Reviews for Hôtel Bonaparte
Review 1:Reception is not always manned. This makes it difficult to ask questions as issues arise.
Review 2:The hotel is great for those travelling by train - it is midway between the center of the town and the station.
Review 3:No fridge in the room but was able to use the fridge at reception. The room smelt a little musty.
Review 4:Great location to walk around to nearby landmarks. Comfortable full size beds for four.
Review 5:If you have mobility issues, be forewarned that you will have to step over the very high edge of the tub. Also, neither of the shower heads in our 2 rooms would stay upright enough to wash anything but the front wall of the shower.
Review 6:Good location. Onsite parking is a true challenge but with the assistance of the "host", it can be done (to be fair we had been forced to rent a rather large car).
Review 7:The man at the desk was not friendly at all and looked like he needed ashower..Parking is horrible he would not take our car in th garage andit would fit I went down myself and saw that it would..It took two hoursout of my life to find parking around that hotel..NEVER Again Getsomeone else at thr desk.
Review 8:Parking an issue. Did not use the hotel car park; couldn't find it the day I arrived. Had to park in underground car park near the cathedral.
Review 9:Good location. Spacious, comfortable rooms.
Review 10:Tired bathroom Breakfast served till 10 o'clock, but we were told, we have to leave the breakfast room by 10 o'clock. Breakfast very pricy 11,90 euro.
Review 11:Location, comfy bed, good value
Review 12:The rooms are a little bit too small. Same for the bed, it is a little bit short, maybe for Napoleon :).
Review 13:Very good location, close to the centre of the town. The breakfast was excellent. Very clean.
Review 14:breakfast a little expensive if you only want a little , But a very big choice if you want to have your fill. Then it is O.K. on price
Review 15:VERY comfortable beds BEST IN FRANCE and very clean
Review 16:No ventilation in the bathroom means everything stayed a bit damp, which probably explains the paint starting to peel.
Review 17:It is quite close to the station and all the main attractions in Rouen. We had a room with a small balcony onto the street the hotel fronts. The decore is "different". The faux quilted leather walls are not something I have encountered before! It's OK - I would stay there again.
Review 18:Reception closes from 8pm until around 8am. French-speaking staff is very friendly but communication can be a problem. This is a budget hotel - room decor is terribly dated. Pink toilet seat, off-white toilet, gold sink top, etc. Our bathroom was not very clean. I should have known better. Price reflects condition! A sign in the lobby said they were undergoing renovations, yet we saw no evidence of this.
Review 19:Excellent location near the beautiful Abbey of St-Ouen, our favorite church in Rouen. Anything in the historic center of town is within easy walking distance. Parking decks are nearby. Breakfast was wonderful. The elevator was most welcome!
Review 20:dated rooms, phone didn't work, could be cleaner.
Review 21:Excellent breakfast buffet and our hostess was very friendly and helpful. Easy walk from the train station.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:The lady owner was fantastic, the hotel was lovely, great nights sleep and a good fun breakfast! If your a coffee lover, excellent coffee, my partner was in his element!!
Review 24:Reception closes and lights are turned off at 8pm. The wifi connection cut out sometimes. The shower is hand held, and has fluctuating water pressure and temperature.
Review 25:Very large clean room, nicely decorated (from what we could tell walking past other rooms being cleaned, our room was much nicer than some other rooms)
Review 26:The garage was very small and it was difficult to get out of it.
Review 27:The location was great and the breakfast was excellent. The concierge was friendly and welcoming.
Review 28:The staff were more than helpful to any of our needs. Yves was not only humorous but assisted with the parking. The front desk staff always had a smile and answered all of our questions. The location was great.
Review 29:Pillows were uncomfortably large. The room was very small and smelled as if it was deodorised with a spray.
Review 30:Conveniently located. Helpful staff. We enjoyed the Napoleon memorabilia.
Review 31:when booking it would be helpful if it was actively suggested that you park in the Hotel de Ville which is no distance and reasonably priced (using Hotel Bonaparte discount rate.
Review 32:staff were very helpful
Review 33:Bathroom was a little tired but functional
Review 34:The lady who helped us was lovely and very friendly. Location is great and the room was clean with a very comfortable bed
Review 35:We booked parking spaces with the hotel in advance but on arrival we found that we couldn't access the spaces as the car had a luggage box on top. This resulted in an hour of driving around Rouen to try and find a car park in which we could park. A very stressful experience. We eventually were able to park on the street opposite the hotel. This hotel is great if you're not driving. Well located for the central old town and easy access to bars and restaurants. Ironically it is also well located for quick access to the A28 hence why we chose it in the first place.
Review 36:Not really a 'didn't like' more a 'be aware of', if you are in a car the hotel has underground parking BUT access is very tight. Our Peugeot 807 just fits. Public underground car park 50 meters away.
Review 37:Location within walking distance of several good restaurants and close to Cathedral. Several bars also close by.
Review 38:Nothing to dislike
Review 39:Lovely hotel, clean, all the extras you could need, comfortable clean beds with top notch linen, breakfast was nice and varied. This hotel has a fabulous location with loads of nearby parking we will definitely return
Review 40:Hotel well located, room clean and bed comfortable but most outstanding was the eagerness of the gentleman at the desk to be of help. He gave directions, recommendations for attractions, restaurant recommendation, as well as finding the best auto rental rates. I would give him an A+. His service was way above normal. Buffet breakfast was complete and superb.
Review 41:Not a terrible experience but my toilet seat kept slipping off. The gentleman said it was fixed but in the middle of the night it slid off and I hit my head on the wall. I asked to change rooms the next morning, the gentleman was hesitant and I could tell he wasn't thrilled to let me change but he did give me another room.
Review 42:Nice clean room.
Review 43:Hotel was central to the city, staff were friendly, very clean and comfortable. Overall very pleased with the hotel, as we had to leave another hotel as it was not what was expected at all, this hotel however was what it was like on the website.
Review 44:Poor breakfast, even though the owner boasted about it being very good. Expensive at 12.50E, tables not cleared, items not replenished.
Review 45:Very comfy beds in one of the refurbished rooms. the refurbishment has been carried out very cheaply with cables stretched across the ceiling and the bathroom has not been worked on
Review 46:The hotel is in process of refurbishment, but is trying all the harder to be comfotable during the refurb process.
Review 47:Excellent position, great value, friendly receptionist, comfotable room
Review 48:Bathroom a little too small
Review 49:Everything about this hotel was tasteful with great attention being paid to detail. Breakfast was superb with a great range of high quality food on offer. Will definitely return to this lovely city and will be booking early to avoid dissapointment
Review 50:The staff are extremely helpful. Breakfast choice really good. View from the top floor rooms is impressive! Underground parking is available within 3 minutes walk (I was advised to use this as my front bumper is pretty low, and the concierge was concerned about me scraping a 4-week-old car!)
Review 51:A lot of street noise even with all windows shut.
Review 52:Convenient location within easy walking distance of shops, historical sites, restaurants. Excellent array of toiletries provided.
Review 53:Great central location. Pet friendly and dog was welcome in the breakfast room. Hotel shuts down at 8pm but guests get card access. Discount on local Hotel de Ville underground car park.
Review 54:The room was in need of decorating, net curtain covering the window was stained, the bathroom was in need of updating and the bath itself looked dirty. Not possible to have a bath, as the shower/bath tap was locked for shower use only. Wi-fi worked only intermittently.
Review 55:Hotel was easy to find and right in the centre of town.
Review 56:On a busy road so not able to leave windows open and no air-con. Hotel decore is tired.
Review 57:Staff friendly and helpful, secure parking a bonus but getting in and out was quite an experience.
Review 58:Lack of AC
Review 59:Lovely period hotel, helpful staff, first class breakfast with massive choice. Cherry on the cake was private parking. Easy walking distance into historic heart of Rouen.
Review 60:I personally consider the breakfast overpriced, but then again there was everything you could wish for.
Review 61:Great location and friendly staff. Very easy to get to snd has its own car park.
Review 62:Great location very close to the centre. Family room was fine. No air conditioning but the fan was a life saver. Parking very tight as everyone says but we braved it. Would prefer not to pay an additional 10 euros to park but convenient. Overall a good stop over.
Review 63:Underground parking is extremely small , sharp slope is the descent with a sharp turn , which can create problems .
Review 64:Great location , right next to Église de Saint-Ouen (0,1 km) and Hôtel de Ville . Room with table and chairs furnished balcony with views of Hôtel de Ville. Executive Director of the hotel is extremely helpful , answered all our requests about room.
Review 65:Finding it was a challenge due to the road systems in Rouen. Sat Nav sent us round in circles due to no access roads. Make sure you get a clear map if you are driving there
Review 66:Great value for money in an excellent location The reception closes at 8 pm but our kind host waited for us to arrive
Review 67:Receptionist couldn't process my Visa card. I had to hurry to a cash machine to withdraw the entire payment. Nothing wrong with my card. The man seemed incompetent.
Review 68:The room and bed etc was good
Review 69:We arrived late, we called the reception around 7pm and most efficiently we were given the entry codes both for the hotel and the garage. Everything went smoothly and we found the place to be most charming, in a perfect location for the old town exploration.
Review 70:Returning after 8.00 pm to find bar and lounge and reception closed with shutters . No staff around and access by magnetic card from street.
Review 71:Convenient for town centre and good to have a private underground car park.
Review 72:A laughably sour cleaning lady but the other staff more than compensated for her, they were very good.
Review 73:The room size was good, with a large bathroom. Also the shower was almost American in power. Make sure and ask for a revamped room though as I understand the renovation here is a work in progress.
Review 74:Everything was a bit red and gold especially in the dining room so that definately needs an upgrade painting wise, but it didn't put us off our breakfast which was excellent
Review 75:We used this Hotel as a stopover, it was good value for money and in a very good location. My sister was given a room right by the lift, there was a ripped sheet on the bed and a curtain hanging loose but when she complained a gentleman came to look, he was very surprised and apologised, he moved them to a much better room which had just been refurbished. The breakfast was excellent value and parking was just around the corner. The hotel seems to be undergoing a revamp and if my sisters room was anything to go by it will be really lovely when its finished
Review 76:Car park was secure and underground but with steep slope and very tight spaces
Review 77:Location - close to shops restaurants and tourist bits. Friendly welcome Good nights sleep in quiet room Breakfast - good value buffet
Review 78:No concerns or complaints about anything.
Review 79:The location and the breakfast were outstanding. The member of staff at the reception on our arrival and also at breakfast was very helpful and saw to everyone's needs.
Review 80:Understand the hotel is mid renovation. lighting in bathroom could be enhanced as could lighting control in bed room. Otherwise good value accom.
Review 81:excellent location in centre of city. comfortable room
Review 82:Basil Fawtly welcome, because we arrived early, but resolved when a room was found.
Review 83:Good shower. Tea in room, but tiny cups, had to ask for a real cup.
Review 84:Room being burst into by staff at 9pm at night when I was in bed. No excuse other than thought I wasn't there. What were they looking for?
Review 85:Location was great, near station and shopping and museums
Review 86:Nothing of significance- front lobby shuttered off in the evening, which would be a nice place for people to visit. Bathroom is getting a little tired.
Review 87:Great location, very helpful front desk/manager.
Review 88:At the time of our staying, the hotel was under refurbishment and some of the facilities were not in very good conditions. The style of the furniture and wallpapers are also quite..original.
Review 89:Our staying was really short so we did not look for a high-end hotel. In any event, apart from some questionable decisions in terms of furniture, the hotel is comfortable and the staff nice and ready to accommodate late arrival and other issues.
Review 90:Some issues over rooms we had reserved not being available as reservation desk wanted to fit our group into smallest number of rooms possible. Quadruple bedrooms are doubles plus 2 singles and not suitable for 4 adults - should be described as Family Room
Review 91:Location, secure parking for motorcycles
Review 92:If you park under the hotel, be prepared for some heroic maneuvers, well, just like Napoleon, but not a major problem and worth the 10 euros or so.
Review 93:Very helpful host, lovely clean, quiet room, quick walk to the old part of town, and the best hotel breakfast in France. Will stay there again, Thank you!
Review 94:Th car park, it was very poor indeed.I informed the hotel of my car and its size, a BMW 3 series estate and asked if car parking was ok? they said yes, but it really was a struggle and we had to move our car the next day so that someone else could get out!!!!
Review 95:location and the tidiness of the hotel
Review 96:Décor could use an update but very clean and tidy.
Review 97:Centrally located, just around the corner from the shopping and restaurant areas and within easy walking distance of all major attractions. Staff don't speak much English but are very helpful.
Review 98:the owners are very friendly and after a few visits its like family. Beds are ( I think ) the most comfortable in France " not like many hotels in France"!!!!
Review 99:The hotel is tired in decor and facility. We had 3 rooms and 2 of the showers had to be held up to use as the brackets were broken. Parking was easy on the street, but looked like we were lucky to get a space.
Review 100:It's near the Cathedral and university and in easy reach of many restaurants in pedestrian areas. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. They accepted the 2 dogs readily. Breakfast was simple but satisfying at 11 Euros pp
Review 101:old, being renovated, the bathroom was particularly antique.. incoherence of prices on site and real prices!!
Review 102:centrally located, good breakfast, nice staff
Review 103:Nothing.
Review 104:The staff are so helpful and friendly, location for seeing Rouen excellent, very comfy room, quiet with tea making facilities. Breakfast excellent choices. Brilliant to have secure car parking.
Review 105:Not enough instruction on arrival re: car park, stairs lift etc. Bathrooms are tired and decor rather heavy- red/black.
Review 106:Very comfortable bed and pillow. Plenty of hot water. Hairdryer which worked. Good breakfast though a little complicated with much on offer which was good, but coffee machine complicated and Urn coffee very watery.
Review 107:Like in most hotels, the breakfast is way too expensive: 11,90€ for a basic buffet. Exception e.g. Concorde Montparnasse where the service and the size of the buffet are in sync with the price.
Review 108:Decoration Quit Location Kindness of the staff
Review 109:Make sure you arrive by 8pm, reception closes afterwards. The lady at the reception was very nice, called us with the PIN code needed for the parking, so everything was well taken care of.
Review 110:Loved the room, small and cozy. There is an underground parking which guests can use. Breakfast is gorgeous, well worth the money! Wifi works great - we were able to stream films on Netflix with no hiccups.
Review 111:Hotel car park very difficult to get out, really steep!
Review 112:Friendly reception. Good central location. Cosy and comfortable room. Excellent but expensive breakfast.
Review 113:The hotel was a little far from the train station with our luggage.
Review 114:Good value for what we needed - a place to stay for one night on our way from Honfleur to Beaune.
Review 115:The gentleman who owned the hotel went out of his way to be helpful to us. As we had never been to the city before he got a local map and highlighted all the best areas of interest. Told us where we could purchase local produce. The food at the hotel was excellent. It is also very close to the centre without being too busy. I would recommend this hotel. I would return if i was ever in the area.
Review 116:nothing not to like
Review 117:Location, town centre but quiet due to good double glazing, great shower, very comfortable, large bed, great value plus secure parking, wish we could have stayed longer, will be back
Review 118:We are a couple and the manager provided us a twin bed. I did not realize first and then we have been told it was too late. This point wasted our stay.
Review 119:WiFi works perfectly, the room is very clean and despite the fact the hotel is located on a main road, rooms are very quiet.
Review 120:Car park is a bit tight, but Peugeot 807 with roof bars fits. Not a problem for us, but wifi down at the moment. I can't blame the owner for thinking hard about paying 2000€ + tax before getting it sorted!
Review 121:Having stayed here in December last year we immediately re-booked to return this week. Yes, it _is_ that good. Rooms not very large, but comfortable enough. Close to excellent restaurants (proper ones, not burger bars and crepe shops), friendly and attentive (not overly) staff.
Review 122:position was good for visiting the centre. sensible parking and easy to find by car. helpful willing staff with good English. our stay was cut short for personal reasons and didn't experience breakfast. On our visit (sat night) the WiFi was down.
Review 123:perilous steep ramp into car park..nothing that can be done about that so we choose to use undreground car park 2 minutes away
Review 124:Great central location by hotel de ville...bars..restaurants nearby
Review 125:If you are travelling up from the South of France to Calais and want to stop off en route, then this hotel in the heart of Rouen is absolutely wonderful. Secure parking, clean, comfortable beds, great breakfast and helpful owners. A real gem!
Review 126:The wifi was not great - slow and unreliable and continually asking for the logon.
Review 127:There was some confusion about our reservation but they put that aside and got us settled quickly. The location is an easy 15 min walk from the railway station and was easy to find - less than 100 metres to the Hotel de Ville and the Abbey. The facilities were not modern but in our opinion, that added to the charm of the hotel. Although we didn't make use of it, there was a pleasant sitting area in the lobby and the breakfast room looked interesting.
Review 128:WiFi was very erratic. Kept dropping out. Caution - car park has a verysteep slope. Tricky for exit. But we knew this beforehand.
Review 129:Great location - only 5-10 mins walk to main sites, Staff veryhelpful and let us check in early. Availability of car parkconvenient and secure - also cheaper than city car parks. Roomsalthough not very big were adequate and very comfortable. All modernequipment in the bathroom.
Review 130:Nothing, even the un-renovated rooms are very comfortable and chic!
Review 131:The staff were very friendly and understanding. Strong wifi worked well. The bed was very comfortable. It was warm and quiet. It's in a great location, a short walk from all the sights. Delicious breakfast.
Review 132:Tv didn't work Wifi didn't work Telephone did't work Very bad parking facility Slippery tub Old place getting older
Review 133:Absolutely nothing Breakfast adequate
Review 134:Charming hotel, very friendly and informative personnel. Astounding, luxurious breakfast. Great atmosphere; very much an authentic expression of Rouen's culture.
Review 135:We had difficulty communicating with the staff person in the afternoon when we went to get our key to our room. They difficulty was mainly because of the language problem. We also wanted to make reservations some place for dinner that evening and we really got no help with that. It was a French holiday and so perhaps the people who usually man the desk were not available. I think if we had spoken French we might have been OK. She was certainly nice enough but we ended up with out dinner reservations and had to wander around looking for a place to eat.
