Reviews for Les Grandes Rousses

Review 1:The service in the bar during the evening was terrible, waiting an hour for our pre dinner drink one evening and finally giving up. We weren't told about the €100 per person charge for the New Years Eve dinner - which took four hours to serve. If attempting such a gala dinner they need to ensure adequate staff numbers. We are happy to pay premium prices for premium service but sadly this wasn't the case, especially the bar which constantly had a backlog and inexperienced staff.

Review 2:The location and general feel of the hotel was good, with very nice food.

Review 3:Excellent food in the restaurant , the new years eve evening meal was exceptional . The room we had , had a fabulous view and the staff are very friendly

Review 4:Ski room had a code, but found door open several times during the day, so actually not a very safe place for equipment; might be better to have an automatic closing door...

Review 5:Helpful & kind staff, very accommodating; ski room available for equipment; location and especially view from room was fabulous

Review 6:An expensive hotel for what it offers. The downside of the location is noise from late-night jolliness outside the nearby bars. Renovations of rooms underway during the day and evening created noise and mess on bedroom levels: it seemed an odd time of the year (the first week of ski season) to be doing them. Rooms lack basic instructions on equipment, including useful electric window blinds, telephone and tea-making machine. Breakfast service erratic.

Review 7:Location excellent for access to ski slopes and the main part of the village. Pleasant staff. Good restaurant. Nice balconies and views.

Review 8:No tea or coffee making facilities in the room was a real problem - meant you had to pay an extortionate amount for a drink at their bar. Small rooms. Breakfast options was good, but seemed they were very under-staffed as it took a while for some food to be re-stocked, and the receptionist and the cook was out clearing tables.

Review 9:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff with excellent English. I was there for a triathlon and they opened up breakfast an hour early to accommodate it. Nice large balcony.

Review 10:The room didn't have air conditioning an as it was July the weather was very hot. This led to a few uncomfortable nights. The staff were happy to move us to a non- South facing room though as this was a little cooler.

Review 11:Great location, close to restaurants and bars. The hotel was great to stay in, the rooms were a decent size with a big balcony. Staff were really friendly and the pool and Jacuzzi were excellent.

Review 12:Dinner at restaurants in the town seemed to be better quality and value

Review 13:Location is perfect; staff very friendly; breakfasts were excellent; rooms were ideal.

Review 14:Capacity Wifi should be enhaunced as in most hotels this days.

Review 15:Splendid location, excellent food in restaurant ( try the entrecote !), friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. Sport minded hotel.

Review 16:Stayed in delux family room, the third bed was extremely uncomfortable one pillow only and did not sleep well, also a fridge in room would have been nice

Review 17:Good helpful friendly staff free wifi

Review 18:The room was a bit warm and the AC not too effective, but I run hot. My wife didn't have a problem with the temp. Pretty minor inconvenience.

Review 19:incredibly helpful staff. Jonathan could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The views were unmatched.

Review 20:Weather was very hot and our room was up in the eaves, consequently it was very hot at night. We should have asked for a fan I suppose.

Review 21:Very convenient for La Marmotte. Great views. Good breakfast (from 02:30hrs on the morning of the race!). Nice pool. Secure bike storage on ground floor, but no problems with keeping them in our room too.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:We loved it all. Jonathan at the front desk could not have been anymore helpful. There was s secure bike lockup, the room was neat and tidy with an upstairs duplex for the kids with basin and TV. The views from our balcony were to die for. Breakfast was brilliant with lots of choice even for the fussy eaters. There was parking outside and the pool and spa were welcome after a long day on the bike. We loved it!

Review 24:Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool and hot tub were lovely after a long days cycle ride. Excellent location could not ask for more.

Review 25:This place is fantastic. Probably the best location in the whole town - ski in ski out from various points around the hotel (it even has its own button lift) - 2 minutes walk to Main Street with swimming pool, ice rink, restaurants, etc. discount ski hire right next door. Could not be more convenient. Bar area has a particularly great feel - buzzy with stunning views. We had a two bed apartment which slept 5 in two lovely rooms so incredible value for money. Very helpful and friendly staff throughout. Nice indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and treatment rooms on site - actually quite a big spa facility all-in. Big ski boot room with plenty of boot heaters. We went B&B so didn't go to restaurant but it was always full of happy looking people so suspect the food was good in there. Very relaxed casual atmosphere. Could not recommend this hotel enough. 11/10 for value.

Review 26:Breakfast finishes at 10 but at 9.15 it was difficult to find a cleared table. It is completely self service. On separate occasions we had to ask (the very pleasant but rather elusive) staff for plates, knives & spoons. Cooked options and bread ran out. Difficult to find an unchipped cup. Expected better food and service for 15 EUR each. As a non skier it is probably unfair to judge but at 180 EUR per room per night we did not consider this hotel good value for money.

Review 27:Excellent location. Very good refurbished bathroom. Fabulous view from balcony.

Review 28:Our request for an upgrade from the booked club room to a superior was apparently not received by the hotel and no upgrade was available although our friends who booked in immediately ahead of us were upgraded from standard to superior ! In fact our club room was very good. Of course our friends paid less for their superior room !

Review 29:the hotel's location is good and it is well run. Our room was good although without balcony and with a limited view. Breakfast was very good.

Review 30:Manager was rude, threatening police because we were all male and from England if we stepped out of line. Bit harsh as some of our party were over 60!

Review 31:Location and comfort

Review 32:We hace to wait till 3 oclock for checking and when we leave room lastday while we where having breakfast the cleaning woman was insidecleaning 10:00 am Everyday the room wasnt clean like jacuzzis water Veryexpensive for the attention

Review 33:Ubicacion

Review 34:1. Cramped hotel lift - very old and not reliable. No floor level indicator and no evidence of maintenance checks. Co-used by Clients and Cleaning Staff led to long waits for all during peak times. 2. No assistance with luggage. 3. Bedroom decoration tatty. 4. Public Rooms shabby. 5. Expensive Drinks and Menu. Wine List not accurate. 6. Sauna too small, seating too high, and minus sand-timer and temperature gauge. 7. Pool and Jacuzzi filtration Poor - flockulant needed to clarify water. 8. Many TV channels not received.

Review 35:1. Excellent location. Very easy walk to village (restaurants, shops, ski lifts and free shuttle buses). 2. Pool & Jacuzzi V.Good but water dirty throughout the week. Excellent quality Fitness Equipment but Room needs ventilation and cooling. 3. Very nice lounge with leather armchairs and fireplace. 4. Daily Cleaners very efficient and friendly. Waiters very pleasant and helpful, but need better training. 5. Good choice of Breakfast items but hot food badly presented and usually cold. Trays need to be provided.

Review 36:Spa always very busy so not really useable, gym small and without weights machines. Toilet basin was cracked so flooded.

Review 37:Location, room decent size, easy.

Review 38:To be honest one of the best ski properties I've stayed in, i'd be back in a flash. If there was a minus the WiFi was a bit annoying requiring a new sign in code every day..... Hardly a big deal.

Review 39:Friendly and attentive staff. Loved the jacuzzi after a hard days skiing. Allowed me to check in at 8am (as the room was ready) which was a great bonus. Breakfast was good value with a lot of choice.

Review 40:Recommendation a mini frig in room would be good.

Review 41:Friendly accommodating staff, decor was most appropriate for a mountain top hotel ,spar and pool great, coffee and tea in room was much appreciated, breakfast very good selection and the the die for.

Review 42:No fridge or kettle in the room. Barely enough room to move around the bed. Almost zero cupboard space. Breakfast was boring by the second day.

Review 43:Nice resort. helpful staff..... within French law apparently. Really very little to like.

Review 44:The fitness room was too warm to consider using the equipment

Review 45:Excellent venue, just a pity that restaurant and bar was closed due to it being the summer season. We would love to come back in winter and see the place in full swing.

Review 46:Nothing, it's fab.

Review 47:Staff, food, management, cleanliness, warmth, location, comfort.

Review 48:Excellent position, facilities and very helpful staff.

Review 49:Quaint and beautifully decorated.

Review 50:Modern hotel with a rustic feel in a great location.

Review 51:Nice Cheese. Pretty much what one would expect in the location. Room was small but comfortable, missing a chair for the balcony.

Review 52:Well situated, very welcoming staff. Rooms calm and confortable. Spotless pool and jacuzzi.

Review 53:Very pet friendly. Recently decorated. Great views!!!

Review 74:Shower was not easy to adjust Bed a bit hard

Review 75:The food and location

Review 78:lovely pool and jacuzzi and friendly helpful staff - good breakfast too! great location and lovely view

Review 79:Friendly hotel with helpful staff. Clean with excellent food. Had a lovely new year stay

Review 80:A little pricey - but this is common in ski hotels beside ski lifts.

Review 81:Location and friendly helpful staff

Review 82:Great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable. A great stay for a weeks skiing. Thank you

Review 83:Location wonderful, hotel quiet which was just what we wanted. Bed was comfy, great!

Review 84:Constantly having to reconnect to the WiFi with a new username and passcode.

Review 85:Perfectly located with outstanding views from the balcony.

Review 86:Rooms Views TV in room Bath in room

Review 87:Being able to store the bikes on the veranda

Review 88:Hotel could do with some updating. Parts of the hotel had been updated but other parts ie carpet, room doors, wardrobes hadn't.

Review 89:Good position, nice view. Great if you were skiing as right next to the lift.

Review 90:The music at breakfast was too loud, even for teenage boys' the coffee maker in the room didn't have instructions.

Review 91:Ambience. Aranault made us very welcome. Like the décor the pool and mini gym breakfasts were good quality duplex room

Review 92:Breakfast was quite pricey for the selection available.

Review 93:Loved everything about this hotel, friendly helpful staff, easy access to/from slopes, spacious room/bathroom will added luxury of slippers & robes to wear to the spa. Spa itself had everything you might need including fresh towels and it didn't appear to ever close which was great if you were late back after apres-ing. Was very impressed by all the thoughtful touches and the food in the restaurant (a la carte menu) was delicious. Would love to go back!

Review 94:more ski orientated lifts and pistes, food and drink quite pricey

Review 95:friendly staff, great location, south facing mountain with lots of sun for a unique snowboarding experience

Review 96:Superb location in Alpe d'Huez, very convenient for the slopes (about 10 metres from the ski room door to the ski lift, it doesn't get much better than that!) Pleasant ambience in the rooms and public areas. Superb views. Charming, helpful staff.

Review 97:Found it difficult and frustrating sometimes to find a receptionist! A bell would help! The bedrooms need a face lift expecially the wc and bathroom! No hairdryer or mirror in the bedroom... not a major problem, but required non the less!

Review 98:Wonderfull old lady watering plants and checking the breakfast table whilst saying hello to everyone... she was fab!! Excellent guy on reception... extremely helpful as we were trying to print out boarding passes! Quirky furniture and timeless atmosphere. .. loved it! Awesome views!

Review 99:Décor somewhat outdated.

Review 100:Duplex apartment nice and spacious with children sleeping in own room upstairs. Very friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful views.

Review 101:Friendly reception, clean room, good breakfast, dog friendly. Convenient for Summer and Winter sports. Secure storage for bikes and skis. Excellent location.

Review 102:The restaurant offered probably the worst meal I have ever eaten in mylife in France. And the menu cost €30! Had to ask the waiters 3 timesfor something to drink, the food took incredibly long to arrive and wasthen a total disappointment. The bread rolls were the tastiest thingthat night. Avoid it and go elsewhere to eat! The shower head in thebathroom was also broken, which I informed the hotel about but nothingwas fixed or exchanged in the two days I was there. Poor service.

Review 103:The room was quiet, very spacious, large balcony, large bed and thequality of the sheets was very good. Other people have mentioned thebathrooms being old and 'worn' - this is certainly true butdidn't bother me.

Review 104:Breakfast poor Spa facilities very poor and not working most of the time Carpets worn and grubby No tea or coffee making facilities in room In need of updating

Review 105:Close for skiing fairly pleasant

Review 106:Pool too cold (personal choice)

Review 107:Great Location Staff very friendly and helpful Food was very good, plenty of choice on the breakfast buffet and delicious food for the evening meal Good size family room

Review 108:Fabulous hotel. Great location for skiing - you only have to walk 20 metres in your ski boots. Love the decor - cosy and fun. Great staff - super friendly.

Review 109:Not in line with website as probably some rooms were renovated butdefinitively not all of them... - website looked much nicer than reality! spa did not look very engaging...:-(

Review 110:Very nice ski resort (alpe d'huez) !

Review 111:The pool area wasn´t that nice, the jacuzzi didn´t work. The people in the reception wasn't that keen on recommend other restaurants. We find out by ourself and it was cheaper to go out to have a nice beef, raclette, wine etc

Review 112:The location was very good, close to all the restaurants and the ski-slopes. A nice area in the reception to sit and have a drink in the evenings. We had a superior room which was ok for the money even if the bathroom was in a oldfashion style.

Review 113:Bit dated - needs a face-lift only one waiter at breakfast so slow toreplenish supplies

Review 114:Good location, spacey lounges, south facing balcony, friendly staff

Review 115:Could have had a better shower. Difficult to get room temperature right.

Review 116:Nice atmosphere, very close to lift or ski in and out. Good size room & bathroom with large balcony. Excellent choice for breakfast. Nice lounge and bar areas.

Review 117:Evening menu , a buffet would have been better, dated like an old pair of trousers, at least it fitted . Price ..but what do you expect at half term?

Review 118:Location , breakfast, staff generally, ski in ski out , availability, dated comfort. Views from balcony.
