Reviews for Hotel à l'Oriel

Review 1:The following issues do not concern the hotel directly, but you should know them before coming to this place: (1) Public transportation is horrible. There are only a few buses to Colmar per day, on Sunday there is no bus at all, you have to take at taxi! (2) Unfortunately, the so-called "pedestrian zone" in Riquewihr is full of cars (not surprisingly, given the miserable public transportation). Of course, the nice hotel is not to blame for any of this. But some tourist organization or local governement should work to get cars out of the village, and to improve public transportation.

Review 2:In the hotel, just about everything was very nice, I certainly recommend the hotel. No dining facility in the hotel, but staff are very helpful to make reservations in the nearby restaurants (and there are many excellent restaurants around).

Review 3:Parking was a long way away so carrying suitcases was a real problem. The lift was too small, bathroom was dark and very smelly, hardly any lighting. The whole place stank and we had to open the windows all night. Receptionist was not even friendly!

Review 4:Not much. Not even the expensive breakfast!

Review 5:Bed was a bit too hard for my liking and the sheets were too warm.

Review 6:Staff was really friendly and breakfast was good. Good restaurants in the neighbourhood and a wine bar across the street.

Review 7:Nothing worth talking about.

Review 8:The staff are very nice, even made a bed in the room for our dog.?very cozy room with good bath and very good bed. Good breakfast and good coffee. What more can you ask for. Thanks to you all ,and you will see us again. S

Review 9:The Internet did not allow FaceTime in the main building for three days, and the fan in the room was taken without asking if we needed it. Our additional room was in an adjacent building with internet but no service.

Review 10:The location was wonderful and if you ask, there is private parking. The main building room had a lift, bath and bed were very comfortable and up to date. The additional room was in an adjacent building and the room had a basic double bed.

Review 11:Parking can be difficult if you arrive early in the afternoon, but this is only for the purpose of unloading your luggage. Ask beforehand about their private lot conveniently located right outside the walls. It's well worth the small parking fee.

Review 12:This was my second stay and this little charmer just keeps getting better. It also has the added value of a lift to the first floor which is great for that excess baggage. And it's perfectly located in one of the most picturesque of the Alsatian villages...best enjoyed after the day trippers have gone.

Review 13:The window would not stay closed; they said they were waiting on a repairman, but it was cold! There was not elevator access to our room. Not a single TV Channel was in English. Despite these small things, I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Review 14:The staff was super friendly and responsive to every need. The decor was as charming as you could imagine. The breakfast was great.

Review 15:Room was very hot; windows opened over a courtyard and in direct line with an open, lit hallway. The only way to get air was to allow passersby to look right into the room.

Review 16:Great location.

Review 17:less luxurious than I expected since it was recommended in Karen Brown's "Charming Inns of France"; it needed some sprucing up. Church bells always chiming but fortunately didn't keep us awake

Review 18:nice central courtyard good location comfortable room nice bathroom nice staff

Review 19:Beautiful location, quiet, centuries old hotel with total charm. wonderful breakfast, secure parking, cool bar, wonderful people at any shift! easy to see the area on public transport, or car.

Review 20:This is a lovely hotel and an excellent base to explore Alsace. Great location in the walking area of the picture-book town, nice room, very good breakfast, good parking.

Review 21:We were surprised when we left early morning that the hotel office was locked and we were unable to leave key with a person.

Review 22:We liked being in the middle of the old town in a charming old building.

Review 23:Small & old elevator, difficult access to top floors. Wifi accessible only in the dining room

Review 24:Excellent location, inside the charming village of Riquewihr.

Review 25:Bed too small in width and length No wifi in the rooms

Review 26:Beautiful view Private parking for 5eur Helfpful staff Lovely atmosphere/interior in the hotel

Review 27:The wifi was not good. This was disclosed at check in but not at booking. Unable to access in room, only in lobby. Very steep stairs to get to loft bedroom.

Review 28:Location was outstanding! The hotel has so much character and the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly!

Review 29:I wouldn't call it a bad experience, but I definitely would have liked to have wifi in our room instead of having to come down to the lobby.

Review 30:Staff was helpful, room was clean and comfortable, and location was perfect.

Review 31:The hotel parking is about 100 yds away which means that luggage has to be carried through cobbled lanes. OK for older people but not those with mobility problems.

Review 32:Delightful small mediaeval hotel built round a courtyard and complete with storks nest on the chimney. Friendly service and excellent breakfast. Many very good restaurants within a few hundred yards of the hotel and within this traffic free little town centre. Both Riquewihr and nearby Ribeauville are interesting wine towns with many opportunities to sample Alsatian wines. The surrounding Vosges mountains are wonderful for touring or walking.

Review 33:The wifi didn't work in our room - they said because the walls are thick. That's probably true, but it would be nice if they could figure out a way to make it more easily accessible.

Review 34:The location is excellent - just off the Main Street, but calm. March isn't the high season, of course, but I'll bet it's calm during the high season, too. Restaurants, shops, wine tastings, gingerbread store, all nearby. Breakfast was lovely - lots of choices, well-prepared and nicely served.

Review 35:Our wifi wouldn't connect at all. That being said, we didn't try too hard after a few failed attempts. We were only staying one night. I'm sure had we gone downstairs and asked for assistance, they would have provided support.

Review 36:Very helpful staff, perfect location. The room was great. There were 4 ladies in the room and we all packed lightly to allow more room for our wine and treasures and we had no problem squeezing it all in. Breakfast was offered at €12, but we thought that was a tad spendy. However, your options are VERY limited. We kinda wish we had just eaten on site. There's also an elevator to the second floor :) If you're carrying a very heavy bag or stairs are very difficult, the 4 person room we stayed in, is up an additional flight of stairs, plus there's stairs to the bed in the loft. It was no problem for us, just FYI.

Review 37:We are a relatively tall family - our room was about 7 foot long - when we stretched out on the bed our feet were touching the opposite wall! Tiny rooms and tiny beds!

Review 38:Situated in the middle of this beautiful town with a great looking reception area.

Review 39:Internet did not work in the rooms so had to go into reception to use internet. Lift was temperamental. Small shower in a big bathroom

Review 40:Within the walls of the medieval town. Our room looked out onto a courtyard.

Review 41:Given the rustic nature of the hotel/ town the high pressure laminated floors did not work for us. With this said, our thoughts on the hotel may be somewhat jaundice given that we did not enjoy the town of Riquewihr: it was town built for a two hour visit by tour groups.

Review 42:The location of the hotel could not have been better. It was near the center of the town.

Review 43:The bathtub in our room was outfitted with a shower curtain and only a hand-held shower wand located at knee level. Showering is possible, but difficult.

Review 44:This was our third stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was spacious with a good-sized flat screen TV. The WiFi connection was strong, fast, and free. The hotel is very well located just inside the city wall, close to parking outside the wall and close to everything inside. If you are looking for "quaint", you can't do better than this hotel.

Review 45:The beds were old and short. If you are bigger than 5'9" you could be in trouble. Also, the free internet was fine if you sat downstairs on a little sofa. Otherwise it doesn't cover the hotel. And anything beyond the second floor, forget it.

Review 46:The location as excellent, and the staff friendly.

Review 47:No complaints!

Review 48:Reception and breakfast areas are charming! Rooms were larger than expected, bathrooms very well appointed. Staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant. We can't say enough good things! For us, it was a lovely experience - the whole package - the hotel, Riquewihr, the countryside.

Review 49:Nothing then praise for the hotel.

Review 50:Lovely decorated rooms with excellent attention to details. Very romantic indeed. Very friendly service. Highly recommended hotel but Riquewihr itself was "too" touristic to our taste. The charming town had some good restaurants but you need to consult the Michelin guide first.

Review 51:no complaints at all

Review 52:The beautiful setting and ambience, the feel of the décor and architecture, and the setting on a gorgeous street in a fabulously pretty town. Our room (18) looked down into a pretty vine-covered courtyard.

Review 53:Loft where one of our beds was located was cute but very difficult for adults or older children to get up to.

Review 54:Beautiful hotel with loads of ambience. Very friendly staff. Great location. Loved their pets!

Review 55:The third floor, which accommodates parties of 4, is accessed by a smallspiral staircase. Difficult for small children or luggage.

Review 56:The hotel met my expectations both in price and value. Having justarrived from a 5 star hotel in Paris, this location gave my family amore relaxed, European atmosphere.

Review 57:The breakfast was good but much to expensive at 12.90 Euro per person.

Review 58:The hotel was in a beautiful location. Down a small side street about 25 feet from the main shopping/restaurant street. They also provide a private and fenced parking lot located about a block from the hotel for 5 Euro a night. The staff was friendly and helpful and all but one spoke English. The room we had was a bit small but large enough to accommodate us and had a small fridge. Same for the bathroom but it was clean and modern.

Review 59:Excellent small hotel, intimate place magical and beautiful town of Riquewihr. Decorated and clean. Location in the center of the Alsace Wine Road trips are great without a long drive every day. Those who like to stay in homes full atmosphere of ancient wine route. The hotel's location just a short distance from parking areas is not obvious ancient towns. Staff was courteous service and helped us also unconventional requests. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Nice bar in the hotel basement is worth a visit.

Review 60:Breakfast was slightly expensive, but was well within the standards we have seen at other hotels on the European continent.

Review 61:The staff was friendly; most spoke English, which is helpful if you are uncomfortable with the French language. The location was ideal to explore Riquewihr and the Alsace Region of France. Great Private Parking; considering that the hotel was in a pedestrian zone we only had to walk approximately 1 block from the car. Very quaint and well preserved historic hotel. We would stay there again!

Review 62:Nothing

Review 63:Great hotel with very helpful , cheerful, professional staff. The setting is beautiful in beautiful mediaeval walled town in the Alsace. The small extra cost for parking is well worth it as it guarentees a parking place if you want to explore the area in the car. It is best to park outside the walls near hotel de Ville on arrival and check in on foot as the hotel is in the second alley on the right by the museum. Riquewihr is busy in the daytime but is lovely in the evening for dining. A great stay.

Review 64:staff- cleanliness-locatıon

Review 65:GOOD LOCATION, CLEAN ROOM

Review 66:The personnel were friendly and helpful. The bathroom facilites were modern and clean. The location is ideal. It is all very romantic.

Review 67:internet only worked for me in the lobby.

Review 68:Quiet, clean room overlooking a courtyard.

Review 69:family run, cosy, olde worlde, just perfect!

Review 70:Nil!

Review 71:Very nice Hotel! Small but confortable.

Review 72:narrow, steep stairs, small bathroom.

Review 73:romantic, picturesque.

Review 74:Delightful decor and helpful staff.

Review 75:Parking was a big problem

Review 76:Good location , friendly staff , good breakfast

Review 77:central location - only 25 metres from the main street. Car parking approx. 100 metres ( book in advance). Good value for €80 overnight stay

Review 78:The staff, the location and the cleanliness

Review 79:Very hot - admittedly the weather was very hot, but it was a problem.

Review 80:Position of hotel and friendliness of staff.

Review 81:Wifi was sketchy.

Review 82:Right in the middle of the beautiful town.

Review 83:friendly service

Review 84:Poor wifi.

Review 85:Centrally located

Review 86:Comfortable large room with modern shower. Well located for wandering around Riquewihr. Private parking a great bonus. Wifi worked most of the time.

Review 87:WIFI did not work - too slow

Review 88:Excellent Breakfast

Review 89:Last time the rate included breakfast but this time it did not.

Review 90:We love staying the the old village. They have an elevator.

Review 91:Location and nice view from small inner balcony.

Review 92:Lobby and room was well appointed. Staff was friendly and welcomeing

Review 93:Wifi was not working

Review 94:Warm and friendly staffsp

Review 95:Superb staff

Review 96:Great friendly well located hotel.

Review 97:All staff extremely welcoming with always a friendly smile. Hotel location excellent. Quiet comfortable room. Would lve to stay again.

Review 98:Good parking arrangement. 2 minutes from centre ville

Review 99:Great location in Riquewhir old town with reserved parking a short walk away. Hotel was very charming.

Review 100:Location Breakfast Bathroom Parking

Review 101:Nice and friendly Hotel. Very good breakfast and nice room.

Review 102:Very good location, nice room, French style. Staff was very friendly. 非常好的地點,漂亮的房間,有法國風格。服務也非常親切。

Review 103:No air conditioning- it was hot June Rooms are small

Review 104:Historical atmosphere Proximity of vinyards

Review 105:Wifi was almost non-existent although they advertise it is available in all rooms. The passwords didn't work and we never could get service. Not a big deal but people should know.

Review 106:Location was wonderful and the staff was very helpful. Having an elevator was a real asset staying on the 3rd floor. We loved being in this small village. Great restaurants nearby! We will definitely stay there next year!

Review 107:The furniture in the rooms was rather old. The breakfast did not offer too much, was not worth 12,50 euro.

Review 108:Cute house in a good location. Also the possibility to park nearby was good.

Review 109:nothing.

Review 110:The location is excellent. Parking is very convenient. Breakfast is simple but ample. Very peaceful in the evenings. A good nights rest is assured.

Review 111:bathroom needs to be remodeled, but the room is actually very nicely done, we enjoyed it.

Review 112:Very nice breakfast area and spread. Thank you for the 3 minute eggs! Thank you for the dog bed and water bowl!

Review 113:A little too pricey for what is offered, and the breakfast, at 13 Euros, could have much more variety than what was offered.

Review 114:The location, quaintness of the premises, and the two adjoiningrestaurants which were superb!

Review 115:Not a thing

Review 116:A very nice hotel in an amazingly picturesque town. We loved the Alsace area and hope to return. We chose this over staying in Colmar and were happy that we did.

Review 117:Paid extra for breakfast, however, not too expensive just not normal inmost European hotels.

Review 118:Great hotel in the middle of one of the most beautiful parts of France.Stayed there 10 years ago and has remained great. Nice room, greatbathroom (by European standards-didn't flood the bathroom whentaking a shower), parking at a reasonable price, location, friendlystaff (easy to communicate in French, German or English). Will go backthere again.

Review 119:The hotel is in a traditional timber house so staircase/walkways are small.

Review 120:The location. Riquewihr is a small town so proximity to the heart of town is enjoyed by other hotel locations. But the biggest pleasant surprise is that the vineyards are just 3 mins walk from the hotel. We went in Autumn and the vineyards wereyellowing, so it was good for morning and evening walks.

Review 121:Breakfast which costs extra was very simple. Our room was on 2nd or 3rd floor and they only had the elevator from 0 to 1st floor. And the stairs are dangerous, impossible to walk with luggage. You have many other similar hotels in this town. I regret that I chose this.

Review 122:An old yellow house in the fairytale town. We stayed here 2 nights and went to Strasbourg during our stay. Strasbourg is not close from here as I thought. 1-hour drive and the road condition wasn't good. The hotel gives you private parking spot which is located outside the town wall, but 2-minute walk from the hotel.

Review 123:Picturesque hotel in a stunningly pretty village; short walk to everything. Shops stayed open later so actually could do some shopping. Local fare in restaurant was delicious. Lift available. Car parking very convenient to hotel.

Review 124:We had a small room though that didn't bother us too much as we only booked to stay one night.

Review 125:The hotel is situated close to all the towns amenities. The decor is lovely throughout, especially the breakfast room. Parking was very close by. Our room was very well equipped.

Review 126:Shower was too small with a curtain that annoyed..... but this paled into insignificance given the rest of the place!

Review 127:Location is second to none. Everybody wanted to be where we stayed,,,,, beautiful place to be based,,,,, excellent places to eat. Parking was a dream. basically a must to go to.
