Reviews for Oceania L'Univers Tours

Review 1:Everything

Review 2:The hotel was undergoing renovations but we were not informed so when we arrived there were no facilities restaurant or room service Very poor and expensive

Review 3:Fantastic location only a 2 minute walk from the train station and close to walk everywhere else. Nice room and staff. We used it as a base to go to several Chateaux in the area.

Review 4:breakfast expensive at 15 euros each especially as coffee machine made awful coffee.

Review 5:location for town, 10 min walk to old town. lovely reception area.

Review 6:The room was small and very spartan for a 4-star hotel. No pictures, no extra pillows, no tea/coffee-making facilities. Breakfast was expensive - 5 euros more than any other hotel we stayed in.

Review 7:10 minute walk from the train station and tourism office. Our executive room was decorated so modern and large. Perfect for 2 friends sharing the space. Very large shower, with separate toilet room.

Review 8:No fridge in the room no complimentary water in room carpet in the restaurant and the antrance very dirty big black stain Restaurant not recommend it very poor standard

Review 9:Right in the centre of de city

Review 10:The rest of the hotel is in urgent need of updating. Looks run-down and no way 4 star. But staff friendliness and the rooms compensate.

Review 11:The rooms were excellent, modern, up to date. Excellent coffee machine, shower, bed and loads of space for stowing luggage and clothes.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We only stayed one night . We were recommended a choice of restaurants. The hotel had character but the rooms and bathroom facilities were modern and clean. Breakfast good and hotel in good position

Review 14:min lounge with murals needs attention to ceiling location not near restaurants bar closed v early

Review 15:location near motorways & rail secure parking refurbished bedrooms

Review 16:Thought the reception area could do with a refurbishment, but as the rest of the rooms were beautiful, this may be scheduled soon

Review 17:The location was excellent

Review 18:The air con in our room was useless. It is a very old and slow system which did not blow enough cold air (if any) and I found myself having to sleep on the wooden floor to cool down.

Review 19:I liked the hotel building and the rooms were extremely clean and tidy

Review 20:The room was very modern and chic. The bathroom was huge! Actually the room was huge and it was just a standard room. Also the breakfast is worth paying for.

Review 21:I don't know where the picture of this beautiful hall was taken, but it sure as hell was not at this hotel ! Sleeping in an Ikea showroom is probably a more luxury experience than in this hotelroom. It's around 5m², with just a bed (bad quality) and a tv. No minibar, no water, no towels. I mean where are we in Kosovo or something ? This is scandalous, especially for that price ! Go anywhere else and you'll be better off !

Review 22:There is no gym or pool. The communal areas are a little worn.

Review 23:The refurbished rooms are large, comfortable with excellent showers. The location is between the old town and the cathedral and musee de beaux arts. It's a little walk to both but worth it.

Review 24:we missed breakfast. Big mistake

Review 25:Location, friendly staff. combination of age old elegance with superior modern bedrooms. Free Nespresso through hotel

Review 26:€15 for parking is a little over the top but we had little choice. No fridge or mini bar in the room, unusual for a modern hotel of this size. No tea or coffee making facilities either, a bit disappointing, should come as standard.

Review 27:Large hotel with modern room and bathroom. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location to walk around and explore Tours which was a lovely modern and clean town, good shops and historic architecture.

Review 28:The bar didn't open until 6pm.

Review 29:Location in the centre of town but still quiet. Friendly and helpful staff. Old hotel with original features but modern bedroom. Very good food.

Review 30:The hotel is in a heavy traffic zone, so it is a bit troublesome to drive 100m to the public parking. Medium distance from the city's major attractions (cathedral, restaurants). Expensive bottle of water on the bater. Absence of a refrigerator in the bedroom, though they are not very common in French hotels.

Review 31:Very good, clean and newly refurbished rooms in an old traditional location. I have had a good experience overall in two different Escale Oceania hotels, something like a Novotel but with better prices.

Review 32:Mattress needed a topper - too hard.

Review 33:Room was renovated with flair and convenience.Great location for cafes, shops, station. Best hotel shower we've ever had.

Review 34:We had dinner one night and had to send it back. It was the worst food we had during a touring holiday in France. The dining room carpet was badly stained and the decor really needs attention. So we decided not to have breakfast in the hotel at all. There are plenty of cafes within yards which serve food.

Review 35:Great room. There is a sharp contrast between the rooms which have been really well refurbished and the dated public areas. The central location is a real plus point.

Review 36:Pet supplement expensive compared to other hotels. Hotel in need of TLC particularly reception and dinning room carpets.

Review 37:Location excellent. Pet friendly and secure parking expensive but necessary.

Review 38:Stayed years ago but Hotel is now tired and 3 star at best. Common areas need work, room refurbishments have no character -- our room had no safe, fridge, kettle or Nespresso. Staff were great but the facility lets them down.

Review 39:location, good parking, great bar

Review 40:The hotel location is perfectly placed close to the railway station and tourism office. Whilst a reasonable walk it was still feasible to walk to the Old Town and spectacular Cathedral.

Review 41:Certain areas of the hotel need to be fixed, in particular the breakfast room and areas around the lift.

Review 42:The rooms have been refurbished and are very comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent - proximity to the town centre, main shopping district of Tours, the tourism office and the train station.

Review 43:Pity there is no bar fridge in the rooms. However, this is common in France.

Review 44:It was very hot in Tours. The hotel air conditioning was excellent and we loved the funky decor of the room, which was a surprise after the fin de siècle style of the entrance and lobby. A great hotel close to the Gare de Tours.

Review 45:Very tired hotel requires upgrade, but still charges high fee'. Breakfast was awful , dark and dirty dinning room , with very poor selection of food to eat , again at a high cost.

Review 46:The room was a good size .

Review 47:In room safety deposit box would have been appreciated.

Review 48:Hotel location is excellent with easy access to train station & tourist office one block away. Comfort room on 4th floor was very spacious & well designed.

Review 49:No room for a car. We were told that we should have booked a place (wewere not aware of this). The garage was small with obviously not enoughplaces for the demand. We parked our car a long way from the hotel andhad to drag a lot of luggage along the street to the hotel. Not goodenough for the status of hotel!

Review 50:Poor choice of breakfast items. Decided not to eat for the price. We used the terrace which was not cleaned very often. Broken glass on floor.

Review 51:Lovely room and great location

Review 52:Good location, helpful staff, very nice room with an amazing shower! Parking available (for a fee, might be free parking on street). Very comfortable!

Review 53:Tiny room for the price, no iron and ironing board in room, or in-room tea & coffee making.

Review 54:Very clean, great condition overall and good design. Staff very friendly and effective.

Review 55:Nothing - cannot understand why there were poor reviews recently?

Review 56:Central location, large room, big bed. Convenient for city sightseeing, bars, restuarants and shopping.

Review 57:This is a four star hotel, but no safe in bedroom. No facilities for preparing tea/coffee

Review 58:Excellent location right in town centre. Rooms at back very quiet. Superior rooms roomy with large sitting area. The entrance hall with its wall paintings is very impressive

Review 59:Our room faces the courtyard which had a bunch of ACs and other views. The view wasn't very interesting.

Review 60:Executive room was spacious. Private garage was a plus.

Review 61:we were put in a single room with only one towel etc were told we could order coffee for an early start but in the morning were told it was not available (4 star hotel???!!!)

Review 62:location

Review 63:No safe in room though advertised, no bar frig, no bathrobes//slippers, no shower cap, plastic cups, very hot towel rack very close to shower door.

Review 64:Near town centre and station, modern room.

Review 65:Weird smell in the room, no parking, and the main sights for Tours were a 10-15 minute walk away.

Review 66:Reasonable size, good tv, comfortable bed, great shower

Review 67:Lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room, especially as there is no other facility in the hotel for just getting a cup of copy. The bar is tucked away in a corner and is quite dark and gloomy. We ate in the restaurant one evening and found the food disappointing, it certainly live up to the impression given on the menu.

Review 68:Location, excellent for exploring Tours center, comfortable bed and good bathroom facilities.

Review 69:You enter the hotel through a very dated and dilapidated lobby. Thewalls, the ceiling and the carpet are filthy and stained. It's toodark and cluttered to be welcoming. Not what a 4 star hotel shouldcreate as a first impression. The rooms have been renovated, but thedesign is bland and uninspiring. The furniture looks like a cheaperversion of ikea. There is no minibar. There is no facility to makecoffee or tea. There is no safe. The safe offered at reception is tinyand doesn't even accommodate an iPad. The breakfast at 15 Eurosoffers tinned fruit salad and cheap orange juice made from concentrate. The view from this premium room overlooks the backyard. The banister ofthe balcony is rusting away. The view is depressing. I could go on andon, but essentially this hotel is by far not worth the 200 Euro a nightit commands. I can only suggest to the hotel manager to have a lookaround and check out what other 4 star establishments have to offer, itcertainly spoilt out weekend away and I strongly discourage anyone tobook here. Nil point.

Review 70:The location is good.

Review 71:Lobby and restaurant need urgently renovation. Breakfast had variety of chooses but quality was only passable. Some cigarette smell in the toilette.

Review 72:Rooms were recently renovated with good taste.

Review 73:You must book parking in the hotel garage

Review 74:The room had been recently renovated, small room but a comfortable bed and bathroom which made up for the room size.

Review 75:Dated reception area with stained carpet. Wifi worked for 30 minutes then cut off -apparently the system was down in the surrounding area.

Review 76:Fabulous recently refurbished bedroom - great location - we used their garage which at first was hard to find, we did a couple of laps of the area then spotted the entrance on the roundabout 50 metres before the hotel entrance.

Review 77:The hard floor in the bedroom means you can hear your neighbours walking about.

Review 78:Very central location opposite the town hall but very quiet. The recent refurbishment of bedrooms. Comfortable bed. The best hotel shower.

Review 79:Turned on AC and had an asthma attack. Restaurant on premises had no vegetarian option other than "a plate of boiled vegetables"... Make some effort; there are thousands of good vegan/vegetarian recipes out there. Vegans like good, tasty food just like anyone else.

Review 80:Onsite parking was great.

Review 81:The room was big and comfortable. Loved the space provided and the bed was amazing. So comfortable after a long day exploring. Will definitely stay here again!

Review 82:no minibar in room, nor slippers or bathrobe, which I would expect for a hotel of that price range, pricey breakfast

Review 83:Hotel lobby looks nice, staff were efficient, room was pleasant, parking facility was very practical, with direct access to hotel.

Review 84:Lack of English TV with no movie channels available WiFi didn't work in the restaurant The hard floors were annoying when you could hear the people above moving around

Review 85:Friendly helpful staff The room was peaceful spacious and quiet most of the time

Review 86:The room was freezing and after asking for help it just became ok. Obviously a too sophisticated A/C with Bronchitis. Warm air came out of the vent if you would hold your hand close to it but no air flow.

Review 87:The old fashioned Arrangement of the Hotel but modern rooms

Review 88:Nothing other than the desire for tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 89:After a particularly trying journey we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. Our room was a good size and very clean with everything we needed apart from tea/coffee facilities. Parking is an important requirement of ours and we were fortunate to able to park directly outside the hotel on the street where parking is free from 18:00m to 09:00. The hotel does have it's own parking area around the corner.

Review 90:Wifi was quite unstable, no minibar, no coffe making facilities in room, no shoe polish etc.

Review 91:Good location, spacious and well looking room and shower, own garage.

Review 92:The new owners need to complete the job of reviving the Univers. It's still too shabby in parts and needs further investment. The restaurant needs a complete rethink in terms of decor and lighting. The hotel is coming along but needs to be finished! The car park also needs to be reorganised for better manoeuvrability.

Review 93:Bedrooms newly refurbished and well done Food good in restaurant

Review 94:It seemed as if every single guest came down to breakfast at the same time so there was a bit of a wait for a table. Once we got a table the breakfast was great.

Review 95:The staff on reception were really helpful and friendly in both English and French. The bed was super comfy and the room was nicely decorated

Review 96:Everything was perfect!

Review 97:The location, the large room, the confortable bed, the friendly and helpful staff, the private parking with direct access to the hotel, the coffee machine in the room... Even with a baby, we really enjoyed our stay!!

Review 98:There is a very big contrast in this hotel. When we come in it looks like an old hotel that needs urgently to be renovated. The floor very old and completely dirty as well as the roof that need urgently to be restored. However, the rooms are great very clean, confortable, updated and very recently renovated. The room for the breakfast is little for so many people. When we arrived there was no milk, coffee, bread, Orange juice, eggs, etc... the waiters put all again but very slowly.

Review 99:The hotel is very well located. The rooms are great and very confortable.

Review 100:Public areas tired, restaurant expensive.breafast only an okay, scrambled eggs luke warm

Review 101:Bedrooms very comfortable location good close to station. Christmas Market a bonus.

Review 102:The hotel was just good, not fantastic or a place that I must stay again, just a good room in a good location.

Review 103:The hotel is in an excellent location. The room was clean and well presented. The staff were polite and everything was good.

Review 104:It is good to know they are going to give the lobby a facelift because it needs it. Carpet is really run down and dirty. Ceiling is peeling. Really detracts from from what could be old world splendor. Breakfast buffet should serve real scrambled eggs and coffee at the price of 15 Euros.

Review 105:The staff was extremely charming and helpful. We even got upgraded. The beds are the best. The location cannot be better to get to the various parts of the town and tours.

Review 106:No safe or tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 107:Room had a separate seating area. Separate toilet from the bathroom. Good location. Staff all really friendly - gave us a flask of hot water and cups for a brew in the morning when requested.

Review 108:Public areas need attention, filthy carpets, musty smell, entrance from garage very grubby

Review 109:Excellent location in town centre and convenient for motorway. Good secure parking. Very comfortable room, fantastic bathroom.

Review 110:The lobby area looks a bit shabby compared to the rooms. The restaurant where breakfast is served is not that appealing, especially with so many nicely decorated, cozy, lively small restaurants in close proximity (I would not dine there).

Review 111:Big, comfortable room & bathroom, very clean, newly renovated. Friendly and very responsive staff, good breakfast & free Wi-Fi, great location in a central yet quiet, central area right next to the train station (wihin walking distance to the old town).

Review 112:The lack of a mini-bar is unforgivable. No cold drinks in the room, even water. Parking to expansive.

Review 113:The room was big, clean and silent, but there was no mini-bar. Nice and friendly staff; they agreed to change my reservation to leave early and didn´t charge for that. Parking connect directly to hotel.

Review 114:The hotel is located on one of the main street, and parking is a bit diffcult. Luckily, we arrived on a weekend and parking was free on the street, if you can find a space.

Review 115:The room is very clean, morden and comfortable. Larger than most of the hotel rooms we stayed in France. Also, it is centrally located in Tour, just walking distance to the train station. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 116:I could never get the wifi to work. Other than that it was perfect.

Review 117:Loved our room; it was so modern and comfortable with plenty of space and a great bathroom. The breakfast room was very pleasant the food was great there. The staff was unfailingly polite and the location was perfect.

Review 118:Paid parking but I'm glad I reserved before hand as there was no parking available on the streets.

Review 119:The location was excellent! The room was spacious and very clean with a quality bed. An excellent breakfast was included. The staff was curteous and willing to please. I would not hesitate to return.

Review 120:Pillows were too soft, with no alternative pillows in the room. Nopowerpoint in the Bathroom to enable the use of an electric shaver

Review 121:I liked everything about the Hotel and its staff. Perfect English spokenby them all and the decor of the Hotel was something out of a storybook, something like what we have seen of the old Orient Express Trainand Raffels Hotel in Singapore. The WiFi was absolutely first class. Thebed was very confortable and the pillows passable. I do not like softpillows, however, they were passable. The bathroom was wonderful except, there was not a powerpoint for an electric razor, nor was there a plugin point on the hair dryer. The dining room was like the Hotel, quaintand wonderful. The food was simply 10/10 and the service from theEnglish speaking waiter was also 10/10. I would recommend this Hotelto anyone. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there.

Review 122:We stayed in numerous hotels during a three trip in France, and this was definitely memorable for being clean; well managed; having helpful, knowledgable staff; comfortable beds and quiet rooms - and the location is superb. A quick walk to the train station and to the center of the historic city. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Review 123:nothing

Review 124:central location close to the train station with a quick 3 minute walk as well as close to the major business district in Tours. Exceptionally quite and restful stay. Nice rooms with flat screen TV and fast internet service. wonderful staff. Highly recommend.

Review 125:The fantastic shower was so difficult to use with soapy arthritic hands, not even able to open the door to get out. Unusual not to have a small refrigerator in the room. I assume that the hotel is in the middle of a redecorating programme, the bedroom so delightful and the breakfast room a total disgrace. Has the Manager seen the carpet? We felt sorry for the overworked staff who whilst doing their best could not keep up with the needs of guests

Review 126:Our room was clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable and quiet. Ideal position for exploring the older parts of the city.

Review 127:The hotel, and particularly the staff, was excellent! Room, very contemporary design, was perfect for us. Location is just superb. Having on site parking was a REALLY big deal!

Review 128:Breakfast on one day was rather disorganised.

Review 129:Good location in centre of town. Secure parking, handy if you have been buying some of the excellent local wines. Our room was excellent with lots of hanging space for clothes.

Review 130:Bar not open, Friday early evening, breakfast drinks not hot and lack of them. whole place didn't feel welcoming

Review 131:good location, parking not identified very well.

Review 132:Difficult to park nearby and hotel car park expensive and very difficult to negotiate with large car Lack of facilities within hotel - bar was only open on the Friday and Saturday night Restaurant looked basic and unappealing so always ate out. Public areas in need of refurbishment Bathroom in our room was a glass pod in the corner and open along top of glass divider so no sound proofing or privacy - could be a problem if sharing with anybody other than a partner. Toilet in separate tiny room.

Review 133:Central location, lots of restaurants within walking distance Quiet, comfortable room Bedrooms and corridors recently refurbished - very modern and glass pod bathroom a bit quirky. Breakfast pricey but better selection of food and cheaper than restaurants nearby. Staff very friendly and helpful at all times. A good central city hotel but could do with a better restaurant and bar.

Review 134:Bit out of old town....too far to walk into for dinner. Small, uninviting restaurant. Some rooms have been refurbished (and we had oneof these) but it was rather austere...needs "warmth".SOON....the reception area will be refurbished...it is a tad tired atthe moment...I Hope it's "warmer" than the rooms though!

Review 135:Staff...great! Private car parking....although it cost 15 euros...thecar was safe and parked under the hotel!...made leaving with suitcaseseasier too!

Review 136:Reception/communal area shabby, could do with a lick of paint, a good clean and a few repairs ! The inside of the Display cases for luxury goods were covered in dust and dead flies lay on the glass shelving. A male receptionist was perfunctory, not particularly warm or welcoming.

Review 137:Nice big, comfortable room. Good clean bathroom, which includes a bath and not just a shower, plenty of storage, good hair-dryer. Convenient location.

Review 138:Not a complaint but considering how wonderful the entrance, foyer and rooms were, the lifts were shabby, dated and small but this as I say is a very minor observation not a complaint.

Review 139:Foyer is beautiful. Room was large and modern... very well designed and the bathroom was superb.
