Reviews for Best Western Poitiers Centre Le Grand Hôtel
Review 1:Very tight garage parking
Review 2:Central location meant that all the sights could be accessed on foot easily. Plenty of restaurants close by. Breakfast good but a little pricey
Review 3:There was nor where to get a drink when we arrived and the bar was not open in the evening before we so we could not get a drinke before we went out
Review 4:the hotel was in a very centrel the breakfast was good and the staff very plleasent
Review 5:No facilities. On site parking extremely tight unless you are in a Smart car. I'm surprised that Best Western haven't rebranded this hotel as it certainly is way below the standards that you would normally expect from them
Review 6:Location. Right in the heart of things
Review 7:Breakfast was good if pricey, location for city is good but no views from bedroom, and foyer a real eyesore, bad 1960's style. The bedroom was ok but nothing to write home about and only just acceptable for the price. Room size for superior room was OK, bathroom passable, bed linen passable but not good - suffocatingly hot duvet. No soap in the shower/bath. Poor heating from inadequate electric radiators, impossible to make function properly. Would I return? Answer 'No', I would prefer to try somewhere else. Unimpressed, despite rave reviews from others. The publicity shot for the website uses a photo of a café in the nearby Place Leclerc which has nothing whatever to do with this hotel, it is totally misleading. There is a breakfast terrace open in the summer but it has no views as the hotel faces into a depressing modern/19th century concrete courtyard. There are restaurants nearby but then there are restaurants nearby all over Poitiers. We were disappointed.
Review 8:I stay here when visiting my son who is at Uni in Poitiers. Have tried other hotels, but prefer this for the central position, close to some great restaurants and a few minutes stroll from the shops.
Review 9:In the heart of Poitier, good secure parking & surrounded by excellent restaurants. Breakfast value for money with wonderful service. This is always a stop over visit during our journey to & from Southern Spain or The Algarve with our dog Daisy & we always enjoy staying here.
Review 10:Very old and outdated hotel, not a 4 stars hotel (maybe 10 years ago). Facilities and furniture need to be replaced/refurbished urgently. Some staff was very helpful, others were rather careless.
Review 11:Very good location, lots of restaurants nearby.
Review 12:Room opposite the lift. Bathroom tiny we had to move the bin to close the door. Getting out of the shower was difficult not to say dangerous.
Review 13:Location. It is so central.
Review 14:Difficulty finding the hotel. The centre city has been transformed into a largely pedestrian plaza and my GPS program doesn't know how to navigate them. A map sent by email didn't help me. But eventually the kindness of a young cyclist got me there.
Review 15:Location in centre city. Car parking. The affable hotel desk manager sorted a wifi problem and recommended a bistro across the street which was very good! Coffee in the room is always welcomed. Is it time for Best Western to offer coffee capsules rather than boring nescafe instant ? TV screen size ks appropriate to the room but in the age of satellite reception, could they offer more English channels not devoted to just news?
Review 16:the car parking which is charged at 6.0 euros per day with very poor access in both pedestrians and vehicular. Bathroom was uncomfortable and shower head broken.
Review 17:friendly and helpfull staff. Excellent location smack in town centre with lots of good resturants and cafes close by.
Review 18:Bed too firm.
Review 19:One of our better hotel breakfasts. Our charming host made us an omelette and fresh orange juice. Dead quiet until the workers start up at 0630.
Review 20:The safe is not secure and screwed to the shelf, the shelf is not secure either. the safe slide off the shelf, which then colapsed , spraining my wrist. I am assuming same in all rooms. Also, cleaners who are very good, however when they clean they wedge the door open, if they are cleaning the shower, someone else can pick the safe up, and walk out with it!!!!!!! The main door double lock did not work. The hair dryer was poorly wired in shower room!! The toilet seat was broken when we arrived ! Seems to me to be a lack of maintenance all round. Parking £5 a day, when your paying £70 a room!
Review 21:Location spot on.
Review 22:Would have appreciated some detailed advance advice on finding and gaining access to the hotel garage as driving in the middle of an unfamiliar town can be quite stressful. Would advise travellers who may need a spoon in their room (e.g. for a bedtime drink) to take their own as Best Western don't provide them (Have previously suggested they could chain spoons to the wall to prevent theft, but they didn't act on the suggestion).
Review 23:Good location for shops and restaurants. Was pleasantly surprised to find the room had outside space even though the weather during our visit wasn't conducive to sitting outside.
Review 24:The town infrastructure made it very difficult to get to the hotel.
Review 25:Right in the centre of town. Some wonderful architecture but with a modern, contemporary feel.
Review 26:Not worthy of a 4 star rating. Very sad and sinister decoration. Reception area in need of serious refurbishing. Bar and room service closed during week ends! Beds and pillows way beyond their shelf life!
Review 27:The location in the center of town
Review 28:Can't fault it.
Review 29:Really good hotel, very clean and comfortable. The position is excellent, just on the edge of the pedestrianised area in the old town.
Review 30:Location Quality of room Quietness Value for money Excellent on every front. Couldn't fault. Furthermore, Poitiers is a real hidden gem. A beautiful, friendly city and this hotel is right in the heart of it. If unable to get into the hotel car park because it is full, there is a public car park very close by.
Review 31:We opted out of the breakfast at 12.5 euros per person - very expensive compared to what's available close by.
Review 32:Excellent location close to the centre and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Car park (6.5 euros) makes it super-convenient if arriving by car.
Review 33:Felt aged, damp smelling lift, WC was separate from bathroom - with no window or natural ventilation felt more like a toilet in a cupboard. Warm turning to cold water from the hot tap/shower in the morning - too late to do anything about it once you're in the shower!!
Review 34:Location, parking convenience.
Review 35:Not a bad experience, but it would have been nice to have a continental breakfast included in the price.
Review 36:The staff was extremely helpful. The rooms were spacious and clean.
Review 37:The car park is a shared one, and it was not explained to us which bays we could use and which ones not to use. Therefore, we did have a bit of a problem in the morning, as we had parked on a private bay.
Review 38:The beds were very comfortable and the rooms spacious and clean. Were able to park in the car park. The hotel it's right in the centre of town, which has some historical buildings..
Review 39:1st room overlooked the air con units from next building so changed into another room which was quieter but very small. Hotel didnt seem that full that we couldnt have been given a bigger room.
Review 40:Good location
Review 41:Breakfast was expensive so did not take that option, parking was restricted by height so had to park in another hotels parking just up the road.
Review 42:Great location for out stop over and the room was perfect,
Review 43:I spent the first night on a broken folding metal single bed, very uncomfortable indeed. The second night, we were then moved in the suite I booked, yet spent the night on a metal double bed located in a very small place with no room to spare on both sides of the bed.
Review 44:The hair dyer was not very hot.
Review 45:Great location right in the centre of town. Our room was comfortable with a large double bed. The staff were helpful when we asked questions about transport. This was our second visit and we will go back.
Review 46:We are a family of four who shared one room, the room was large and comfortable with enough space for all. There is a small roof terrace which is a nice touch. Staff were very friendly and all spoke english. The hotel is situated in the heart of a quite cosmopolitain area with lots of outside eating.
Review 47:No restaurant in the hotel and the bar closes at ten, but not a real broblem as the closest restaurant/bar is just outside the entrance, it is possible to have breakfast but decided to use a local bar instead
Review 48:In the city centre with onsite parking, the receptionist was very helpful, room clean and comfortable, a number of restaurants close by would visit again
Review 49:Be careful when you use GPS. I recommend you chossing the cross-roads when you entering the hotel address. Hotel is located in the beginning of city foot-zone.
Review 50:Position was excellent . Just walked out the door into the town, with lots of lovely restaurants to chose from. Hotel very quiet despite being in the middle of the town.
Review 51:Unfortunately the air conditioning unit in our room didn't work too well.
Review 52:Perfect location in centre of Poitier, handy for town centre and many restaurants close by
Review 53:On the third floor and water pressure was very poor. Toilet took hours to fill. Wifi didn't really work. Some of the staff could have been a little bit friendlier and helpful.
Review 54:It was close to everything. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Hotel de Ville car park next door was very good and very cheap. Do not need to use the hotel car park. We had a big car and there were special spaces for big cars.
Review 55:1. Breakfast: we had booked the room + breakfast. When we arrived at 17h, we asked the receptionist whether it was possible to have an early breakfast the day after, as we wanted to continue our trip in the early morning. She said it was not possible (not even a cold one) as the bread wont have arrived before 6:30 am. When we checked out on Sunday at 5h the bread and the croissants were already delivered, we saw the empty trays in the reception. 2. The internet was not working at all in our room. We stayed in room 110. 3. On Sunday we spent more than 30´ trying to leave the hotel parking as the door was not working. When we tried to call the reception, no one answered and we had to wait for more than 20´until the receptionist showed up and could help us, who did not provide us with a solution immediately either. Moreover the receptionist was not informed about any early departure/check out that day when we asked the previous receptionist to inform her colleagues.
Review 56:Car park under hotel very tight. We ended up in the public car park next door which was fine
Review 57:Great location in the pedestrianised area with all the restaurants and bars. Lovely quite rooms facing inner courtyard with nice roof top views
Review 58:Classed as a 4 Star hotel but facilities are more 2 Star, with no bar open at the weekend. Rooms are dated and really need refurbished.
Review 59:Excellent location. Very comfortable bed. Staff on Reception and in the breakfast room were very friendly.
Review 60:It smelled like mold in the hallway. The rooms were okay.
Review 61:The location was great. Access to the pedestrian zone and allthe ancient sites. Great baker across the street for breakfast.
Review 62:The receptionist who greeted us on our arrival could have been more helpful.
Review 63:Charming, delightful hostess at breakfast, who cooked us a wonderful omlette
Review 64:Need to clarify hotel parking arrangement for new arrivals. We parked in the adjacent public car park and were led to believe it would be covered by the hotel but it wasn't .
Review 65:Location and comfort.
Review 66:A Restaurant next door, food very good , but the staff kept me waiting 3/4 of an hour for the bill, as well as a French couple with young children. On the other hand the Restaurant " Absinth"a few doors the other side excelent in every detail.None of which has much to do with the Hotel but as a "package" makes a great deal of difference to you stay!.
Review 67:I have now stayed several times on my way to our property in the Aude. that must be a recomendation in itself! most helpful staff convenient parking and many restaurants within easy walking distance
Review 68:No restaurant although a buffet breakfast is available and there are plenty of restaurants in the town. No lift from garage so be prepared to carry your luggage up a narrow flight of stairs to reception or drop it off before parking the car. Meanness with the little luxuries that make a 4 star hotel eg 1 small bottle of complimentary water on the first day only, kettle but only 2 sachets of coffee and milk, no toiletries in bathroom, just hand gel in a bottle fixed to the wall. Didn't feel very luxurious.
Review 69:Excellent location with a secure underground garage but book as places are limited. Right on the edge of the pedestrianised old town. Staff are very welcoming and helpful.
Review 70:WiFi connection was not very good in our room - sometimes the signal was very weak.
Review 71:Comfort of the bed, staff, location in the center part of the city. The staff was very helpful with our needs, and gave us excellent suggestion for dinner in nearest restaurants.
Review 72:Garage is difficult to manoeuvre, and the parking spaces are way to small. Hotel makes a run down impression.
Review 73:Central location. Very, very friendly and helpful staff. Quiet room in spite of the location.
Review 74:Airconditioner not working properly. Very small room. Parking very tight for larger vehicles.
Review 75:Excellent setting with great restaurants around the hotel. Parking on site. Friendly staff.
Review 76:Only small problem was no lift in the old section of the hotel but the staff looked after our luggage
Review 77:The hotel was a charming building. We had a room in the old part and it was wonderful. The air conditioning system was one of the best we have ever had in France and we stay there a lot
Review 78:Quiet room despite central location. For the price we couldn't fault the hotel. It was clean and the staff were friendly. Reserved parking which was secure underground.
Review 79:Nothing.
Review 80:Lovely rooms exactly as depicted on the website. Breakfast lady was warm and welcoming and fare was plentiful with plenty of choice. All in all excellent value for money. Would definitely stay their again.
Review 81:Right in the heart of the town, so walking distance to sights, shops, restaurants. Secure underground parking (at a price). Very helpful staff. Huge room, huge bed, lots of space. Reasonably priced deal, but if you book well in advance, breakfast might be included.
Review 82:I found the bars and restaurants a bit expensive, but the food was good.
Review 83:location and access to the city was very good, very friendly people and beautiful buildings
Review 84:Strong smell of stale cigarettes in business room. Downgraded to standard room - small discount to offset tax and parking. Wifi only worked in lobby. Stayed in many better lower cost hotels in the region
Review 85:Great city centre location with underground parking
Review 86:no parking facilities available and parking not an option on the streets anywhere nearby. No atmosphere in the hotel and bar or lounge never open
Review 87:easy access by foot to the town
Review 88:Staff were great and the comfortable clean room was in walking distance to much of historical Poitiers. Nearby restaurants had very good tasting food.
Review 89:Perfect for a short stay if you need to be at the center of town as for us. Staff very friendly and helpful, room clean with great bed. Very quiet as room overlooking a private peatonal street.
Review 90:Lots of restaurants and pedestrianised areas around. Lucky to have been able to book a parking space reserved for the hotel's guests in the basement car park adjacent to the hotel.
Review 91:I wish the small bar facilities they provided were located in the ground floor rather than in the 1st floor where it closed @ 10pm. Of course it had to close at this time because there are bedrooms located very nearby. Also as the best Western is a chain they are the same in any country but a little bit of french flair would add to the ambience
Review 92:Excellent central location. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Also safety of guests was paramount with the locked gates after 9pm. This is very reasuring
Review 93:Nothing much to complain about here, and what was a problem got fixed immediately.
Review 94:Very peaceful location: we live deep in the country and the hotel room was at least as quiet as at home, plus no sheep bleating or cows mooing, so really private. Also, the one meal we had onsite, breakfast, was very good value and the breakfast times civilised for laid back retired folk. Staff very helpful and service excellent.
Review 95:Separate toilet and bathroom, neither with window but no working fans either.
Review 96:Very comfortable room and straight out onto street for evening meal and drinks. Safe underground car parking. Brilliant breakfast waitress who was so helpful and fun - good choice too.
Review 97:During this stay, there was not anything to disappoint.
Review 98:Great central location with secure parking. Excellent service from friendly staff willing to help. Very comfortable surroundings and facilities, a 1st class hotel.
Review 99:The room was a bit on the small side with a cot bed.
Review 100:Perfect location to explore Poitiers, really close to the city centre. Parking was convenient. Staff members were friendly.
Review 101:The WC is a bit of a tight fit, not that it caused a problem but taller / larger people might struggle.
Review 102:Fabulous location, easy to find, convenient and great value on site secure parking, quiet comfortable rooms and surrounded by great restaurants and bars. Good breakfast helpful staff. Great value for money. Not a 4 or 5 star hotel, but in its context it's a great place to stay.
Review 103:Weak wifi signal on 3rd floor. Low water pressure at shower on 3rd floor.
Review 104:Very clean, very convenient, modern hotel in a great location with excellent staff.
Review 105:get some staff who really care. You run a hotel like a machine and it doesn't work like that
Review 106:nothing because the customer care was so bad that it spoiled the whole thing
Review 107:No soap bars in the bathroom
Review 108:Friendly staff. Reserved parking space with my name mentioned in the garage. Great breakfast with fresh juice and wonderful staff.
Review 109:A few more teabags and more milk would have been nice.
Review 110:Pleasant decor, cleanliness, very good location near town centre with the historic part and lots of restaurants and cafes.Parking on site and security.Calm and friendly atmosphere and staff.
Review 111:We found it hard to find so we parked the car on a side street and walked to the centre of Poitiers and found it that way.
Review 112:Best comfy bed ever - even the sofa bed my daughter slept on was very comfy too. Staff very friendly. Very convenient parking next to the hotel. Great position in middle of Poitiers which is very pretty.
Review 113:Comfortable room Good air con and opening window Good noise insulation Separate toilet Pleasant decor Adjacent to a good range of bars and restaurants and city itself
Review 114:Hotel entrance is slightly off the road. Easy to miss if one is not careful.
Review 115:The Location is excellent for walking around the centre of town. Many places to eat. Very Quiet room. Lounge/ Bar / breakfast room is furnished very nicely. Staff was very helpful with all our questions.
Review 116:WIFI connection could be better. Sometimes, there is smell of "old", of humidity. Renewal is to be accelerated.
Review 117:The personnel for breakfast are just very nice. The area is very good, close to the best places in the historical center of the city. Revamping of the stair case is perfect.
Review 118:Tiny toilet (knees hit door) Extractor fans did not work Room servicenot available at weekends no bar as receptionist on her own Wallpapercoming off Bath plug you have to pull out by hand Towels you can seethro Overall, not good enough as we had a master suite
Review 119:Not a lot. Had expected it to be as good as other Best Westerns we havestayed in, but not even in their league.
Review 120:Breakfast could have been better for the asking price. Parking spots are very very small. The manager moved his own car out of the garage so that our car would fit...
Review 121:nice clean room. Very friendly staff.
Review 122:The location is excellent, the room was large, the staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was very good. There are external blinds which block out all noise/light and are operated by an interior switch. The public parking is right next door. In fact, the location couldn't be better as it is right in the town centre, with many restaurants nearby.
Review 123:The safe did not work as it had run out of batteries. The solution was for the desk clerk to 'swap' it for one from another room! In other words someone could walk away with any of the safes... Parking in communal garage below was extremely tight and we struggled to get luggage in and out.
Review 124:Very pleasant receptionists, clean and airy room, very good bed & shower/bath. Great location for town centre visiting. Easy Wi-Fi access & use within the room itself. Tea making facilities much appreciated.
Review 125:There were building works which initially made getting to the hotel reception confusing.
Review 126:Parking convenient, room and bed comfortable, clean and well equipped. Husband enjoyed substancial breakfast. Central. Staff friendly and welcoming and bookked parking for us.Helpful directions re getting to the hotel which worked. Clear advice re evening access.
Review 127:Underground car park dark and cold with a staircase that was difficult to negotiate with cases. Some help would have been appreciated. The hotel is difficult to find when you arrive in a strange town
Review 128:Clean and comfortable and right in the heart of the town. Very handy for restaurants and sights. Very freindly staff
Review 129:City Parking is next door, but the parking garage was built for mini cars and is very busy. We did not like driving in Poitier. It is complex and confusing. One travels a lot in circles on narrow medieval streets. But the churches are magnificent, visit this city by train. The hotel is excellent.
Review 130:We liked large, clean, modern well appointed room equipped with everything travellers need, very comfortable bed, wardrobe with hungers, safe, excellent bathroom, and very quiet though the hotel is in a lively centre of the city. Very good location for visiting Poitier's wonderful churches. Close to restaurants, with one particularly good just across the street. There was work done on the outside but it did not cause any problems.
Review 131:No complaints
Review 132:Good location Underground Parking at very reasonable cost Very pleasant and helpfull staff-especially the charming lady in charge of breakfast
Review 133:was disapointed to arrive to find scaffolding on side of building. and more to the point why was this not mentioned at time of booking. as we had a lovely room looking at scaffolding and scaffolding curtain. this is why the dont get top marks from me. oh and we asked for an early wake up call but for some reason we never got it . luckerly I was awake!!!
Review 134:fab location ,gd breakfast and nice room shame about the view!!!!!
