Reviews for The Bulkeley Hotel

Review 1:The bed seemed hard, also the pillows

Review 2:Position of hotel, nice views. Friendly staff. Only ate in the bistro, but their soup and sandwiches were delicious For the price we paid, the room was fantastic, and very clean, the only complaint was that the first evening we were there, it was very windy, and we had to stuff newspaper in the window frames as it was very noisey, and preventing us sleeping.

Review 3:Noise spoilt good nights sleep - both from room above (in Room 216) and old windows which rattled all night

Review 4:Nice big room and big bed Pet friendly Choice of dining options Good bathroom

Review 5:Parking was a bit of an issue - car park not really big enough and some guests parking very badly

Review 6:Beautiful old building in a stunning location. Staff really friendly and breakfast one of the best self-served that I've had.

Review 7:Not enough parking in busy periods, shower didn't work very well- quite dated, staff in evening bistro not too helpful, waited ages for food and not busy

Review 8:Excellent location, food great, atmosphere lovely

Review 9:we are allowed to bring our 2 yorkies staff shaun night porter the waitress who was at college for drama ? lovely beauty parlour. we will be going again and booking the suite, I forgot the name 108 I think room number. Overall its a great place to stay Chris & Debbie wood doggies boo & benji

Review 10:We took our mum who is elderly and disabled, hotel not exactly geared up for disabled people. No disable parking, can only enter the hotel via the rear as steps to the front of the hotel.

Review 11:old world charm, friendly staff, good breakfast

Review 12:Drinks in the bar were expensive.

Review 13:Wonderful sea view, spotless room and plenty of parking. An excellent location for exploring this corner of Anglesey.

Review 14:We gave advance notice of our small dog staying with us, and were delighted to find a small (new) dog blanket and a packet of dog biscuits in our room. As with everyone we came across in Beaumaris, the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful

Review 15:The bar is suggested as a real ale bar. It isn't. One hand pulled pint (Brains beer-not my taste)

Review 16:We were allocated a room that wasn't what we booked. The staff were pleasant and changed it immediately for us. Breakfast was good, bed comfortable and view wonderful.

Review 17:The staff are just fantastic - from April and colleagues on reception, to the breakfast staff and the night porter, they were all going out of their way to help and make the stay pleasant. The sea view rooms offer terrific views across the straight to the Welsh mountains.

Review 18:Great location and easy parking. Very friendly and helpful staff. The Bulkeley has a lot of character and is a perfect get-away with easy access to the sights of Anglesey

Review 19:There is a serious lack of on-site parking...and parking in Beaumaris is notoriously bad anyway.

Review 20:It was cheap, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. The building itself is amazing!

Review 21:There was a strange smell upon entering the room - was fine the next day but just a bit offputting initially. The room itself (not the bathroom) could do with some modernisation.

Review 22:The location is excellent, comfortable room. Free parking is a plus in Beaumaris. The bathroom was really nice and well fitted - good shower!

Review 23:Sad we didn't stay longer

Review 24:Everything what a gem of a hotel. Great location, right on the waterfront. Great breakfast-good value for money. We loved the friendly atmosphere of this hotel and the fact that dogs are welcomed just added to the charm. Staff were helpful on every level.

Review 25:This was my first trip to the Isle of Anglesey and the lovely village of Beaumaris and the experience was memorable. The hotel is grand and imposing with nicely proportioned rooms and several restaurant options.

Review 26:our only concern although minor was slightly noisey owing to being in a room on the main road side but would definitely stay here again

Review 27:We liked the whole thing during our visit......nothing too much trouble from the staff....the location was great.....the food first class....Excellent

Review 28:A little shabby in places - especially at reception and coffee lounge level, but it seems that, gradually, refurbishment is taking place.

Review 29:Relaxed atmosphere, comfortable lounge/coffee shop, fantastic breakfast and wonderful room (204) - the Regent Suite. Beautiful restaurant - though we were the only diners, Good menu and service, Helpful reception. Friendly bistro. A good old traditional hotel run with professional pride

Review 30:Car park is too small for the number of guests so it can be difficult to find somewhere to park.

Review 31:Early breakfast so we could make the most of the shorter day (November).

Review 32:No complaints. Somewhere to store toiletries in the bathrooms would help.

Review 33:Relaxed atmosphere and staff were pleasant. Nice breakfast and good coffee in the coffee lounge. Room cleaning was very efficient. We love Beaumaris and the location of the hotel. We think a sea view room is a must and have stayed in the hotel a number of times. Being able to park in the hotel car park is a real plus.

Review 34:The revolving door was awkward when leaving with cases. The ordinary door didn't seem to be available.

Review 35:The staff were always friendly and helpful. Both our room and bathroom were very spacious. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice.

Review 36:Room was noisy due to hum of kitchen equipment next door but hotel was helpful and moved us to a quieter room.

Review 37:Good location and relaxed atmosphere. Helpful staff.

Review 38:We like the location of the hotel, the pleasant friendly staff . . . really everything about it. My husband had a milestone birthday while we were there and the staff managed to magic up a little cake for him.

Review 39:We were in room 114 and It is unfortunate that the number 57 bus stops on the main street immediately below that room and seems to wait with the engine running from 7am for sometime. No need for an alarm call.!!!

Review 40:We love Beaumaris and the hotel is in a perfect location. Yes we will book again.

Review 41:I travelled with my 90 year old mother in law, we had 2 single rooms next to each other and all staff facilities etc. were excellent. We also had lovely good value meals at the bistro.

Review 42:The first night was poor as the bed was so uncomfortable. However we notified the reception the following morning and the problem was sorted when we returned later tha day. Couldn't fault the service

Review 43:The location is excellent the staff are brilliant the level of customer service was second to none. The food was so good we chose not to eat anywhere else in the evening. Overall an excellent place for a relaxing break.

Review 44:Room I was placed in overlooked service yard so noisy at times...the boiler was next to room and constant hum was very irritating! Room very hot and no air conditioning. Breakfast was good but yuk to tinned tomatoes and tinned mushrooms!

Review 45:Location good and views from car park are wonderful.

Review 46:Didn't have one

Review 47:We just couldn't fault it we stayed for 5 nights everything was just perfect the staff couldn't do enough for us.the choice of food was amazing.we will most definitely be going again.

Review 48:The Car park, particularly since it did not have any disabled spaces.

Review 49:The friendly staff and the efficient way the breakfast staff seemed to work efficently and seamlessly. Well done. Plus an excellent breakfast range of food.

Review 50:Couldn't get the shower to work, but this wasn't much of a problem because there was both a shower and a bath in the bathroom. Sometimes it was difficult to get signal on mobile phone but I think this is more to do with location rather than the fault of the hotel.

Review 51:Excellent location overlooking the Menai Straits. The room was very comfortable, the food in the Bistro excellent and the lounge area was great to sit and have a coffee/snack and relax.

Review 52:The shower was very weak it was quicker running a bath. The car park could do with a bit more space.

Review 53:Beautiful hotel which was excellent value for Money. Fantastic views over the Menai straight into Snowdonia. Very friendly staff & great food choice at a good price. Great location for exploring north Wales.

Review 54:the only people who smiled were the reception staff and it needs a lot of money spending on it. If nothing else it could do with redecorating throughout

Review 55:The location was brilliant

Review 56:Walls were paper thin - room very noisy. Toilet didn't flush properly. Flood light illuminated room during night. Decor was probably very grand and modern in the 1970s. Staff not particularly friendly or helpful at breakfast which was basic. Would not return given high price of rooms

Review 57:Good location and nice exterior

Review 58:A very warm friendly hotel.Superb views.Very friendly staff.A big hearty help yourself breakfast.we will definitely be returning see you soon room 105.

Review 59:Buffet breakfast was very greasy. Had been sitting for too long. Needed better alternatives i.e. natural yoghurt, fresh fruit

Review 60:Location Generous size of room

Review 61:Most of staff excellent but experienced ignoring by bar staff as they were obviously struggling with inputting orders or prices into the computer till. More training in customer care needed. Chips sub-standard. Perhaps something to do with the oil they were cooked in - poor considering price of meal. However we did enjoy our stay in this beautiful location.

Review 62:Location

Review 63:Hotel still being refurbished.Radiator not working in bedroom but quickly provided with portable electric radiator.

Review 64:Spacious suite with sea view, good food and service, dog friendly. Ease of parking on site.

Review 65:Bathroom needs updated - the shower was hard to use due to issues with pressure and fluctuating temperature. Staff having other conversations with colleagues re non work related issues when checking in.

Review 66:Location of the hotel is amazing. Breakfast was good and waiting staff were very friendly. Bedroom was clean and comfortable.

Review 67:This was a return stay at this Hotel. I enjoy all aspects of this Hotel. It is well located and offers a high standard of accommodation, cleanliness and food together with staff who really make your stay a pleasure. It is such a nice experience to stay at a genuine retro-style hotel that has not "gone to seed".

Review 68:Level of maintenance required in bathroom and the want for customers to highlight instead of a budgeted maintenance officer or recyclical maintenance schedules.

Review 69:Warm welcoming made even warmer by great staff members

Review 70:We liked the location and the building itself. There was lots of life in the hotel people coming and going enjoying a drink sitting around chatting and relaxing. Very nice.

Review 71:bit noisy being over the dining hall

Review 72:room 101 sea view, big windows you could open, and sitting area, big bath, lots of storage. comfy lounge. Food good. When noisy refurbishing the room above they stopped all work without fuss. Fantastic response

Review 73:The shower was very poor in the room we had.

Review 74:We loved the location of the hotel, it made the break special, especially as it coincided with the Beaumaris food festival weekend.

Review 75:Didn't use bath or shower as black mould around the edge.wife ignored by staff member for some time when waiting to book in at reception.

Review 76:Comfortable large bed. Good sized room

Review 77:Bistro evening meal was average. Chicken Kiev -don't think it was home made-was ok, but my sherry trifle was disappointing . Tinned cherry pie filling topped with tinned custard and cream. No sign of any sponge soaked in sherry.

Review 78:Location was excellent. Lovely old Victorian hotel full of faded grandeur but clean and interesting with reasonable facilities and lovely views. Good breakfast. Needs decorating as its a little tired and dull but all in all I thought this hotel was lovely. Nice room with large TV , comfortable bed and decent shower too.

Review 79:Thought set meal not great, main meal of cod loin very dry not much sauce and very small portion ,and profiterolls just 4 on plate not presented very well

Review 80:Location, very comfortable hotel ,enjoyed sitting in lounge very relaxing and enjoying quite drink

Review 81:I do not like four poster beds. The wooden rail surround catches your legs getting in and out of bed.

Review 82:The view from room 204 and the fact it was a large room with three windows and fantastic views.

Review 83:Not that I didn't like but more so Style & decor was fine but need replacing because of ware & tare, everything needed replacing. Newer technology such as phones, lifts, computers, tv's etc... Although wifi was good for general surfing and small amounts of streaming but not for intense use, access was simple & easy & free.

Review 84:View from the window Cafe/Bar/Lounge Old style decor

Review 85:We didn't like the dogs in the lounge with barking a lot when we were having tea.

Review 86:The location was great. The facilities, plenty of eating places and art gallery were very good.

Review 87:Very busy with day customers to eat and drink in restaurant and Bar. Very difficult to find parking in the hotel parking area. Very old Hotel and not very tidy.

Review 88:Breakfast. View of harbour.

Review 89:The food in the restaurant, our bathroom was very tired and had no ventilation, the room temperature was very hot but had no fan, the furniture was a mishmash of pieces that again need attention, the staircase has lights and garlands down both sides, one side was working and still attached, the other side was broken and hanging off, also the decoration was in need of a refresh and tables in the coffee shop area were sticky and could do with a clean down. Lastly the staff needs to go on a general course on how to look after the guests, but also on how to clean down areas ready for other customers

Review 90:The location was fantastic, the coffee shop and bistro were good

Review 91:Nothing :)

Review 92:The meals served in the Bistro were excellent and as a vegetarian I was impressed with the choices - there were four main meal options which were all delicious. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 93:Small TV in the room and old style hair dryer in the room wasn't adequate for someone with long hair.

Review 94:Staff were very friendly and helpful on every occasion we spoke to them. They were polite and informative. Lovely breakfast always refilled. Great location next to the sea. Large rooms.

Review 95:Booked a meal for our anniversary in the main restaurant. We selected off the a la carte menu but felt it was only average tasting so was disappointed. The cake stand with limited cake on looks like it should be put in a skip. It looked very dated.

Review 96:Fantastic room overlooking the Menai Straits, spacious and extremely comfortable. Great bathroom. Very happy with choice.

Review 97:Bar area very small. Restaurant and food let the hotel down. Hopefully it will be improved soon.

Review 98:Location excellent. Room very comfortable. Reception and room staff lovely.

Review 99:Nothing, we couldn't fault it.

Review 100:The location was right in Beaumaris so ideal for eating, sight seeing. The hotel was spotless, staff always smiley and helpful. The bedroom was a lovely size, great view over the water, and the bed was v comfy. A very friendly waitress even took the time to describe to my other half all the stocked vodka and provide a few tasters, illustrating how personable the staff were, from the moment you booked in at reception to ordering drinks or a meal, to having breakfast, or booking out, staff were always friendly and helpful.

Review 101:We ordered breakfast in our room which turned out to be a big mistake with food being cold, burnt and greasy. Our weekend stay coincided with the Food Festival [which we were not aware of]. The outdoor music became unbearable at times. Part of the car park was used for a giant bouncy castle which meant that parking was severely restricted, we got the last space but had to leave the car there because we were all blocked in for the weekend.

Review 102:Very friendly staff with good standards of service. Food in the restaurant was very good. Very good location with excellent views.

Review 103:Parking!!! I do think that the hotel should reserve parking for residents - when we were there the car park was full at 3pm - but we asked people as they left around 6pm and discovered that they had not in the main used any hotel facilities, merely used the car park. We were then able to park. Asking at the desk merely resulted in a shrug.

Review 104:The furniture was really well worn, the bathroom needs updating as we prefer a shower. The shower if you could call it that was too low and did not have a decent flow.

Review 105:The view which is really a no brainer, we were really fortunate as the weather was beautiful.

Review 106:Only stayed for two nights would have like to stay longer.

Review 107:Really big extremely comfortable bed, great room, very friendly and help full staff and large range of excellent desserts. Superb location.Real character property in a lovely town.

Review 108:The room and hotel were comfortable but were in need of updating. On the evening we had dinner in the Bistro we had to send the fish back because it was overcooked - although this was not a problem for the staff who replaced it.

Review 109:The location is good and we had a lovely sea view. The room was large and spacious.

Review 110:No negatives.

Review 111:The staff are outstanding; the receptionist was most welcoming; Philip and Kieran were brilliant in the restaurant. as were Nerys and Chloe on the floors. Facilities all top class,

Review 112:Room was adequate but décor tired - a panel of wall paper had come adrift. Water pressure on top floor was inadequate so the shower was more a dribble than a cascade. Although the staff were very pleasant there was one notable exception at breakfast - utterances monosyllabic and failed to tell me that the plates were extremely hot - although I used a napkin to pick one up, it was excessively hot and I nearly dropped it. This hotel overpriced.

Review 113:Location is good and staff friendly. My complaint was dealt with well.

Review 114:Hotel decor looked a bit tired. No lock on bathroom door + Bathroom did not smell fresh. Lift could be better. When arrived, not available as dealing with delivery.

Review 115:Room good size, comfortable.

Review 116:Service in the bistro on Monday evening was abysmal: little or no welcome, an hour wait for the meal, no offer of a pudding, no notice taken of my complaint. Worst experience in an hotel ever.

Review 117:Access to various places of interest.

Review 118:Rowdy welsh wedding. Had a bit of trouble off some of them because we were English. Cant fault the hotel though

Review 119:Exactly what was described. Nive atmosphere

Review 120:Four poster looked good - but not so comfy. No bottled water in bedroom. Didn't have S4C or BBC Wales - but C4 on two channels. In a multi-channel age one would expect Welsh channels in Wales - not all guests come from across the border(s)! Also, Irish butter with breakfast. Could do more to promote local Welsh produce. Little things like this count a lot.

Review 121:Location, fantastic view on seaward side, friendly staff. Large, busy hotel, yet rooms very quiet. Good food.

Review 122:Lack of car parking - they should ask local council to move on street parking from 8 am to 9 am - this would reduce stress and make Beaumaris more welcoming

Review 123:Sea front location , breakfast

Review 124:Mattress and pillows too hard.

Review 125:We were upgraded to a suite with a sea view. Been visiting Beaumaris for years but never stayed at the Bulkeley before. Excellent experience.

Review 126:shower very weak and hotel looking a little "tired"? parking a bit of a problem - if you can't get into the crowded hotel car park, then you have to be up very early to avoid the traffic wardens...

Review 127:great location

Review 128:Wifi and phone signal can be difficult to get in some parts of the hotel, but this is probably due to location rather than the fault of the hotel. Wifi is free to guests

Review 129:Fabulous location overlooking the Menai Straits and in the centre of the town. Excellent staff. Nice lounge area to sit in for drink/snack looking across the straits.

Review 130:Smelly shower curtain We don't mind dogs but if you don't, be aware dogs are allowed to stay at the hotel

Review 131:Position of the hotel and overall feel.

Review 132:Slightly dated decor, restaurant needed some background music to help the ambiance.

Review 133:Beautiful views, large room, comfortable bed, good value, free parking.

Review 134:No resident lounge,it was all people from non resident to general public and at over 100 quid a night there should be a separate lounge, there was no room for residents at busy periods .

Review 135:Location v. Good

Review 136:Destination for coach tours but I guess they have to make a living

Review 137:Great sea views from the room, which are clean and comfortable. Food in the hotel restaurant was surprisingly good.

Review 138:Public areas needed refreshing, large giant stairwell with very old painting, but paper was hanging off walls. Passageways had been plasterboarded, but not painted.

Review 139:Big bedrooms, fantastic location, staff brilliant, no fuss just did their job in a pleasant manner. Food was very good with plenty of fresh local produce on the menu.
