Reviews for Le Vieux Carré

Review 1:We had a room next to the kitchen and an open courtyard where people ate and smoked day and night. The cigarette smoke and noise made our stay very unpleasant. The room we had should have never been used as a guest room!

Review 2:The hotel was lovely and quaint. Being right in Rouen it was convenient for shopping, walking, site seeing and eating. The woman who checked us in was delightful and extremely helpful. We loved sitting downstairs enjoying some local cider and watching the cat.

Review 3:A chest of drawers near the bedside to put small items in would be very useful. This is needed for guests who have a longer stay.

Review 4:The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. The cat was entertaining.

Review 5:It is very near to the city center qnd is very safe and clean.Overall a great experience They give an abundant breakfast and as a tourist they guide me and told me where to take the busses and help me.

Review 6:There are a lot of stairs making it difficult if you are older and have heavy luggage. It is on a pedestrian street so there is no parking at the hotel or even in front for drop off.

Review 7:The staff were very accommodating. The hotel is charming. The location is central

Review 8:Walls are too thin---a couple with a baby stayed next door to us and the baby was up until about 2am crying on and off. Then three people (must have been out partying) were on the balcony facing our room and they were talking very loudly until 4 am---it was a tough night. Also, it was tough to find the hotel. And we couldn't locate the parking and the owner finally went with us to help us locate the hotel parking.

Review 9:Wonderful location---centrally located. Service was great! Beautiful and quaint hotel. Nicely appointed room. The town of Rouen is beautiful and would go back to the town for sure.

Review 10:We had trouble getting a wifi connection on the third floor.

Review 11:Great location close to all the sights. Charming old building with lots of character. Helpful host.

Review 12:Tricky to find in the car but simple once you know how to find the underground car park.

Review 13:Great place charming, comfortable and friendly. Lovely breakfast. Dogs welcome.

Review 14:The breakfast was overpriced for a chunk of bread and a croissant. Was expecting a selection of pastries and/or some cheeses/meats.

Review 15:Very traditional building, courtyard area, friendly owner, comfortable stay.

Review 16:Not easy if you are driving as our GPS tried to take us down a pedestrian street. Lots of noise at about 2am but that's the price for such a central location

Review 17:Comfortable and clean rooms, pleasant courtyard and dining room, warm welcome from staff and wonderful Central location.

Review 18:Public parking is possible at a location nearby (reservation is not possible) and costs EUR 10 per day. is what booking says but it is actually 17euros per day.

Review 19:Location was great.

Review 20:nothing

Review 21:Authentic and very pleasant hotel in the heart of the city. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Don't miss the illuminating show on the Cathedral!

Review 22:Not applicable except wifi really only available in reception or courtyard, you can't help that in very old historic buildings

Review 23:I thought it was a lovely place, quiet, it was comfortable, close to everything and I had 3 good sleeps there. The courtyard and tea shop is beautifully decorated, old and really French, great.

Review 24:ran out of toilet paper ... two lights in the bathroom were blown and not replaced in the two days we were there ...

Review 25:beautiful and central location !!!

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:Emanuelle is very nice, helpful and accurate. I didn't expect to arrive in town center. Because of the pictures of the hotel. It looks as if it is situated in the country side with a garden, lots of green. But then the mansion with a lot of green is right inside the beautiful old part of town. This year all rooms re-done very tasteful.

Review 28:Not the easiest of places to find, especially as we arrived in the dark. Reception was closed so we had to phone up whilst waiting at the gate to be told the code for the keypad on the wall - so make sure you have your movie with you. Keys were on the reception desk and our rooms were clean and functional. Decent breakfast in the morning. The room we had were on a dead end corridor and the corridor smelt somewhat fusty, but that's our only minor complaint.

Review 29:Beds not very comfortable.no air con very noisy at night if window open to cool room

Review 30:Location,lovely court yard near all shops. Underground parking 100 m from hotel staff friendly.very charming pet cat

Review 31:The location is absolutely perfect for exploring Rouen; of which there is much to do. Secure underground car park nearby. Hotel is excellent value for money with friendly staff.

Review 32:The hotel decor and courtyard provided a very relaxing atmosphere, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent value for money.

Review 33:Very hard to access by car (though once the hotel was found for unloading luggage the public car park was conveniently placed).

Review 34:Location for walking everywhere. Helpful staff who recommended very good and close restaurant for evening meal: Pascaline in rue de la Poterne. The cat, of course.

Review 35:Climbing three flight of stairs with our luggage was a challenge.

Review 36:Loved this quaint little hotel. Very comfortable and the best breakfast In a long while.

Review 37:The ground floor room was dark, dismal and dank, had a distinct odour, and was in desperate need of major refurbishment. The bathroom was grim. It was obviously adapted for disabled guests but the equipment was old and filthy. The handbasin was badly cracked and the light above the mirror did not work. Towels were clean but beyond their sell-by date. Perhaps we were unfortunate to have been allocated this room, the hotel was full so we could not relocate. We had the impression that the rooms above stairs (where the carpet started) were of a superior standard. We reluctantly stayed just to sleep there. We shall not return.

Review 38:The location was excellent.....centre ville ....and parking within a hundred metres The breakfast was simple, adequate and reasonably priced.

Review 39:Better advise on parking would have made life easier. The hotel is situated in a closed street, however their is a parking station under the shopping centre nearby which was easy once we found it.

Review 40:The location was excellent, and the chic and quirky hotel was very genuine. The host was great and room was comforatable and quiet.

Review 41:(Not the fault of the hotel!) Difficult to navigate central pedestrian area on arrival. Could have done with instructions / directions to nearest car park (Du Palais)

Review 42:Great location, charming hotel, clean and comfortable; we were made to feel very welcome.

Review 43:Charming property, good value for money, helpful staff, very friendly. Adored the kitty; he was charming and coy. Perfectly situated for train arrival and all the historic monuments. Very quiet.

Review 44:Very unfrendly welcom at the reception, very rare in France. No conneting rooms available, although requested weeks in advance. No explanation about breakfast or anything else. Wifi didn't work in the rooms.

Review 45:Room was nice with a charming view. Location is very good but difficult to access by car (pedestrian street).

Review 46:The location was excellent and staff very attentive. We had a medical event during our stay, and the staff was most cooperative, attentive and helpful.

Review 47:Stayed on a Saturday night. Expected there to be noise obviously as it's very central, but it was extremely noisy. A nearby club and a lot of drunk people meant we got no sleep until after 2am. We were in room 32 on the top floor. The breakfast was underwhelming.

Review 48:The style of the hotel, although the guinness posters baffled me. The location of the hotel, apart from the noise mentioned.

Review 49:Nothing, except for (as in many hotels) insufficiently strong bedside lighting.

Review 50:Warm welcome from the lady. She also served breakfast, which was both good and good value. The friendly cat is a bonus.

Review 51:Quite hard to find by car. We got slightly lost in the windy roads around the cathedral but eventually found it after finding an English couple with a map!

Review 52:Gorgeously quirky tea room with delicious tea and cakes, a beautiful courtyard, friendly staff, wonderful French breakfast with freshly squeezed OJ all in a central location about 3 mins walk from cathedral. Oh and the cute hotel cat! It's basic but comfortable and just what we needed for a 2 night stay.

Review 53:Shower head was a little low for a tall person but a small price to pay for such a great stay.

Review 54:Lovely, friendly staff who spoke excellent English. Breakfast was delicious. The whole ambience was warm and very 'old' style French.

Review 55:Room needed soundproofing, could hear adjoining room occupants clearly. Poor service in evening, indifferent service when asking for hot drink.

Review 56:The pretty facade and courtyard, and good wifi connection. Nice cosy sitting area around reception. Excellent location for walking old rouen.

Review 57:The bathroom needs to be renovated. The shower couldn't be used like a shower since there was no where to hang the shower rose and the drainage was poor.

Review 58:The location is great. It's in the centre of town and close to the train station. The building is a lovely old building with lots of character. The breakfast was good.

Review 59:The great, traditional, old style, dark, atmospheric breakfast and eating room, complemented by the lush vegetation of the courtyard. The breakfast was generous in this engaging atmosphere.

Review 60:Rooms were quite limited on the storage side. No drawers to put anything, 4 coat hangers between the 2 of us. As we do not speak French breakfast was very difficult as they did not speak English. No Tea & Coffee making facilities.

Review 61:Location was great, in the centre of Town and everything was walking distance. Wonderful old building just what we expected. Good value for the cost. Lovely little Court Yard.

Review 62:Nothing.

Review 63:Everything. It is located in the centre of Rouen town and it is only 10 minutes walk from the train station. Room was nicely furnished, clean and spacious. Wifi worked well. No elevator but the staff helped me with my heavy luggage. Lovely, chic restaurant cafe on the ground floor. I would like to try the breakfast the next time, which I did not have time to have this time. A total value-for-money hotel in Rouen. I will definitely stay here again the next time I come.

Review 64:Staff wasn't unfriendly, but quite uninvolved. If all you need is to check in and check out, all is well.

Review 65:Location was very walkable. Quaint place with the cafe just inside. Facilities were about what we expected for a European stay.

Review 66:Rouen is a wonderful city with many hotels, but the Vieux Carre is a gem, right in the old town. So pretty, so French!..Just off the pedestrian street behind gates. You wouldn't know you were in a busy area, we are so glad we booked and will be booking again soon!

Review 67:My room was faced to the other apartment; however, the remaining rooms were faced to the indoor garden. The indoor garden looks good. The room is comfortable and very cost effective.

Review 68:If you are staying in an interesting building you will have to accept that there will probably be no airconditioning or lift, and if you are in an old city centre there may be noise from pedestrians or party goers. As it happened, it was relatively quiet for a Saturday evening.

Review 69:Location in centre of town near all the sights. Charming building inside and out, full of character. Stylish. Friendly staff. Good continental breakfast. Nearby underground parking which you can locate on your Satnav.

Review 70:Well, the weather could have been nicer ...

Review 71:This is a truly unique gem of a place. Full of character, excellentrestaurant (at least for lunch, didn't try dinner) and charmingthroughout, right down to the cat who lives there. Fabulous location, very quiet at night even with the windows open, close walk to everythingimportant in Rouen. It is charming in the "old Europe" manner- it is not a Holiday Inn. So it is well worn, with sloped floors, smallish rooms, etc. but the bathroom was perfectly acceptable even byNorth American standards. Soft bed but perfectly ok.

Review 72:We were in the 3rd floor with heavy suitcases! Wifi did not work in the room but fine downstairs and a good excuse to order from their great selection of teas.

Review 73:Excellent tea! Amazing medieval building and a great location.

Review 74:Very relaxed; lounge downstairs comfortable and excellent breakfast. The location was brilliant - so we could happily wander for shopping and an evening meal. We stayed on the way to the south and booked again on the wayback!

Review 75:Couldn't find it by car, spent an hour lost in Rouen searching for hotel (in a pedestrian zone which we weren't aware of and couldn't get to!) Parking round the corner in underground car park which we had to pay extra for. Bedroom comfy but could have done with a dusting and would have been nice if someone had removed the old cigarette butts from outside the window.

Review 76:A calm oasis in city. Lovely courtyard, fabulous breakfast, authentic traditional French feel. Friendly staff, small but comfy room. Very reasonable price.

Review 77:The car park is a nightmare but they have no choice. Note the number where your car is parked and on which level so that you can find it again!!! The Cathedral exit lift is the closest.

Review 78:The Location was unusual and different. Like being in another age. Could have been a set for 'alo alo'. We did not book breakfast although the food looked good. Beautiful city and cathedral but quiet on a Sunday.

Review 79:There was nothing we really disliked, but if you want a hotel with a lift and air-conditioning, go somewhere else!

Review 80:The building, the location, the decoration. Public underground carpark near hotel.

Review 81:No wifi. Had to carry luggage up the stairs, but it's an old building so it is what it is. Luggage storage after check out meant leaving it behind the reception desk which is not constantly attended.

Review 82:Walking distance from train station, right in the middle of town. Our room on the top floor had a great view over the town and the iconic paris roof tops. Rouen is a beautifully preserved town and staying here added to the experience while still being comfortable.

Review 83:That parking was so far away; that the stairs were very steep, with shallow treads; that our (adult) daughter & grandchild were given an attic room (very stuffy & very hot) even though we requested a lower-floor room (one of them has bad knees, and it was difficult for her to climb those stairs). The rooms were quite dated and very plain. The smoke from guests & the hotel manager's cigarettes wafted up from the courtyard patio below.

Review 84:The location was decent, although inconvenient. The manager was kind. The coffee was good. There is a darling cat on the premises.

Review 85:i think that the staff is not used to Asian visitors?

Review 86:the location is convenient; between the railway station and the old town centre, and right in the midst of a hip area.

Review 87:Perfect location and good value for money

Review 88:The beds are very low.

Review 89:Fab location and really pretty old property. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely ambiance.

Review 90:Great location, really comfortable bed, lovely living room full of antiques where you can sit with a coffee or tea

Review 91:Great location to view the centre of the city. Delicious breakfast.

Review 92:Helpful staff

Review 93:Well located. Clean and practical

Review 94:No lift

Review 95:The location was fabulous, the atmosphere and lovely hotel courtyard right in the centre of Rouen, very friendly owner and staff

Review 96:Finding location and parking was a challenge.

Review 97:Very quiet and comfortable; great view from our room on 3rd floor

Review 101:Excellent location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable, good value.

Review 102:Superb location and relaxing atmosphere

Review 103:Charming. Very nostalgic.

Review 104:Bed slightly sloping?!

Review 105:Perfect location for old Rouen. V good value for money

Review 106:Wifi only at the ground flour.

Review 107:- beautiful inner courtyard - Atmosphere of the location - Nice City

Review 108:There was no cot available for our 2 year old.

Review 109:Very query, and in a brilliant location, right in the heart of Ruen

Review 110:No wifi reception on 3rd floor

Review 111:Excellent location, very kind and helpful host, delicious traditional breakfast, charming hotel.

Review 112:An offhand reception when we arrived.

Review 113:The location, the uniqueness and meeting Madame in the morning.

Review 114:The relaxed ambiance . . .

Review 115:Trying to find it in the car.

Review 116:The location and welcome.

Review 117:Room was in need of update/reno.

Review 118:Location was central to old area, close to good restaurants.

Review 119:Noise of guests next door but not hotels fault

Review 120:Friendly atmosphere. Situated right in the heart of Rouen. Great tea.

Review 121:The room itself was very small and uncomfortable with poor furnishings

Review 122:Great location and courtyard

Review 123:small room

Review 124:location, ambience of cafe

Review 125:I truly enjoyed my stay at le Vieux Carre and will stay there during my future visits to Rouen.

The Fine Print
