Reviews for The Kings Arms Hotel

Review 1:There was only one small thing I didn't like. Although there were plenty sockets there wasn't one close enough to the mirror that I could use for the hair dryer.

Review 2:We stayed in room 4 first floor which is above the bar which is noisy with music until 11pm

Review 3:Rooms are very nice, bathrooms nice also, tea coffee in rooms always a good thing

Review 4:Hot plate for breakfast would have been good and whilst not many in that night a good range of food for breakfast - unfortunately the croissants felt days old

Review 5:Staff very friendly and room good

Review 6:Service in restaurant very slow. Always seemed to be an excuse. Bar could be more comfortable. Lounge area could be better.

Review 7:Room with space & clean.

Review 8:There was confusion over what was happening for New Years Eve. Despite ringing four times before traveling we were unclear what was happening. Even on arrival the receptionist didn't know the arrangements and didn't follow up when she said she would find out. Unsurprisingly the New Years Eve party was very disappointing

Review 9:Spacious room

Review 10:If you arrive on a busy day, it may be difficult to find a parking space in the street outside. I parked in the free public car park at the bottom of the hill, then moved the car up to the hotel during the early evening. If it hadn't been raining, I wouldn't have minded. A small price to pay for an excellent hotel.

Review 11:Rooms were excellent both in size and comfort. There was a lift which was great. The bar and restaurant were cosy and the food was good. Excellent service. Spotlessley clean, staff helpful and pleaseant.

Review 12:The hotel is up and down a fairly steep hill into the village/town centre which may be awkward for some guests.

Review 13:Really lovely room with French doors onto garden. I booked very last minute and suspect I was upgraded though as I had only booked a single! Friendly bar area but I thought the food seemed quite expensive so ate elsewhere. Breakfast was excellent though.

Review 14:doors locked quite early and as daughter was unable to negotiate steps at front we needed to go in the side entrance it waqs a little inconvenient

Review 15:cooperative staff, as my daughter has a disability

Review 16:Breakfast dining experience wasn't great. Dining area was a bit grotty. Played loud annoying jazz first thing in the morning. Served my partner stale bread

Review 17:Location. General standard of the hotel

Review 18:Cocktail bar was like a zoo. Girls hen night on & all falling about drunk from about 4.pm till 7.oo pm.Later on at night tried to go for a drink but far to crowded.Would benefit with a residents lounge in coffee bar.

Review 19:Room was very good & staff nice,Food in restaurant excellent & good value.

Review 20:Not a bad experience - just thought it was a shame that there were so few staff around- we went for a coffee after check in and it was deserted. waited for a good 10 minutes and then left to go elsewhere. Looked lovely too!

Review 21:The onsite restaurant was great with excellent food and service. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard and the rooms are very well appointed.

Review 22:Was very surprised to find the hotel is not licensed to serve alcohol to residents unless the cocktail bar is open, this meant that I was unable to have a nightcap to take to my room at 11pm,

Review 23:Bedroom quiet, comfortable ,& warm, Staff caring and helpful ,

Review 24:There were a few issues in the bathroom, no cover on the toilet flush, continuously flushed all night the first night. When we told staff in the morning this was fixed straight away. Some other hole cover missing in the bath and lose tile on the floor.

Review 25:Great location, big comfy bed. Staff dealt with issues quickly.

Review 26:Heating wasn't on enough for the weather, got very cold and woke up cold in the night (and I am used to cold places, maybe just need warmer duvet). Shower pressure intermittent and taps difficult to control!

Review 27:Female receptionist very polite and helpful. Nice decor. Good location. Good facilities overall.

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Nice rooms, nice staff, nice facilities, nice food, nice hotel all round,, owners are making this old building fabulous,, cant wait to see the final result, will visit again

Review 30:Wi-Fi didn't work in room. No pressure or hot water in basin taps in bathroom. Some staff very helpful, but others gave very indifferent service to guests.

Review 31:Location of hotel and easy access to free public car park. Room was lovely and warm. It's listed in Bradshaw's 19th century railway guide.

Review 32:On arrival employee looked uninterested in his job and quite lazy compared to the other employee we spoke to later that day who was more helpful. Restaurant in hotel not open long enough 4.30pm closed . Bar in hotel was closed on arrival at hotel 3.30pm.

Review 33:Excellent central location of hotel. The hotel is clean and tidy. A good refurbishment has been undertaking at the hotel. Rooms are comfortable.

Review 34:There was a long wait for breakfast we didn't proceed and our relatives were disappointed that one breakfast was being cooked one at a time after 45 min they gave up waiting .

Review 35:The evening food was lovely the cocktail bar lovely meeting up with others

Review 36:This is the second time in three weeks we stayed the first time was perfect but not this time we had the same meal as before and that's where it ended first time we had melon with lovely fruits this time we had a side salad who eats melon with onions then I had a steak again first time it had all the trimmings and sauce separate this time the steak was covered in sauce there was a basket of burned chips , we then went through for a quiet drink not to be the staff were having a party which went on to the early hours , breakfast was inedible ,when I checked out there was no one to talk to , it would not put us off coming back as the staff and hotel are lovely and I should have complained at the time!

Review 37:Breakfast didn't start until 7:30am and it took a while to be served. OK if on holiday but not if on business.

Review 38:Modern, well presented and comfortable room. Hotel has had a recent make-over which has much improved it since my last visit. Perfect location in heart of Berwick.

Review 39:As building is old the bedroom floors creak slightly, normally not a problem, except the couple upstairs were obviously have a much better time than me in my firm twin !

Review 40:Ambiance if entrance rooms and reception excellent. Ask for twin walk-in shower and you score the best bathroom and twin doubles - thank you. Eat on-site and get the most uplifting staff experience plus the best pork ever.

Review 41:Very limited parking Restaurant disappointing Wet cleaning of floors outside restaurant whilst customers were still leaving after breakfast.

Review 42:Central location.

Review 43:Good location, room was very comfortable and staff helpful. The restaurant was accessible from the hotel reception which was ideal, the evening meal in the restaurant was lovely and cooked to perfection. This was the second time I have stayed and if I get the chance will certainly return.

Review 44:Sockets nowhere near mirrors. We thought breakfast should have been included in the price.

Review 45:Location. Beautiful bathrooms. Great cocktail bar! Friendly staff.

Review 46:No water in the room and the bar was shut on Sunday night so nowhere to buy any soft drinks. Breakfast not being available until 7:30AM.

Review 47:The breakfast, the room and the tea making facilities.

Review 48:The restaurant service was just bizarre. They ended up just leaving us in there to finish our main course with just the washer up for company. No offer of sweet or coffee. The bar then shut at 10pm not 11pm.

Review 49:The room was lovely, huge bathroom and high end accessories

Review 50:Reception staff need to be trained on things to see and do in the area. The receptionist apologized for not being able to help us on knowing local attractions. She said, she wasn't from local area. Not good enough!

Review 51:Location to shops, restaurants. Clean.

Review 52:No parking. Noisy town centre and noisy neighbours. Breakfast was in restaurant next door, sticky tables! Seems not sure if the hotel is a bar/resto or a hotel.

Review 53:Nice staff. Good town centre location.

Review 54:main dining area. While staff were excellent the ambience was negative. They have work to do to bring it up to a better standard. Parking was problematic, not great.

Review 55:spacious room with good bathroom, good location.

Review 56:No attention to detail. Things that didn't work. Toilet cistern ran allnight, no backing plate, toaster in dining room partially broken, wall paper falling offin room23, no tissues or bottles of water in room.

Review 57:Very comfortable beds.

Review 58:No mirror by any of the plugs which is a pain when getting ready. Luckly I carry an extention cable with me as this is often an issue in hotels.

Review 59:The room was lovely and clean. Bed was cosy and the bathroom was great. great value. £55 for such a lovely place. I travel for work and can stay in 2 or 3 hotels a week and this has been the nicest in a while

Review 60:The bar does not belong to the hotel. So no chance of retiring there at the end of a night as it is shut. Paying at chek in and before you have seen your room is unusual. Fortunately the rooms are good. However, this is an unsettling practice. A bit pricey

Review 61:Location in the middle of the town is good. The rooms are well equipped and the clean. Staff are friendly and helpful

Review 62:Wifi connection was very poor, pictures of breakfast was not representative at all for what they actually served (disappointing).

Review 63:Close to city centre and newly refurbished so room was fresh.

Review 64:This hotel was refurbished in 2012 to a high standard. Checking in was excellent, staff very pleasant, Italian restaurant good choice on the menu and food was excellent.

Review 65:The only criticism I have is that the on-suite toilet was still temperamental and not properly mended from the previous visit.

Review 66:Friendly, helpful staff and same room as we occupied last year which is spacious and clean.

Review 67:Restaurant staff not very helpful spent most of time talking in stead of asking customers if all was ok.

Review 68:Reception staff very pleasant and welcoming. The room lovely spacious and comfortable.

Review 69:The shower was very slippy and really hard to get in and out of. There was no handrail and if I had my elderly parents with me they would have been unable to get in/out of it.

Review 70:The hotel is not disability friendly in any way and there are risk factors for the elderly and disabled ie poor access into building with wheelchair / buggy ramp being slippy and too steep. Concerns if fire broke out as stairs too steep and spiralled for elderly / disabled. No hooks in bathroom to hang dressing gown etc. The room I booked did not have the promised walk in shower required for elderly mother. I had been told there was one in the family room prior to actually booking .This only picked up by the hotel 10 days before we went when in fact I had booked over 6 weeks before. No other hotel availability in the area so had no choice but to go and make do.

Review 71:The Staff throughout the hotel and also in the attached Limoncello Restaurant were so happy, helpful and attentive. Breakfast and dinner superb. The family room on the second floor accessed by a lift or many stairs was very comfortable and well furnished. Lovely bathroom with a shower over the bath. Bar and sitting areas very comfortable. A lovely coffee shop also. Right in the centre of town.

Review 72:The noise from the kitchen extractor fan. The generic instructions for bath/shower use. The instructions should be relevant to that room. To give instructions saying 'if you are lucky to have a bath and shower' makes you feel 'unlucky'!! Didn't mind just having a shower until that point.

Review 73:All the staff were very helpful and cheerful especially the waitress at breakfast and the girl on the desk. They all seemed to work as a team

Review 74:The room was very comfortable with all the main facilities. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the food was very good, especially the evening meal in the restaurant.

Review 75:Our room was clean, reasonably spacious, at the front of the building. It was rather hot in the room, a fan or a/c would have been good. The bedroom windows did not open (understandable on 2nd floor), the bathroom one did open a couple of inches. However, with the window open there was a lot of noise from outside (especially when local bars closed) and from traffic and seagulls! There was also quite a lot of noise from some sort of machinery? ie whirring noises periodically throughout the night, which sometimes stopped us sleeping. Breakfast was good, but sometimes slow service. However, it was freshly cooked to order.

Review 76:We liked the location of the hotel within the town, and the town was also a good base for visiting Northumberland in general. Parking was about 100 yards away, but was free 24 hours a day and was not a major issue. There was limited short-term parking outside the for dropping off luggage etc.

Review 77:The restaurant was noisy to the extent we had to be moved to another dining area. Even the waiter complained about the level of noise.

Review 78:Accommodation was good

Review 79:Shower (although instructions were provided) took a while to get the water temperature right. View was disappointing of the seagull-stained glass roof of the rear of the hotel. Stairs up to the room were a bit steep and the carpet looked a bit dated and shabby but don't be put off because the room was lovely.

Review 80:Good location. Bedroom was clean and spacious. Bathroom was also very clean and spacious with 2 showers. Bed was very comfortable. Lovely toileteries. Clean fluffy towels.

Review 81:Did'nt have a bad experience but thought breakfast was a bit pricey at £8-95. We declined & ate in local cafe.

Review 82:Liked everything. Room was lovely. Very modern furnishings.location was good.

Review 83:No Air con, window painted up so could not open. Rather expensive for Berwick.

Review 84:Great location for Berwick town centre. Great restaurant on site (Limoncellis)

Review 85:Disappointed that the bar and restaurant were not open on Sunday - they looked lovely - and that this did not affect the price.

Review 86:Lovely central hotel, rustic and full of character.

Review 87:The outside of the building is very poor and requires a lot of work all round. The garden seating area is overgrown with weeds and is no use at all.

Review 88:The new reception and room decoration is good and very clean.

Review 89:Bed was uncomfortable...Seemingly no wifi. The bathroom had the panel missing for the toilet.

Review 90:Staff were welcoming and helpful. Location was in the heart of Berwick.

Review 91:Parking very poor Breakfast appaling Paying extra for breakfast on top of the room tarrif, (breakfast was appaling) would recomend dont have the breakfast go to a local cafe, this will be much cheaper and much better value for money. Poor value for money Would not recomentd to family and friends to stay at this hotel

Review 92:liked the location. Rooms very clean Staff friendly and helpful

Review 93:My eggs benedict was good but my wife's omelette was difficult to describe. (Waitress very pleasant) The whole place needs some TLC. Seagulls were really noisy early morning but can't blame the hotel for that but the plumbing noise above our room was disturbing.

Review 94:Location in the town, very helpful friendly staff.

Review 95:poor bathroom facilities which had varying problems with operation which led to having to move rooms. No soap available and lamps out in the room. Poorly cooked breakfast with cold sausage and 'soggy' bacon. Staff were pleasant and dealt well with complaints but problems with the room indicate poor management/inspection process to prepare rooms.

Review 96:The weather was glorious when we stayed so room got very warm & windows didn't open. A seperate top sheet would have been welcome as duvet was high tog. However we didn't ask for one so can't say it wouldn't have been provided. Biscuits only on first day.

Review 97:The staff were very friendly & the rooms modern but quirky. On arrival there was everything you would expect in a higher rated hotel.

Review 98:room No 2 is where I stayed its on the ground floor with single glazed glass window out onto the main high street. I would ask for an upper floor if I go again

Review 99:the staff are really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. the food in the restaurant was 5* I can recommend a stay here.

Review 100:This was just my room but the shower was either scalding hot or off. Couldn't stand under it! My friends room was fine.

Review 101:Location, bar prices were reasonable. Breakfast was very good.

Review 102:We did not take breakfast. When we anted a drink in the evening we were unable to find staff to serve us in the bar straight away. The bar closed at ten which we found unusual in a hotel. Next day when we wanted afternoon tea there was no staff around. Eventually we were able to order the food but much of the food advertised and service did not come up to expectation. We consider that this aspect of the hotel let down the otherwise excellent facility.

Review 103:very comfortable room and pleasant staff. Central good situation within the town.

Review 104:The bed was not very comfortable and there was a noise issue on the top floor, it sounded as though it was a motor / fan running and the noise went on late stopping about midnight.

Review 105:The hotel is clean with helpful staff and the location is good.

Review 106:The room was pricey no bottled water on two nights & staff disorganised. Also chainging booking or cancelling rooms not able to do so because it was booked thro booking .com web site. Not good

Review 107:Hotel was nice & in a good location in town ctr. Rooms were big and very clean/ well fitted out

Review 108:Room 3 was above Reception which was noisy until 02:40am - I could hear the conversations plainly due to the thin floor and carpeting! If you're allocated Room 3 - my tip is to refuse the room. Loud intermittent music. I reported the incident to the Receptionist - she said she'd investigate! Despite the hotel being clean, comfortable and great breakfast - I won't stay again due to the noise. Single travellers always get the poorest rooms!

Review 109:Clean, comfortable and great breakfast.

Review 110:On the whole it is a lovely hotel with lots of character and pleasant, helpful staff. Just one or two niggles - front facing of toilet cistern was missing and tended to keep running unless it was fiddled around with. I prefer a hard bed but the mattress was rather too hard for me.

Review 111:Lovely hotel with a good mixture of modern and old styles. All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Great food in the Limoncello restaurant. The Dickens lounge is a comfortable place to have a leisurely tea or coffee with some delicious cakes! Was fascinated by the Lychee flowering tea!

Review 112:For nearly £100 per night, without breakfast, I felt this was massively overpriced. Room was clean and adequate but small (for the price) and the big shower didn't work leaving the one in the bath which was very awkward to work. I decided yo have breakfast the first morning and by eggs Benedict took 30 minutes to arrive! Waitress was very apologetic but clearly the kitchen is understaffed. Also, at 8.30am all the pastries had run out - kitchen also understocked I think!

Review 113:Staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 114:Great Hotel, fantastic stay and fantastic customer service from all of the staff members. Our company will definitely be using this hotel for any other business needs.

Review 115:Bathroom ability to have a regulated shower water temp. First stay boiling or cold shower ended in a bath. Second stay water on boiling in shower scalded feet and resulted in no shower. Mentioned at check out

Review 116:location comfortable room

Review 117:Wifi only on ground floor. It will "be sorted in the next two weeks". No private parking. Relies on street parking (time-limited outside the hotel) - but I was lucky as a late arriver/early leaver. Bad news if you plan to stay all day and do Berwick. Restaurant closed on Sunday evening. Good local restaurants, but expect to walk.

Review 118:Stayed two separate nights Rooms very good. Restaurant good value. Breakfast good.

Review 119:The room was very spacious, comfortable and tastefully presented. There was also complimentary fruit in the room making a great differentiator to other hotels.

Review 120:Lack of staff one person to man reception bar and coffee shop. Breakfast one morning had to do all yourself and order food to cook. Parking a nightmare, only one hour slot parking outside hotel so having to move regularly. Superior room, old fruit in bowl. One small bar of soap for use for 2 nights. Would not stay there again.

Review 121:Nice bedroom friendly staff.

Review 122:Breakfast room too dark, not very good for first thing in morning. Waited 50 minutes for breakfast on Tuesday morning - normal chef's morning off we were told. Not good when it arrived.

Review 123:Rooms were very nice and staff on reception very pleasant and helpful. Beds were comfy but maybe a bit hard for some people.

Review 124:Parking is not ideal. Our room had a new bathroom, very modern and Italian styled. It was very trendy but needed a little more to finish it effectively.

Review 125:The breakfast team were fantastic. The room was very spacious and elegant.

Review 126:The fact the windows no longer opened, got very hot when there was afternoon sun shining in.

Review 127:There was a lift, very important when you are getting older and have a room on the second floor.

Review 128:restarant and bar closed at 4pm on sunday.no one about, needs a great deal of tlc, maybe the manager could do some work instead of been on his mobile, when he is there. two people from reception appeard to do everything including cooking and serving breakfast, although polite and friendly.

Review 129:leaving

Review 130:even though the hotel states that wifi is only available in the lobby it would be fabulous to have it in your room. something for the future maybe?

Review 131:loved the food at the on site restaurant

Review 132:Staff on reception very unhelpful. The room was fully refurbished but was spoiled by the amount of errors & omissions. It must have been designed by someone who had never ever stayed in a hotel bedroom.

Review 133:Berwick on Tweed is a nice place. Found 2 excellent restaurants near to where we stayed.

Review 134:When we first went in after a long ride on our motor bikes shower was stone cold, the last thing we wanted. After seeing reception this was soon rectified

Review 135:Good location in the middle of the town. Room quite spacious.

Review 136:Everything. The bed had springs sticking into you all night hardly slept. Lunch was awful processed and heated garlic bread that was actually pitza base with raw garlic and a small soup. The first waitress we encountered was rude and just was not helpful at all. The others were great. The bathroom door didn't shut properly and the flush mechanism for the toilet had no cover! The people above us spent long periods moving stuff across their floor causing loud continuous noise. I finally went down and complained! Nothing happened. Having already prepaid I left early the next day with only a couple of hours sleep and couldn't face the thought of the breakfast!!!

Review 137:No internet connection in bedroom and connection in public areas did not seem to work either

Review 138:Excellent central location yet no noise, friendly helpful staff, good value and nice atmosphere in restaurant

Review 139:TV reception was digitally pixelating, tub on the small side, no WiFi signal though Booking.com said there was, very firm mattress

Review 140:3 minute walk to city walls overlooking the water, good hot breakfast included
