Reviews for Les Douves
Review 1:Our hosts were fantastic- what a lovely couple! They are so kind and helped us find a restaurant on our first night, which was wonderful. The room was perfect for our family of six - they have taken a lot of care to make things comfortable for guests. Our children loved rowing the boat around the moat - it was a beautiful setting. Breakfast was delicious and was served outside, which was so nice. We wished we could have been there during a concert or other event.
Review 2:We stayed for three nights at Les Douves with our two teenage sons. Once an ancient chateau, this magical country home built in the 1800s is surrounded by a moat. The guest suite is spacious with two bedrooms for a family of four. The decor is classic and charming. The beds are comfortable, with very comfortable linen. The host and hostess are very friendly yet non-intrusive. Breakfast in the courtyard with the morning sun, with view of the yard, moat, their black and white swan, is fairytale like. Sebastian also recommended great restaurants nearby for every night and made reservations for us. They prepared their bikes for us to ride on the trail along the Loire River. On Sunday during our visit, the family was hosting a classical concert and we were kindly invited to attend the concert and the wine reception. On the morning of our departure, we had to leave very early. Yet the host and hostess got up, prepared breakfast for us and even set the table up with linen and nice china! They are so sweet. The location is central. Onzain is very quiet but conveniently located off the freeway to reach all major chateau sites in the Loire Valley. We would highly recommend Les Douves and would love to come back and stay longer.
Review 3:The ground floor apt has an upstairs bath which is not ideal in the middle of the night.
Review 4:Very comfortable and very eclectic. We were with our one of our grown children and family. The grandchildren were able to roam the grounds freely and even took a boat ride in the moat. The young couple that own Les Douves were very helpful with their suggestions. If you are looking for a different experience this is it! But if you are looking for a Best Western, this is not it! We would go back again in a heartbeat!
Review 5:In our room the bathroom/toilet was on the mezzanine up a narrow and steep stairs requiring care and agility. Les Douves is tricky to get to though a maze of narrow one way streets. A bit over-priced.
Review 6:Charming and quirky with interesting art pieces inside and out. Friendly and helpful hosts and a good breakfast al fresco.
Review 7:Everything was perfect.
Review 8:We spent one week at this property and were impressed with the family suite. We loved its decoration, comfort, spaciousness and position. It was great to have the kids in a separate room, but yet close by. The suite really feels like a cottage with a ground floor and upstairs and nice views. We enjoyed having a snack on the terrace, as well as having a lovely breakfast with croissants, various types of bread and home made jams in the courtyard. The fridge was a great bonus, as we could store our picnic food safely. The owners are very friendly without being intrusive- a rare quality. They organize concerts in their yard and also have many exhibits- paintings and sculptures - on their property. It is a truly special place.

Review 16:We enjoyed the deck off of our room, brought groceries home & ate dinner there 2 nites. Location was good for exploring the area.
Review 17:second bedroom no door or ensuite.
Review 18:unique sitting, character.
Review 19:Nothing. Everything was perfect.
Review 20:Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful ambience. We really felt like royalty. The children loved the swans and ducks, and the moat was just so different to anything else we stayed in on our travels. The bedlinen was wonderful, and the beds so comfortable.
Review 21:A beautiful place owned by a really nice couple. We enjoyed the Gresse couple hospitality and the spacious and tastefully decorated suite. The place is ideal for families: the suite accommodates a family of five comfortably and the yard is full of fun. The Gresse kids are very friendly and were eager to show my kids all the animals: swans & ducks in the moat, chickens & rabbits in the yard, and then climbed with them to the tree house and picked apples right from the tree. A real treat for my city girls…
Review 22:It is hard to imagine a more charming place to stay in the Loire than Les Douves. Once a grand chateau occupied the small island, with its 360 degree moat, on which the current “manor” style building sits. The island home is situated in the center of the town of Onzain, a perfect location from which to tour the surrounding area and grand chateaux. Family owned and operated, Les Douves has only one guest accommodation. A suite consisting of a large bedroom and sitting room, two other salons, and a bath, all on the second floor, as well as a breakfast room of its own on the ground floor. The rooms of the suite all have very large multipaned windows overlooking the moat and gardens and the main house itself. The rooms are furnished with antiques and are delightful. Pictures reveal the charm of the location and rooms. The owners and their four children could not have been kinder or more accommodative. We were asked for champagne served in the courtyard. A wonderfully generous gesture. This is a rare gem and not to be missed. Les Douves will be long remembered as one of our favorite discoveries.
Review 23:The two rooms are in close proximity with only one small bathroom; we didn't mind, but some might.
Review 24:Very beautiful house, great location, lovely hosts, delicious breakfast.
Review 25:nothing
Review 26:We like everything! very pleasant owners, very beautiful place. of course, this place is for travelers with car. the restaurant, which owner suggest to visit in 50 metres from the place, was excellent. And I like very much the bed.
Review 27:Extremely friendly host Sebastien made our stay a joy. From breakfast overlooking the moat to rowing the children. They had a classical music concert on the day we arrived.
Review 28:Recommended to families. Kids can feed ducks, swans in chateau...
Review 29:Our kids loved staying here, 12 15. & 16, they loved the atmosphere and Sebastien was very helpful. Decor great! Lovely breakfast.
Review 30:We loved the peaceful setting and quaint décor. Les Douves was a little piece of heaven, especially after the bustle of Paris.
