Reviews for Unthank Farmhouse

Review 1:Not a complaint just helpful tip...when using Google directions it takes you near but then use the signs.

Review 2:Everything!!!! The lady owner Ethel is lovely, the rooms very homely, log fire and living room cosy. Gorgeous breakfast in lovely conservatory

Review 3:Arriving and leaving in midwinter darkness meant we missed what I'm sure is a lovely view from the breakfast room. The badly potholed track to the house seemed to put the car's suspension at some risk.

Review 4:A warm and friendly welcome from Mrs Broadbent made the beautifully refurbished, traditional style farmhouse annex seem like a real home from home. Good breakfast set us up well for a day's travelling.

Review 5:Google had difficulty finding the property - (we rely on it too much!).

Review 6:Superbly relaxing and enjoyable living area - an open fire and space to sit around.

Review 7:Had a little difficulty finding Unthank as Satnav/post code took us to anther farmhouse about a mile away.

Review 8:Warm & Friendly welcome, excellent facilities and service.

Review 9:Water unit in single room was at times disturbing during the night.

Review 10:Wonderful views, rural but close to coastal route and Berwick. Lovely owner who was helpful in every way.

Review 11:There's nothing bad apart from the location unless you drive is a bit of a pain but that was my fault not realising the distant however really great otherwise

Review 12:Everything was great, really nice lady, lovely fry up in the morning

Review 13:Maybe a double bed but no room for manoever getting to bed. Lack of space main complaint. Bathroom could do with spring clean.

Review 14:Convenient location for neighbouring countryside.

Review 15:There was nothing not to like!

Review 16:Mrs Broadbent looks after you so well during your stay. She has lots of local knowledge and her breakfast is like no other. Lovely house with ducks, hens and sheep. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 17:Our room door did not lock but when we told her she said she would sort it out. I wasn't told what the full English involved and there was no hash brown.

Review 18:I loved the way I was welcomed and made to feel at home. The room was very big and clean. There was an outdoor space to use too but unfortunately British weather got in the way of us enjoying that when we arrived.

Review 19:Nothing to dislike about this Farmhouse.

Review 20:Very nice quiet Farmhouse with pleasant views of open countryside. Soft comfy bed and fine breakfast plus extras. Might sound a bit out of the way but actually on outskirts of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and Farmhouse is fairly easy to find if following the signs for Etal and Ford on main road.

Review 21:Our room had a skylight which made the room rather light to sleep in especially with it being mid summer. A simple blind over this would resolve.

Review 22:Comfortable room. Small but had everything we needed and size did not matter as we had the use of a very pleasant lounge and conservatory next to the room. Quiet location. Very warm welcome from Ethel the owner who provided much needed refreshments on arrival.

Review 23:The greeting in the afternoon after a days sight seeing with a fresh pot of tea and home made cake of some sort was an unexpected extra special charm, we sat in front of the the log fire and usually nod off to sleep before heading of out for th evening.

Review 24:Ethel was extremely welcoming, an open fire greated us along with Tea/Coffee and freash home-made cake. Breakfast was a feast, and set us up well for the long joureny home. No hesitation in recommending.

Review 25:the room was freezing so didnt sleep great and also have a sky light in room with no curtain on so any sleep you do get you are woken up very early by light shining through :(

Review 26:lovely welcome , gorge tea and cake , very homely :)

Review 27:Nothing. Wish I could have stayed longer

Review 28:Everything really. Lovely house, host and location. Made to feel very welcome and at home even though I was only there for one night. Great breakfast set me up for the day.

Review 29:having to go back to the city life

Review 30:A true get away from it all place, must be even better in the summer months, but the glowing open fire in the winter to welcome you back to in the evening was just as good. Lovely front room to relax in as you felt the warm glow and enjoy the tea and home made cakes.

Review 31:Very cozy, excellent breakfast and location. We arrived after hours and they were very accommodating. The restaurant down the road was also very good.

Review 32:Minor issues, but the access to power sockets was a little awkward. There is no wifi or TV in the rooms and the tea making facilities are in a communal area.

Review 33:Breakfast was top notch, and the welcome was superb. The B&B is in a lovely setting with expansive views. The bedroom was comfortable and the place was immaculately kept throughout. Very good value - a good find!

Review 34:Nothing

Review 35:a very warm welcome made you feel at home very clean and tidy pointed us to a couple of local attractions no rush the next morning and breakfast set us up for the day 10/10

Review 36:Creaky floorboards mean disturbing others if you use the bathroom in the night

Review 37:Location Warm welcome Lovely breakfast Cleanliness Facilities Sensible price The fact that there is a single room

Review 38:No real complaints.

Review 39:Friendly welcome with coffee and cake. Excellent breakfast at one table in conservatory meant chance to meet and chat with other guests. General atmosphere always warm and informal. Chance to have a bath rather than just a shower. View across fields included grazing deer in late afternoon. In full countryside, but near enough road to Berwick to be accessible for those reliant on public transport. At £35 per night including breakfast this is terrific value for money.

Review 40:There was nothing at all I didn't like. But if you want a tv with sky and wifi internet and a pub attached this won't be for you, try the premier inn. If you want a nice friendly place to use as a base for the borders, then you won't find better.

Review 41:I arrived in the afternoon and was greeted by Ethel, shown my room and offered tea or coffee which came with a pot of tea and a couple of bits of cake. Ethel very friendly and helpful, the place was spotless throughout and everywhere smelt lovely and fresh. There is no tv in room which to me was a plus as I met and chatted with 4 other guests and thouroughly enjoyed their company. Room was nice and clean with lovely bedding and a super view of miles and miles over open countryside. Breakfast was well covered with juices and cereals, toast, bread ,jams and marmalade etc then a lovely plate of full English breakfast. As much tea and coffee as you wished to wash it down. For £35 per night including breakfast and tea/coffee whenever you want it, got to be great value for money. I had been to Berwick for a motorcycle light parade and had a wonderful weekend, Berwick is well worth a visit and the unthank makes a great base to stay. I will be back with the wife next time.

Review 42:We stayed downstairs and had a sky light above the bed, this would have been ok however there is no way of covering it, therefore when the sun gets up, so do you! Our room was also in a connecting room to the communal area which means there are other guests sat outside your bedroom door watching TV. We asked for another room which was declined as they were all full so we decided not to stay for the second night. The landlady became very defensive refused to adjust the bill and demanded money before we were allowed to leave. The dispute, despite asking several times to go somewhere private was had infront of the other guests at the breakfast table. Very embarrassing for all. Booking.com have since agreed to refund us.

Review 43:The bedroom is cramped, large furniture, & the shower requires attention, either cold or too hot (Could be user error!)

Review 44:Lovely welcome,Fine Breakfast, after a city break the rural aspect was welcome

Review 45:When we arrived,we were greeted with tea and cakes, and a big smile, even though mrs broadbent wasnt aware at the time we had booked at the last minute, we were well looked after, and the veiws were lovely.

Review 46:Very friendly welcome with tea and cake on arrival! I felt a bit apprehensive as I was travelling alone, but I had no need to be. The host Ethel was very attentive and the other guests friendly. The farmhouse is in a wonderful part of the world, very peaceful yet close to Berwick too. And breakfast was brilliant!

Review 47:I did not like the young couple who arrived on Friday 9th August, Their attitiude towards Mrs Broadbent on Saturday 10th August was threatening. They had booked for two nights at an agreed prrice of £35.00 per person per night with Booking.com and tried to leave on Saturday morning stating that they would not take breakfast and as they had received nothing from Mrs Broadbent they had nothing to pay. Mrs Broadbent with great difficulty persuaded them to pay £50.00 for one night's accommodation whereas I felt that she should have demanded the full payment of £140.00 that they were contracturally required to pay. After they had left, Mrs Broadbent found that red wine had been spilt on the bedsheets such was their irresponsible behaviour. I trust that any report received from this couple which is worded in a derogatory manner will be deleted.

Review 48:The B and B is situated just inland from the Northumberland Coast with excellent views over the coutryside. Mrs Broadbent is an excellent host, friendly and kind. She always gives you a very good breakfast and there is always the possibility to make tea or coffee whenever you wish. The residents' lounge is very comfortable.

Review 49:We travelled from London and had a very bad journey. As a result we didn't arrive until 10.30pm. We had spoken to Ethel on the phone and she told us not to worry about the time. We had a fantastic welcome with a tray of tea and cake. Fantastic, thank you Ethel.

Review 50:Bad gps-location in website, 2km away from the main road, please update it 55.728826,-2.023759 It takes a while (1hr) walking from Berwick, which is fine, but the local road is not really friendly to walkers, be careful. My individual room lacked accessible plugs and the floor just outside was a bit noisy.

Review 51:Location: incredibly peaceful and enchanting views. Extremely friendly and helpful family Superb breakfast with local produce. I'll never forget their ruibarb&red fruit malmalade! I wish I could have brought some at home.

Review 52:Nothing.

Review 53:Splendid bed and breakfastI ARRIVED AND WAS WELCOMED WITH HOMEMADE CAKE AND TEA SERVED WITH A DESIGNER’S TEA SET. THE ENVIRONMENT LOOKS BETTER THAN HOW IT LOOKED ON THE WEBSITE. INTERNAL DOORS AND STAIRS ARE OAK. THE WHOLE BED AND BREAKFAST WAS VERY CLEAN, SMELLS FRESH AND IS WARM. THERE WERE CLEAN COTTON BEDSHEETS AND COVERS. ETHEL (THE LANDLADY/PROPRITRESS) WELCOMED ME WITH A LOVELY SMILE EVERY EVENING AND WAS VERY HELPFUL IN SHOWING ME LEAFLETS THAT GUIDED ME TO DIFFERENT INTERESTING PLACES I WANTED TO VISIT. SHE DESCRIBED HOW I COULD GET TO PLACES. OVERALL SHE IS A VERY FRIENDLY LADY AND EXTREMELY CARING. USUALLY I DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST IN THE MORNINGS, HOWEVER SHE PACKED MY BREAKFAST EVERY MONING AS I HAD TO LEAVE EARLY FOR THE HOLY ISLAND RETREAT. SHE WELCOMED ME WITH YET AGAIN HOME MADE CAKES, SCONES ETC AND TEA EVERY EVENING. I HAVE BEEN TO SOME OTHER BED AND BREAKFASTS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A CARING AND WELCOMING PROPRIETRESS IN SUCH AN AFFORDABLE BED AND BREAKFAST. THANK YOU MRS. ETHEL BROADBENT, I SHALL BE A REGULAR RETURNER TO THE UNTHANK FARMHOUSE. MARY

Review 102:Bedroom & toilet rather tight.

Review 103:Good welcome,nice location

Review 104:Your confirmation note showed the wrong location based on its post code.Fortunately I had the os map to hand!

Review 105:Peace & quiet, welcome & tea.

Review 106:The double room is a bit of a squeeze, but it's a small sacrifice for all the nice things about the stay.

Review 107:The owner, Ethyl, is the loveliest, most attentive lady. She greeted us with coffee, tea and home-made cake, which was an excellent start, and her breakfasts are superb! As it turned chilly, the fire was always going adding a nice atmosphere, and the outlook from the B&B is beautiful.

Review 108:Nothing much. Ideally not a shared bathroom and wi-fi, but the latter may not be easy in the location of the farmhouse

Review 109:Very friendly, tea and cakes when I returned in the early evening, very good breakfast

Review 110:The ONLY SLIGHT disappointment was that our double ensuite room only had a shower cubicle and not a bath. It would have been good to be able to have soaked my ageing joints after lots of walking. But this is only a very minor criticism: don't let it put you off.

Review 111:Very friendly and welcoming owner. She greeted us very warmly and with a hot drink and a piece of cake. We had access to unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits and use of a comfortable lounge with digital television. She also took the time to talk to us about the local area and tourist attractions and gave us as much information as she was able to.

Review 112:Leaving.

Review 113:Wonderful, friendly atmosphere and welcome. Beautiful, peaceful country location. Excellent host. After a long day seeing the countryside, it was wonderful to come home to your own loungeroom with the fire already going and a cup of tea ready.

Review 114:This was the perfect stop for us halfway through the Coast and Castles Cycle ride. Very homely and Ethel went out of her way to make us comfortable with cake and coffee on arrival and a warm fire. The accommodation is spacious with a separate guest lounge with TV, drinks and local info. Excellent storage for the bikes and a huge breakfast to set us up for our next days cycling. We accidently left a key there which Ethel arranged to be hand delivered back to us two days later. Highly recommended!!!

Review 115:The friendliness of the hostess and the wonderful views

Review 116:Difficult tpo find Dated Nylon sheets

Review 117:Quiet
