in the room would be a worthwhile addition. An ironing board in the laundry would be useful
Review 89:Excellent service with friendly staff. Breakfast adapted to suit our needs and well priced. Location was perfect for our needs.
Review 90:Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel was small and well furnished and in an excellent location close to St.Paul ,Nice and the mountains.
Review 91:No restaurant or bar, few facilities, cramped parking
Review 92:Quiet Location 15 min walk from mediaeval village , clean well designed rooms, good sized pool , friendly staff
Review 93:everything was perfect
Review 94:Very good hotel with a little pool. excellent staff! at our arrival we were upgraded to suite, it was the best room with jacuzzi what we ever seen in hotels. Good value for money. it takes about 15 minutes to get to Saint Paul de Vence - amazing medieval town with a lot of galleries and restaurants. must to see!
Review 95:Breakfast is definitely overpriced for what one receives. We thought that for the price we would receive more than just continental breakfast.........coffee and roll....only.
Review 96:I liked the patio with the view of the pool. I liked the totally relaxation feeling created by this environment. The room was very comfortable, small but sufficient for us.
Review 97:Terrible parking situation (don't park at the hotel, further down is fine if you don't mind a little walk - otherwise scratches happen), pool is very small. Not really close to anything (car needed).
Review 98:Friendly and helpful service, good place in general.
Review 99:Staff was a little distant.
Review 100:It was our honeymoon, and we were given an upgrade without even asking! Our room was great, lots of space. Nice pool and great location if you want to explore Saint Paul de Vence, an amazing little town with lots of galleries and some good restaurants.
Review 101:our air conditioner did not work...they supplied a fan which did not help much...breakfast is overpriced for what you get...they say it is walking distance to St. Paul de Vence, but it is 900 meters a lot of it uphill...so have to drive and park which is a challenge unless early am
Review 102:wonderful pool...nice and quiet even though on a main road...very helpful and friendly staff (one helped us navigate our way to the airport for our departure as the Tour de France came in that day!!)
Review 103:A bit run down but still good value for money nevertheless Breakfast is a bit poor
Review 104:Ideal location between Nice and Cannes St-Paul is superb little village with some very good restaurants Easy parking Lovely swimming pool Lovely terraces Rooms are decorated with style
Review 105:The most friendly and helpful staff that I have encountered anywhere inEurope. This hotel has a great family feel and the staff couldn'thave been more welcoming and accommodating. The location is great; ashort walk into the village of Saint Paul and the 400 bus runs fromright outside and offers a practically door to door service with Vence,Canges Sur Mer sncf, Nice airport and Nice.
Review 106:Delighted with everything.
Review 107:This is a beautiful property and is a joy to have as a base for visiting Saint Paul region including trips into Nice. The grounds are kept immaculately and the rooms are imperfect condition. We didn't use the pool due to weather, but it was very inviting. The Continental Breakfast was simple and without fault. Really enjoyed our time there.
Review 108:Les Vergers is one of these places you keep going back to. Amazing setting, next to the splendid village of St Paul de Vence, the whole experience is memorable. From the time you arrive, the service is excellent, the staff makes you feel very welcomed and every attention is given to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Les Vergers is referred to as a "hotel de charme" and it's certainly deserves its name. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting a romantic break or simply something different.
Review 109:The parking spaces need to be wider.
Review 110:Very comfortable room. The pool. The balcony on the room was an advantage. Breakfast was well presented and enjoyable.
Review 111:The location was good only a short walk to Saint Paul centre. The hotel facilities and rooms were beautiful, comfortable and very well looked after. It felt intimate and luxurious.
Review 112:Having booked a luxury double room, we were upgraded to a suite onarrival. The main purpose of our stay was to rest and during the day wehad the pool area to ourselves, that combined with superb weather formid September made for a peaceful, relaxing and restful stay. Theamazing en suite jacuzzi bath added an extra "spa-like" feel and when wereturn next year we will have no hesitation in reserving the suite againfor our break.
Review 113:The interior, the beautiful wooden floor, the spacious marble bathroomand individual service!
Review 114:The rooms and the interior had been wonderful! The Location of the hotelis grand! Completely on the countryside and 2 minutes away from St. Paulde Vence! The service and the team is extraordinary caring and friendly! For sure we will return!
Review 115:Rooms were beautifully decorated, but at a hotel of that price category I would expect at least some storage facility, like draws, and some level spaces to place things. All we had was a 40cm round table and No fridge !!!
Review 116:Good location and nicely decorated comfortable rooms
Review 117:Parking spaces too small and damage will be caused by people opening doors from cars in next space. Air conditioning not effective - although it was during a very hot spell. No fridge or mini-bar in room
Review 118:Location, cleanliness of room
Review 119:More of a classy B&B than a hotel in that there appears to be no other availability for meals and drinks than breakfast. Breakfast seems rather expensive at 14 euros per person, however this is a very tourist area. ( For that price I would have expected freshly squeezed orange juice! )
Review 120:Lovely helpful staff. Beautiful and comfortable room with air-conditioning and great view of pool. We didn't go in pool but the pool looked v inviting with attractive loungers and parasols surrounding it. ( we were only there for one night as it was end of our holiday and picked the hotel for short distance to Nice airport and nearness to artistic village of St Paul De Vence.)
Review 121:This is a 5 star bed and breakfast. Very close to st pauls village which but the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and stunning pool and rooms puts this hotel in a league of its own. Rachel on the front desk is a wonderful scot who went out of her way to make sure we felt relaxed and welcome. I would rather we kept this hotel a secret but it deservesa 5 star review.
The Fine Print
