Reviews for The Haymaker Inn
Review 1:WE thought that the food was poor and little choice if you are staying longer than one night. The breakfast was always fantastic must of been a different chef.
Review 2:Disappointing first impression from the outside with unattended gardens and entrance steps. Whilst our room was clean and the bed very comfortable, the bathroom needed updating and the TV was just too small. Our evening meal on arrival was not very appealing and hence we chose other locations for subsequent evening meals.
Review 3:A good location for a visit to the area. The staff were friendly. Breakfast was good. Good beer.
Review 4:Covers on pillows need to be more subtle as they where making a noise every time you move so maybe could improve on that but that's it.
Review 5:We went to a wedding to a near by venue so location was perfect. Gentlemen at the bar very helpful
Review 6:The television was minuscule by today's standards, and the Wi-Fi, although free, was frustrating at best. We had to go back downstairs to keep a reliable connection. Take care on the steps, as they are steep and made a bit more difficult by the thick carpeting. The only real downside was an unpleasant encounter with the owner's rather large dog. He was blocking the hallway into the toilet area off the restaurant and was none too happy when required to move. The owner was understandably apologetic.
Review 7:We booked two nights at the Haymaker during a trip down to Somerset. It was easy to find using our sat-nav, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff. Guest rooms are upstairs. Our room was small and basic, but it was clean and reasonably priced with plenty of power points, including a set in front of a mirror. The WiFi signal was perfectly adequate in the pub/restaurant area, where we found a good selection of beverages and a menu which pleased all 4 in our party.
Review 8:Really nice room and good breakfast. Very amiable and helpful landlady, who took it on herself to arrange a taxi for us without additional charges on the bill.
Review 9:Breakfast was greasy, not the typical English breakfast experience you would expect from a B&B, lack of toiletries (soap) which was annoying.
Review 10:Location is really good.
Review 11:I only stayed for 2 days so I can only give a limited viewpoint. For breakfast I only eat cereal and toast, though I noticed others tucking in to a more than adequate spread. My room was clean and suitable for my purposes.Although a road runs outside the property at night I heard little traffic noise. To sum up my stay was pleasant and suited my needs. I would recommend it to others.
Review 12:Lots of little details:- broken curtain tie back, wet damage to bath panel, peeling paintwork on bathroom window sill, no second knife at breakfast for the toast, no side plate at breakfast until requested, light bulb not replaced in dining room in two days, general neglect of gardens i.e. broken picnic table in corner of garden, garden tubs full of weeds. Strange metal structure left in car park in front of our window.
Review 13:Really good cooked breakfast. Owners were very happy to accommodate our grandson coming in for a bath (staying at nearby campsite). Very friendly.
Review 14:Coffee at dinner and tea at breakfast. Coffee at breakfast was good, and you could help yourself. Would be good to see a muesli.
Review 15:We thought it good value for money. They only took over a few weeks ago and are trying, so hopefully it'll only get better. Cooked breakfast was good.
Review 16:No bad experience but overall the pub and accommodation would benefit from a makeover but the owners haven't been there long so maybe it will happen in the future.
Review 17:Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good and we didn't need lunch.
Review 18:The free wi-fi was totally useless could not connect to it. Also network coverage was really poor.
Review 19:Food was good the room was clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 20:All good except the ale in Somerset is pulled the same way as the cider. We loved it.
Review 21:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Haymaking. A beautiful Inn set in a beautiful part of the world.
Review 22:The size of the flat screen TV would be my only criticism, very small! On saying that for one night it didn't detract from the welcome night stop.
Review 23:Just passing through the area and needed a bed for one night. The Haymaker was ideally located for our needs. Very quiet location even though room was on road. Warm welcome, tea and coffee in room, ideal.
Review 24:The place is rather tired looking at present but the owners are aware of this as only been there a very short time, no doubt it will be much better after a refurb, little doubt they are determined to bring up to scratch.
Review 25:The attention of staff was excellent, very willing and wanting to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Review 26:The breakfast was of very poor standard and did not qualify in my book as full English. One rasher of bacon, a tablespoon of baked beans and mushrooms, plus the tiniest half of tomato and one egg is not full English. There were no bread rolls, no fruit juice, no yoghurts, no sausages, no cereal a limited selection of jams/marmalades and toast was put on a plate so that the last pieces were soggy. This is the worst breakfast we have every had. I know the people were leaving, but if they didn't want to cater for us they should have been honest and given us the chance to go somewhere else. The evening meal menu was lacking in variety as the chef had left some time before. I would never go there again.
Review 27:Bed was clean, plenty of hot water and lovely clean towels. Free wifi was a bonus.
Review 28:breakfast could have been better 1 piece of bacon 1egg small spoonful of Beens 1/2 of tomatoes 1piece of toast no sausages no offer of any cereal or juice husband and son still hungry after eating it
Review 29:comfy and clean rooms setting of the haymaker was lovely
Review 30:Although the breakfast was well cooked , it was a shame we wasn't offered fruit or cereal as well. Most other B & B we've been to have a choice of cereal as part of the full English.
Review 31:Nice large bedroom, also the on-suite was very good - the water was hot and plenty of it. The room was also very clean. It also had the added bonus of having a desk.
Review 32:Poor breakfast no evidence of choice, no help yourself cereals etc. Evening menu was poor, bland and unintersting. Do not recommend earring here.
Review 33:Room was comfortable
Review 34:The proprietors have only been there since April and are still updating the Inn. The bedrooms and shower room were very clean but need decorating.
Review 35:The proprietors were very friendly and accommodating, the food was excellent and the atmosphere in both the bar and restaurant was really good. If we lived nearer we would definitely visit regularly.
Review 36:Nothing.
Review 37:everything was perfect nothing was too much for staff beds were comfortable bathrooms were spotless and the setting was right in the countryside. Also the food was tasty and plenty of it.We will return at some point.thank you for everything.
Review 38:Very noisy back bedroom above the extractor fan of the kitchen below which came on at 8a.m. until 9.30 a.m. Not given time frame for breakfast so arrived down at later time to chilly reception although breakfast adequate.
Review 39:Excellent bed, large and comfortable. Adequate breakfast but some basics had to be asked for....enough butter, the marmalade, side plates etc
Review 40:Skittle alley below and noise from air conditioning made sleep difficult on first night. Cooked breakfast quite good, but no cereal or butter.
Review 41:Staff very friendly and helpful, room clean and bright.
Review 42:Do not recommend using satnav as sent us down single track road for a couple of miles which was totally unnecessary.
Review 43:Lovely people, excellent stay. Food excellant. Nice outlook
Review 44:Where do I start and is there enough space. When we arrived the gentleman that greeted us (he didn't bother introducing himself) looked at me dumbly when I said that we had a booking and his response was "what?". Very impressive. The American lady, made no attempt to converse with us or even attempt any friendly conversation. We returned back at 10.20 pm on the Tuesday evening the pub was in darkness and the door locked. We knocked and she opened the door. No greeting, just turned her back on us and asked what time we wanted breakfast in the morning. That morning the kitchen had flooded and we were told not to expect breakfast because they had to wade in water. We were given a refund of £10 for 3 of us to get breakfast elsewhere, can you name somewhere you can get a full English Breakfast for £10 for 3? We give these people a year, then they'll be out of business if they don't at least attempt to interact with their guests.
Review 45:The room was bright and roomy and the bed was comfortable
Review 46:Entry to rooms a bit claustrophobic but as it is an old property we doubt anything can be done about this. Kitchen fan very noisy needs sorting as other guests also mentioned. We were moved to another room without any question and slept soundly.
Review 47:As a 'new' business it has all the elements needed to be a success. Rooms will be upgraded but good as they are, food very good. Atmosphere friendly with the locals obviously taken to the Landlord and wife. Best of Luck to them
Review 48:Double room was slightly on the small side

Review 101:Reg and Michelle were excellent hosts. The food was delicious and good value for money.
Review 102:service for dinner was very poor one & half hour wait, although breakfast was fine. The general standard of cleanliness was not good. The owner coming into our room unannounced was totally out of order & no apology!!
Review 103:food was good, staff were friendly bed was comfy
Review 104:We had a lovely stay at the Haymaker. We were very impressed as the new owners had only taken over the week before they were very welcoming and ensured our stay was a success. I wish them every luck in their new venture.
Review 105:A lovely B & B, friendly atmosphere, all the staff were very willing to please. Large, comfortable, clean rooms, good breakfast and a very friendly dog. We needed to check in an hour early and this was no problem.
Review 106:I thought the menu was a bit bland, but I appreciate it is just oneperson cooking.
Review 107:The owners were very friendly and accommodating. Very peaceful and quietsurrounding area. Good location and not a long drive to many attractionsaround us.
Review 108:Unfortunately the current encumbents have been in place for only a month, ( May 2012) and have rather an uphill task to bring the Inn up to it's alledged 4 star rating.
Review 109:Very friendly, welcoming landlord & landlady. Good food. Nice quiet Somerset, countryside location.
Review 110:The Haymaker has changed owners and I do belive that they have not beeninvolved in the running of a b & b, so I hope they do keep up the goodreputation of the previous owners. The existing staff are very helpfullin making your stay as relaxing as possible. I do wish them all the verybest as we have had many enjoyable breaks over the years. As bookingthere in the future we will wait and see.
Review 111:Tim, the new owner, had just moved in a couple of days ago and we had the honour of being his first guests. He was very caring and accomodating and we wish him all the best!
Review 112:The outside of the pub could do with tidying up. First impressions countand some people would be put off by the gardens and carpark.
Review 113:The staff were very friendly, the location was in the area we wanted tobe. The breakfast was very good.
Review 114:On entry to the Inn looked dirty and unkept. The rooms were clean and the bedding but if you went on first impressions you would turn away.
