Reviews for Hotel De La Plage - Mahogany

Review 1:It was challenging to access from the train. Transportation is inconsistent we met some wonderful locals who helped us out. Finally a local business ( Casino) asked one of their employees if they could drop us off on their way home! So although this took some time it left us with the feeling that everyone was trying their best. ( I had a broken foot in a walking boot or we would have attempted walking.)

Review 2:The location was wonderful overlooking the beach, just outside the harbour. 10 minute walk to town good leg stretch. Wonderful lady at the front desk Valarie was so gracious and helpful. Breakfast was a lovely followers of choices! We did have 1 dinner at the hotel it was beautifully prepared fresh local fish. And also so convenient and relaxing. Aperitif , dinner desert and our waiter also selected a lovely bottle of local wine to compliment our meal. We just needed to take the elevator back to our room. (There were also great choices in town all with great menus,we did this on other nights.) I would love to return to this hotel. Thanks Valarie for making our stay a wonderful Provence experience! We had been to Nice and the Rviera too busy and pretentious for us.

Review 3:We have been here before and will be back again. This time the hotel was in need of new paint and some renovations, things like paint on the balcony rails.

Review 4:Our balcony view of the Mediterranean was absolutely breath-taking. Wonderful location.

Review 5:The room we had at at the back of the hotel was dark and cave-like.

Review 6:The suite facing the water was amazing and the staff were all extremely helpful and friendly

Review 7:no safe in room 30 had to pay for private beach none of the British or German TV channels worked in our room

Review 8:view was magnificent breakfast tasty location ideal private parking Staff very helpful especially Gwyndoline who drove us to Villa Maddie when no cabs were available

Review 9:Amazing view from the oceanfront rooms. Very nice staff that really went above and beyond-- helping us book tours and contact local kayak rental places, refrigerating our champagne, etc. Best thing: location is right across the street from a lovely stone beach. 5-10 minute walk to Cassis harbor & restaurants, 15 minute walk to Calanque hiking area. Good amenities, comfortable bed, and a delicious petite dejeuner.

Review 10:The restaurant is very pricey. (33 Euro lunches!) The whole place is a little "posh." We felt out of place the morning we ate breakfast in our clothes for hiking. The staff also were a little bit posh, but not to the point of being unhelpful or rude - just less welcoming than you'd expect.

Review 11:The hotel is super chic, great location across the street from a private beach and with a great view of Cap Canaille. Balconies provide a great sea view. Short walk into town. The restaurant is very chic with a modern beach design. Free wifi and a good breakfast and bar. The staff was accommodating and proficient in English. It's a great value.

Review 12:Room was small, there was no space to unpack the suitcase (like drawers or shelves in the wardrobe). Door to balcony won't close properly. A number of quirky things: - balcony separated from neighbouring by a high wall narrowing the view and giving claustrofobic feeling (what for? you can hear your neighbours anyway and to limit the view to other balconies 1 m non solid barrier would be enough) - curtain closing "wardrobe" (w hole in the wall without any shelves) was ca 50 cm too long and therefore dragged on the floor. - the only 2 parking stands in front of the hotel were blocked by laundry service excatly in the check out time (made us leave later that wanted) - lift was blocked by the hotel staff (of course they needed to load laundry...) at check out time.

Review 13:the non questionable plus is a view from the balcony (to the sea and a cliff).

Review 14:Phone not working and no safe in room. For passport security etc.

Review 15:Wow, great location in a very busy and popular local tourist area. Easy walk to main town with a beautiful beach across the road. It's a boutique hotel with plenty of space. We had the back garden room. Was happy due to the size of room but the phone was not working and there was a safe advertised but was not there. Other than that I can only imagine what the ocean view rooms must be like. Give it a go you'll love cassis!

Review 16:The breakfast was disappointing for 13 euros, so after the first morning we had breakfast immediately below the hotel at a snack bar for 8 euros 50.

Review 17:From the moment we walked into our room (no 30), we were bowled over by the view - it was everything we'd hoped for! Lovely to sit on the balcony and see clear blue sea, sky and impressive Cap Canaille. The hotel provided free towels for use on the beach opposite - wonderful to be so close. We were glad we'd paid the 15 euros per day for parking as it was trouble-free, shared with another hotel. We would have been glad of the two drop-off spaces right outside the hotel entrance if we'd seen them there! Would definitely return.

Review 18:This has nothing to do with the Hotel de la Plage but the rocky beach was a bit hard to get used to; however all of the beauty countered that slight inconvenience.

Review 19:We knew the hotel faced the sea but did not realize how close and how overpowering the Mediterranean would be from our room. Just across the street is a small beach and swimming in the sea was heavenly. The staff were kind and incredibly supportive. The food was top notch. The light, all white and natural decor was lovely. Being so close to Cassis yet not in the village was a perfect location for a sense of privacy and quiet. Cassis and this hotel were our favorites during our month long trip around France!

Review 20:The only problem we had was that we had booked an 8am train departing from Cassis. We assumed that we would be able to reserve a taxi through the front desk the night before our train, but the concierge explained that it was too late and that the taxi drivers in Cassis do not answer their phones at night (after 9pm) or early in the morning (before 9am). The concierge tried calling several taxi drivers that night and again in the morning, but he was right that they did not answer their phones. We ended up starting to walk to the train station (which is about 3 mile walk at a steep incline) before a lovely woman saw us struggling with our suitcases and offered to drive us to the train station! This isn't really the hotels fault, but it would be useful if the staff asked if hotel guests will require a taxi when they depart. Long story short--make sure you reserve a taxi for your departure well in advance, especially if it is early in the morning!

Review 21:I traveled to Cassis with my boyfriend and we had the most amazing time. The location of the hotel is great as it is right across from a beautiful beach, just a short 10 min walk into town, and en route to the calanques. We, unfortunately, do not speak much French and so we were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by staff who were more than happy to speak English. The hotel was very clean and had a nice indoor/outdoor dining area. We had most of our meals in town, but enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the hotel on the deck overlooking the water. We opted for one of the seaview rooms and thought that it was worth every penny. The view is incredible and it was so nice to be able to sit out on the balcony.

Review 22:When I changed from 5 nights to 4 with the booking.com representative, without identifying, the room was changed from a view of the sea to a noisy and dusty room adjacent to a construction site. Although the rep couldn't have known about the construction, regardless of this, they should have alerted us to the non view room change. Especially important here.

Review 23:The rooms are small. You need to reserve parking in hotel parking lot, but it doesn't seem to have a lot of spaces. Right now there's a lot of roadwork being done in Cassis, and the hotel was very difficult to find. They should provide directions taking into account detours and one way streets.

Review 24:The view and the beach access and proximity to restaurants and harbor.

Review 25:Tiny shower and no shower door/curtain was a bit of a challenge. Make sure to arrange for parking in hotel lot.

Review 26:Beautiful location. Excellent views. Very nice restaurant. Short walk to lovely Cassis harbor shops, restaurants and hustle bustle but far enough away to be quiet.

Review 27:Nothing not to like.

Review 28:The location and valet parking which was a relief. The concierge spoke excellent English and were very friendly and helpful with restaurant and shopping recommendation. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable.

Review 29:The overall poor details detracted from the overall experience. Construction from remodeling, broken elevator, poor wifi, lack of solutions. It could be improved with some TLC.

Review 30:beautiful beach location with view of Cap Caneille.

Review 31:It is a bit on the expensive side. Elevator wasn't working, and WiFi was not quite straightforward to use.

Review 32:As the title says - location is awesome. Not only the view, but closeness to Cassis centre.

Review 33:everything was tired.

Review 34:location is good - straight across the road to the beach. We saw inside the ocean view rooms, and they looked far better than the room we had on the back of the hotel - potentially a different experience in these rooms as they look like they have been renovated

Review 35:The room that we had overlooked the back parking lot, a picnic table and a clothes line with clothes on it. It was called "the Garden Room." The hotel is old and the rooms need a major face lift for the price.

Review 36:The views were fantastic from the front of the hotel. You could walk in either direction from the hotel to have dinner or hike. The breakfast was great out on the terrace overlooking the ocean.

Review 37:Car parking fees. Bar opposite played music until 1.30am Saturday night so very little sleep had :( Bin lorries arrived at 5am Sunday morning so even less sleep had :(

Review 38:Location. Sea view, paid extra for this.

Review 39:The public parking by the hotel is a bit expensive but there seem to be a 3 days value ticket to be requested at the Office du Tourisme. We just found out too late...

Review 40:Location is excellent! Right on a nice little beach, just 5mn walk from the port and main area Great views from the room with view and terrace Staff very nice and helpful Relaxed, clean and welcoming.

Review 41:With the sea view comes the sound of the quite busy road, but it's really worth it.

Review 42:Great location, right by best beach in Cassis and only ten minutes walk from town - sea view rooms are amazing, with best balconies on the first floor.

Review 43:The room was not rady to move in until 5 pm which is not acceptable if you are staying for only one day. We spend half of our time waiting in the lobby

Review 44:The hotel is average . What is worthy is the view if you have a room with a view.

Review 45:We found that the prices were too high for the quality offered. e.g. Euro 13.00 for a continental breakfast !

Review 46:Location, friendly service at reception & breakfast.

Review 47:none

Review 48:the location of hotel, the view, the deck from our room.

Review 49:The food was expensive and we were told it had to be paid for in the restaurant

Review 50:The room had a great view

Review 51:Food a bit pricy

Review 52:Location, view, staff

Review 53:the windows view just stunning

Review 54:Had to Paying for parking. Room quite small

Review 55:Beautiful sea view, contemporary furnishings . Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 56:Location was superior

Review 57:Bathroom needs redecorating, no towel-rail in bathroom and bed extremely uncomfortable.

Review 58:Location

Review 59:The view across the ocean is stunning. The room and facilities are clean, efficient and well presented

Review 60:Bathroom was wet because the shower was difficult. Sliding door a problem

Review 61:Loved the view and the decor

Review 62:It is quirky, but wonderful.

Review 63:The view is amazing. The beach is just accross the road.

Review 64:The location

Review 65:No fridge in room.

Review 66:Great views out over the sea.

Review 67:Loved this hotel and the town of Cassis. Worth a visit, as it was one of our favorites.

Review 68:everything was great we enjoyed a lovely two weeks there no complaints at all.

Review 69:Beautiful location facing the sea. Short walk to town centre.

Review 70:View, location, breakfast, bed size

Review 71:Amazing views from the private balcony with sun loungers, beautiful setting, great hotel, friendly service

Review 72:lift broke down, room very plain

Review 73:location, location, location. Dinner was superb

Review 74:Nothing

Review 75:Location and sea view. Breakfast on the terrasse.

Review 76:I felt that out of season it was very over priced.

Review 77:The View

Review 78:No secure parking

Review 79:Great location and beautiful room with a view.

Review 80:Breakfast was average, the buffet was not refreshed and service was very slow.

Review 81:Amazing location, beautiful beach. Very helpful staff at reception.

Review 82:Location, panorama

Review 83:Cocktail hour could use brushing up.

Review 84:Location, view, hospitality

Review 85:Nowhere to sunbathe apart from public beach or private area which cost 48 euros pp a day. Very noisy live music one night.

Review 86:Beautiful view. Convenient to walk to town.

Review 87:The room is odd. Big curb in the middle of the room. Like to removed the window and added a sleeping area on the former deck area. Weird shower odd construction. Otherwise clean and friendly staff

Review 88:Only get a beach view room. Our "garden view" room was a stretch. No garden, no view.

Review 89:Nice staff, lovely breakfast outside on the deck right across the street from the beach. Nice restaurant next door.

Review 90:The quality of the food from the breakfast was very average. We prefer less variety with a higher quality. For the rest everything was good. The view from the hotel and the room was wonderfull.

Review 91:They have a limited supply of beach towels and ran out of tea, coffee and milk while we were there. When I complained they just shrugged and said more was on order.

Review 92:The hotel is directly opposite the beach and Cap Canaille so the views are spectacular. We could hear the sea lapping onto the beach, it was wonderful. The bed was also amazingly comfortable.

Review 93:Limited parking - which made it difficult to bring luggage to hotel Room had an odor

Review 94:Great location - away from town but close enough to walk. Good beach and restaurant on the beach

Review 95:A bit difficult to locate on the day because of a couple of road closures. Parking next door not a particular issue, but have to seek entry when want to return to car. No restaurant and restaurant next door closed on evenings we were there.

Review 96:Quite a few years since a previous visit, but still very good. Wonderful position, good sea views, friendly and attentive staff, small but lovely rooms with balcony, good breakfast, close to port but far enough to remain tranquil. Won't leave it so long to return.

Review 97:Saturday night, question asked to the young man at the front desk: "when does the loud music stop at the bar across the street (the one the hotel apparently co-owns?)?" "Huh. I dunno." Monday morning wake up: to tractors pushing rocks around on the beach at 7a and tree trimmers cutting limbs until noon. I hope this is just beginning of the season issues, bc it was a buzz kill.

Review 98:You can't beat the location. Gorgeous in any weather.

Review 99:Internet intermittent. The room we had was wonderful but we saw another for the same price which was not nearly so good. You have to walk to Cassis harbour in the evening if you want to eat (maybe this would be different more in season)

Review 100:Wonderful room with 2 double beds and fantastic sea view. Great position on way to Calenques and 10 mins in other direction to town. Nice and helpful staff.

Review 101:The walk from the town centre to hotel is not far, but with no pavement for part of it it does not feel safe, especially when walking with suitcases, and in the evening.

Review 102:View from the room was stunning. Room itself clean and comfortable. Free wifi in room.

Review 103:The room is very small to use extra bed. But the size is enough to a couple. Only two cars can use the parking lot of the hotel.

Review 104:Cassis is a very beautiful village. The view from my room was fantastic and the location was good. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 105:The web site gives you wrong impression. There is no swimming pool. There is extra fee of 16€ to use the beach opposite of the Hotel. I hadbooked a sea view and it was not available! Garden view rooms are darkand need some refurbising. Very high rate for the rooms they offer.

Review 106:Location was great.

Review 107:It is a quick walk into the center of Cassis but what the maps don't tell you is there is a moderate sized hill between the hotel and town. The breakfast at the hotel was quite expensive so we went into town and spent about half per person. We did not eat at the hotel. Also, the hotel parking was much more expensive for our brief stay than if we had put the car in the nearby city lot. It is free from about 7 pm to 9 am.

Review 108:This is a great place if you plan to stay for a few days. Our room had a klovely sea view balcony bigger than the room but we never used it. The beach is directly across the street and the trail to Le Calanques is just down the road.

Review 109:If you can re-imagine the worst accommodation you have ever stayed at in the USA, the Hotel Mohagany would be still worse. To start with we didn't have any hot water to bath with and secondly we shared the room and the bed with ants. We were warned not to bring food into the room to avoid ants but they came anyway. We called the management to fix the water issue but it couldn't be fixed. He indicated that the room charge would be reduced, but upon check-out, the desk person said she didn't have the authority. There were two sliding doors to a wonderful outside terrace overlooking the Med. sea but one of the doors wouldn't lock. The interior of the room while called "mod" on the web site was more like the cover of Mad Magazine. We could overlook the broken blinds in the bathroom, but the lack of information on how to turn on the lights and electricity, left us in the dark.

Review 110:The staff was helpfull, courtious and the outside terraces and views over the sea were beautiful

Review 111:We arrived at 3oclock and left 2 hours later so we did not sleep therewe paid for the night and went to an other hotel. Ad first there was noone at the reception and we had to wait for one hour, and then the staffwas rude. We did not feel welcome!

Review 112:The reception staff was very unhelpful. When we checked in and later inquired about a problem, the stylish young female staff was very unhelpful. They never explained anything about the facilities of the room or the hotel. The gentleman who worked the evening shift was very nice and helpful. He was friendly and immediately helped us with a small problem we had with the room. This was the only hotel where we were treated poorly during our 3 1/2 week stay in Europe.

Review 113:The view of the sea from our room was very nice and relaxing. The decor was a classy beach style with whitewashed wood. Very nice.

Review 114:Unfriendly stuff , horrible smell in the room, they said to us it couldbe the floor...:(, Expensive breakfast 15 euro per person, no parkingdpace, we had to park around the corner-a a public parking for 1 euro/H.

Review 115:It was directly on the beach, great view.

Review 116:The room was very neglected: paintwork was peeling, furniture broken. Wecomplained about a slow-draining shower and a shower-head thatcontinually fell on one's head but no action was taken or apology made. The room was described as 'garden-side'but there was no garden, only awashing-line and some discarded furniture.

Review 117:We liked Cassis and the hotel's proximity to the beach.

Review 118:Two stars at Best. Mildew. Ragged. Awful breakfast, They did not fulfillrequest for suite, and but tried to charge regardless. Constant noisefrom nearby construction Site.

Review 119:The location was nice. Hotel has a nice homey feel.

Review 120:The sign in the room said that breakfast was included, but we were charged for it. Maybe we read it wrong....

Review 121:Location to the beach and the awesome breakfast.

Review 122:Helpful staff and beautiful location

Review 123:Location, easy walk to bars and restaurants, right on sea front

Review 124:Bathroom facilities

Review 125:View

Review 126:Bathroom had a bad smell

Review 127:Excellent location, right on the beach, lovely rooms

Review 128:Fantastic location. Nice staff. Private parking available. Gorgeous views from beach facing suites.

Review 129:Room was very comfortable. The ocean views were spectacular.

Review 130:Very small room

Review 131:The location and view
